It couldn't be formatted, it shows a lots of bad sectors...I gave up. I'm sending it back, I think WD can do better with this size of the HDD's.

Like the other WD drives I've owned, this one is quiet, reliable, and works as promised. The warranty is also generous and reflects the confidence WD has in their products. On the rare occasion that I've had to return a WD drive (and where I work we have scores of WD models for desktop machines, file archiving, disk backup, server drives and RAIDs).

I bought these during the height of the Hard Drive peak when there were floods. I knew there had to be something wrong when they showed up in loosely padded envelopes as though they were chucked into a box. Roughly 1 month after they arrived, one started to show signs of being bad. Constantly resetting and remapping sectors. I am sending one in for RMA now. I replaced it with a 3TB Seagate.After receiving the replacement drive (I wanted to have a spare after the RMA) I noticed that A SECOND DRIVE is showing signs of going bad. It has begun remapping bad sectors. The RAID 5 was able to rebuild and function but now I have to wait for an RMA to be returned just to send another WD out.I don't think this is the fault of WD, I think this was a seller opting to send out damaged goods in order to capitalize on a spike in hard drive prices during the time these were purchased. So far (roughly 6 months later), 2 of the 4 drives purchased from this seller have to be sent in for RMA.Lesson learned: never buy from an Amazon 3rd party seller. They are obviously not as honest as Amazon.

It holds all my data. That is pretty much exactly what I am looking for. It's fast, and easy to set up. The power saving is fine, but if you don't access it for awhile, it will turn off, then if you access it and expect instant on, you will be disappointed. I would recommend this to people who like to save power, and don't expect instant access all the time. Other than that small gripe, it has, and still is, working fantastic.

I have a couple of these drives and never had any problems. They work perfectly in both my computer systems (external on a MacBook Pro and internally on a Power Mac G5) and my Synology DS413j.Although not the fastest drive around for access time (due to the 5400 RPM speed) their platter density make them decent performers for sustained copies. Which for what I use them for (network backups) is perfect.WD also has good support for any problems you might have (never had any problems returning drives and they often upgrade you to a larger/newer model)

Given the raft of HD failures being spurned by both wd and seagate these days, reading customer reviews like found here can be most helpful .. IF, the following reviews pertain to the product under which they are found. This "review" is written for the 1 tb wd green hd, which has a scant (and very poor) presence here. I'm not just writing to be pedantic here .. as different capacities of the same drive family can have markedly different failure/doa rates. Grouping 1 1/2 through 3 tb drives with reviews for the 1 tb drives, can be misleading, as the higher capacity drives (which are newer) have fared better than the 1 tb predecessors.Amazon should publish customer reviews only for the product under which they are found. Even within the wd blue and black drives, there IS a difference in failure/doa rates within those families. Now, my fist homebrew was an 8080a s-100 bus .. been doing this for quite awhile. My first hd was 10 mb .. cost $350 in '86. Only in the last two years, have I have any hd failures .. and from both wd and seagate.So I apologize for the rant, but it's justified. Builders and their vendors, need to have their feet held to fire sometimes, to clean up their act. That occurs when consumers buy what works, ignoring questionable products. Amazon is Not newegg .. hd's are not part of their core business, but having well informed customers, is best for all parties. There are a couple of 1 tb drives reviewed here .. I won't be purchasing any .. here, or anywhere else.

I put four of these in a home made OpenMediaVault NAS configured in RAID10, XFS, with NFS exports. I tested with Bonnie++ and write speeds are 135MB/s and read speeds are 145MB/s. Quiet with great speeds and energy usage. Can't ask for more!

I had always had good experience with WD drives, until this product (WD30EZRX). I intended to use the drive for backup. I installed the drive internally in my Windows 7 Professional desktop and formatted it as GPT. It worked fine for several hours, but then reported being inaccessible. I reformatted, tried again, several hours later same problem. I then installed it into a dock connected through an e-sata port. Reformatted, started backup in different order, two hours later same problem. I then requested a replacement which Amazon did expediently as always. I went through the same exercise with the replacement drive. That one actually finished the backup and was accessible for about a day, before it reported failure. I put it into another desktop, reformatted it, several hours later got the same result. This time it is going back for a refund.

The capacity to price ratio is wonderful. I've had 4 of these green drives so far (two of the these 3TB and two of the 1.5TB) and they've all worked great.

This is the third of these 2TB WD hard drives I have bought, and they all are performing very well.... and quietly! My external hard drive system (Drobo) has bays for 4 hard drives, and is designed to back itself up if one of the drives fails. That happened a month ago with an older 500GB WD hard drive (2008), but all my data remained secure.

Not really much to say. Western Digital is known for building good drives. This is a nice drive for a very fair price. We got 4 of them to go with our new 4 bay RAID inclosure.

The product packaging is a brown cardboard box. It had no manual and it didn't have a SATA cable. And so if you do not have an extra SATA cable then you'll need to buy one. This product should be labeled that is OEM packaging. It does not come in a retail box, and it does not have retail box materials.

No Complaints. Very Quiet. Easy set up/install. Fit well in my Antec 300 case which has six 120mm cooling fans. Used for storage only. Does what it should and does it well.

I have only had this drive for a couple of weeks but so far so good. Very easy to install and set up and it has more real estate than I will ever use but the price was so good I couldn't pass it up. I am using this drive as a replacement for a 500 GB drive that failed, and when looking a a new one this was the same price I paid for the 500 GB several years ago. If I have and problems with this drive during warranty I will update this review.

First try i have moved 625 gb data in usb 2.0 with intel core 2 duo is quick about 5 hours still i not experimented sata III work FANTASTIC!!!!recomend this disc

When I need to buy a new hard drive or up my storage capacity, Western Digital seems to be the answer. I read reviews all over the Internet and WD comes up on top every time.What's unfortunate is that there are now only THREE manufacturers of hard drives, which limits competition and stifles innovation.Amazon seems to have, generally, the cheapest drives. The price of a gb of storage is almost unimaginably low, compared to when I began computing in 1991. I will spare any reader of this the details, but it is many magnitudes of less cost.Almost nobody backs up their work and, as a result, will eventually lose it. I back mine up at least once a day to two different, offsite, places. I bought this drive as another place to back up. I urge ALL creators of electronic "stuff" (documents, images, etc.) to BACK THEIR STUFF UP, and do it OFFSITE, and NOT WAIT for a failure.

I've had two of the Western Digital Green 2tb drives for a couple years running almost constantly in my NAS in Raid 1 without any problems. I ran out of my 2tb of space and needed to back up my data and convert the drives to a different mode. Currently my NAS is in jbod with 2 drives with about 3.6tb of data free and another 2 to back up that data on my desktop. Great cheap storage and enough peformance for a small buisness or Video server.

I purchased 3 of these "newer" WD30EZRX truly bare drives (not the initial version with a bundled Host Bus Adapter) and at $129 (at time of purchase; it seems the price fluctuates weekly, if not daily), finally there is a price per GB breakthrough that exceeds the value of 2TB drives!All three were installed into an unRAID server which uses the ext3 format and have had zero problems with each; they should work equally well formatted using HFS or NTFS as I have used the WD30EZRSDTL's under both. The temperatures seem to run 30-50 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than the 2TB "Greens" they replaced, for each given replaced drive in the exact same location, even under heavy load.I can finally give WD 3TB "Green" drives a full five stars as their value at current market prices has finally surpassed their predecessors!UPDATE: DECEMBER 9, 2012Well, even after hearing of all the duds others were getting, it seemed I lucked out having bought 3 of these with no problems... until now. All three are installed directly behind a 90mm fan, but after a couple months of trouble-free service I'm now getting constant write errors on one of them, which also just failed a SMART read test (yet there are zero reported reallocated bad blocks). Numerous attempts to resolve the errors have failed, so I bit the bullet and submitted an RMA.None of the 6 WD30EZRSDTL drives (those bundled with HBA's which I don't have a need for) have had any issues, so I'm not sure if these WD30EZRX are mechanically different in some way with the WD30EZRSDTL, but now count me in as an "unlucky" customer with a bad drive. Not sure how the natural disaster in Thailand will affect quality of drives produced after that, but I'm sure I will get a "remanufactured" drive as a replacement.Dropped my rating from 5 stars to 2. If another WD30EZRX fails, then I would recommend against these drives entirely.

I have bought many hard drives over the years. This is the first one to fail after working fine for a month. The fact the warranty is only a month has now put me on warning about Amazon. Buyer beware!!!!!!!!!!

A perfect replacement and upgrade for the 2TB Apple Time Machine. Factory hard drives on older Time Machine's were apparently NOT a long-life item because mine died after only a couple years. So, rather than forking over the mega-bucks again... I decided to try replacing the HD. It was much simpler than I thought and with photo instructions I found online... replacing the 2TB drive with 3TB was "easy button" easy! This Western Digital drive is known for its quietness and it lives up to the reports. And quietness is important to me since my Time Machine has been moved from another room and now sits just above my head in the book shelf on my desk... and only if I listen very closely can I hear any sound! So, HUGE storage and SMALL noise... a GOOD combination!

I have 6 of these drives in 2 MediaSonic ProBoxes hooked up via eSata.In the prior decade I was a big Segate fan. When they bought Maxtor and built that new high tech manufacturing plant in China their prices came down and their quality went way up. In the 90's I hated all drives because they were slow and expensive and I remember Western Digital to be the worst of all of them.Fast forward to 2011 and Amazon starts selling the 2 TB and 3 TB bare OEM Western Digital drives really cheap. So I thought $69 bucks for a 2 TB drive how bad could it be, right? Well as it turns out they are great. They access data fast and do not create a lot of heat. Even the 3 TB version of which I have 2, is fast and runs cool. Buying a 3 TB bare drive can be tricky unless you know that you have to use GPT and not MBR partitioning. Once you get it partitioned and formatted via USB then u can plug it in to sata or eSata and it will work fine.As we all know since the horrible hurricane that has hit Thailand, hard drive prices have doubled and sometimes tripled. Western Digital just bought Hitachi's hard drive business unit and hard drive manufacturing plants and guess where they are located? I have still been buying the 2 TB for $129 but I am glad I stocked up on 3 of them when they were $69. Aaahh, the good ol' days. You remember 'em. When hard drives were cheap way back in 2010.....................

I bought this to put in an enclosure and use strictly as a backup drive. So the spin rate was more than acceptable, and the reliability of the WD brand was essential. No complaints at all. The enclosure went together fine and the drive was recognized and mounted easily. Runs with Macrium to back up my system. Pretty quiet and stays cool in the enclosure without a fan. For the price and reliability, excellent drive.

I have five of these WD 2TB Green SATA III hard drives in my FreeNAS home media server. They are formatted with the ZFS files system configured in a RAIDZ Level 1 volume. I have not had any problems with these drives in two months of 24/7 usage. The server is relatively quiet, which is a plus as it is sitting in my living room up by the TV, and it runs cool, even with five of these drives installed. I highly recommend this drive for media server usage.

Got two of these bad boys and they both installed with Windows 8 without a hitch. Placed them both in my Mediasonic HF2-SU3S2 ProBox 4 Bay Hard Drive Enclosure. Going to get two more at this price.

I have always been a Seagate man but since Seagate doesn't have a 3TB HDD in their "Green" series I went with the Western Digital. I use open air cooled SATA docking stations so I want a quiet hard drive. I have always thought that the Seagate drives were quiet until I got WD. This drive, even when inches away, is hard to hear. Impressed. Just goes to show brand loyalty is silly. Did you hear that Apple!

I bought this drive as a secondary storage drive on a system with a fast SSD system drive. I chose this for its large capacity and quiet operation. It's on the slower side for the current crop of hard disks, but that was not a concern as I don't use it as a primary drive.

Got this up and running inside of a day, but wasn't painless. I have a Mac Pro 1,1 and had some trouble getting it to just work. Once it was there and had my entire iTunes library, it was a little slow to seek, but seems to be working correctly now.

After reading the horror stories of customers getting bad DOA Western Digital drives lately (and Amazon even pulling the 3 TB drive out of inventory while they "investigate"), I was a bit hesitant. Space was getting very low and the newly purchased Drobo was sitting there empty and waiting, so I ordered the 2.5 TB drive which was still offered with Amazon Prime and it arrived quickly the next day. The two drives arrived packaged in individual cardboard boxes, with supports, inside of a larger box with the standard Amazon air bags. Did not see any visible signs of damage from bouncing around on the UPS truck.For the price, the 2.5 TB was a no-brainer compared to the 3 TB models which as of this writing are significantly more expensive. Hopefully manufacturing capabilities in Thailand improve from the 2011 flooding, prices are still very high compared to a year ago, but what can you do when you need space? After upgrading the Drobo firmware to be able to see drives that are greater than 2 GB, everything is working fine and I have two green lights with my first two 2.5 TB Caviar Greens. Will hold out as long as I can for prices to drop on the 3 TB models before adding some more to the Drobo, and let's hope that Amazon works out the kinks in shipping their bare drives.

First things first: This hard drive is slow. It is not meant to be a main hard drive. I installed this on a personal-built PC, with the main drive being the Crucial m4 (SSD). I installed the OS and all programs on the SSD, and all my iTunes library on the Caviar Green. When opening iTunes, there is a lag (which doesn't happen if the library is on the SSD), which is noticeable, but acceptable. Once the hard drive has woken up, the lag isn't very noticeable. Since it is a green drive, it tries to go to sleep more often than not. If this is going to bother you, buy the Caviar Blue or the Caviar Black.Buy this drive if you need a back-up or a media drive. Do not buy this drive as a primary OS hard drive, instead buy the Blue or the Black.Second thing, this drive is quiet, which is very important. I returned a Seagate drive because of a chirping sound it kept making. This drive is amazingly quiet.I highly recommend the SSD for your main OS drive, and the Caviar Green for the back-up or media drive. You won't regret it.
