I received 3 3 tb hard drive and 2 out of 3 were dead. I did a rma with western digital and they sent a quick turnaround once they received the shipment. I didn't do a return to amazon because they were temporary out of the hard disks. The replacement hard disks are working great with drobo.

it wass well packd and delverd well, no damge i am from saudi arabia and its hard to return the packege if ther is damge so i am hapy i bout 5X3TB WD for my synology dx510 ther real size of a 3TB HD is 2794.52 GB and for the 2TB 1863.02 GB, i did Raid 5 to all 3TB HDD and came with a 10.89 TB with one of them for protection this HardDisk is not the best HardDisk but its good for medum userse if you have a company and use servers 24/7 you suld go to the enterprise Hard Disk

I ordered one of these last week and it arrived DOA. Win7 couldn't format it. HD Tune Pro found multiple bad blocks and reported it would take 1,100,000 more hours to complete the scan. I returned the drive and got a replacement. Same story, except the bad blocks started a little farther into the scan. Clearly quality control problems with WD drives.The good news is Amazon service. The RMA was automatic and postage paid. Replacement arrived in one day. With other vendors you'd pay $10 shipping and wait 5-7 days for a replacement. Ditto for the second RMA, but Amazon suggested that I was having a bad run and maybe should buy a different drive. Three cheers for Amazon service.I've given up on the 2 TB drives. I ordered two of the 1.5 TB drives instead. If they both work, one will go on the shelf. Looking at the reviews on Amazon and Egghead, there's less than a 2% chance that I could get 4 bad drives in a row. My fingers are crossed.

I've been running this for a week or so in my home theater PC. I haven't pushed it hard (recording/watching the occasional tv show), but it seems to work fine, and I had no issues setting it up. I wouldn't recommend this drive for heavy usage, as it is not made for that purpose. I can't hear the drive at all. It arrived in perfect condition, in sufficient packaging. Others have noted issues with quality control with these drives, but so far, so good for me!

Worked great, out of the box. I have it in a docking station as an external HD, and it has worked fine since arrival. My 2nd WD HD and I have no complaints.

I bought this hard drive just in February, three months ago. Few days ago it reported many dead blocks when I checked it with Western Digital Disk tools. Then it just failed to the point that it is not even mounting anymore.

Reasonably quite. Seems to perform well. So far so good. When I bought it this was the least expensive 2TB 7200 RPM sata drive. I find it good value for the money.

I bought this to replace a broken 1.5 Tb disk. So far this seems to be fine. No issues. It is still as quiet as the old 1.5 TB disk no complaints. This went into a 4 bay disk array with 3 other 1.5 Tb drives.

I installed this in my puter. 1st no mounting screws, 2nd no instructions, 3 no cables to hook to boards. After running around town to aquire the necessary hardware to hooked it up. It ran great and is still going with out a problem.Gave 4 stars because no instruction, or mounting screws. The cables I found don't come with it. Shipping was fast and packaging was good.

I've been running this hard drive for about a month now as a secondary (back-up) drive and I have no complaints. Very quiet hard drive. Always have liked Western Digital's quality on their hard drives!

Took a chance on this drive due to the glowing reviews (even though it has some bad ones also). Never even got a chance to try it since it was dead on arrival.*EDIT* 8 Mar 2012Took another chance. Returned the DOA, and got another one from Amazon. It also arrived DOA. All my other hard drives that I have show up so I dont think its me. Gonna look for a different brand I guess.

One of my frustrations with Amazon is they're not consistent in providing spindle speeds for hard drives. So, instead of going to Western Digital and checking I figured, "Hey its the end of 2011, nobody is still producing 5400 rpms anymore are they?", and went ahead and bought this. First let me say that the ordering/receiving process was first rate. No problems there. Saying that, after I bought this unit I came upon somebody's blog, can't remember where, which stated that hard drives carrying the label "Green" are slow spinning drives, i.e., 5400. Wanting 7200, I disappointed myself because I didn't check first. So, if you're looking for a 7200 rpm'er. This, and apparently all Green drives, ain't for you. Aside from that the drives runs fine.

its not the best but its stills ok... too expensive for me... but its worth it... I recommend to buy a Solid state drive instead of these cause this hard drive isnt the best at all...

installed this drive with no problem but could not get Windows 7 to recognize it. It showed in the device manager but not in Drive Management and no amount of turning off firewalls would help. Called tech support and got to speak with a freal person in short order but all he told me to do was download two apps from WD website which didn't work either. Drive is being shipped back to Amazon in exchange for a Seagate.

My background - very experienced computer user. I have built them from scratch and play around with them all the time.I was excited about the prospect of this drive... energy efficient, SATA 3, 64MB Cache, 2.5 TB - sounds great. Even paid for overnight delivery.Unfortunately, the one I got worked sometimes, not others. Got messages around 'bad sectors'. Could not fix. Worked fine as an externally attached hard drive (most of the time). Did not work at all internally when connected to SATA cables.Sunday, I gave up and bought a Seagate Barracuda Green 2 TB drive at BestBuy. Connected the SATA cables and works flawlessly. I was up and running in less than ten minutes.I have had plenty of Western Digital drives in the past, but, this is my first "dud" from them. So sometimes you get a bad drive. It happens. Not happy about this drive, but, I wont necessarily exclude WD from the future. But, if the Seagate continues to run great, they will be my first choice.I will update this review if the Seagate goes down. (It would only be fair.)

I initialized it using a GUID Partition Table (GPT) and performed an initial long format. It formatted to 2.7 TB (3 TB actual). It finished in a few hours; then I copied it full of videos. Transfer rates were in the 90-100 mb/sec range. The source drives used for this copy operation were only SATA II capable, but current mechanical Hard Drive surface xfer rates don't exceed SATA II spec. anyway (3Gb / sec). Thus the SATA III interface (6Gb / sec) on this drive is overkill.It is now part of my Win 7 Media system and is being used as a buffer for my DVDs; allowing push button access to my movies without having to get up and load them into the DVD player each time I want to watch. Video plays back smooth and nice.Great price (apprrox $41 per terabyte) and I guess time will tell how reliable they are... ;-)Update 09/29/2012:1 year and STILL going strong. :-)

I try not to review things like this right away, because hard drives can often be defective, then need to be shipped back, and then of course at that point the transaction is not really complete..Well, this worked out great from the start and I've had no problems.I have been satisfied with this purchase.

Used to always trust WD drives over other vendors especially Seagate. However, more recently, it looks like the Quality & Dependability of these hard drives have gone down the tubes.I had ordered 2 x WD 2TB internal drives (WD20EARX) from Amazon. Received the drives and had them configured in RAID-1 configuration without any problems. In a little less than 3 weeks one of the two drives failed. I was lucky that the drive failed in < 30 days as I was able to do a standard Amazon return as oppose to going through the hard drive manufacturer.Going to replace the failed drive with another WD drive to see if I just happened to get a bad apple. If WD do not work out the 2nd time around, I'll have to switch to Hitachi brand.

Just remember to set the jumper if you only have a Sata 3gb/sec MOBO. I plugged it in, powered up to Windows 7, and formatted the drive using the GUID Partition Table (GPT). Works like a champ.

First of all, I would not recommend this drive or any WD Caviar drives for a RAID setup. I initially tried to set these up in RAID 1 and ran into problems and slow access times. I contacted WD and they told me they are not designed for RAID and they don't guarantee them to work in RAID (apparently they have a separate model for that). Next, I ran them as solo drives, but just wanted satisfied with their performance. It is a 5400 rpm drive, and it is designed for value, rather than speed.I understand the need for some people to value price over speed, so I took that into consideration and just tried to evaluate it on performance against other models. I did some benchmarking on it and it just doesn't compare to the Samsung Spinpoint F4EG 2 TB SATA2 5400rpm 32 MB Hard Drive HD204UI/Z4 which is the same price but outperformed this drive.

I bought 2 hard drives, and had them installed in a RAID configuration using a synology disk manager. Everything seemed to work fine, until one hard drive crashed last night. It's disappointing to have stumbled into such bad luck, but I'm going to go ahead and purchase another drive. I'll see what happens.

I'm a computer technician who manages numerous client storage arrays. I purchased 6 (six) of the Western Digital WD20EARS drives in April 2011 to fill one array (previous version of the WD20EARX shown here). Two have failed (accumulative bad sectors) thus far. That's a 33% failure rate within a six month period. Luckily I have these setup in mirrored arrays or the data would have been lost. I have RMA'd one of the drives so far back to Western Digital under warranty. The replacement drive failed (Click of Death) in less than a week.I have a friend who manages a data center in South Fla. When I mentioned my predicament he told me he had experienced the same. It's his company's policy to purchase only Samsung or Seagate due to Western Digital's failure rate.Buyer beware with Western Digital.

I was never a fan of Western Digital drives...until I tried these 2 drives. VERY quite, fast...replaced two drives in a LaCie 2BigTriple and they now outperforms the original drives in both speed and sound. these drives are nearly silent...highly recommended!

Unfortunately the green drives are still unreliable. I have to replace this with another drive because of the horrible clicking noise the drive has started to produce in my Synology.

While this disk is not a sreamer by any means, it's awesome for storing tons of valuable data. It's cheap enough to buy several for a RAID array yet, good enough performance to access it and not take days to migrate your data. All in all, I would recommend for storage applications....

Great price and good product. Worked OK for more than 1 month now (02/27/12).Great for cloning master hard drive (i.e. just in case the master boot drive is corrupted)and use it as a backup hard drive to store large video files.Speed is OK as a backup drive.

I purchased this drive based on good experiences with other Western Digital Drives. Unfortunately, this one had problems on three computers so I called WD Technical Support and after several tests it was determined that the hard drive had "too many bad sectors" to complete a low level test of the drive. It is going back to Amazon. I have two other WD green drives that have no problems so this might just be a lemon. Thus, the three stars rather than 1. It is still a hassle exchanging drives.

Lots of important data lost after just a few short months of usage with the WD20EURS HARD DRIVE. What is the point of buying energy efficient drives if they die early? Better back your data up if you own this one!

I ordered an internal 3 GHz Hard Drive made by Western Digital so that I could store my photographs within my computer. The price was great from Amazon and the drive worked very well. It greatly increased the amount of data that i could store internally and made data transfer much faster than with an external drive. I like it very much.Jim Hyatt

I bought this drive to store backups of my desktop and notebook computers. I've been running it for about 2 months without problems. The access speeds are acceptable for a storage (video, backup, NAS) applications or as a secondary drive. However, I would not recommend this drive for desktop or gaming systems.Fortunately, I bought it at $150 before the great Thailand flood. Should have bought more. :-(Running FreeBSD 9.0 RC1 with ZFS using 4K sectors as a secondary storage drive. My primary application and OS drive is a Western Digital 1 TB RE4 SATA 3 Gb/s 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Enterprise Hard Drive - WD1003FBYX

I ordered the product asking and paying for the 2 day shipping, it took a week just for UPS to recognize the package in "track shipment, then another two weeks for it to get to me. i ordered 6 of these drives they are fine and work great but DON'T PAY FOR THE EXPRESS SHIPPING. it would have been better for me to drive across the country and pick them up my self with time to spare.

Length:: 0:21 MinsThe disk is very quiet and very low temperature, the only bad thing is that is programmed to turn off every 8 seconds to save power and it makes slow but already clear that temporalized and doing well now I have it in no problem sata II one.Greetings .... From Venezuela.

This drive replaced a failing Seagate 750 GB SATA on an eMachine. A breeze to Clone from the original drive. Quieter and faster, too. As for "the Amazon experience," there's none better in the purchase and delivery department.
