Review: I bought this one because of the wireless ability. While I did read the reviews and was skeptical, I wanted to see for myself. I connected the first day after installing the drivers, but when I logged on to use it the next day I had to run the driver installation again. No problem since, and I've had it for about four days. The size is nice. Comparable to my other tablet I find the usable space is no smaller.
The pen is thin and light. It hurts my hand to use it for long periods of time due to the thinness. The surface of the tablet seem smooth when you look at it, but when you use the nib against it there is a resistance. I believe it is the nib, and not the surface as others have stated, as it leaves a residue on the tablet. The nib just kind of wears away.
The precision of the lines as I draw is amazing. I don't like the fact that my pressure depicts the opacity. I'm used to pressure equalling thickness of lines.
Overall I give this product three stars. There is not much about it that would make me want to purchase this again. Yes, the color is nice, but I need functionality. I don't like that I'll have to get more nibs soon since after 4 six hour days I am through the first one. I wouldn't suggest this for a professional who needs to spend a large amount of time working. For a beginner or hobbyist, it would be great.
The tracking on the tablet makes it completely unusable.
The cursor jumps across the screen a quarter inch at a time, causing anything but the largest movements to be completely futile.
But with this it works just as good as if I was using a pencil, pen or paintbrush. I no longer have to scan in my drawings.
If you have an older tablet and are thinking about upgrading, get this. The small size works fine. At one time I used a large size and almost got carpal syndrome, so I would not use one that big again. As to the medium size, I never had one, but this works perfectly fine, particularly if you don't have a lot of desktop space for it.
wacom and corel, both of you are idiots.if you include software with the tablet all I should have to do is download the software, register the product and enjoy the tablet. i spent most of my time on the phone with wacom customer service and then corel customer service, nothing comes of it.
if you're going to include corel aftershot3 software with the tablet at least have the common sense to make it easier to use, I shouldn't have to need a serial number to use the damn software it is FREE it came with the damn tablet. all of that tech and computer coding at MIT and your software developers still don't know what the hell you're doing, make the software usable, is that too much to ask?
The one really big sticking point for me is the poor bluetooth connectivity. I decided to spring for it and spend the extra money so I could avoid a trillion dongles sticking out of my mac book. Unfortunately the connectivity is consistently very poor and there is heavy lag between your movements and what happens on screen. I've installed the latest driver and tried it on several different computers with the same results.
TLDR; Get the tablet is great, just save your money and grab the wired version.
I recommend to anyone buying their first tablet that the extra money you might have to pay for a Wacom tablet versus the competition is paid back to you exponentially in the form of superior software and tablet performance.
Bluetooth connectivity. No matter how many different devices I connect this thing to, and no matter where I use it, the amount of lag when drawing in Bluetooth mode makes this thing completely unusable. I resorted to only drawing using the included USB cable for the time that I had it.
My recommendation: Save your money and buy the cheaper non-Bluetooth version, or, don't rely on Bluetooth for any precise work.
This Wacom Intuos tablet is a wonderful product with a horrible start-up experience. After that, it's a breeze and my design production is already off the hook. Later problems requiring tech support might be a nightmare, from what I've ready, but it's worth it to me to pay so little for the best tablet and pen brand on the market.
(Separately I purchased a retractable stylus leash so I won't lose the pen, check to see if any Wacom tablet features 2 tiny holes in the upper-right corner for attaching the cord. There are also self-stick leashes available. Easiest way to never lose the pen and still store it in the same space!)
I really love the fact that this device also comes with two softwares. I downloaded Corel Painter Essentials 6 and Clip Studio Paint. Both are fantastic softwares and certainly add to the experience. The device itself is sleek, slim, and light. I couldn't be happier, especially for the price.
Original thoughts-
I purchased this for my daughter as a Christmas present since she loves drawing and wanted to start being able to do more on her laptop. Reviews I read were promising for a sub $100 device and I hadn't seen any current complaints about their support or setup issues. However, they must be running their back end platform on some old PC-Jr equipment because it took well over 3 hours to simply download the drivers due to consistent website errors, timeouts and generally terrible performance. Once the driver software was installed it appears to be 100% impossible to register this product to download the actual "included" art software as you need to register first. I've tried this for multiple machines now and Houston we have a problem. The driver software includes the Wacom Desktop app which allows you change settings and has the link to download the software, but there does not appear to be any way to register the device from the app. If you try to redeem the software you are sent to page that will eventually, after numerous attempts, will bring you to a page letting you know that you must first register from the desktop app, or manually. As noted, the desktop app doesn't seem to be able to register, however if you attempt to register manually and put in the model number it kindly lets you know that you must register from the app, so that's perfect. It has taken over an hour of battling their garbage site to locate a number to call for support (1-855-699-2266 for those in a similar situation) directly, we'll see how long I'm hold - I do have the option to leave a call back number, but I trust that about as much as I'd my cat to operate heavy machinery).
So we're stuck with Photoshop because at least you can pan around with the space bar and switch between tools with the keyboard. If you surf around on the internet for tips on how to get this thing to work better, you'll find that there's a strange and seemingly arbitrary work around where you write a text file and put it into the Photoshop program folders, then disable "Microsoft Ink" (whatever that is) and your tablet *should* work just fine. Ah, but wait, now whenever I turn the Intuos on *after* Photoshop is up and running it's a 50/50 chance that the driver will crash and you'll have to go restart it which will also make Photoshop freak out so I gotta restart Photoshop too. Save and organize all your work now so you can find it again when Photoshop is done loading up. This happens more often than you think because remember it's Bluetooth; if you leave the pen sitting for a second too long it times out, or you had it plugged into the USB and now you need that USB to charge something else, or you need to charge it so you plug it into the USB.
I'm sure there are fixes for these issues as well because PC users are good at figuring out what's wrong with their machines and they're great about posting those fixes on the internet, but why on earth would you subject yourself to needing to do all the work when Wacom should make better firmware for their products.
My experience using this device for several months now has been frustrating and overall very unpleasant. Don't bother with this thing. Save up a little more and get a refurbished iPad or a Surface.
Idk why people are acting like its a difficult setup, maybe they troubleshot the issues people were experiencing, but basically, plug it in and install the tablet software from the download link printed in the tiny(really tiny) set up guide it comes with... restart computer... use the wacom desktop feature to log in(which will direct you to their website to set up a login) once your email is confirmed, you receive a follow up email with the extra programs info: names/serial keys(just in case you need them😉) then on the wacom desktop or on the website you just set a login to, follow the link for available software and redeem/download the programs! So easy!! Run program set ups from the download file and TA DUH!! You just got a free tablet plus saved a few bucks on the side for what you would pay for all the programs collectively here on amazon separate!!
$60- Corel Paint Studio Pro
$35- Corel AfterShot 3
$50- Corel Paint Essentials 7
+ A tablet and pen to work with!!
..........
So far functionally, It was a trip how you dont have to touch the pad for it to register the pen hovering to move your mouse cursor... fun and interesting experience! Im using it instead of my mouse right now trying to get used to it.... if you're looking for a decent little tablet thats affordable, CHOOSE THIS ONE!!
The only reasons I didn't give 5 stars:
The surface seems a lot rougher than my old one, so the nib has worn down pretty quick in comparison, it comes with 3 extra but eventually i'll need to buy more.
When i click away from the drawing program and come back to it i cant make any marks on the canvas until i lift the pen away and put it down again. not a huge problem but a little weird.
