I bought the product base the review, despite some of the very favorable and bad review. However, if given a chance, I would not buy the product again.I bought this to replace 6-year old Siemens cable modem, and the Linksys N-series router. The router was still good.The installation went very well. However, to enable the wireless connection, it did not work for various devices in the house, eventually I had to manually go into router to set a less secure personal WEP in order for some of the devices to work. I am pretty sure someone would run into the same problem with not compatible wireless security keys.Did not see any differences on speed of the modem and router with speed test vs. the old one.The one thing I do not like is the modem/router turn very hot in about 1 hour of work. Time will tell if it will last, but with this kind of thermal, I am very skeptical.Update: for a week now, I feel I hate this router than Linksys even more. VPN keep dropping and ...Disappointed.

This TP Link product seems like a very good router. I have been unable to connect the modem to my ISP due to the fact that my ISP uses DHCP to setup my address and so far I have not found a way to set that up. The other requirement is that i use no user name and password.I have contacted TP Link, and due to what appears to be a language barrier was unable to find out so far how to connect using that simple setup or to find out IF I can use that simple setup. Very frustrating. The router setup software was useless. Came up with pictures of two routers and made sure i understood that it was important to choose the right one. Since they were quite different looking it was pretty easy. The part way through the setup the picture changed to the other one and the software hung up. Tried to set up manually and could never find a DHCP setup.

Unlike some other DSL modems, this one was simple to set up right the first time.It comes with a variety of ISP specific profiles to simplify configuration - all you really need is the user name and password for your DSL service.The router is very flexible, providing many more options and capabilities than typically seen in home routers. This allows you to not only secure your network from outside threats, but to partition the local LAN. This allows PCs that are potentially compromised (and guests using WiFi) to be isolated from PCs that you want to keep secure.Another major plus is the WiFi radio having an exceptional range and connecting at higher rates than my previous routers. This is the first router I've owned that covers my entire house.Needless to say, this is a much better alternative than any of the modems or modem/routers that AT&T offers.One warning: do NOT flash the ROM. There have been many reports of people killing their units by flashing the wrong ROM. The update software does not validate that the ROM image is intended for this model, and there are several very similar model numbers that have caused a lot of people to download the wrong file.

I had a really old modem and a separate Cisco router as the backbone of my DSL network at home. I put plenty of strain on the network, for sure. In addition to 2 iPhones that are constantly on the wifi, I have 4 hard-wired connections to my network (2 TiVo Premiere DVR's, 1 desktop computer, 1 Roku streaming box), 2 additional wifi Roku boxes, a wifi Kindle e-reader, a wifi printer, and a wifi laptop (on which I am writing this review). Yes, that means I have 11 devices running on my network virtually everyday, and this combination modem/router performs like a champ. I was hoping that perhaps I might actually outperform the speed of my old modem/router combination, but I do not. Anyway, I tested the upload/download speed of my computer (with a simple utility at CNET.com) both before and after the conversion, and this unit performs equally well. Installation was very intuitive and quick. Really, I have no complaints, especially when I consider the price I paid for the device. Buy with confidence!

I have had the TP-link for about a month. I have been very happy with it so far.We did have to call AT&T for help getting it going, and their customer service did a good job. Like others have said, the customer service is not great from TP-link, partly due to not speaking English very well.We have had DSL for several years and I didn't want want to change, getting this TP-link was mylast ditch attempt at keeping DSL. For a couple of years I have had problems with my connection getting dropped. I have always used 2-wire, through AT&T. In just 12 months, I had two new 2-wire modems yet I was still dropped many times a day. I had them out to try to fix the line, and the modem tested as OK. They finally gave me a new wired connection from the main port outside, to my modem. When the connection still dropped regularly, I figured it must be the modem after all. It was through reviews for this one, that I decided to give my DSL one last try via this TP-link. So far with TP-link we haven't been dropped!! My conclusion is that it was faulty 2-wire modems, even though they were only months old. Looking up reviews on 2-wire, then reviews of so many others, getting a good modem is it's own challenge! I recommend this TP-link, and hope you are as satisfied as I have been... now I just have to cross my fingers and hope that it keeps up the good work!

This Wireless router modem was a nice upgrade to what i had. (2 Wire 2701) My old one would disconnect at certain times or not stream to Directv. This one hasn't had a problem to date. The only thing keeping it from getting a 5 Star is the inability to control connection times to the internet for Wireless devices. You can for Wired devices plugged in, but not wireless (at least not that I could find). Otherwise, I like it. Easy setup (except the idiot at Qwest/Century Link who couldn't understand what I was asking for. All he kept saying is that they don't carry these Modems. All I needed was the Connection information as the Modem had Qwest and CenturyLink connection info, but since I CenturyLink took over Qwest, what do I use?).. Anyway, I had to figure that on my own and it worked great.

I have tried to use it as a DSL modem with WiFi routing capability, and as a stand alone WiFi router with cable modem (which needs multi-step configuration). In both cases, it worked fairly straight forwards. I first bought "Actiontec GT701D Ethernet DSL Modem", which overheat and dropped connection. ATT network was not stable as well, but that is a different story. I then replaced it with this unit, which gave me appreciable improvement in stability of connection. Later I cancelled ATT DSL due to limitation and stability of performance, and replaced it with Comcast cable, which allows me to stream online video with only sporadic buffering.With cable modem, I configured LAN port-1 into a WAN port, following an step-by-step instruction at this link: [...] , which includes screen shots which made reading fairly easy. Total set-up took me about 30 min, and now it functions as a pure WiFi router! Performance is comparable to my Netgear WiFi router. Another benefits for this model is that its two antennas can be replaced with higher gain type simply with unscrewing. TP-Link does a excellent job in providing users with instrumental online instructions. The pure WiFi router capability is beyond advertised.

I have Verizon DSL and have been using a Verizon branded Actiontecwireless modem router. Thought I'd update to N and a newer unit.Big mistake. Couldn't get it to see my ISP. ADSL light came on oncebut then would only come on for a second then go out. Same for theInternet light. Tried a full reset, still no luck. Found out over at theTP-Link Forum that other people were having the same problem.As well there were posts that service would stop under somestreaming video. Sometimes WI-FI would quit working for a fewmoments, then the connection signal would work again.Who needs problems like this ? I sure don't. It's packed up headingback to Amazon Monday. As always, Amazon was very helpful withmy return. Something Q*C should take a lesson from.

Pro: Works really well. Setup is easy. Even though the router (wireless) is in the basement, it streams movies flawlessly to my smart TV upstairs. I also have a cabin about 100 feet or so behind my house where I get two bars on my signal strength meter, after going through two brick walls to get there. In rainy weather, it falls to one bar.Con: We sleep in the basement and the green indicator lights are bright to the point of putting a brick or something in front of it, so we can sleep. I realize I can unplug it at night (which I don't like to do), but a power switch would be really handy on this device. Additionally, I have another wireless router equipped so that if I lose my dsl, the internet input light turns red. It saves a bit of troubleshooting.Wrap-up: Add a power button/switch and a red light "Bingo," You have the perfect wireless router, and the fifth star.

Purchased this 6 months ago, not from amazon. Had a small amount of difficulty setting up, but quickly I figured it out on my own with some research. An inexperienced person may have some difficulty, depending on the setup. Overall not bad, I wouldn't knock any stars here.Had some luck early on with our smartphones, but at some point it went to where it would only connect intermittently. Both my wife and I have quit bothering to try. Usually no issue with our laptops, but if an issue does develop a reboot solves it. I've upgraded firmware to the latest version, did not solve my smartphone woes. Both of us have Droid RAZR. If I could ever sort out my issue with my phones, I would rate 5 star.

I received the item today and it was a breeze to set up. I only had one blip in which I had to call ATT to get the computer generated password for when it requires username and password. The username was my ATT email address but i did need that computer generated pw. Had it not been for that set up took 5 min and I'm already noticing a difference in speed and wireless connection compared to my old modem and router. I highly recommend this unit. Great deal for the price. You won't find another unit that will beat this for the money. (BTW if you have to call ATT they will tell you it is not a "supported device" this doesnt mean you can't use it, it only means they don't have the capability of troubleshooting it with you, if you are calling to set it up, just confirm with them that you have all the appropriate parameters set, it's very simple.)

Bought this modem a couple months ago to replace a Trendnet modem. As soon as I had it installed, I was less than impressed. The wi-fi signal was weaker and slower than an old 2WIRE modem it replaced (with no antennas). I contacted their tech support and was told to "just try different channels", which I did, with no change or improvements. I went back to the manual and checked all my settings, but the wi-fi remained weak. About a month later, the wi-fi started to drop and the modem had to be reset regularly (about 3-5 times a week). Another month later and the modem died all together. The company provides "live" tech support M-F during normal business hours- hope you modem knows that when it goes down! This was the fourth DSL modem I have purchased, and I would have to say the worst in both signal and reliability. My rhetorical response to their tech support- just try another modem.

I bought this locally after my old zoom-brand router+modem finally died. Before that, my internet connection would often randomly drop. At the time I thought the problem was AT&T service, but in retrospect it was definitely my old modem+router. AT&T service is actually very stable and fast when you're equipment works!So I feel silly for not replacing my old router sooner, especially since the TP-Link only cost $75 at my local Frys, and was extremely easy to setup. The CD was "idiot-proof" with animated step-by-step instructions, and there was a pamphlet specifically explaining the configurations used by AT&T, Verizon, Qwest, Earthlink, etc (even the differences depending on the state you are in). The WIFI setup was painless and had WPA2-PSK authentication (this allows up to a 64-character password).The box also includes a splitter (DSL filter), 2 3-foot telephone cables (RJ-11), and 1 3-foot ethernet cable (RJ-45). (If you don't have these things already, this is basically all you technically need, though I would also buy longer cables.) The signal is very strong compared to what I was using before (a simple netgear wireless router). It's also sits sturdily and doesn't get pulled by the cables it's connected to.I've had it for only a month but so far so good. I'm powering it through a UPS (battery), and protecting the line-in through a surge protector. I'm resting it in a way so that all 8-faces are exposed to air (to reduce the risk of overheating), and I'm using an extremely long wlan password. I hope that means I'm set.I have not had any internet drops or had to "reboot" it at all since I've had it. And, I can now play games online without disconnect while other computers are browsing the internet (something I could not do before). So like I said, it looks like AT&T had always been stable and my problem for years had just been a crappy router+modem. I guess that should be worth noting to anyone reading this. Learn from my mistake. It is not normal for a DSL connection to drop every hour or so on its own. If you are experiencing this, it is most likely your modem/router (even if it shows that LAN is still working while internet is down). There really is no reason to put up with an unstable connection. Prices have also gone down and quality improved in the last couple of years. So just go and buy a new modem+router+WLAN, and be sure to protect it. Stable internet is such a good feeling!

I wanted to like this device but it causes more headaches than I want to deal with. It drops connections too often. It took a while to get their tech support to understand the problem and they wanted me to switch channels. I tried several and finally one channel seemed to work. Later it started dropping again and it would drop all of my wireless devices at the same time for a few minutes. At least its only a few times a week but still very annoying compared to the netgear device it replaced. I was too lazy to send it back so I setup a wireless access point and hardwired it to this so now its just a dsl modem.

The visual instructions for the >physical< install were excellent for me.However when I clicked the next button to start the assisted sofware install (of the hardware's parameters), it literally crashed my XP system (sp3) - twice. I got it up and working, but not with any extra help.I'll rate it's performance after I've used it longer.If you're not accostomed to intalling this type of device, it may be a challenge without some additional assistance.I might as well complain about the packing too: My unit sat inside a well protected molded/formed cardboard-like material. BUT the top of my unit had no additional protection except for the very thin retail box material. If it gets bumped on the bottom :) But it gets bumped on the top :( ???

I purchased this product November 2011. It arrived ahead of schedule and setup was not the easiest but got it working after an hour. It replaced a another modem/router that I thought was going bad due to bad drop outs. Unit started to drop connection for no reason and worked with technical support to resolve it. Turns out it was a defective unit and they had me return it and replaced it with no cost to me. New unit has been installed and working great for the last year. Liked they immediately sent a new unit when they determined it was defective without any restocking fee or shipping cost. Good customer service.

I purchased this ADSL2 modem/wireless router to replace a ZyXEL PK5000Z unit that we were leasing from CenturyLink (Phoenix, AZ). The ZyXEL modem regularly dropped the wireless connection to our computer. We had to reboot the ZyXEL modem at least once a day, and sometimes several times a day, to keep the wireless links working.The TP-LINK TD-W8960N has been running several days with no dropped connections; already a vast improvement over the ZyXEL modem. It was fairly easy to set up via manual method. I had to call the CenturyLink Technical Support line for help with a couple settings. They were very helpful, and I had this router operating in no time at all. The two settings which Technical Support gave me were VPI = 0, and VCI = 32. Of course, you need your CenturyLink user ID and password, too. Once I set these parameters, the router starting working great.The unit has been running continuously for about a week. The case top measures 36C with an ambient temperature of 23C. The case bottom measures 41C. Both case measurements were taken at the center of the top and bottom case labels. The case is warm to the touch, but not hot, by my sense of things.So far, I really like this modem/wireless router. I set my new router up to duplicate the wireless SSID and password of the old ZyXEL modem. This let me power up the new one, and power down the old one without having to adjust the computers and gaming platforms that wirelessly connect to the modem. Don't run both wireless routers at the same time, if they are configured with the same SSID and passwords; power off the old router when this one is working.The router provides excellent wireless connectivity for our large 2-story home. It handles streaming video, gaming, and computers with no perceived problems in video quality or upload/download speeds. I'll post an update when the unit gets more operating time logged. So far, I'm impressed with this unit.

TP-LINK TD-W8960n Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Routewasted two hours trying to get this POS to connect to my ISP's internet. very tedious and difficult to setup and then it didn't work. the instruction book was written by a Chinese geek who never used this DSL modem, no support either. the 2wire DSL modem is mostly auto-setup and connects to the internet and my four Ethernet devises and five wireless devises just fine.

This modem is very well constructed, it doesnt feel cheap although is very light, I wanted this because my cable and internet company where I live sells Huawei routers that are significantly inferior to a TP LINK and for double the price, so I wanted something that was quality made, not too expensive but at the same time efficient in giving me a constant wifi signal in my two story house. I wanted a router that had a adsl connection for my telephone line, so the TP link w8960N was the best choice for all of the above factors. It has been functioning for 1 month and I havent had any problems with the signals anymore, so I can definetly recommend this product to you all

I bought this to replace my dead modem after reading the reviews (compared to other brands). I am NOT a Geek (but I love them!) - but it took me only about FIVE MINUTES to set this up!! I followed directions carefully (They were a little redundant) The biggest problem was repeatedly entering my password - - that's how SIMPLE the setup was! The only real issue I had was connecting my older HP 4780 wireless printer - had to delete the driver and reinstall to get it to look for the new network. The newer 6510 recognized the network in about 15 seconds. I am running a desktop, laptop, the 2 printers, iPad, 2 iPhones - and all work GREAT. This was a great value - even with one day shipping it was less expensive that the modem/router that my ISP wanted to ship me. I can't say that my speed is any better than the OLD OLD modem - but then I AM on a small rural ISP which barely makes its advertised DSL speed.I would recommend this to ANYONE who wants an easy setup, basic modem/router.

Received the item very quickly. Easy to setup. Plug and play on AT&T DSL service. Purchased to replace AT&T's 2701 to be able to use 802.11n. Coverage was the same, speed over Ethernet was same. Unit does get hot as others indicated. Plastic housing exceeded 100 degrees without the wireless turned on. I returned the unit because of the constantly connecting and disconnecting to our Exchange Server. Tried several fixes but problem remained. Probably would not purchase again even if the disconnecting issue was corrected because of the unit exceeding 122 degrees at times.

I purchased this item after the 2Wire modem from AT&T broke on us. I received the product and hooked it up very quickly. The installation options (disc, or IP) were easy to understand and use. Have had no issues with this since its purchase. Very good option IMO.

I'm living in Kansas and this worked as advertised with AT&T DSL. It saved me $40 versus buying a router from AT&T directly, plus it is an N router rather than a G router I would have gotten from them. Been using it for a couple months now and it has been reliable.

I used this for a month it worked great. Setup was easy and we had very few issues. I did move the unit to channel 6 and left it there. We have a lot wireless networks in our neighborhood of small homes and there may have been some issues with interference.
