Granted, I gave the original, larger PS2 a bad review a couple of years ago and swore I would not buy one again. However, I took a chance and got the slimer version and I couldn't be happier. The compact size, cheap games and ease of use make this console a winner. Plus, according to a recent article I read, the PS2 is still very popular, so this baby isn't dying anytime soon. In fact, if by some chance my current one dies, I will definitely buy another one, maybe one of the silver models.I do have an XBOX 360 and an original XBOX, and hope to get a PS3 way down the line. However, this PS2 will definitely keep me busy for a while, as I have a ton of games I have yet to play. I also want to get a wireless controller and an LCD screen for travel.

With all the hype about the PS3, Wii and XBox 360, take another look at the PS2. It has a huge library of games, a reliable system, and is inexpensive!The PS2, which launched in December 2001, uses DVDs as its storage medium, meaning the unit can double as a CD and DVD player. It is small, light for carrying around, and doesn't have the sound or heat problems that the 360 and PS3 have. It's extremely sturdy - we have two PS2s and haven't had any problems with either one.The graphics on the PS2 are very impressive, especially some of the later games where the game designers had years to learn how to take advantage of every last detail in the system's design. For a long while the XBox had a clear advantage with graphics, but with some of the recent releases, like Final Fantasy XIII, the cut scenes were just gorgeous.Speaking of Final Fantasy, with the PS2 you can play all games from the PS2 *and* PS1 series - meaning you can play every Final Fantasy game that is out. That alone could keep you occupied for months if not years. Guitar Hero is another fantasic game that is only on the PS2. The guitar controllers literally cannot plug into a PS3.Here's a pretty clear indicator of how good the PS2 system is. We've had the XBox 360 for a year, and got the Wii and PS3s right when they came out. Even so, we were still going back to our PS2 to play the games we had on it, rather than bother with moving our save games up to the PS3. The games were really that good.Sometimes it's not about high def super graphics. Sometimes it's about pure, fun gameplay. The PS2 has perfected that over the years, and there are numerous games on this system that have legions of fans. There's even a network port if you want to play online. Note that it doesn't have "built in wireless" - you have to plug a bridge or other wireless adaptor into the port to have it connect to your home wireless network. This is really easy to do, though, and I have full instructions if you need them.Well recommended, even in an age of next-gen consoles!

I bought one of the old PS2 systems when it came out and it worked very well. It was my DVD player as well as my video game console. When I went on vacation I accidentally left it on and it fried. After five good years of service, it finally died.I had to buy a replacement and so I bought the slimmer version. It works just as well as the other one did and takes up a lot less space on my TV stand. It plays all my games and my DVDs, so I am very satisfied with this Sony product.I refuse to buy a PlayStation 3 just because I refuse to spend a great wad of cash for a video game console. And with the new Black and White PS3 systems that are being released in November which do not feature PlayStation 2 compatibility, I don't see why I should buy a PS3 right now when it means I'd have to keep my PlayStation 2 just to play my PS2 games is pointless.If you're looking for a good game system for a low price, buy the PlayStation 2, it's very good for games and DVDs, especially since WII doesn't play DVDs.

This is our 2nd PS2 slim console since the 1st one was used up really good on long car trips & survived being banged & stepped on. Awesume rating due to the games available, PS1 & DVD-ROM compatibility, Sleek & portable on trips. Graphic quality is dependent on the game but GT & ATV series have awesome graphics, not to mention Final Fantasy games, just awesome! Finally, the price is right! PS3 needs to come down to this size!

I purchased this unit in January 2007 for use by my Grandson. Since this purchase my Grandson has been able to play this unit perhaps 4 times. I just received my 3rd replacement from Sony and it failed to work right out of the box. The units have not been mistreated, dropped or otherwise abused. I am disgusted with the pitiful quality of Sony's products. The first 2 units were returned for the "does not read disk" error. This last one, fresh from Laredo TX, simply grinds the laser into the center column. I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this system like the plague.

.Off the top... If you're a videophile, buy for gaming only... not as a DVD player. I'll explain in a minute.The latest PS2 77001 series isn't going to have PS3 or 360 graphics - but for $129.99 its still impressive.If you stay below... say a 37" in a 16:9 format, maintain a reasonable distance from the screen you should be pleased.And for $129.99 it does well... as a gaming machine.I own a 47" 1080p LCD.Picked up the latest PS2 and am irritated the unit will play certain games (not all) in 480p but not DVDs. Secondly, if you have a HD 16:9 set as I do the unit only produces 4:3 (Standard) and 4:3 (Letterbox, NOT 16:9). Up-converting sets like mine taking 480i to 1080p simply looks like [...].It does have an optical output and will send both DD and DTS.It has an Ethernet connection... no WiFi nor BlueTooth. It has USB connectors. Yes, you can go on the internet and connect a keyboard and mouse.Be further warned...Sony states the PS2 should not be hooked up to a plasma and/or projection tv as it will cause burn (damage).My experience so far... each game, if capable of 480p play, has to be instructed to do so manually and then the setting has to be stored on an optional memory card or each play will require the same setup.Unit comes w/ a proprietary 3 pair cable (Left/Right/Video). If you want SVideo (SCPH-100060 U) or component (Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr) audio/video (SCPH-100100 U) you'll need to purchase an additional cable. I did and I'm not impressed. Granted its better than composite video but not by much.[...].

I recently got a slim PS2. I had owned the standard PS2 system for a while before I eventually sold it and got this version, and this version offers tremendous improvements from its sleaker look and space convienence, to the ease of exchanging disks, to the built in online support. Now if you own the more clunky older version of PS2 and are fine with it I wouldn't put this slim version as a must have product, but unless you plan on picking up one of those new consoles soon (Wii, 360 or PS3) I would say it's something you should concider.To anyone who has never owned a PS2 and have at least a casual interest in video games this product is simply a must have, and what it comes down to beyond anything is games. There are over 1,000 games that have come out for the American audiance spacifically for the system, and it plays virtually all of the over 1,000 games that came out for the PS1. I hear there are certain PS1 games that don't work with the system, but I have tried numerous games out and haven't had a problem. (Be aware that you need a PS1 memory card to save PS1 games and a PS2 memory card to save PS2 games) In the end the game variety will satisfy any gamer no matter what their tastes.So bottom line owners of the original PS2 should concider an upgrade, but it's really a must have for those who have never owned a PS2 before. It offers something for anyone, unless by chance they just plain hate video games all together.

For all of you clueless adults out there: you must purchase a memory card or the kids can't save their games and have to start over from the very beginning, which can be tedious. My daughter played continuously for hours on end, sleepy-eyed even in the day or so following Christmas (before we purchased a memory card), simply because when she turned the game off, it would be lost forever. Save your children. Buy a memory card.

Wow ... I was amazed at the size of this console. It's about the size of a trade paperback book, and actually weighs less (1.3 lbs)... in other words it's very small. I purchased the $4.99 upright base from Amazon and I can hardly see this black PS2 across my room.The network adapter on the PS2 and network startup disk that is included, worked perfect and was very easy to follow. For me, I just purchased a 50' CAT-5 ethernet from Amazon ($11.50)and ran it along my baseboards from my DSL router to the PS2 and had things up and running in about 10 minutes.I am very pleased with this console's quality and functionality, the selection of PS2 games, and the nice selection of on-line games available. I would highly recommend this console and gaming system for those on a budget and anyone for that matter! Enjoy!

At first, like most, i thought this was the most wonderful thing since sliced bread. Then after VERY minimal use, and under 6 months time, i got that wonderful "DISC READ ERROR." After reading a ton on the forums, calling sony, talking to other places that sell them, this is very common for this console. Sony wants $45 (plus s/h) to mail your console in to repair it. It's so stupid that this console didn't hold up to very minimal use and sat around for under a half a year and is broken. i am saving up for the ps3 now because this stupid thing isn't worth the money to fix it when i could buy a new one today for $129.99. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH SONY!!! I want my chunky style back!!! It never had any problems and was under warranty from sony.

If you didn't read the exact dimensions of this product, when you receive it, the tiny size will amaze you. It's got all the goodies the old PS2 has + a built in network adapter. So it's online ready soon as you get it. Although the PS3 can play PS2 games, but it's better to save that expensive PS3 for Blue-Rays and PS3 games rather than burning it up on PS2 games. One scratched up rented game will kill you PS, that is how my old PS2 died.The only thing missing in this package is a wireless controller. The machine looks beautiful on your stereo rack, but with short controller wires coming out, you have to put it in between TV and you. Sony is already making wireless standard on PS3, why not put it to use here as well. Rather pay an extra $10 for the package and have the wireless controller included.

There has been a PS2 in my house since I can remember; the big bulky one that first came out. Well, when my sister moved out, she took it with her and while I would have loved to sprung and gotten a Playstation 3, it just wasn't in the budget. I grabbed up this one for the low price, and the cool silver color. The fact that it comes with the network card already in it, as well as the sensor for the remote, really is nice. The system runs MUCH quieter, and while I usually don't prefer the pop-open style cd area, I know that there were problems with the motors going out on the old PS2s. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase - yay for still being able to play my Final Fantasies and Guitar Hero!

My kids wanted a Wii this Christmas, but being the single mother of three makes it hard to splurge on the latest thing. I know PS2 has been out for some time now, but after seeing the huge selection of Anime games you can play on it, I was sold. And for $129, it can't be beat.

I'm probably the last person on planet earth to upgrade from the PS1 to the PS2, but now that they're down to a really reasonable price, I couldn't resist. And boy, am I glad I did! The gameplay is much more fast paced in the PS2 games. The PS1 was hampered by the directional pad, but with the analog sticks on the PS2 the characters can move around much quicker and with a much better sense of direction. And the selection of games is huge, I've only got two so far but I've got about 25 on my wishlist.This new slimline model is really small, not much larger than the DVD cases that the games come in. You need to buy a memory card or you won't be able to save your games. That's about it. I hooked mine up and it works fine, no problems with overheating (after 3 hours I can barely tell that it's above room temperature). No problems with noise, it's virtually silent.Overall, highly recommended for anyone who wants to have a lot of fun with a gigantic selection of games, but doesn't want to spend an absurd amount on a next-gen system that only has a tiny fraction as many games.

It is a unit for my daughter as a Christmas gift, per her feedback, she liked it a lot and has played the software guitar hero many times and will buy more games in the future.

My son loves the PS2. The slim design cuts down on wasted space plus all his original playstation games will play with this model. Amazon had the best price plus I love being able to track the status of my order on the website and appreciate the follow-up emails keeping me aware of the status. Thanks Amazon as always for making ordering on the internet a effortless experience.

My old PS2 died and I faced the dilemma of paying to fix it, replace it, or upgrade. The PS3 is still far too expensive, so I bit the bullet and bought this newer version of the PS2.This slim PS2 blows the old design away!The size is so much smaller and lighter. I keep looking at it and smiling.The discs no longer slide out of the front, but instead the the top pops open. Fewer mechanical things to go wrong with, and it works quite nicely.The addition of the network adapter as a standard feature is easily worth the price of buying this new console over fixing the old console and upgrading the adapter.Reaching behind the console to turn off the system is a thing of the past, as well. Easily turns off and on from the front now.Overall, from a design perspective, this is a vast improvement.

This was supposed to be a Christmas gift for my daughter. I ordered it a week before Christmas...with two day shipping...just in case. Needless to say, Amazon didn't deliver it until after Christmas...leaving my daughter very disappointed.I asked Amazon for an adjustment for the shipping costs (if not a discount for the entire product), and I received no response.I've had other problems in the past with Amazon, and rest assured, I will never use there services again.I recommend using one of the many useful merchants on Ebay...where customer service is a must for their survival. Amazon just doesn't care anymore.

This is my second PS2. I traded my first on in on a Xbox 360, which only lasted 91 days before it died (read all about it in my 360 review). Leary of version 1.0 PS3, I opted to go back to the PS2 and its proven reliability and copious games for less money. I got a set of HDTV cables, a wireless controller, and have not looked back. What a fool I was to fall for Microscams empty promises! This is the best game system! You can even play online for free! The games are more challenging and last a lot longer than the 360 games ,which I could beat in a week, playing an hour a day. The warranty is awesome at 1 year parts and labor! I am not worried,however, because I had my original PS2 for 10 years without issue before trade-in! A fantastic system at an unbeatable price! I will keep this one for at least a year before trading it in on a PS3 ,once all of the bugs are fixed and the price goes down to $400..........Until then, long live the PS2!!!!

Great price and the unit is really small.Only comes with Composite connectors, no Component or DVI must buy that extra (not really an issue unless your screen is larger than 37" and you sit less than 8' away).Comes with only 1 controller.Comes without a memory card - need to buy separately.On box picture the unit stands vertically, but the vertical stand is sold separately.

Amazon sends this through the mail, nothing like coming home to find a Playstation sitting outside on your stairs, at least the post office put it in a plastic bag as it was raining when they left it there.
