I purchased this drive a while back to replace my 1TB Western Digital Drive. This drive is MUCH faster than the 1TB and much quieter as well. I installed this in the third bay of my Mac Pro- installation was a snap. OS found the drive immediately and all I had to do was format it using OSX's Disk Utility (took less than 2 minutes).It appears Seagate and Western Digital are constantly fighting on price. However, I would say that I'll buy Seagate drives from now on- the quieter operation is much appreciated when you have three drives in a computer!No regrets- great harddrive.

In my opinion, this is among summer 2011's best-values in consumer tech purchases. I have elected to use this for my new Drobo unit, and it's great for the job. Simple, quiet, no problem installing. Probably the only detrimental factor at all is no literature in the box it came in. But, that's being somewhat picky. Kudos to Seagate for continuing to push the boundaries of affordable storage.

This isn't a detailed review, but the first drive that was shipped to me was dead on arrival. I have been buying Western Digital drives for years, and none of them have ever arrived in a non-functional state, so I will give this drive no better than 4 stars for that reason.The drive was making a beeping noise and the BIOS didn't recognize it. I was able to get Amazon to replace it, with minimal hassle, and the replacement drive works as expected, thanks Amazon!I am using this drive as a auxiliary backup of the data on our main computer, so I will only power it up every 3-4 months and I may update this review again a year from now.

I used this to replace my C: drive. Took a little time to back-up the files so I could load all of my data and programs on the new drive and then wipe the old drive. Once that was done I spanned the old drive to my old D: to double its' capacity. Solved my lack of free disk space on C: problem. Physically a very straightforward instellation in my Sony VAIO desktop. Drive is quiet and according to my system analyzer the speed is all I can handle on a Pentium D running 64 bit Windows 7. I would definitely recommend it to my family and friends.

Replaced four older Seagate 750GB drives in my NAS with four of these and have been very pleased. The biggest difference is how much cooler these run than the older drives - about 10C - and it's clearly noticeable from outside the enclosure. I haven't had any issues with noise, I have found these to be very quiet.

I needed more storage, of course. I use this for storing system images of my other computers, as well as the one in which it is installed. Using Clonezilla on a remote PC, I can back up that PC to my 2TB drive regularly and not have to worry about running out of room. It also stores all my genealogy records and images, photos I take on our various trips (lots of those), and images of the product CD's from purchases.

** update 2 **4 of 5 have now failed.Every couple of weeks a new one fails.I was hoping i received a bad initial batch from amazon. However, now the replacements have started to fail.I have had enough ... I am returning all of them.If I could give this zero stars I would.** update 1 **3 of 5 have now failed.-----------Purchased 5 of these (four at a time and one as a spare).So far 2 have failed (first failed within a day, the second failed @ two weeks).Thank god for amazon, simple returns, and RAID.

This drive is solid as a rock, the slower access time and spindle speed is NOT a liability. I recommend this drive for those who need the large capacity.

This drive worked well with minimal manipulation. The package only contained the drive (not sata or power cable). When the drive is not used it appears to go to sleep and it takes several seconds to make it active again but it is otherwise a sufficient drive for added storage applications.

My old hard drive was filled to capacity, so I had to upgrade. I decided on Seagate Barracuda Green based on the glowing reviews and great price.Windows did not recognize the drive right away. I had to go into the computer management screen to get it to work. I downloaded a driver from the manufacturer's website, because Vista Home Premium only formatted the disk to 54% and then it hanged for hours. I think it stopped. After the driver installed, I had no troubles.I had backed up my files from the old drive and then recovered them to this new drive. Everything works great -- and quiet, too. I don't even hear it spinning. I'm a happy camper.

I purchased four of these to replace four 500gb SATA 2 drives by the same manufacturer in a Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ machine. While I cannot attest to the new SATA 3 (6 gb/sec) speeds (the ReadyNAS is SATA 2), the new firmware from Netgear required me to do a factory reset on the device, and upon boot it recognized the new 4k format being used by this drive. After the drives were striped and the volume redundant, I was able to copy about a terabyte of data off my local machine in about 12 hours (with breaks in between).The new drives run cooler than the old 500's, are amazingly quiet, and fast-- so far I'm quite impressed with their performance (especially with the 64mb cache). While I haven't seen their long-term viability yet, I'm pleasantly surprised by how well they work.Bjorn3d has a good review of the drive here:[...]Recommended.

Великолепно

This drive is working great as my new larger OS drive. This drive was packaged well and that is what makes the greatest difference in hard drive purchases. If the drive is sloshing around in an over sized box and getting rough treatment by the delivery service usually means that is is going to fail. The heads on the drive mechanism are not designed to treated harshly. Thanks Amazon for the great packing!

I bought 4 of this for use in a Drobo backup device. These were what was recommended for use in the Drobo, and are sometimes packaged with it. I inserted 4 into the device, and just two weeks later, one died and had to be replaced. Needless to say, I bought a different brand the second time. We'll see how long the other three make it. Hoping the company will be willing to replace it under warranty. 2 weeks is ridiculous.

This is a great hard drive. I have had no issues with it...except it isn't plug and play. I had to google how to install it, but that didn't take too long and I felt like I accomplished something when I was done. Basically its a hard drive and I have had no issues with it. No crashes, no speed issues. From other reviews maybe I was lucky but it worked great for me!

I use 2 of these in my DroboS. My other 3 drives are Hitachi 2TB 7200RPM drives and they run crazy hot. The Seagate drives run very cool and quiet. They are great. Not problems so far. The price per GB is great. If you need a "green" drive these are nice.

5400 RPM internal HD used in a Synology RAID works fine. No complaints so far but only been using it for a short while. Not as fast as 7200 RPM but great price for extra storage.

I am a novice and this was my first installation of drive into an external enclosure. It installed easily in a Rosewill RX-358 enclosure (I do not recommend the Sabrent EC-UEIS7, as drive did not fit in easily because of the board that allows the Sabrent to service IDE drives as well as SATA- I did not call tech support) and works perfectly as a 2TB backup to my Synology ds111 network access storage drive (the Synology is great!). The Seagate drive is on the Synology compatability list and for $70, the Seagate is hard to beat. No complaints!

I purchased 4 of these for use in a QNAP NAS - 2 of the 4 have failed in less than one month. Bad blocks indicated by Seagate utility. Going to try to return all of them at this time.
