Bought 2 of these for my synology NAS 212 home set up. I've been using these drives nonstop for a few weeks now. More than adequate for my network applications. Great price for 2TB RAID 1 mirrored backup. No issues so far.I think the mistake some people make is buying these green drives and expect top dollar performance. These are very large very inexpensive drives. If you want top dollar performance you have to pay top dollar price.

I tried two Western Digital drives in a Sans Digital 4 drive tower. Neither one worked.Then I tried this drive. It has worked great!No problems with this drive.

Using it in an HTPC build. It's very fast, quiet, and runs cool! I record 4 HDTV programs at once and watch previously recorded program at the same time, no problem.

So got the hard drive, and in the past when I've bought hard drives they came with at least mounting screws or somthing. This came with nothing but the drive. So you will need the data cable and mounting screws to make it work. Other than that it seemed to go in fine and once formatted it seems to be working great. I'm using as a back up for my other 2 drives so it does not get a lot of use but have not had a problem. So good buy, but make sure you have the screws and cable or buy them too.

Almost a year of continuous use in a HTPC. I usually keep it about 3/4ths full. I have so much on it that I was going to buy another one to use as a back up but then the hard drive prices sky-rocketed. Now I am really relying on this thing to stay reliable. If it goes bad I will lose so much. Hopefully it will continue to perform, quietly, efficiently, and reliably!

Worst Drive I have ever used. Thought Seagate Drive is a quality and durable product. It took most of my updated data.Now I am afraid to buy any seagate product. 100% not recommended.

This hard drive arrived very quickly and was easy to install. It is twice as big as the hard drive that originally came with the computer so it gives me plenty of space.The one problem I have is that I keep getting a "This is not genuine Windows 7" message. I called Microsoft and told them that this was a replacement hard drive but they were not able to resolve this issue. They said that everything was fine. All I do now is delete the message whenever it pops up (daily).

I play Blu-Ray rips off of here seamlessly. My motherboard only supports SATA2 so I'm note even getting the full bandwidth available, but it's still more than enough.No problems during installation.For even a power user at home, these are great. Anyone who complains about green drives for their home PC is freaking out about nothing. In an enterprise setup, it might be a different story.

I use Synology NAS with 4 2TB in Raid-5. First died in 40 days - fortunately it was exchanged by Amazon. I ordered one more as a cold spare. Second died in 4 months. Spent $14 to ship it back and waiting for the replacement. Good luck I have the spare one.

These drives seem to be great. I put them in a RAID1 config in my NAS box (DNS-325) and the work great. Formatted to 1.8TB in NFS. Only using 50GB. Overkill, you do not know what tomorrow will bring.

This is the third of these disks I've purchased in as many months. Two are running in a QNAP NAS (raid 1-mirroring) and 1 is a second disk for largeimage files in a desktop PC. The double disks in the NAS both had dropped out when running as raid 0 (and many others have had problems with this) so I tried switching to raid 1 (mirroring) and even during big transfers they are now stable. The single secondary disk drive in the PC hasn't complained at all, albeit that setup has much less activity to and from the disk. Overall, if it's not being used in a true raid, these disk run on low wattage and give hugecapacity for the price.

First, it took forever to ship and just as I decided to cancel the order due to never-ending delay, it did ship. So after this I wasn't surprised that it came DOA, out of the box. Loud clicking noises and Win 7 sees it for only a few seconds, then fails. Many thanks indeed:(

The drive I got was only 1TB, not 2TB so I returned it. I tested it as a 1TB and it worked fine. It was quiet and worked. But, only 1TB.

I brought this drive and returned it, then I went and spent an extra $50 at BestBuy to get a WD 2TB Green drive. What a waste of time and money.I hope this steps will spare you from the same ordeal.1. Update your SATA controller drivers.2. Update your SATA controller drivers.3. Update your SATA controller drivers.Are you seeing a theme here. After 3 days of Google searching I discovered that the reason this drive and the WD drive I spent an extra $50 on would not format was that my Nvidia SATA controller drivers were out of date. I do not know if this applies to every problem that people are having with this drive and all the new drives but I would make this a rule of thumb: Put a new drive in update SATA drivers.And I wish Amazon would put this on every hard drive page.By the way I am running a HP a6530f Triple core AMD with Vista 64 bit on a Nvidia motherboard. I hope this helps and good luck.

If you're in the market for a harddrive manufactured by Seagate, as of Jan. 1, 2012 they are slashing the warranty period on their drives from 5 years to 1 year. Western Digital is doing the same. That will translate to: "If you buy one of our drives in the new year, don't come whining to us for a replacement drive when yours crashes and you lose all your precious data!"To think, America used to be the manufacturing colossus of the world, and now we are value-engineering our products into complete worthlessness.

Past Barracuda Green drives arrived and worked well. Looks like the new ones may be from a different factory. Made in China it says. Anyway, it arrived DOA. Amazon shipped a replacement out instantly. So be prepared.

This is the first hard drive that I ever needed software for in order to get the PC to put it into operation. I have purchased other hard drives and the listed capacity is usually less than the actual formatted capacity. With this product it was the opposite, less than the 2 Terabyte listed capacity.

Drive arrived and appeared OK for the first day until the clicking began, just ran SeaTools on it and it failed the DST. Fortunately it was in my Home Server with duplication turned on so I did not lose any data. Going to try a WD drive instead.

This was my first green drive purchase. It may be my last. I was attracted by the great price. Upon installation I created on partition of 600GB, then I attempted to create another partition with the remaining space. It would not complete the process, all the while giving bad sector errors. I tried several different sector size combinations with no avail. I finally RMAed it. To Amazon's credit, the replacement drive was on my door step 2 days later. The new drive acted the same as the first so I returned it, this time asking for a refund. I had begun to read other reviews of this product and some people were going through many drives before getting one that would work. I did not feel like going through that much effort to get a cheap drive that may work. I'll just save my money until I have enough for a "better" drive.

This drive is really easy to use. I have 3 of these drives installed with a i3 2100 for a self built Windows Home Server v1.WHS v1 is a good test for these drives as they are based on Server 2003, which doesn't support Advance Format. Nothing was needed to be done, the SmartAlign must have detected Server 2003 and switched automatically. No driver, no jumper, no align software was needed and it worked immediately.I have had the server up and running for about 3 weeks now and the drives are super quiet. Even with a fan on the CPU and a fan on the power supply, my WHS is barely noticable except for the blue light on my server case. You really cannot hear the drives spin and I have had backups running non stop since the server started working.I am thinking about getting 2 more of these drives and setting up Raid 5 for WHS 2011, as WHS 2011 doesn't support drive extender. What really won me over with these drives over the Western Digital ones is the built in SmartAlign FW that allows the drive to switch without jumpers/software/settings/etc. Out of the box and they are capable of Advance Format or the 512 older style functionality.Good work Seagate. You have restored my faith in your company.

I bought this drive for a home raid setup. It is currently inside a software raid (MDADM) on a Debian Linux OS. It has been working fine since I got it, SMART checks are done regularly, and the drive is performing perfectly.Since it is a Green drive, it is slower write speeds, but my home RAID setup is over PCI, so that was not a concern of mine. So far no issues with the drive and has been working perfect for 9+ months.

I purchased one of these and returned it. It arrived defective.Drive beeps and shows up as a ST_M13FQBL model with 3.85G of space.It can't power properly.I am leery of getting a replacement, so requested a refund.

I recently purchased a Netgear ReadyNAS device that had two ST2000DL003 drives preinstalled. One failed (SMART error) within 48 hours -- the fourth Seagate drive failure I've experienced in the last 5 months. I have a desktop with four drives in it and have experienced three Seagate drive failures since June. One failed drive was the drive that sent to me as a warranty replacement for a previous bad drive.I used to buy Seagate exclusively, now I exclude Seagate from consideration.

I bought it at 99 dollars. List price was much higher. Thanks Amazon ! GO SAINTS ! With the price of hard drives being so high, I was going to use a 250g I already had, with a NAS I ordered from Amazon. I was gonna wait on hard drive prices to fall. Next morning , I was checking on my order of the NAS. Amazon offered me this drive for 99 dollars. Go Amazon !

I got two of these drives to install in a RedyNAS Ultra 2 Plus that I also bought here on Amazon at the same time as this. Netgear/Amazon was running a $50 promotion if the drives were bought at the same time as the ReadyNAS.Great drives, whisper quiet, and both drives only use 24 watts of energy in the ReadyNAS.Highly recommend!

The drive worked fine until today it simply quit working. No warning. No SMART status. No nothing. It lasted 3.5 months -- just over the time to return it. Thankfully, I have a backup.

I love this HD. Just connect and forget about space problems. His 64mb buffer makes an excelent speed and is very silent. Go for it if you want to make a RAID or simply have space problems: with HD videos and games, you never have enough space ;)--------Amo ?ste disco r?gido. Solo lo conectas y te olvidas de los problemas de espacio. Su buffer de 64mb logran una excelente velocidad y es muy silencioso. Ve por ?l si quieres hacer un RAID o simplemente tiene problemas de espacio: con videos en alta definici?n y juegos, nunca tiene el espacio suficiente ;)

I want to know if the mainboard 870-G45 ([...]) endures a hard disk SATA 3 of 6GB/S to buy one. Otherwise I can onlyindicate whether this mainboard accommodates SATA 2 of 3GB/Sin the specification the mainboard says it works with SATA 2 (3GB/s) but does not clarify if it holds SATA 3 (6GB/s)

I bought this hard drive to use it as an USB external hard drive disk. By the way i also bought this enclosure (Macally G-S350SU Hi-Speed eSata/USB2.0 External Storage Enclosure for 3.5inch SATA HDD) which has an eSata port and this cable StarTech 6-Feet Shielded External eSATA Cable M/M (ESATA6). I love this HD, i live in Costa Rica and the same capacity hard drive is around the double price this is so for me it is very cheap.The only thing for you to take note: this HD is Green wich means that it conserves energy and do this by turning off it motor. So some times if you have like 5-10 minutes without reading-writing from the this it will stop spining its disk so when you need to read/write again you need to wait until the HD start the motor again. The wait its aboout 10 seconds wich isnothing but is important to you know this.In the normal use it is a really fast drive. I write files to it at 50 MB/s rate it's really fast. The other day I copy 10 Gb in about 3 minutes.

I have had this drive for 8 months and it still works fine.I use it for storing recorded TV shows and movies. It is NOT my OS drive.I bought this drive for its size and low price. Plus it was the GREEN version of a similar drive I was considering buying at the time.This drive has worked out for me so far, but I do not demand too much from it.

In my server, I have 6 2TB drives installed, in 3 sets of RAID 1 configuration. I wanted to replace 2 of the old drives with these ones.I purchased and installed and immediately noticed that on Power ON, it would take few seconds for my Server to reach POST screen, which is surprising. I have 850W power supply, and 2 video cards, but still have plenty of spare power capacity left.So I disconnected these 2 new drives, and guess what, system immediately comes to POST on power up.I did some research and found that this model drives draws more power on start up. Once started, they behave nicely, just the initial power ON current draw is higher than other drives. Long story short, I swapped the drives from my NAS enclosure to my server and installed these 2 drives in my NAS.PROS:1) whopping 64MB cache....!!!!2) Fast SATA 6Gb/s interface3) Sustained high data transfer rate, (recreating RAID was much faster on these drives)4) Light weight since it has only 3 platters5) Runs cool, even with sustained data in/out operation6) Quiet, even when transferring, reading/writing data7) CheapCONS:1) Higher start-up current draw2) 4K sector size, which may or may not be a problem for you, depending on your application, OS etc.3) Only 3 year warranty

I've always bought WD drives but I tried these Seagates because a friend told me that was what he got for his server. One of mine failed and when I mentioned it to him, he said 2 of the 3 he had gotten for his server had died also. So sorry I didn't get the WD's instead. Tried to return them but the window slammed before the failure (2 months). I've got WD's still running after 5 years and more. Shame on Seagate and double shame on Amazon!

I bought 2. Popped these into the ReadyNAS and they work great (its been a month so far).Quiet, speedy really don't even know they're there. They just run!I had to search to make sure they worked in my ReadtNAS Duo purchase, but that was ReadyNAS Mfg's fault.I got a compatability list after ReadyNAS purchase and luckily these HD's were on the listSo far so great!And... the price I paid was cheaper than anywhere I searched. Why buy anywhere else?Plus FREE shipping said 7-10 days.I got it in 3.Can't beat that!I recommend these HD's if you are setting up a RAID system.

Very happy with this purchase. The 6GB/s interface is just unbelievable. I transferred a 4GB disk image from my SSD and it was almost instantaneous. The drive is quiet and easy to set up.

I purchased 2 of these drives to go into a Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 4+. I was a little concerned about their low rotational speed with regards to the possible impact on performance however, once they were in use, my tests showed that the overall performance was excellent at least in terms of what was expected of 2 of these drives in a mirrored configuration in a server capacity.Power consumption is significantly lower than a conventional 7200 rpm drive and given that the ReadyNAS has to stay on 24/7 - the energy savings over the long term is a major benefit of these drives.

UPDATE 4/30/2012:NO PROBLEMS YETI may need a larger power supply (mATX 650-W, i5-2500K, MSI Twin-Frozr 560TI 1GB) now that I connected a BD+rw/DVD.still* an AMAZING DEAL! The warranty is 'only' 3 years on these if I recall corectly. COOL, QUIET, QUITE RAIDABLE large volume (with my config: 270MBs seq read in RAID0 of SATA-II) for all your really large file-keeping needsHad I known, I could have saved an arm and a leg buying more of these and no SSD.*These were priced at 80$; $ Rocketed up to around $200 following the Thailand flooding.

This is a huge drive. In fact, unless your motherboard is very new, this drive is the largest that you can boot from. Built up a cpu for home use but pressed it into service at the office after a lightning strike took out our unit there. In near daily service since (about 2 months) with not one problem. Stays cool enough, huge capacity and faster than 1 TB drive in older unit. Using it in a "silent" sub mini case, modded to add airflow and two quiet fans. This drive never indicates an abnormal temp rise even after hours of use. Good at what it does.While tests show that it is not the fastest drive out there (stay with SSD for that) it's price, speed, and size combination can't be beat. As usual, Amazon packaged it very well and it arrived quickly (about 1 week total). I'll buy more as needed. Recommended!

Sad to say this drive has bit the dust after 5 and a half months of minimal use. Most of my important files were backed up but I'm still missing data that I wished I had backed up else where. To add to the disappointment I have another one of these drives that is only 3 months old. My confidence is completely gone for Seagate products. Time to backup everything on it as well. I'm not sure what you'll be using this for but I would recommend spending $20 to $30 more to get a WD. I have about 6 to 7 TB's of data on external WD's that haven't failed for over 8 years and are still going strong(Knock on wood).

Make sure the the port used is active by checking on BIOS, else the computer will not see the new disk. A SATA cable was needed, the power cable was available in the computer already, as were the mounting slides and screws.To get into BIOS press F2 during boot up.Disk needed formatting. With Windows XP professional, a formatting wizzard starts automatically. Select default options.
