My drive installed fine on my computer but died afterwards. About 3 weeks after I bought I noticed my computer did not recognize it. I changed the jumper setting but still no luck.Too bad this happend since it looked like a nice product. Will never go back to buying a Seagate drive again.Be carefull when buying these drives.

this hd is great except for one thing, in the first week i tried to install the OS several times and it didn't let me, in the second week it installed flawlesly, no problems since.

These are great drives (performance and capacity) backed with a greater manufacturer and warranty. Have many of these, some workj 7/24, and perfectly happy with them. I keep coming back.

Just a little over 3 weeks old and it died. Seagate's poor overseas tech support, of no help, they offer to send a `refurbished' drive (a used one) to replace what I purchased NEW. Called Seagate Corporate, no help, selecting numbers to more automated script recorded voices. No option to get to a real person or a operator. Good bye Seagate, poor service, poor drive. Save you money. Run from this company.

This drive is a real beauty, it was meticulously packed and delivered to me in perfect condition. I find it to be whisper quiet and flawless. Anyone rating this drive poorly is either living in the land of Oz or drinking the Kool Aid. I would highly Recommend this drive to anyone.

While I believe this hard drive is an excellent product, the shipping practices are terrible. The drive was loose in the inner box, the fragile circuitry exposed to every bump. The drive did not work as a result, and I sent it back for a refund. I have since bought the same drive from a competitor for more, but it arrived safely, secured in the plastic bookends, and works quietly and quickly in my Mac Pro.

Just the bare bones. No cables, adapters, screws. However, it works well, and runs quiet in my Popcorn Hour Media Server. Price was right, too!

I bought two. Note the drives are OEM made in China. Received 12/2/2008. Put into service 12/4/2008. One died 12/9/2008. Sent back to Seagate on 12/16/2008. Enough said - you get what you pay for.

Well I just installed it and everything seems fine. Good price for an obscene amount of storage.One thing I didn't realize is that this is an OEM product -- that is it didn't come with any cables, mounting screws, or anything else but just the drive.This slowed me down some as I had to then go buy a power and data cable for the thing. But once I did that it installed easily enough and is working great.

Installed and configured without any issues. Be aware that this is NOT a retail version of the drive, just the bare drive. If you don't have SATA cables you will need to buy one as well.

I purchased two of these for use in a Drobo. One went bad in a week and now, a month later, I am still awaiting replacement from the vendor. I choose Seagate after a recent round of Western Digital failures, and the fact that Seagate has a major R&D center in my hometown. Sort of a support the "local" guy mentality. I hope I did not make a bad decision.

Although not purchased from Amazon, this drive was the perfect solution to consolidate my music and video libraries. Performance has been about the same compared with a smaller 320GB Maxtor HDD which is being replaced. The high marks were for the price. I will be looking at purchasing a few more of these drives and putting them into an external RAID 5 enclosure.

I installed two 1TB barracuda disks into it. Formatted them, and was able to copy over files in just about 30 minutes from opening it from the box.

The drive itself is not the problem but Amazon.com failed to ship it properly. The hard-drive was packed in a generic Amazon.com box with NOT enough protection. The box ONLY contained a bare hard-drive and no manuals, cables, screws, or software.I would not recommend buying any hard-drives from Amazon.com.

This is a OEM drive so that it all you get no screws or SATA cable so have them on hand. Also Register your drive Before you install you need the serial # off the drive to do so for your 5 year warranty. Good Value for the price per GB. Great Drive for back-ups

It's the classic price vs performance debate. How much do you value your data and at what cost should you protect it? Personally I think Seagate has an edge on the competition, it's prices are decent, whilst most importantly, the performance and build of the drives are stellar. It runs quiet, I was forced to strain to listen to hear it running. It actually ran all night backing up an entire archive and was only moderately warm. The 5 year warranty put's your mind at rest too should the unspeakable happen.

I installed this drive as a replacement for my 200GB Barracuda main drive.I used the Disc Wizard to clone the old drive. The cloning appeared to work fine, but later I found that my backup program crashed with a blue-screen-of-death - STOP: 0x00000019 (0x00000020, 0xe5acb398, 0xe5acb3b8, 0x0c040207).Later research showed the fix was easy [...].Since the fix I am very happy with the drive. It is about twice as fast as my previous drive and I have to run it with 1/2 speed jumper.
