Big and quiet. Five year warranty.Much faster than my drives from just 3 years ago (though this is true with most new model Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi, and Samsung drives).I buy most of my computer parts, CDs, DVDs, books, etc online.But I never buy OEM harddrives online. Every site with reviews has customers complaining about drives being DOA or, far worse, going dead two months later. And the reviews mention shoddy packaging.Hard drives are delicate, the retail boxes are specially designed to absorb shock.If you have a 1000 gig hard drive full of data, would you rathera) have it been bought in a specially designed retail box that was delivered to a store as part of a large palette?orb) had it wrapped in bubble wrap, placed in a small individual box, and thrown around in several shipping warehouses before you got it.

I purchased six of these drives. Five went into a QNAP T509 Pro, which I configured with RAID 6 and now have 2.7TB of usable storage that can survive two disk failures without loss of data. Disk number six went into an eSATA enclosure and provides offline backup of 1 TB of the QNAP for my most critical data.I read numerous reviews of the failure rates people are experiencing with modern high capacity SATA drives. To me, they all appear to have a similar failure rate, so don't be surprised when they die but rather plan for it, just as you expect a light bulb to eventually stop working.

I bought this drive for a new home built HTPC and file server. I loaded WinXP on the computer and the Seagate drive worked really well until today. Now, the computer will not boot beyond the BIOS's drive detect. So, it seems the controller is bad. The drive never was detected when the BIOS was set to AHCI whereas my two Seagate 750 GB drives are detected in AHCI mode. I am going to send it back to Seagate. I am not happy they want $20 to send me a new drive ASAP after only 20 days of use. It's a big job reloading many GBs of backup. They should pay me $20+. Looking at the distribution of reviews it doesn't look like this drive will come close to Seagate's claimed MTBF. Too many early failures!

Ужасно

I bought this drive seven months ago and not it won't boot. BIOS doesn't recognize it. I can hear it spinning but nothing else. What a waste!

I ordered these drives to be used with a Drobo and so far, they are working GREAT! I agree with some others, that they are a bit noisy in the Drobo cabinet, but its no big deal for me because everything is located in a Broadcast Data Center for the radio station I operate so noise is no big deal. I am using the drives to backup music files as well as an image of 3 computers on the network, and so far could not be happier. The drives were packaged ok, in that they had plastic ends supporting them in a cardboard box. I am planning on purchasing two more to fill my Drobo (which by the waay I love!) soon!JD from MoreOldies Radio[...]

This product failed for me after 5 months of light use in an external enclosure with the extremely common BSY problem. The BIOS won't recognize the hard disk at all.

Pros: Fast, lots of roomCons: More bad sectors that I liked, needs to be well cooled when transferring lots of data, noisy head seeks.I'm glad I check the drive for errors before trusting with my data. That way I got the bad sectors out of the way first so my data would be at less of a risk.If you plan on using this drive in a dock, you may need a fan to keep the drive cool.

Don't buy this hard drive. Seagate is not recognizing a problem with these drives and others that they are manufacturing. Many users, including myself, have had these hard drives fail within 4 months. Specifically, it's the hard drives with firmware version sd15 and from thailand. If you get brave and buy it anyways, then back up your data everytime you move something to it. It's not a matter of if... but when it fails!!! Don't say you weren't warned.

I've had this item for about a year now and it hasn't failed me. I run a diagnostic test about once a month and it has yet to find any disk errors. The speed is very good and the drive is quiet.

Stay well away from these drives. They have a major firmware bug that will set the drive to busy, and lock you out. No PC's BIOS will not be able to see the drive. You will lose your data and get a refurbed drive back from Seagate that may well do the same again.There are loads of stories about this all over the web, even on Seagate's own forums, but they deny there is a problem. I had one of these drive die in six weeks with no warning at all.

Bought this as a secondary drive for my games. Before I got this drive I only had a 320GB drive with on about 100GB left on it. Now I've got all my games installed and have a little under 900GB of space left over for whatever else I want to drop on there. Very happy with my purchase. Drive works great with no problems to speak of.

Received product within a week. Packaged very good! OEM, so no cables. Loaded in my Blackbird 002, formatted and loaded it up. No issues. I have been running this drive for about a month. It runs quiet and effienctly. Purchasing two more to add to my system. Running a Seagate 500 GB for system drive with a 500 for backup. Added the 1 TB to the system to load programs, files.... I will order two more of the 1 TB since I can hot swap up to five drives at a time.Great Product, No Issues!

I have always been a fan of Seagate products since they've never let me down, and this drive is no exception. I run this drive in an external hard drive enclosure and it has been absolutely perfect. It runs moderately warm, but that is to be expected. My only gripe is that when I leave the enclosure standing up, you can hear the spindle quite clearly. The noise goes away when you leave the enclosure on its side. Like others have said, beware that this is an OEM drive, meaning that when you buy it from Amazon, you only get the drive, no software or cables. You also need to format it on your own (not a problem for me because I always reformat any new hard drive I buy anyway.)

I purchased one drive , and it went bad in less than 2 days. I got the click of death, and the drive just stopped showing up in bios. I got a replacement drive that lasted about 2 weeks before i started getting clicks and delayed write failures. I could read from the drive but in the end i couldn't write data to it. It would just start clicking and then i couldn't do anything. I do allot of video editing so i had about 300GB on it when i lost it.

I am building a NAS device Netgear RNDP600E ReadyNAS Pro Poineer Edition Network Attached Storage (Black), so I needed four disks. The disks arrived in two shippments. I installed them, formatted them.. done.. just like it is supposed to work.

The Seagate 1TB Barracuda 7200.11 drive would normally be a good value but with the faulty firmware on these drives that can make them fail within three months, they become very risky bet. Until Seagate fixes the firmware problems, there are better choices for protecting your data.

I had this drive fail just outside of Amazon's 30 day return period. Seagate customer service has been non existent, never received a reply to my request for help. Seagate, you got me once, but never again!

Purchased 2 from Amazon, both failed within a few days of using. This may be a bad batch from China because it looks like failures on other posts were manufactured around the same time.One drive gave I/O errors the other just disappeared from the machine. Unfortunately they were both ROOT drives for my machines so I wasted a lot of time trying to recover.

Arrived in a box in another box held by typical drive black plastic end holders. OEM so no cable/screws or software. Downloaded Max Blaster 5 from Seagate site to clone original drive. Takes 3 hr to format thru windows XP drive management and 1 and a half hour to copy 200 G from old drive with Max Blaster. Had to change BIOS to see both drives to clone. Moved new drive to boot position. Completely disconnected old drive before first reboot on new drive.

Hello, I replaced the 750 in the HP m8430f due to the bad drivers that I loaded. Since I could only nuke the OS on the 750 I decided to RR the 750 with the 1000. I'm not sure what happened to 82gig on the drive but it is fairly quiet and fast and satisfying. You'll find all the quality your looking for in this drive. I'll update when I find the 82gig that went missing for what ever reason.UPDATE format the drive and get all you payed for. I always fan a hard drive if it needs it or not.Update 11/28 I can hear the HD working so my laptop is more quiet.

I have used these HDs in an external eSATA host appliance connected into my MAC Pro via an eSATA / PCI Express card. Used this way, the HD becomes essentially a removable, high capacity disk. The Seagate has given good speed performance and represents the most cost effective way of obtaining this facility.
