Did not occur to me to check first whether the Razer settings app (Synapse) would run on a Mac. It doesn't.
The camera technically works via plug-n-play but the focus, white balance, and other settings can end up funky by default, especially when I use it for Google Meet calls in Chrome. (seems to use the 720p 60fps mode by default, which looks grainy compared to the 1080p 30fps mode)
Fortunately I found a great open-source macOS app that can interface with the camera called "CameraController" -- if I open it and tweak settings I can get the video looking very good. But this app is not trivial to install if you're not familiar with installing open source software with homebrew on macOS.
So buyer beware, if you're buying for a Mac like me. But in 1080p 30fps mode with white balance and exposure set to auto, it's a great picture. If I had known, I might have bought the pro for full-HD at 60fps or something from another brand with a first-party macOS settings app.
And, like i said the aesthetics of things are really important to me but not sacrificing the quality. I think Razer did a great job with this webcam and i'm happy i was able to pick this up.
the Setup was excellent and with Windows10 you can change some of the minor settings through there without needing the Razer app. I think if you need to fine tune then you can take advantage of that, but i'm happy with the default setting right out from the box.
The lack of any provision for privacy at $89 in 2022 was the deal-breaker for me.
Additionally, the lens and resolution quality on the X aren't as good as on the Pro. Also, the Pro can be swiveled from left to right and its USB cable is detachable. At the usual $10 difference in price, you will lose money and quality if you choose the X.
One caveat: prices can change.
If you're looking at the Kiyo X right now (5.12.22), it's $20 cheaper than the Pro. Usually, the difference is $10. So if you *really want* lower-quality video at 1080p, a cable you can't remove, no left-to-right orientation and no accessories whatsoever, you can pay only slightly more by buying the X on Amazon and a 3D-printed lens cover on Etsy. I hope that helps you!
With the Pro, there's a firmware issue you can search for and read about. I found a way around that issue and will post my method in an Amazon review for that webcam.
