My husband spent more than 2 years transferring all our LPs to CDs. We were extremely distressed to learn that the CD player we had would not recognize the format of the CDs. We have been very happy with the quality and performance of the Onkyo we purchased. Shipment was amazingly fast (Thanks, Amazon). We had it in plenty of time for Christmas.

The random shuffle feature does not work. It stops to play CDs randomly and you have to manually restart to carry on playing. If you want to use the random play - DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. The help from the support center is so bad that you might as well toss this in the garbage. In any case, how much trouble do you want to go through with on a product that costs $130? So save yourself all the hassle and buy something that works.

My Onkyo only lasted about 18 months before dying(i.e not playing cds correctly). 18 months! sheesh!
The one best feature is that it plays mp3s.
It's drawbacks:
1. It takes about 20 seconds to power up before you can insert a cd.
2. The rewind/ fastforward ONLY works by using the REMOTE ,and not on the machine itself, and works poorly.
When this thing finally started dying, it would play 10 seconds of a cd, then skip to the next, play 10 seconds of THAT cd, move on,,etc
I was happier with my old Sony.
The one best feature is that it plays mp3s.

I bought this [new] from Amazon not quite 1 year ago and now it's dead. The sound quality seemed great (but then again I do have a 70's Marantz receiver and big JBL speakers), but now the on/off gets stuck on standby, then the tray won't open, and when I can finally try to play a CD, it starts skipping then stops playing. I even bought a CD-brush cleaner but the problem wasn't as simple as a little dust.
Why are stereo components nowadays made so crappy that you have to keep replacing them? Is everything made in China? Too bad they didn't make CD players back in the 70s when stereo electronics were made in the USA and Japan with QUALITY. I certainly can't recommend something that falls apart in less than a year.

Never heard of Onkyo before, but I am sold on this machine. It performs very well; the quality is there, the remote has only what the machine does, and what it does it does comsistently perfect, and quietly. My CDs never sounded better. Thank you, Onkyo!

This onkyo cd carousel player replaced an older one in my system. Matches other onkyo pieces, and sounds great. Cost of this item was less than repairing old piece.

Glad to have purchased this unit. I have an Onkyo 605 receiver and they work great together. Sound is terrific and we enjoy the 6 disk tray and the fact you can shuffle between the disks/songs for parties, etc. Would recommend this to anyone.

I bought this from crutchfield a few years back and havn't had one problem with it. I've read the reviews so I'm aware my luck could change, but it's still goin strong.

Recently bought this unit as an upgrade. I really prefer a multi-disc changer with a random function, versus a single disc player, as a way to mix up some favorite discs. The audio is simply excellent. I am hearing all the detail I would expect in a high-end single disc player. I note very little noise from the unit as the discs change, and silence through the speakers as this occurs. As others have mentioned, check the dimensions on this one relative to your cabinet, because it's a legit 17" x 17".

I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I purchased an optical cable and connected it my Onkyo receiver. I've even played MP3's recorded to CD-R on this unit. Was surprised to see the MP3 title info displayed on the screen. No complaints whatsoever. Using the Onkyo control system, whenever I turn on the CD player it automatically turns on my receiver and switches to the CD input. Also, if I turn off the receiver the CD player is turned off. Great system!

I was looking for a CD changer that was moderately priced but high quality. I've only had this for a month but so far but I think I found what I was looking for. I would definitely recommend this product.

I bought this item 6 months ago and doesn't work now. I have to cut the power to see if im lucky and play a CD when is reconnected. I dont have a near option for send it for service, so I prefer to buy another CD Changer, but of course another brand.

I did a lot of research and chose this player based on reviews from a lot of sources. The decider was that it had a coax digital out, and my receiver has a coax CD input available. (It also has optical digital and analog outputs.) The only thing to consider is size. Width and height are no issues, but this thing is deep. It wouldn't fit in my cabinet, so it sits on top. The ony drawback is that you have to start random play from the unit, not the remote. NBD, I would do it again.

I have had good experience with Onkyo refurbs in the past, so it was a shocker when the tray of this refurbished Onkyo DXC390 6 Disc CD Player would not open when first powered up no matter what steps I took and "Mech error" appeared on the display. Onkyo seemed to prefer that I return the player to Amazon for refund, but I chose to submit it for repair under their warranty to a service agent about 20 miles away.

But it still can fit on my TV stand. The height is a bit to long though.
I hooked up with Onkyo TX805 and it sounds amazing. Also it has good features as blue light on when the Cd is playing, random play, track selection and so on.
I bought this because my Philips DVD (Upscaling and Region free) has a major fault playing CDs which is it makes a small noise when playing CDS.
But this Onkyo CD changer can contains 6 CDs and sounds great so I am happy to have this.
After using it for a couple of months, it begins to avoid playing a lot of CDs.
Lense problem starts.

Beware of this product. Mine didn't work correctly out of the box; random wouldn't work at all and even sequential play would not always find tracks. After conversing with the manufacturer it was determined the unit was defective and to send it back at my cost, which was $50. I would not purchase this unit again. Too bad as the sound of the unit was very good, much better than I expected.

random play sometimes plays all discs, sometimes does not. I always clean my discs, but sometimes they skip on this player. I've owned a Pioneer cd player for 25 years and never have had a problem with it.. Not very pleased with the unit that I just purchased. Thanks

Onkyo DXC390 6 Disc CD Player
I just purchased this one. I needed a second CD player but did not have a lot of $ to do so. I installed this unit and it worked without pause.
It is a little noisy on tray opening and disc change but for the price its forgivable.

This unit is fine if you want to be able to have a dedicated CD player instead of using a DVD player. Like any Onkyo component, this is high quality and very sturdy construction. It sounds great and the "RI" link connects it to my Onkyo receiver so pressing play on the CD player automatically switches the receiver to CD input.
However there are a few annoyances that I have:
- "random" mode only applies to all discs in the changer, you can't have it just do "random" on the current disc playing
- as another reviewer noted, there is quite a lag between the time it takes to load the next disc and start playing.
- If you power off the unit or even just press stop, the next time you press play, it will start *at the beginning of the CD*, not where you just were.
Also as a result of being a 6 CD changer, it is a bit longer than your average stereo system component - so take a look at the dimensions and make sure that it will fit on your shelf.
That being said, I'm still glad I bought it. It's going to be producing high quality audio in my stereo system for quite some time...

So glad to find a receiver and amp that can drive my 50w Design Acoustics speakers again! For true stereo nothing beats it. Thought they were gone forever!

I only have one complaint about this unit: when I crank up the volume, it skips like crazy during moments of heavy bass. This makes the unit basically worthless, and I'm not just talking about for rock & roll: I just listened to Dvorak's 9th symphony, and it skipped on the louder tympani parts. I originally rated this unit 4 stars, and have now edited my review based on more bad experiences, but this stupid rating system won't let me edit the number of stars I gave it.
