I love Onkyo products.... They work and sound great and do everything that you could ask for.... Except this one. After a little over a year, I was noticing that the CD player would turn itself on. Soemtimes it would start playing the CD, others it would start and pause it. There were even times where I couldn't control anything. I did some online research and it seems that there are a good amount of consumers having issues with this CD player. It was great before the issues started, but for $200 I shouldn't have issues.

i took this out of the box after a room was remodeled,unfortunately, this was beyond the 30 day return window,,i am attempting to play new and nearly new cd's, all commercially made,,the player will pick up 2 out of six discs, i have tried this with different cd's , same results,,forget about shuffling,,,after the first disk is loaded,it plays one track, then it goes into an infinite shuffle mode, never finds another disk,i am not going to get stuck on a phone for hours trying to reach some customer service rep like other discouraged buyers, this will go back to amazon,and even if i get a $10 partial refund i will be happier than having this piece of junk taking up space. this should go to the local dump

I've had mine for three years and it plays just fine. No,it's by no means a high end player but gives good sound for the under $150.00 price range. If you want better sound for a small amount of cash then do this if your electronics savvy: Replace all the electrolytic capacitors(a less than 10 dollar investment) in the power supply from the 10,000 uf capacitor to 10 uf with Panasonic fc/fm, Rubycon zl series,Elna Silmic, and Nichicon Muse and touch up all the male plugs on the board with De oxit Pro Gold. It really smooths out the sound elevating it to another level and prolongs the life of the player getting rid of those cheap Chinese capacitors that will surely fail in short time.
The player can be a little slow and loud when changing disc,however,this is to be expected and sometimes can sound a bit harsh in the upper treble region.I was satisfied with it in stock form but I wanted to see and hear it's potential with upgraded capacitors. I'm happy to say I use it far more than my single disc $600.00 Cambridge player. I turn it on, set it to "random" mode and let it play for many hours all the time with absolutely no problems and I play nothing but my personal compilations on cd-r's.

After a few weeks now, I believe that this CD player is quite good. The sound quality is much better than my previous Sony DVD player that "expired." I had a single play Denon machine for over 20 years that was fine for its day, but the Onkyo is at least as good, and I am enjoying the 6 changer feature that I had previously thought to be unnecessary. I continue to hold my breath with regards to longevity, as I do with most products nowadays, though. (I continue to use my 40 year old Maytag drier, but have already repaired a 5 year old Kitchen Aid range three times!) Only time will tell.

After having enough of my JVC 200 disc changer's random skipping I decided that it was time to finally spend the cash and get something new and less aggravating. After a couple of weeks I am happy to report that this cd player has flawlessly played every single cd cd-r etc that I have played in it from start to finish without one single skip. Also the clarity is downright stunning as I am hearing things that I hadn't even heard before on the JVC. The remote is simple and quick to learn, and also I was stunned that the manual was in English only! I saw this listed on competitor sites for more money and once again found the best deal here on Amazon with free shipping to boot. Very pleased with this purchase and may look to more Onkyo products in the future.

It came really quick, was well packed & works wonderfully. It was a replacement for an older one & is missing the ability to rotate left or right, (only rotates the disc slots one way) but seems well worth the money. We use it daily.

Worked great when first connected to receiver / speakers. Then it just stopped working. Couldn't even remove my CD's that were inside. Amazon refunded my money, (minus shipping and restocking fees). I only had it for 5 months.

I've had this 6-disc player for about 2 months without incident. It replaced a Marantz 5-disc changer that completely failed one week beyond warranty. I run the coaxial digital out to a separate Emotiva DAC. I've had 4 or 5 different brands of changers over the last 20-25 years: they all failed eventually!
I purchased it thru Amazon Warehouse Deals, saving about 30 bucks. Onkyo only has a 1 year warranty on new players, so I figured it was worth saving the money.
As configured, I hear little difference between the Onkyo and the very pricey Marantz! Construction-wise, they are NOT the same in any way, however: different mechanism, layout, chips, and mainboard. I haven't tried the analog outs because the Emotiva DAC was far superior to the Marantz internal DAC; I presume the same would apply to the Onkyo internal DAC.
A good buy if purchased thru Warehouse Deals!

I would not purchase the Onkyo model DXC390 disc changer. I received mine last night and hooked it right up and it wont read not one cd. A complete waste of time, energy and money. I have had Onkyo products since 1980 and never have had a problem. Well, they wont get a second chance with me. I cant even give it one star because it doesnt work period.

I used my unit for about 2 years until the dreaded "Mechanical Error" display message appeared. It froze and that was it. I opened it up to retrieve my discs and could not find any obvious mechanical problem. It was sitting stationary for the entire time and was never moved from its original location. If you want long-lasting quality, try another brand.

I purchased this item new from Amazon in August of 2009 along with an Onkyo receiver. As an Onkyo fan with years of favorable experience having owned a high-end home theater receiver, I decided to get rid of my Kenwood 5-disc CD player (purchased in 1994) and upgrade to the Onkyo DXC390 6 disc CD player. I should have kept the 15-year old Kenwood.
Onkyo should be ashamed of themselves for selling something of such inferior quality. I doubt I used this CD player more than 10 times during the 2 year period I owned it and it stopped working. It is stuck in stand-by mode and though able to rest the unit from time to time using recommended methods, it simply doesn't respond to any commands. The monster cable power surge protector still works great along with the receiver but the CD player died.
This is a hit or miss product from Onkyo. You either get one that lasts a long time or in the case of what appears to be close to 50% of people who write reviews for this product - you get a complete lemon. And Onkyo sits back and does nothing about it time and time again. $195 down the drain (isn't worth the $135 they sell if for today).
For me it is simple - I'll never waste my money on an Onkyo item again (anything Onkyo including receivers).

I will have a review of the product forthwith, as soon as I get one that works..I have an Onkyo reciever and I am pleased as punch,but instead of getting the changer new,I opted for the Amazon "Warehouse Deals",so just sayin people,the "like new " product I was supposed to enjoy today just did not work..wouldn't recognize any discs,shuffled thru them and promptly said NO DISC in the display. Just ordered a new one,so I will be reviewing that product in a couple days. Just wanted to let people know about the warehouse crap-ola.

I finally got this real performance sound machine. I wanted a cd changer not too expensive, but a very acceptable cd changer, so I found a marantz cd changer whose cost was higher and this one.
At the end I decided for this Onkyo and I don't regret, It reproduces sound with a high fidelity, the balance between bass and treble is optimum. You can hear very clearly even the touch of the fingers on a guitar playing.

I've owned two of these models, and neither has lasted more than a couple of years. I won't make this mistake again. They seem prone to electronic glitches, refusal to read discs, faulty disc tray mechanism, and poor programming. My most recent failed model (bought in 2008) would frequently not recognize a disc that had been inserted and skip over it. If there were multiple discs in the tray on random play, sooner or later it would refuse to play some or all of the discs. Then this past month it began to turn itself on -- that's right, TURN ITSELF ON, with the display lighting up. I'd hit the power button to turn it back off and within the hour it'd be back on again. After a day or two of doing this it began to freeze up on discs, skip, and generally freak out, the display flashing random digits and messages the disc tray refusing to open, and generally refused to accept input from the control buttons. I finally pulled the plug to disconnect all the active input; plugged it back in after a resting spell, and then was able to force enough response to free my CDs. I'll shop more carefully for a replacement this time -- I'm finished with Onkyo.

Purchased this five CD Changer at Christmas as my previous CD Player (Sony) would no longer work as it was suppose to. This is an excellent product for the money and has many features the Sony CD Changer did not. Very satisfied with the Onkyo CD Changer.

I bought this player based on the reviews found on Amazon. It worked well for about 3 years and then just stopped playing CDs. Nothing happened to the unit and has been in the same spot for 3 years. It just up and died.

This is a quality CD player that we use at our baseball diamond to ploya 'in-between inning', 'pre-game, and 'post game' music on CDs.
I would recommend this product to anyone! I am completely satisfied with this CD player to anyone.

I have an Onkyo receiver that is older than dirt and it's still excellent. The Onkyo CD Player needs improvement on the random. The random isn't very random.

This is a very capable CD player for not much money. It's played every disc I've put in it except one, and none of my other CD players will play it, either. This player illuminates the CDs when the drawer is open to make it easier to read the labels and the disc position. Why doesn't every CD player do that? This is one of three Onkyo products I bought at the same time and every one is a winner!

Bought this unit from HH Gregg in May 2010. Had minor problems during the first year or so but they were tolerable. Last month it started turning on by itself and now it is completely inoperable. I was lucky to get my discs out of it as it will sometimes not turn on at all and none of the controls on the unit or the remote work. I called the local Onkyo Service Center and they advised that it is not worth repairing. So 18 months old and headed to the scrap heap. Do not buy this unit!
