When I heard that the wii was going to use motion in most of there games for the very first time, I was pretty overwhelmed. I first played this system at my friends house and was not very impressed. Maybe i shouldn't of thought of this but i was hoping for a system that would follow your bodie as a hole, not just a wii remote.
People made a big stink over how the wii was the best system out. Want to know why people buy it? It's because they THINK it's cheap. When you add up all the costs of the wii like a balance board and new remotes and nunchuks, it get's to be even more costly then the other systems if you really want to get right down to it.
Most people think that the wii is the best system out right now, I am one of the few who are not very impressed with it.

Living in Tokyo, you should now that space is very precious. So is your freetime after work (in general after 8-10 PM or on the weekends). I live with my wive, a 3 year old daughter the 70+ year old mother in law, etc... So that already gives you a good background on what facts I had to make a decision on. 3 generations in one household, so how did the Wii hold up against it ? You are about to find out...
During this summer I was slowly collecting ideas for the next generation game console.
The choice to make was basically either
- an Xbox 360
- the Wii or
- the PSP 3
I wanted something that doesnt cost an arm and a leg and doesnt get so warm that I can heat the room with it. I wanted something that the whole family can enjoy together and if possible with some sort of "activity".
So I went to Akihabara (Electric Town) in central Tokyo where all the good customer and game maniacs go queueing from the last night in front of the shop for the newest game ;-)
The Xbox was supposed to have the widest choice of games (at least outside of Japan), is not s expensive as the PSP3 but I remember from some time back that there was a heating issue with the first version, which didnt make me feel so comfortable.
The PSP3 has a superb graphic and is probably state of the art but somehow gave me the impression that mostly hardcore game-maniacs would use it on their 50 inch flat screen monitor or with a projector. Playing it on such a big screen is great but can make you real exhausted if you look at it for 2+ hours. Eventually virtual world and real world change their meaning. Playing it on a small screen wouldnt really justify the extra cost.
The Wii seemed to be the kind of console which doesnt take up half the room and heating it all up and spend a fortune on power consumption, so that was nice to see.
Wii also comes with games and accessorie which my 3 year old daughter can enjoy at least watching, while PSP3 and Xbox 360 have a strong focus towards violence intensive action games which I wouldnt want her to enjoy at least for now.
I also wanted to spend some quality time with my family again doing some fun games.
A friend of mine already had a Wii and was very enthusiastic about the way the "Wiimote" (The remote of Wii) is working. He enjoyed the simple fact that for many games you actually have to move your body.
So for me it became very quickly clear that the Wii is the best choice for us.
Game maniacs or hardcore action game lovers will want to choose the PSP3, or (if you dont have so much money) the Xbox360.
As I found it hard at the beginning to quickly find sometimes which kind of category / age / target users a game is focused towards I have created my own game lists here on Amazon on which I will also list up games that are not yet available outside of Japan.
Hopefully some readers will find it useful.
