This is my review on the Wii system.
Well let start off by saying I've been a gamer for 20 years & am impressed with this game system I enjoy it. I get to watch Nintendo Week on the Nintendo Channel I didn't know Nintendo had a tv show let alone a channel intil I got the Wii. I downloaded Christmas Clix for my first WiiWare game & am enjoyin it. As far as the virtual consoles go I like that part virtual consoles but I feel as though I wasted my money back then when I was younger buying all those game systems If I'd known Nintendo was going to turn them into virtual consoles then I would have never wated the money on them & just waited for the Wii to begin with. Anyway's my dad is happy I downloaded Donkey Kong 2 for SNES for my dad DK are his favorite types of games. Plus I've never played GameCube before so when I found out I could play that on my system too it was like wowww[...] I've never seen any game system do stuff like this before so for me it's just really wild. I got:
Wii Classic Controller
GameCube controller
GameCube memory card
to play on the wii & 6 extremely cheap GameCube games. Yay! I'll tell you one thing if you want to save money on the wii as far as games go. Here's what to do get:
Edge Card from GameStop for 15 bucks last all year long intil the next year then you have to pay to get it renewed saves 10% on all used games.
Sign up for GameStop e-mail newletter they put coupons in the newsletters.
Look for sales!
Wii Classic Controller (plays with all virtual console games)
GameCube controller (Only GameCube games found at the hard way it'd ONLY play GameCube & had to end up getting Wii Classic Controller for the Virtual games)
GameCube memory card
& get GameCube games (which are extremely cheap), Wii points cards, & rent Wii games for your local library for free for three weeks. That's what I'm doing.
Over all great system!
Happy Gaming everyone!

So, what does a Wii do and is it worth it?
Well, as you most likely know the Wii has taken motion sensor to the next level, meaning you can't play a Wii game sitting still. That's okay, playing Zelda there's a certain satisfaction in swinging your arm and hitting something on the screen, it's also hard after two or three hours of questing to keep feeling like doing it.
I have three made-for-Wii games, Zelda, Fit & Sports. So far I enjoy all three (I have Metroid on the way) but we have limited room, so it's not always easy to play.
Originally I wanted The Twilight Princess because I've been addicted to Zelda since the first game on the NES when I was in Jr. High School. I could have played on GC but I have a 42" Widescreen and playing the 4:3 Game Cube version just wasn't satisfying on the big screen.
I really like Twilight Princess, however, other than the Widescreen output I can't suggest the the Wii version is better than the GC, the graphics are only marginally clearer (I played the GC and Wii version on the Wii, which makes them both 16:9 and from 10 feet back they looked nearly identical.) Except, I actaully find the Wii version less challenging, swinging the controler is more responsive than button mashing, but you only swing it an inch or so, and it can wear on your arm over the hours most of us would play a game like this, even with breaks.
Wii Sports looks like Super Nintendo graphics, it's that bad. The games are marginally fun, but repetitive, it's like playing demos at a trade show. The kids like them, but they do not have long lasting interest.
Wii Fit is the real gem. The games are challenging, the graphics not much better than Wii Sports, but they are addicting challenges and after 30 - 40 minutes of really trying you get a decent stretch and resistance workout - but not hard and fast. It's a good tone and slowburn workout, it's engaging and it keeps you moving and balancing.
And that's the three main uses of the Wii, albeit the adventure game side is lacking, most of the available games are excersise, sports and childrens.
The graphics are only 480p, which is sad. The XBox 360 is not hi-def, but it does offer HD resolution output and HDMI on the high-end model. Having a PS3 for a year, the Wii is like a technology downstep. You can't compare the Wii graphics to games like Eternal Sonata or Uncharted. Plus, since I and many others now use an HDMI switch for all our Video/Audio, it's a pain to have to have the extra wires and switching. The only time I have to change the input on my TV is for the Wii, all my other componets are HDMI through my reciever.
The sound is not dolby surround, not 5.1! That's equivelant to a Laser Disk from 20 years ago, it's the same as the GC and you can only use analog RCA output, no otpical or coax.
The Wii comes with a composite video (1 yellow jack) that only supports 480i @ 4:3 aspect -- that's really bad! You have to but a component (EGB) cable seperate for $10 - $30 to get 480p 16:9, I was really made when I got home and realized I had not progresive output or widescreen.
There are pros:
The Wii outputs any progressive scan GC game in 16:9, so you have the Zeda Bonus disk? Play the first Zelda in Widescreen! I have to admit, Ocarena of Time & Windwaker never looked better! I tried every GC disk I have and they all played at 16:9 or 16:10 and looked and sounded better than the GC.
Also you can download games from Nintendo from all previous systems but GC, including Saturn and Turbo Graphics 16 for $5 to $15 and save them to an SD card. However, you can only put up to a 2 gig SD card in because it doesn't handle SDHC.
The next Wii will most likely be the one to buy. Hopefully, since it's unlikely Sony will licence Blu-Ray to Nintendo or Microsoft the next gen consoles will use Toshiba's HD-DVD for extra disk space and Wii-II will have 1080p output via HDMI with 5.1 LPCM sound -- like PS3 does already.
Sure, the price is better than PS3 @ $250, it's the same as low-end XBox 360, but the games available don't include Action-Adventure or RPG (you have a total of 5 titles in 2+ years in those catagories) but it gives your GC library a facelift, offers the Wii Fit (an extra $100) and will entertain the kids. But the graphics are 5 years dated, the sound mediocre and the controller doesn't even come with a rechargable battery!
All in all the Wii is one of a kind, but it's severly flawed and you have to ask yourself, what do I want it for and will I get real play and use from it. You also have to remember that an extra set of controllers will cost $60.
