I really like the DSIXL. It is a good way to break boardom of long waits...and has enough thinking games to keep it adult. The drawbacks are 1. Game selection is sometimes limited. 2. L and R buttons sometimes malfunction as the unit ages

My daughter sold her ipod touch because she got a iphone so she decided to use her money, shes 9, to buy her a xl. Yes I did have to put some with it but it seems to be worth it. She loves it and still has all her ipod games on her iphone now

Got this for my kid for Christmas. He loves it so I'm happy. You might want to read someone else's technical review of this but it does a great job of keeping the backseat quiet on long trips.

A little diffucult to setup the wi-fi connection .... this comes with just one security protocol (WEP) and if your router is not set up with it you will never connect to it...

I already had a DS Lite. I play a lot of games like Bejeweled Twist, Mah Jong Quest, Cake Mania, and seek and find type games. So all have very tiny things to look at. The tiles on Mah Jong Quest were so small on the DS Lite that I quit playing it because it hurt my eyes. Well let me tell you the DSiXL makes a huge difference. I have been playing Mah Jong like nobody's business. I can see the tiles clear as day and my eyes don't feel strained. So the bigger screen is totally worth it if you play these types of games. The color is awesome and the pictures are still really sharp looking.The internet browser is pretty cool. My husband is a tech guy so he hooked it up to our wireless right away. He did end up having to change our security key because the keyboard doesn't have a backslash or a pipe character. We called Nintendo support and they said our only option would be to change out those characters. Sucks, but our wireless code was ridiculous. I doubt anyone else would have a problem. Once he changed it all was good. The websites I checked looked great and was easy to access. Not sure how much I'll use it but it is still pretty cool.I really didn't think I would use the camera feature of the DSiXL. Once I snapped the first pic and tweaked it with tools I was hooked. It is really fun. The only problem I encountered was trying to take a picture of someone where the background was close in color to their skin tone (my white dad on a cream background). It kept saying "Take a photo of a face". It couldn't distinguish him from the wall. Annoying. I was able to save photos I took to an SD card and then I can put them on my computer and print them out. You can also post photos directly from the DSiXL to Facebook or Twitter if you are connected to the internet.The sound game(included) is fun too. You can record your voice and then alter it. The speakers are really good for this as well as games. Also, you can put music on an SD card and play it on the DS.Flipnote Studio (included) was OK. I probably need to play around with it more because I don't think I did it right.I really liked Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters. It comes preloaded along with Brain Age Express: Math. The Arts & Letters is cool because you use the camera and the mic in the Themes section. If you have played Brain Age games before then you will like this and if not then it is a good introduction.All in all upgrading to the DsiXL was well worth it. The screen size really did make a big difference with the type of games I play. The camera feature turned out to be a fun surprise and I think I'll use it a lot. If you are thinking about upgrading DO IT you will not be disappointed!Oh, I almost forgot about the weight and how it feels. When I held the DS Lite in one hand and the DSiXL in the other I really couldn't tell much of a difference in weight. When you put them side by side the thickness is equal. The XL is longer and little wider than the DS Lite but of course it would have to be. The XL has a textured bottom so it is made to sit on a surface while playing and it won't slide around. Holding either in my hand for a long time was uncomfortable so I always play with my knees bent and a pillow on my lap with the DS propped up on the pillow. So just find what works for you.The bigger pen stylus is really nice. I always got hand cramps from the smaller stylus. Too bad the bigger one doesn't fit in the back of the DSiXL, but I'll be buying a case for it anyway that it has a pen holder.Another thing I want to mention is that unlike the DS Lite you cannot play Gameboy Advance games as it does not have the slot for them. Not a problem for me but I know other people may still have some of these games.

My daughter's DS was secondhand from me, and my wife and I agreed that it's starting to die of old age and kid-fatigue. With her birthday coming up, I looked into the newer units and decided that the Nintendo 3DS was a bad idea: she logs hours on her DS, and Nintendo themselves don't recommend that children spend much time using the 3DS. Spending time with a 3DS myself, I ended up with a headache that reminded me of the bad old "Virtua Boy" days.This Pokemon Black bundle fit the bill: she wanted Pokemon Black more than anything, and this has got to be the coolest package a kid could get. The DSi is black with a really neat etching on the lid of two of the Pokemon new to the game. The unit comes with an extra stylus. The carrying case is just slightly bigger than the DSi and contains elastic slots for 6 games and the extra stylus, and of course it comes with a copy of Pokemon black, case, booklet and all. The DSi is different from the DS in that it does not have the older "Game Boy Advance" cartridge slot, it is slimmer and has a larger screen, and it adds a camera and a slot for SD memory so you can take pictures with it. There is also a browser included in the unit, but we have not played with the Wi-Fi and/or browser capabilities yet--that's what phones, tablets, and laptops are for. :)If you're a collector and you like keeping all your packaging, you should know that this product's container is very hard to open. Strong glue holds the box flaps down, and you'll need to completely open the top surface of the box all the way--inside it's got cardboard bands holding the DSi in place. We cut and ripped our way in, but I could see someone who liked to keep the box getting frustrated at how the glue disintegrates the cardboard.Beacuse this bundle is well-packaged, everything arrived from Amazon in perfect shape. The DSi charged within hours and was ready to play. There's a very thick booklet with detailed information on the DSi written in three languages, and of course you have a power adapter.If you're in the market for a new unit and you want to skip the 3DS, this bundle is a great deal for any Pokemon fan. The etched lid makes the unit look really neat and the entire bundle made my daughter feel very special on her birthday.

Pros:- Larger screen- 2 cameras- SD storage slot- Easy to navigate interface- Direct upload to Facebook- Brain Age ExpressCons:- No buttons for brightness control- Internet not as useful- DS store is a bit lackingI'm a long time owner of Nintendo handheld products since from the large clunky Game Boy from the 90s. But 2 years ago I broke that tradition and got myself a PSP. Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo games and the PSP has grown on me. The thing that kept me from getting a DS earlier was the price of games. It's always been Nintendo's standard not to come out with a cart that can be cheaper. They staved off selling CDs like everyone else for the longest time. But when the DSi came out I thought it would enhance an already growing catalog with online support and shopping for older carts much like the PS Store.The interface of the DSi XL is nice, easy to scroll through and to customize cart locations yourself. The Brain Age Express game that came with it was pretty nice too since because it's really a great learning game for people of any age. That was a good move on Nintendo's part. The cameras are pretty useful too. Some would question the need for two but it does make sense in that if you want to take photos it's not like the phone cameras where you can't see yourself before you take the shot. Also complimenting the internal memory is the SD slot, in which you can easily copy photos, and game settings. And you can upload directly to Facebook and other sites, which is also a nice addition.The Nintendo store is still in it's infancy stages as you need to purchase points to buy a lot of the games there. The internal memory storage is quite sufficient. Though I've never purchased any of the games they have available. Unfortunately, the games in the DS shop aren't the same you'd find in stores, which makes it a bit less attractive if they don't offer the DS's regular catalog or even classic GBA titles for sale. Hopefully, Nintendo will improve on this throughout the years.Internet is another fishy thing. I only visit 3-4 sites before the DS tells me I run out of memory. So right now the internet is out too. There are a few other drawing programs and a clock feature but other than that it's main thing you're going to use it for is gaming. And that is something the DSi XL is very good at. The main gripe I have about it is that I can't control things like the brightness or turn off the internet without resetting the DS and going into their on screen control panel. These things would have been easier if there were some on board button directly on the console. This is a great stepping stone. Once Nintendo works out it's kinks perhaps the next rendition will be an improvement to what has the potential to be a very powerful multimedia device.
