I'm not going to go into a long review on this model- the D7100. I have been taking pictures for over 50 years, and I will just say, for the price I paid, this is 1 of the finest Nikon's yet. Coming from my past, including D50, D90, D7000, the D7100 has made great improvements, and I have NO ISSUES with the D7100. Maybe some of these other guys who have given scathing reviews have gotten an off copy, or maybe it is simply a case of inability to know how to use the camera properly, who knows? Regardless, if you are looking for a SUPERIOR camera in the $1200 range, THIS IS IT! Buy it, most importantly, READ THE MANUAL, use a fast, highly-rated memory card, a high-quality lens, and don't look back! Everything about the D7100 screams quality- from the build quality, features, resolution, and most importantly, TACK-SHARP photo quality. I could go on an on about the D 7100, but it is best to just remark about what an awesome buy it is now for the $. All the others(manufacturers) are now playing catch-up with this Nikon release- Yes, others may say it can use this feature, and that do-dad, but we all know that will come in less than 2 years or so. For now this is 1 of the finest values in a DSLR!And NO, I DO NOT work for Nikon-

Ok this is just a brief review i previously own the D7000 which i got a year ago and i love the camera and decided to get the new D7100 mostly because of the new 51 point AF system which is awesome by the way it focus faster even on low light situations. I've been testing both cameras and the quality of the pictures are just about the same the only difference i notice is the D7000 creates much more chromatic aberration the D7100 doesn't seem to have that problem so if you were looking to get better quality images from this new D7100 i doubt this is the camera for you but if you are looking forward to get excellent AF results this is the camera for you It pretty much inherit the AF system from Nikon's D4 and the D800 which is awesome also the camera feels better in the hand it's more comfortable then the D7000, I also recommend getting the MB-D15 battery grip for this camera cause it's a little more power hungry than the D7000.Also if you are the type of person who's not looking forward to learn how to fully use the camera on Manual mode save some bucks and just go for a D5200 or D3200 you will only get the most out of this camera if you learn how to use it on Manual just saying cause i've read many reviews with people complaining about it.

Different cameras obviously but coming from the D90 to the D7100 proved to be such a significant improvement in many ways I felt compelled to add a 5 star for Nikon. I'm not going to write a long review because many have said what I know and feel about this camera so I'll save you the redundancy. I will say that I don't agree that this is not for the newbie to photography. If you have the money and you really want to invest some time learning the art I think this is probably the best choice. Excellent build quality, ISO performance, shutter speed, sharpness with the filter less sensor etc. Some of what turns many new photographers off is the inability to take great photos and camera with the capability of the 7100 helps a great deal. I will also say that lenses are the other half of the equation if not more than the body and I can also tell you that my 18-200 VRII and few other lenses never took images as good as on the D90 as on the D7100. So, I'm starting to ramble and I'll cut myself off here. I suggest thinking about what you really want to accomplish and what your budget is and if the 7100 fits then go for it.I ordered the camera at Amazon, really a great price: http://amzn.to/1ao0mFO

Since retireing, I've become once again interested in photography as a past time and a hobby and find the D7100 meets my needs. Compared to my older 35mm Canon SLRs, the D7100 is so much better, lighter and easier to handle. Images are sharp and beautiful.I've coupled this with Nikons grip for a vertical hold and additional battery. As well as several Nikon lenses. The 10-24mm wide. 35mm prime. 55-200mm tele. And an impulse purchase, the Nikon 85mm prime, just because it's a fine lens and I had to have it.At first, I bought some of the more expensive teles but soon realized I really wanted a lighter weight camera system and the 55-200 on the D7100 met my needs perfectly and was much less expensive. It's my feeling now that a good photo is more about my particular skill as a photographer and less about more expensive glass. The D7100 does require a learning curve, at least for me. But with this camera it really pays off. It's just a joy to use and grow my knowledge with as I try to improve my composition and framing of my shots.

So I am exposing it all right here! I am going to admit that I fall into the douchbag category as far as the professional photo world goes ;)But.... I became a pro overnight!I did the typical cheesy Dad thing. I know nothing about photography, I have no skill whatsoever in artistic vision, and I didn't even read the manual!I threw down an enormous amount of money and even had the camera shipped overnight. (all of $11 with amaz prime)I set the camera to auto - started clicking away - and.... Beautiful shots of my Daughter! In fact, The Best Ever!Honestly, I spent about $2500 on this camera and lens package + all of the garb. And I don't even know what they can do.Either way - Worth every cent!I am now enjoying beautiful pictures of my favorite subject, in a candid way. The quality of the photos by themselves are worthy of paying for, and the fact that it is natural and not staged is really the reason I threw down the cash in the first place. So well worth it !This one is a no-brainer. If you have the cash - the D7100 is the way to go.

I am a professional photographer. There were many considerations to take into mind when I made this purchase. Originally I truly wanted to purchase the D800. I opted for the 7100 due to budget issues. I had already purchased a nice piece of glass for this format so I decided to move forward with this purchase. I love my new camera. It's processor is awesome, the buttons and screen displays are awesome, and this is gonna sound super geeky but even the shutter sounds amazing. There are specs that every photographer must consider when purchasing a camera.I feel this camera is a great choice for anyone needing an upgrade. I love the two memory slots included as well. You can direct which files go to which memory card. I believe I made the right choice. Had I had more money to spend I would have purchased the D800 and a glass to complement it even more, yet with my budget in mind I could't be any happier with my purchase.

Comparing this camera to the D600, I have found that color rendition and sharpness are nearly identical. The D7100 is a little lighter (noticeably), and has some slight differences in the button arrangement on the back. For example, the D600 has a button dedicated to picture control (standard, vivid, etc.), while the D7100 has the "I" button (which takes an extra step to get to picture control). The D7100 has the very handy zoom feature on playback, which allows you to set the OK button to zoom into the focal point upon playback. I missed this feature on the D600 (which the D800 has too).So the sensor size does not seem to be a factor in color/sharpness, but it is definitely a factor in high ISO noise. A comparison at high ISOs shows a clear difference in the two cameras, with D600 looking much better. I see a very slight difference already at ISO 500.I didn't see any difference between the LCD screen quality indoors. The D7100 has some other nice advantages, like better focal coverage and higher flash sync speed, so it is difficult to decide which is the better camera. Sometimes the DX crop factor is useful (like for zooms), but other times the FX is useful (for wides, or if you don't want lenses like the great 85mm 1.8G to be to close). In short, two great cameras. The D600 is lacking some features, and the D7100 is lacking (compared to the D600) at high ISO. D7100 is a probably a better buy overall, but neither is the better camera for every user.

So, the exhaustively long reviews hit on all of Nikon's specs on this camera; I'd just like to comment on two features that were unexpected and greatly appreciated by yours, truly. First, when you set the camera to either A or S mode, you can go into custom functions and set the camera's other speed dial to adjust the ISO. This is a great feature because otherwise I've seen some folks lamenting the inability to more easily change the ISO. Brilliant! Second, when you are reviewing multiple photos and zooming in to the same region of each one to inspect one important detail, the camera will automatically zoom into that region of the photo on successive zooms. Very cool, and useful since the multi-toggle is a bit small and sensitive. Otherwise the only thing I will say about this camera, which in all other ways is quite a worthy tool, is that the weather-sealing is definitely NOT as good as on the D300. No way would I trust this in a storm, and my D300 weathered many. 4.5 stars, but I'm rounding down for Nikon's false assurance about the weather-sealing.

This is best DX camera out there. I upgraded from D90 and is a huge step up. I am not going to do a technical review as dpreview.com does a very good job. My primary lens is Nikon 17-55 2.8 and I can clearly make out the difference in pictures between D90 and D7100.I love the 'i' button because the settings can be changed using this button without going into the menus. If you are used to the menus in D90 it will take time to get used to the D7100 menus (they are rearranged). The grip and feel are solid. I miss the monitor cover so I bought Zagg screen protector and it works well.Even at 6400 ISO the pictures look great.Bottom line, if you are looking to upgrade from D90 this is the perfect camera. One word of advice skip the "WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter" which is not worth the money (see my review of WU-1a).

If you use the D7000 today, the D7100 is a very worthwhile upgrade to the D7000. You can take better pictures with the D7100 and it is much easier to control in the field. There are so many added little chances that just make the use of this camera a wonderful experience. One example is using the bracket function: Now you can to a 5 shot bracket exposure and you will see just what you are doing by the little count indicator you will see in live view on the monitor, no longer remembering what shot am I on now. You can also shot a 3 frame bracket shot if you want also. The DOF is also much easy to use than on the D7000. The D7100 is just a better camera and much easier to use, keep the D7000 as the back up camera. Given these two camera you are ready to take on the journey of taking much better picture, where ever to want to shot. I strongly recommend the purchase of this camera to anyone that wants to improve their pictures and the experience of taking pictures.

Currently using a Nikon D90. Just received my D7100 two days ago. The quibbles - files are so large when using maximum quality (RAW + JPEG) that it takes a long time to write from the card to the computer. Copying, editing, moving, even uploading files from camera using View NX2 or Nikon Transfer has become a long process even using Class 10 and SDXC cards. Now the other side. I thought I got really good pictures from the D90. The pictures from the D7100 are GREAT. The technology of removing the filter from the sensor not only makes the picture incredibly sharp, I have not had any issues with the moire all the reviews warn about as a possibility. In short the D7100 is a whole new world of photography. Setting up all of the defaults to your individual specifications and designating control functions to specific buttons takes a bit of time initially, but the results make it a great investment of time.Still getting accustomed to the all of the possibilities the camera provides. Combined with the new Nikkor 18-300 lens it is a relatively heavy assembly. Again, worth it in every respect. Nikon can rightly claim this as a flagship DX until they top it with something else in the future. Can't speak for professionals and really advanced enthusiasts, but for the rest of us. WOW !!!

After reading the reviews here, I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to the D7100. I am certainly glad I did. As many have previously commented, the pictures are tack sharp. The color renditions are very accurate, also. I would say to anyone still considering this camera just buy it. You will not regret it at all. Just be sure you take the time to setup the camera the way you prefer it before you rush out and start taking pictures. I upgraded from the D7000, which is a great camera in its own right. This one blows it away in all aspects from low light shots to portraits or landscapes and everything in between. It is a little bit lighter than the D7000 and it feels great in my hands. I have not used the video yet so I can't comment on that part. The 1.3x crop is more useful than I expected. It is wonderful for sports shots for the extra length it provides on your lenses. That means my 18-200mm lens is about equal to 390mm when zooming in. Again, the pictures in this mode are very good and this is where you can get 7 shots in burst mode. I noticed no lag time in the shots I took testing this feature, although I did only take about 40 shots while testing it out. Again, all I can say is "WoW!"

I'm not a professional. I moved up from D-70 to D90 to D-7100.I like the performance of the 7100. It produces wonderful images beyond my expectations in low light. BUT, On page 75 of the user manual, there is a call-out at the bottom that contains the following sentence: "The focus point for AF is selected automatically; manual focus selection is NOT available." This really bugs me. I like being able to manually adjust the focus point to get a light reading on the highlights to keep from blowing them out. The auto selection of focus point keeps jumping all around with each half-way press of the shutter button. So I'm left with having to move to the manual switch, take a light reading from a single point, set my exposure and then switch back to automatic and compose the shot. It's a bit of a drag and yesterday, I found myself taking my trusty D90 along and leaving the 7100 behind. Perhaps there is a better way, but right now, being new to the camera, I have not discovered it and find it a bit frustrating - hence the 4 stars. Were it not for the magnificent images it produces at 24mp, I would have given it a 3.

Bought myself one for Christmas, upgrading from a D5100. I love everything about it, with the exception of the limited buffer size, which effectively precludes shooting RAW continuously for more than about a second at a time before the buffer fills up and you wind up waiting for the card to catch up. That's the only thing that prevents me giving it a 5-star rating.

Upgraded from a stolen D5100, which I liked a lot.I love this camera and would have gave it 5 stars but after a few shots some spots appeared on my photos. I thought it was oil because I tried several times the cleaning function and nada. Then I bought and used a rocket air blaster and the spots disappeared, so finally it was dust and not oil.

I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of my D7100, hopeful that it would be OK without any of the focus or other issues etc. that the D7000 had and so far I am blown away. I have spent the last several days putting it through the paces and it has exceeded my expectations. The handling and ergonomics are superb. The pictures are sharp and the color excellent. It is solid, fits my hand well and the controls are intuitive and well laid out.The focus is right on, exposure is accurate, I still use exposure compensation but that's more a personnel preference in how I want my pictures to look. This camera has all the tools that any serious photographer needs and then some. If you have a passion for photography and want control of all aspects of your photography then this is the camera for you. If you are more of a point & shoot person then the D3200 or D5200 might serve you better. They both take super pictures. This is the last DSLR I will buy, as I am 70 years old, and I expect this camera to meet all my needs for years to come. My only other camera purchase will be the Fujifilm x100s for when I don't want the bulk or weight of a DSLR.
