Upgrading from a D7000 that I used for both stills and video, this body provided a lot of incremental fixes and improvements that have made life easier. Still quality is great, though not as much of an improvement over the D7000 as one might think... yes, pixel count is higher and the lack of an anti-aliasing filter does make the images strikingly crisp, but it may also be a tiny bit noisier at high ISO in low light (compared to the D7000). Nikon added a few video modes (like 1920x1080 30fps, as well as 60fps modes) but dropped 1280x720 30fps. Video overall is far easier to use... there are now record level meters visible on the LCD and you can adjust levels as you're recording. HDMI output resolution is adjustable, which has made the response time a little faster with the LILLIPUT 665GL-70NP/HO/Y/P field monitor when starting up or switching from record to playback... those delays haven't gone away completely but it's not as bad as it was with the D7000. There are a lot of other nice improvements, mostly small ones, which I won't get into here. I'd say that if this is a first camera or an upgrade from a cheaper body, you should definitely go for it... if it's an upgrade from the D7000 then you probably will want to weigh things more carefully... for me, the improvements were well worth it.

Originally I read all the positive reviews and thought this is a great camera. So I hurried and went to my local Costco and bought two D7100 cameras. One for myself the other for my brother. After we shot about 200 for his camera and 400 on my camera, we start noticing dusts on the sensor with F22 aperture on a clear sky. The dusts were translucent and appeared in formation on both cameras. So I tried to use the built-in sensor cleaning function and gotten no where. So I enabled the sensor cleaning mode and tried to blow the dust away with a camera blower and those dots remained for both cameras and still in a formation of about 10 to 12 dots. So I did more research online and there is quite a few people has the same issues just like the Nikon D600 was.. so the end I had to return both cameras back to Costco for refund. I was going to send in to Nikon for repair, but most people said the oil spots will return as the oil based lubricant will continue to splatter as you take more shots.So for those people haven't bought the camera yet, be warned about the oil on sensor issue. For those already purchased the camera, I would suggest you take a shot of the clear sky with Manual focus and F22 aperture. If you have Adobe photoshop you can also load the picture up and use auto contrast to see the oil spots more easily.

I bought this for my wife as a gift. She is still learning everything it can do, but is very happy with it. It takes very good quality pictures and video. She has taken over 1200 pictures with many of them taken while she was moving. I think over 95% of them have turned out great with only a few being fuzzy.

I upgraded from an 8 year old 6 mp good DSLR. this camera is everything I need paired with Nikon 18-300mm zoom lens and 10-24mm wide angle lens. Outstanding picture quality and excellent high ISO performance. Available user programmable modes allow for switching settings on the fly. For me this is an outstanding camera for me at a fairly reasonable price. Love this camera.

best images I have every seen from a DX format camera WOW. I have a D4 and a D300 and a D80 to be honest this camera shoots better than the D80 by 100x and the D300 hands down and has just about the same functionality. It is 1500-2k cheaper than my D4 but unless you are taking Fine art photography I do not think you could really tell the difference without a microscope. Best camera for the money I have ever owned

I've held out for a year, and if you count the time I've held out on the D7000, make it 3 years. Honestly, the money was the only reason an non-pro like myself would shy away from a stellar toy like this. Mainly I bought it for the larger body size, the lens selection, and the programmable menus. I have Nikon glass, and shoot things that move far away. This camera works well for that.There are a million reviews on the D7100. Just decide if the features it offers are what you are looking for.I still await a replacement for the D300s. This isn't it.

The camera came intact. I was a little scared because it was the first time when I bought a product from the used department, plus it was a big amount of money spent on this camera. But I am very satisfied with it. I play with it all day long. Is very sharp with many features as I was expected. It works very well.

I am very pleased with my Nikon D7100 purchase. This item replaces my D7000 camera, which was stolen. I find the camera easy to use and takes great shots of my kids while playing sports. I have been a long time Nikon fan and would recommend this camera.

The Nikon D7100 is the best DX camera ever released, and while that's a bold statement my time spent with the D7100 proves this.Many cameras like the D800 and the D4 have the ability to perform into 1.5x crop mode. The D800 will give you 15 megapixels out of 1.5x crop, where as the D4 will give you 12 megapixels at one 1.5x crop. The D7100 is already a 1.5x times crop and is 24 megapixels. Not only that but when you go into 1.3x crop mode on this camera it will give you an effective focal range of 1.9x crop.What this means is on a D800E if you have a 70-200mm lens your focal range would be 300mm at 15 megapixels, with the D4 you would have 300mm at 12.1 megapixels. With the D 7100 you would have 400mm at 16.2 megapixels. Just giving you much better detail for long reach and I have done numerous comparisons the D800E cannot compete with the D7100 when it comes to long reach and cropping.For the price this is unheard up, this camera outperforms it's price tag two times over. It has 51 autofocus points and believe me this thing is not shy to focus.I have compared this camera to the D600 which is almost double in price, and this D7100 focuses faster. I have so many good things to say about his camera that I cannot say anything.So I will just say that it is he best buy I made in years.I'm really happy with myself taking the decision to invest in this camera.I can do everything I want with this, but I think that the words that define this camera are: Quality, Professional and Freedom.I recommend it.

This is a perfect camera if you do not want to lug around a full frame $6000.00 camera! Fast shutter speeds. Semi lite. Images are so sharp you almost have to blur them slightly! The ISO is great up to about 1600 indoors. I was shooting a 50mm 1.8 so it is a fast lens with a fast camera. Awesome! One last thing. Have you ever pressed your shutter button and it seemed like forever for the camera to focus... Not with this bad boy. You press the button, the AF reaches out and grabs your subject so fast it seems almost impossible. Great Camera!

this is my fourth Nikon. just upgraded from a D7000 which is still have as my backup that i have a 50mm f/1.8 AF-S lens on. I have had this camera less then a month and have entered two photo contest. the first contest is a Juried contest i had two out of three photo excepted and my second contest was the county fair last weekend.. i won two first place ribbons and one second place ribbons all shot with this camera. the one photo i loved the most was the Fourth of July fireworks. I had the D7100 on a tripod with my 18 -300 mm lens set to manual focus, F11, ISO 100 and " Bulb " i used my wireless remote to control the shutter to eliminate any shake. every shot was time lapsed. i tried different times 6 seconds, 8 seconds, 12 seconds and a few at about 20 seconds. Every shot came out PERFECT, i won a first place blue ribbon with one of the ten second shots. i wish i could post one of them here just so you could see how these came out, the background is totally noise free just pure black. i had no problem with the D7000 this camera replaced. i just want a few more feature and the 24 megapx is a little bigger photo. This Nikon exceeds my expectations.

I'll admit I'm not a professional photographer, though I do take pictures for a community newspaper, so my pictures need to be fairly decent.When I purchased the 7100, I was going from a Nikon D50, so I can't compare the 7100 to a 7000. But compared to the D50, it's wonderful! The D50 I had constantly got dust on the sensor, even though I rarely changed lenses, and I had to clean it (scary!) several times. This one seems a lot more solid and doesn't have that problem. But what I love most is it takes great pictures in low-light situations. With the D50 I used an external flash, and, not being professional, I wound up with washed out pictures (until I learned to filter and control the flash a bit). This one is so great in low-light, I haven't had to use the external flash at all.I love love love that the ISO settings go up so high, which helps a lot in low light.Overall, this was a little pricier than I wanted to pay, but I am very pleased I spent the money.

I will be honest and give it 4 stars instead of 5 because I just got my camera on March 24th and I give it 4 stars for the test shots that I have made and getting to know how the camera works. I tested my kit lenses of 18-55mm and55-200mm. I am well pleased with the images and they are better than the Nikon D5100. I briefly got the chance to evaluate all photos in CS 5. When I took test shots on my 50mm f1.8, of course they were sharper. I will have to do some more testing tomorrow so I can post them. Since it is still winter (groundhog got it wrong) colors will look mundane so I will try my best for some decent shots.Auto focus extremely fast. It is one of the things I like about the camera. I took test shots of planes flying overhead and in standard auto focus, not the tracking auto focus, the camera tracked the airplane from a good distance and also on approach.If you own the Nikon D5100, the menu is similar and the camera is very easy to set up.As far as in other reviews where people have said they don't like where the buttons are set up, I cannot relate, but where the buttons are, just fine for me.One interesting thing that I liked about the camera is that is has an additional 1.3 crop which can be set up in the camera menu. This 1.3 crop actually zooms in on the subject/object without myself adjusting the lens. Would be great for sports and event photography which is what I want to get into.Camera is a good buy. Sometimes to make money, have to invest money. Camera is worth the investment. I will try to post images later. Cheers.

I simply love it. This is my second Nikon DSLR. My first being a D3100. I am an amateur but enjoying all the features of this camera. I couldn't get into all the details because well, I don't understand them yet. But what I can tell you is this camera takes amazing pictures and I am super excited to learn more and more about all the amazing features of this camera. It also arrived from the seller weeks before the date expected so that made my day. Good luck to all those that buy this awesome Camera.

What can you say about Nikon that is not already known to photographers that know its history.The only thing I can add is, the disk that comes with the camera is a meager 8, so, be prepared to spend another $100 for the 64 disk, or more if you want the 90.

I can't say enough good things about this camera, takes lovely shots, gives you the freedom to use the camera as designed and not a flaw that I can find. I love my Nikon D7100 and would do this purchase all over again.

This is my first DSLR camera. I figured if I was gonna get a good one I better get a REALLY good one. I have no regrets of any kind. This baby is flawless! I even got a few decent lenses. Some of the kits out there are really nice and have tons of attachments that are a bit harder to find on their own. I have taken a few shots of random things and a old Hindu temple with it and my lack of experience so far does not seem to show thru. The pix were gorgeous. If i figure out how to upload some on amazon I will >.<

Different cameras obviously but coming from the D90 to the D7100 proved to be such a significant improvement in many ways I felt compelled to add a 5 star for Nikon. I'm not going to write a long review because many have said what I know and feel about this camera so I'll save you the redundancy. I will say that I don't agree that this is not for the newbie to photography. If you have the money and you really want to invest some time learning the art I think this is probably the best choice. Excellent build quality, ISO performance, shutter speed, sharpness with the filter less sensor etc. Some of what turns many new photographers off is the inability to take great photos and camera with the capability of the 7100 helps a great deal. I will also say that lenses are the other half of the equation if not more than the body and I can also tell you that my 18-200 VRII and few other lenses never took images as good as on the D90 as on the D7100. So, I'm starting to ramble and I'll cut myself off here. I suggest thinking about what you really want to accomplish and what your budget is and if the 7100 fits then go for it.NOTE: Photo's do not show well on the Amazon site, actual images are much better. They must be compressed to save space. Also note that I made a mistake on one photo I listed the lens used as 18-200VRll and it is actually the 70-300VRll

I originally had a Nikon D200the body is smaller than the D200 but it still fits well in my handvery easy to use, and its ergonomicI did do alot of research before buying this camera and it fit my life style well.

Not quite a month in to owning this camera, have just shot my first wedding and found it to be a champ. Still love my D90, good to have old reliable around as a back up to this newer technology. Will report back after a few more outings.

It has so many characteristics! Great images, very good pics'quality. It only needs a little more of creativity for my photographies, ha!

I'm not going to go into a long review on this model- the D7100. I have been taking pictures for over 50 years, and I will just say, for the price I paid, this is 1 of the finest Nikon's yet. Coming from my past, including D50, D90, D7000, the D7100 has made great improvements, and I have NO ISSUES with the D7100. Maybe some of these other guys who have given scathing reviews have gotten an off copy, or maybe it is simply a case of inability to know how to use the camera properly, who knows? Regardless, if you are looking for a SUPERIOR camera in the $1200 range, THIS IS IT! Buy it, most importantly, READ THE MANUAL, use a fast, highly-rated memory card, a high-quality lens, and don't look back! Everything about the D7100 screams quality- from the build quality, features, resolution, and most importantly, TACK-SHARP photo quality. I could go on an on about the D 7100, but it is best to just remark about what an awesome buy it is now for the $. All the others(manufacturers) are now playing catch-up with this Nikon release- Yes, others may say it can use this feature, and that do-dad, but we all know that will come in less than 2 years or so. For now this is 1 of the finest values in a DSLR!And NO, I DO NOT work for Nikon-

This is and excellent camera, but I would not recommend it to someone who has never owned a DS before.
