Nikon sets the pricing (so you are not getting a special deal by purchasing it online). If you have a problem with the camera (as I do), you will need to go to your local Nikon rep & pay to have them ship it out to be fixed & then be without the camera for 6-8 weeks. The camera I purchased has a defect with the screen (manufacturer issue). I realized the problem after the 30 day window (6 weeks after I purchased it) & because it was purchased through a 3rd party on Amazon, Amazon cannot do anything to help. They told me to bring it to my local Nikon dealer.

I went to my local camera shop today and i took my super sharp rokinon 85mm and the $1500 dollar nikkor 17-55, i shot the D7000 and the D7100 with both my lenses, i also took two of my SD cards and installed one in each of the cameras, i set them both the same way, i have seen the photos on my monitor and i am sincerely NOT seeing any difference, plain and simple. Wheather this D7100 is used in RAW or jpeg the other cameras are just as good, less expensive and some are even sharper. I owned the D7000 for three years, which i sold not too long ago, so i also have THOUSANDS of photos taken from that camera. From all the fuss that's going around i thought the D7100 was WAY BETTER and i was almost ready to buy one.I really wonder how many people here are actually nikon sales people, honestly, and that to me is REALLY REALLY disturbing. If they are not marketting employees they sure are nikon fanboys. I like nikon but if i get to the point where i start telling lies or imagine that a camera is better when is not, now that would mean that there is something wrong with me. The AF of the D7100 is FANTASTIC for sure, but IQ i think people are just wanting to imagine things that are actually not true, specially when i see a recent review for the D7100 that says that the D7100 BLOWS the D7000 away. That's just plain RIDICULOUS. I have owned D200, D7000, Fuji S5 PRO and have used a D300 and own many nikon lenses and i would definitely see a big difference in IQ from the D7100 compared to most these cameras, but the D7100 is only a hair better in picture quality between the D7000, which right now you can buy the D7000 at a BARGAIN price. Now that i have finished my comment, all of you can start saying "well, did you buy the camera???" "Your review is pointless and useless and invalid since you did not buy the camera".

This is the first DSLR camera that I have ever owned and I love it!I take this camera with me everywhere I go!Great photos all around.Only issue that I have is the video recording, Doing stationary shots are EXCELLENT, but when I go to pan the camera I get a flickering that makes me look away. I've tried to shoot on the 1080p 60fps and 1080i 30fps and they do the same thing.Over-all this camera is a great buy for anyone who wants to get in to photography!

This Nikon D7100 has a ton of features. Having had a D200, D700, D7000 and now the D7100, it is really a great camera. I paired this with a Nikon 18-200 that I already had and a 16-85 and the images are sharp. I've shot football games, portraits, bugs, and landscapes. If this is your first DSLR it is probably more camera than you need unless you want to grow into it and are willing to learn about the functions. It will do everything you want it to do and more. The ergonomics are fantastic. It feels great in your hand, which is important for all day shooting. The body feels solid. There are two memory card slots which is great, because one can be a backup incase the images on your first card fails or it can be overflow or you can set it you be used for video. It is all up to you.I use the built in flash to trigger my external Nikon flash or when I just need some extra light and don't want to get my Nikon speed light out. Battery life is great. I can shoot a couple hours at a football game and only use 1/4 of the battery life. You won't be disappointed. After this camera, invest in some good glass.. that is my next purchase.

I am an old Nikon fan-bought my first 35mm F2 Photomic in Vietnam in the exchange 44 years ago. I taught photography to investigators years ago but have not picked up a SLR in many years, and we were still using film then. I found the whole concept of learning digital photography in my 60's to be intimidating but I needed to jump in to assist in startup of a private investigation business. This camera system has just about everything I will need to get started-I added an SB 700 speedlight and I am ready to go. The only thing I could suggest to make this better would be to include a couple of no color screw on lens filters to protect the lenses because you know that is going to be the first thing you are going to buy. The instructions are clear and easy to read and taking pictures with this camera is quite intuitive-I was shooting good photos within an hour and am impressed with the image quality. This is a good value for the price.

The Nikon D7100 marks my return to SLR cameras after many years with either a cell phone or compact digital camera. I purchased it barely in time or a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Madagascar and had no time to familiarize myself with it. The camera turned out easy to use on the automatic setting, and by the middle of the trip I had learned enough on the go to get some great shots of lemurs with some manual settings. The camera handled the sometimes rough trip very well. As other reviewers had noted, in dark conditions the camera at times had a slight delay, but compared to my small digital camera that delay is negligible. In addition, I was able to take some amazing landscape photos in the non-flash setting, despite the low lighting conditions. I can't wait to really learn about my camera now that I'm back from my trip.

I first bought the d3200, nope sent it back. Then got the d5200 and was quite surprised how much different that camera was compared to the 3200, I almost kept the d5200, but there was a couple things I was not happy with but could have lived with. So I returned the d5200, and preordered the d7100, had about a month wait, but well worth it. This camera is bigger than either one of the other two, which fits my hands much better, the ownerers manual is 3/4 of an inch thick compared to maybe an 1/8 inch thick on the d5200. The best thing I like is this model has two thumb wheels, one on the back of the camera right above where your thumb will naturally go, and one just below the shutter button where your index finger will naturally be, so you can use the back one to adjust shutter, and the front to set aperature, this makes it extremely easy to use in manual mode, so easy in fact I almost always shoot this way,. With the 5200 you only had one wheel on the back, so to adjust shutter you had to use the same wheel for adjusting aperature plus push another button to switch from aperature adjust to shutter adjust, all three cameras are completely different in many respects in my opinion, not just added features, the d7100 other than processing power really is a completely different camera, I love it, very Happy. I use this camera both commercially as well as just plain fun. I am so glad I opted to upgrade from the d5200, but if your a woman or fairly new to dslr's, you may find the d5200 a better fit for your hand and its lighter, These issues were not a concern for me and this camera fits my hand much better, and is definitly a more professional camera in every respect, their is a very good reason the owners manual is so thick! Love this camera.

This is my third d7100 that Amazon has replaced due to malfunction of the ISO setting. When pressing the ISO button on the back of the camera and rotating the main command dial, the ISO should change. In practice, the camera had to be turned off and back on before the change could be made. Then after taking a shot, if you wished to change the ISO again, the camera had to be turned off and back on again. This is the same error that happened with the second camera. I contacted Nikon on both occasions and went through their trouble shooting sequence and in both cases arrived at the conclusion that the camera had to be returned to Nikon for repair, at my expense. Well thank goodness for Amazon, after a long discussion they have replaced the camera again after offering either a replacement or refund. The camera takes beautiful pictures, but if you are in a situation, such as moving cloud shadows where the ISO needs to be changed frequently, it has a problem.

I was contemplating only giving 4 stars because its not a full frame camera but the images are superb!!! Is great in low light, which I like to shoot. Doesn't get any better than this for a DX (APS-C) camera. I love the dual SD card slots and its options on how you want to use them. It supports FX lenses, which I now own two. If you are going to buy this camera go for just the body, the kit lenses that come with it don't do the camera any justice. I suggest you add a few pennies and get a decent FX lens (yes you can use full frame lenses with the camera). So when you want to upgrade to full frame later, you'll already have full frame lenses. Ask anyone and they will tell you not to use the built in flash. I would say unless you want to be or you are a pro or strive to get great portraits, don't use the built in flash. But as an amateur, the flash works good, maybe a little better than good. But for those you want to get great shots, go get yourself and SB-910, they are just awesome, albeit a hefty price. I didn't buy this camera to use it's video capabilities and haven't tried it yet so I can't speak on video quality. Although I know there are issues with the camera when trying to use video in live view mode. I suggest you read "Professional" reviews of this camera for more details. But for price/performance and not being full frame, you won't find a better deal than this camera.

Had an older Nikon DSLR that had performed well for many years and decided to upgrade to the D7100 and can't say enough about the camera. If you are on the fence about whether or not to buy it jump of the fence and get it you won't be disappointed. The picture quality is phenomenal and it is easy to use for beginners and has all the functionality you need if you are looking to do some serious photography.

This is one awesome camera. I know there will be those that degrade the Nikon D7100, but my guess those people are not Nikon fans, or are people that want others to think they are professional photographers and/or believe they know what they are talking about. NO, this is not a high end professional camera and should be rated as such. Don't try to rate a Porsche using a Ferrari as a standard. This camera is a great camera and will give most amateur or semi-professionals potogs everything they would want. I've had it a little over a week and have just barely scratched the surface of it's potential.

I will have to admit to Amazon, I did NOT purchase this camera body through you. It was out of stock and my local camera shop had it, so... I have been learning and using it for about two weeks now and the controls are getting 'friendly' with me.Meaning: read the manual cover to cover with the camera in your lap. Preform the function as you read it in the manual, to get some sort of 'muscle-memory'. After a very short learning curve, the camera controls become intuitive. I have fairly large hands and this body fits like it was made for me. The weight/balance is perfect, as well.Growing into all this camera can accomplish will take years, no matter what the 'pros',(being a former film pro myself), say. I LOVE the DX format for some unknown reason, but that is fine with me ie; up-tick in magnification. Options, dynamics and versatility are just some of the 'pros' going for this body. I could go over the list of functions like some reviewers, but will leave you to do your own homework, if you are serious enough about purchasing the D7100. Yes, the price is up there, but you get: weather and dust seals, in body focusing motor, 1/8000 sec. shutter, larger LCD view screen along with Nikon's reputation, quality and service. Some are complaining the LCD view screen doesn't swing out, like the D5100/D5200. Don't want it, don't need it. I own the D5100 and I'm always afraid of breaking the screen off, so I keep it in the body all of the time, as it's rather 'spindly'. You'll want to purchase view screen protectors for the back and top LCD control screens. There were not any available when I bought it, so I purchased iPhone 4 protector screens. Cut one down for both screens. Very economical. If you want a camera body you can use and grow with for years & years to come...GET THIS ONE!

I've been a Nikon photographer since the 35mm days, and have owned several Nikon DX camera bodies, the last being the D7000. I enjoyed the upgrades offered by the D7000 and used it for 3+ years. I decided to continue with the DX format and purchased the new D7100. Fantastic is how I would best describe it. If you are a capable photographer, with some serious camera skills, and a DX lens investment,(8-16mm Sigma, Nikon 35mm, Nikon 50mm, Nikon 16-85mm, Rokinon 85mm, Nikon 55-200mm), the fine detail these lenses offer is obvious from the very first shots. You will enjoy what this camera offers.

I rented the D7100 and confirmed that the autofocus is better than the D7000. It definitely can focus positively in darker conditions, and and it handles very well in action conditions. The image quality is fantastic, but I didn't have it long enough to do a full evaluation against the D7000 for the little subtle things. One thing that I did notice was that the higher resolution is quite taxing on your SD cards. My 30MB/sec cards choked a lot sooner in continuous RAW shooting than on the D7000.Overall, I didn't see enough improvement for it to be worth it for me to spend the money to upgrade from D7000 to D7100. If I was buying new now then I think it would be worth it to spend the money on the D7100 over the D7000, but since I am not then I will continue to wait and see what comes out next.

having had a small string of nikon DSLRs starting with a D100, the chip, build quality and overall functions of this camera are at a point where i don't think i'll have much of a need for something better. i sold my D7000 for this one and it is indeed a significant upgrade in overall resolution. when buying the D7000, i had this voice saying: "i wish it were just a bit higher in resolution" and that voice was correct. i'm using with sigma lenses and my camera now likely out-resolves the best of the lenses (my 50/1.4), so some lens upgrades might be in the cards...note: skip the kit (or sell the lens) and get a better lens... the kit lens offered here is indeed sub-par, imho.

As a beginner when it comes to photography, I just wasn't happy with my Nikon D40. Sure, it was great starter one, but I felt it didn't have all the bells and whistles a camera should have. The Nikon D7100 is PERFECT. I'm still learning to use it, but even just messing around, the shots are great and family can't seem to stop commenting how sharp and nice the pictures look. Definitely a good investment.

Bells and whistles is an understatement for this baby. I love it. I am a photographer and wanted to upgrade my D5100 which I love and have taken some amazing pictures with.... I have my first shoot with this camera tomorrow and I can't wait. Its much heavier than the D5100 and the sample picture I took today are a richer creamer colour and crisp looking. The vibrant colour looks even more professional than that of the D5100. Love that it also has two slots for memory cards. Want to shoot video as well. This is going to bring me many more jobs. I am a recent Sony shooter and have owned the following Sony DSLRs:1. Sony A3302. Sony A3903. Sony A5504. Sony A580In reviewing the specs sheet for the new Nikon D7100, I became really excited. I decided to make the change and sold all of my Sony/Minolta gear and made the the switch to Nikon. On the first day of ownership, image# DSC 0001, I noticed that the focus was soft. I took a few more shots and noticed the same thing. I had previously purchased a 35mm 1.8G lens, and based on all of the great reviews related to the sharpness of this lens, I could not understand why I was getting soft images. My love for the D7100 led me to believe that it was a lens or settings issue, so I ordered another lens 55-300mm VR II, and attacked YouTube for settings that were suppose to help with focusing issues. After all of this, the camera was still providing soft images. After being very discouraged and questioning my decision to leave Sony for Nikon, I finally decided to exchange it for a different body. I am happy to report that focus is now tack sharp with both lenses that I own. This is a truly remarkable piece of engineering and is a major step up from what I previously owned. If you are on the fence about the D7100, make the leap and purchase. However, if you notice any problems with focus, do not hesitate to exchange it for a properly functioning body.Happy Shooting!!!

First of all I did not get my Unit from Amazon. When the shopkeeper handed me the Nikon D7100 body I made sure that I got the unit with clean sensor; I snapped my 35mm f1.8G (bought from Amazon)& took few shots of blue sky @ F22 & Lucky enough to have a good perfectly clean sensor, I will be responsible for any ingress of foriegn material to the sensor.Handling is pretty much similar to my former pet; my D7000, few controls were added but I get used to it in no time. Two things that I appreciate after 2 weeks of intermittent test:1. Adding lock on the Mode dial - prevents from accidental change in the setting.2. 51 Points AF system - Improved focusingI dont care much on the low buffer capacity as I am seldom shooting continuously, I havent tested yet the video capability because I am not a big fan of DSLR video with audible sound of lens auto focusing, maybe external mic will improve it, but for the time being I will let my son to take video with his iPhone.I am very plesed with image quality, color rendition and the sharpness although some factors are attributed to the lens, and of course to shooter. There is also significant improvement in Low Light shooting I can produce good acceptable image @ ISO 3200 cleaner than what the D7K is producing.I did not regret my decision to sell my D7K with kit lens and add small amount to have this body. Five star for me does not mean it is a perfect camera, I am satisfied with it as per my shoting requirements and style as advanced enthusiast. I dont mind the other shortcomings of this machine as long as it is not affecting me directly.
