I had high hopes for this headset, as I had perused the reviews and found both the price and quality to be suitable before purchasing. Upon receiving the product, I first found the USB to be much too snug. In fact, the USB plug made me slightly afraid to use the product, in fear of damaging my laptop.As for quality, the product sounds worse than a four dollar pair of Panasonic headphones that I have. On the bright side, the recording quality of the microphone is good.The headset feels flimsy and though I put a lot of wear and tear on this type of equipment, I didn't expect it to be quite this bad. I have to continually pop one "ear" of the headphones back into its holder. As I stated, I am rough on this kind of thing, but for a few days' usage, this thing has been exceptionally poor.My final complaint is that despite having a small head, both of my ears suffered pain both behind and inside from this headset.This was my first Microsoft headset and I won't purchase another. I would rate this one star if not for my own heavy use of equipment. I will give it two for simply working.

The headset works well enough for its price range, unless you're using Windows 7. On Windows 7, you have to download drivers for it. Upon installing the drivers, Windows 7 will still say the device was improperly installed, no matter if you unplugged it first then installed, or installed then rebooted, or any number of approaches I tried.Paradoxically, the device works well enough under Mac. I find this kind of driver negligence highly disappointing, since this is a Microsoft product, purchased for a Microsoft OS. This is the one scenario where I should not be running across compatibility issues (especially when they slap that Windows 7 compatibility logo right on the product page).Now I can only use this headset on my MacBook, not my Windows PC. Ironic?The headset works well enough when it does, so I will give it a star for that, but I give 0 stars for Microsoft's attention to detail for their drivers and devices. In stark counterpoint to this, if I buy almost any other third-party headset, they work right out of the box on Windows 7.Really, Balmer et al, I am less than impressed.

The Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 is a nice and inexpensive USB headset suitable for VoIP applications such as Skype. The only complaint I have regarding it is its mute button design. There are four buttons on the controller: volume up, volume down, mute, and Microsoft LifeChat. The last button is of no use unless you use the said service.Because the mute button can be so easily and inadvertently pressed, there will be many moments during your conversation that you accidentally touch the mute button without knowing and thus the other party won't be able to hear your voice. It happened to me very often that I decided to write a review here to warn potential buyers of this annoyance. If Microsoft had designed it as a side switch, it would be much harder to turn on or turn off mute by accident.

I bought these to use mostly for talking on Skype and for gaming with other people.I'm very satisfied with them. I am impressed with the quality of the sound when using them for gaming. Granted, my computer's speakers are pretty bad, so maybe these wouldn't be that great to an audiophile, but I am impressed by the nice sound. I picked up on bass tones I never heard before. I have no complaints with the microphone either, it seems to pick up on sound very well. In fact, I usually move the mic up above my nose because people complain that they can hear me breathing... and I don't think I'm a very loud breather (but perhaps I'm mistaken :P).I like that you can control the volume and mute the mic with the little button thingy on the cord. I have accidentally hit the mute button before though, so just be aware of that when you use them.

This is a great gaming headset for PC. It is a very durable headset that lasted me over 2 years with extreme drop abuse as well. The sound quality is amazing for any type of headset, let alone one for this price. The microphone is unexpectedly fantastic. The quality is clear as well as the volume being at a perfect level. I used this headset microphone for my YouTube videos and the quality was shockingly awesome. It does pick up the keyboard but that wasn't a problem for me. This headset is amazing, especially for the price. High-end gaming headsets can seem rather overrated, so if you want a great, inexpensive headset with great mic and sound quality, this headset is a must-buy!

As with other Microsoft labeled hardware you get more for the dollar when compared to Logitech and other big name brands. The sound quality is good. The microphone works clearly as well. The headphones don't completely swallow out the sounds of the outside world which is a positive for some and negative for others but what can you expect for $25.The short version is this. If you were trying to save a few dollars and get a no name product it may be a better deal to get one of these instead. The quality is higher then the equivalent Logitech's but don't expect the world for the price. Its your basic headset but works well at being that.

I bought this headset way back in January of 2011. I used it for my PC/PS3 gaming & General use. It's sound is pretty good; I can hear a lot more detail when I use them. The mic part itself is also pretty good. While talking with friends over Skype they'd say that there was no static and my voice was clear. This headset is also comfortable. However, your ears may get sore after a long period of time(5 hours+). It wasn't really great at stopping background noise, but it wasn't the worst either. I liked the mute button on the cord, I used this daily. If i had to talk to my family, I'd just mute it without having to leave my game or mute it on my computer.Overall I'd recommend this headset to casual gamers or for general use. Such as using skype and all that.Edit: I also forgot to add that this headset recently stopped working; or at least the mic part did. Still, I got 2 years of use out of it.

I got this Headset after reading all the raving reviews here, but was utterly disappointed. My main reason for the purchase was to utilize the USB port rather then the audio jacks. Although it served it purpose for the connectivity the Headset is too bulky and unconformable for my taste. Its made out of cheap bulky plastic that has a toy like feeling. I am used to using Sennheiser headsets that covers the ear completely, comfortable and quality in built. This Junk is completely opposite. Also, The Audio control pad is close to the earpiece and either dangles or tangles during the use.

Have had experience with 3 of these headsets. The sound quality + microphone quality meets expectations for the price. My favorite feature is the mute button and volume control attached to the headset. This is always an area I feel headsets fail miserably on and this one is the most useful + best placed. The problem, as other reviewers have pointed out is the headset's longevity. 2/3 failed within 6 months and the third failed in roughly a year.

The Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 Headset is an outstanding headset for under $25. Because so much is right, and there is nothing I could find that I don't like (I even like the fact that the cord is extra long) that I think the purchase is a 'no-brainer' (in the best sense). Controversial as Microsoft software may be, I generally have found their hardware (which is OEMed) to be first rate, and often best in class.

I bought these for a friend as a birthday gift. I've had a pair for several years and they've been really well used. Mine are still in great shape for all the use and abuse they've taken, which is why I chose them for my friend. She really likes them since she has no speakers for her computer. Now she can actually hear videos and songs I send her, not to mention using them for Skype!

The sound in and out of this headset is good for the money. Maybe even great for the money.But I'm a bald guy with a size 7 3/8's head (large hat size) and they don't sit well on the crown of my had.Also the ear pads are hard on the ears and after about 20-30 mins my ears start hurting.The other thing I would change on them is the controller which is about 1 foot down the cable from the headset. It's very bulky and gets caught on things, bangs around and makes thunking sounds in the headset as a result. I wish it were padded with some rubber to reduce the sound of impact and/or smaller and lighter.

I paid about twice what this retails for on amazon.com a few years back at a brick and mortar. I needed a headset for a mixed media graduate course I was taking that had a skype chat session. This was the best I could afford. I was pleasantly surprised with the sound quality, which is actually quite nice for music and gaming.The mic is fine too. The in-line mute feature is great for those work chats when you have a family member or dog in the background too. The cord is the right length. Over the ear headphones give some people headaches, but that has nothing to do with this particular model, just some people do not like any over the ear headphone. The headphones are reasonably comfortable though I've seen more comfortable designs in higher end over-the-ear. These headphones are also sturdy. They've been stepped on, tossed in frustration, dropped the USB cord's been yanked etc. The cups are not the flimsy thing on so many new models. The in-line volume control is also quite nice and placed at a reasonable point in the cord, not at chin level or 10 feet away.A+++++. I've tried some headsets since and this is still the best of what I've seen for a mic/headphones PC USB combo (at any price). A bargain at twice the price. Get two before they go out of stock.

. It's okay if your intention is to use it for chat only. I found the Microsoft LifeChat LX 3000 inadequate for listening to music, recording voice or gaming. It does not project a crisp or clear sound and leaves one imaginig they are .listening mono with stereo separation. I can say the headset hugs the ears with great comfort and satisfaction. That's if you intend to chat for a long time. Save your money!Carvel A Gray

I use these quite a lot listening to lectures and stuff while others are watching television. I am sure that they are not the highest in sound quality, both playback and recoding, but they are pretty good. Probably well above adequate for most uses. The downside is I don't like the way the rest on my ears. Now I am not saying that they are uncomfortable just no as comfortable as I would like.

I've been using the LX3000 as my VOIP/Music headset for nearly 2 years and, for the price, there's nothing that even comes close. After so much daily use, my headset started getting scratchy so it was time to replace. I ordered a new one online. In the interim I went to the store and purchased the Logitech h540. The bass was terrible and the sound quality was average (even though the hardware is touted as "Laser-Tuned") compared to the LX3000. I paid $49.99 for the Logitech headset.

I bought this item to replace a nice Logitech headset that I smashed in a fit of rage (you gamers know what I mean). It works perfectly with my PS3 and is notably louder than my old unit, both input and output. It seems to be good quality and well made, but the cord is a little short for my living room setup and preference. Overall I give this product a 5 because it does exactly what I wanted/needed it to do.

I am so incredibly angry right now.In the description it says it does have noise cancelling capabilities.Now I know, that noise cancelling might not take away all the noise, however I shut the door in my office and pounded on the wall to make the dogs bark while I used my computer to record me speaking.I could hear the dogs in the recording just as if I didn't have the headphones on.I really do not recommend these if you are looking for super noise cancelling capabilities.

My son has used this headset daily for at least a year. I was worried that the cord would break because it gets twisted over time and we straighten it now and then, but it's all held up really well. I like it so well that I bought a second one because it can't last forever.

I've used these for less than year and am now writing a review because they just broke.Pros: Sound is pretty good. Microphone is very good.Cons: The band across the head is uncomfortable and leaves gouges in my head. I don't have much hair so maybe others with some "natural" padding wont have as much of a problem there. Durability: These fell less than 3 feet on to a carpeted floor and one of the earpieces fell out and I no longer have sound in that ear. I'll try to take them apart to see if I can repair them otherwise it's into the trash.

This is surprisingly the most reliable headset I've ever owned. I've had it for 3 years now and it's still going strong. The only thing that hasn't held up is the flimsy covering on the earpiece, but the rest of the set is just fine.

I own a $150 set of Turtle Beach headphones, and I can easily say that they were a waste of money compared to this headset. The sound quality is amazing, and the microphone (the part that I really care about) is top notch! For $30 bucks this is probably one of the best deals I've ever seen, Microsoft could easily sell this for $80-$120. People are saying that this headset is "good if you just want to internet call..." but honestly, the mic on this is good even if you want to do things like podcasts and youtube commentaries. So please, buy this thing and save yourself the money of buying a $300 pair of headphones and a separate $100 studio microphone.

This is a decent quality headset. I'm by no means an audiophile, using this headset mainly for internet TV and some music, and it does the job great. I'm sure there are better quality headsets out there, but for the price, this one is great for those just needing the basics. I haven't been able to get the call button working, presumably because I don't use Skype or MSN messenger, however the volume buttons are responsive.Voice quality is good, and due to these being USB, there is barely any latency.They aren't very durable when being abused. My dog was able to snap my old pair in half just by stepping on them. If you are gentle to them, they will last you 2-3 years. I typically abuse my electronics, however manage to get 1-2 years out of each of these I own.

If you need something for talking to people (e.g. Skype), buy this one. It's a very good value, 5 stars for this.If you want something that is also good for listening to music, I don't think this is the one (OK, apparently this is something subjective). I would give 3 stars for that purpose, but my review is 5 stars because I didn't buy this for music listening.I needed something without echoing for chatting over the internet. I do lots of tele-conferencing for the job, and echo caused by anyone using the internal mic and the speaker of laptop or some dedicated telecon hardware is really annoying (we are always yelling "hey, if you're not speaking, mute your mic", but people always forget).I was quite satisfied with the purchase. It's inexpensive, I don't cause echo any more (though other people still do), is comfortable to wear, and the sound is perfectly good for chatting.For music, it's OK, I'll use it if I don't have anything else sitting around, but it has too much bass boost, or mid/high is too weak compared to the bass, or something like that. Music with any significant bass (e.g. rock) sounds dull. If you are listening to a soprano singer soloing or something, it's not as apparent, but still sounds muffled. I'm no audiophile but hey, if I wear a big-ish headphone for music, I want to enjoy the experience more.This works with both Mac (I'm using Macbook pro with OSX Snow Leopard) and Linux (I'm using Lenovo X61 with Kubuntu Linux 10.04).The volume and mute button work, but you need a minimal configuration, otherwise buttons control the internal speaker/mic, not the headset, both in OSX and Linux. In OSX, I needed to set this device as your sound output and input device from the system preference. Selecting it from inside each program, e.g. Skype, wouldn't do it. In Kubuntu, I needed to set this device as the master input and output channel from kmix.As soon as I unplug this, the sound falls back to the internal sound, so no trouble.The "talk" button doesn't work on Mac and Linux. Maybe you can make it work, I don't know, but I don't use it and didn't research.
