I installed this in a three year old Dell Dimension 9100 running Vista 32-bit Ultimate. It works great and the drivers installed automatically. My unofficial performance tests indicate that this card truly delivers gigabit transfer rates. I previously installed a TRENDnet Gigabit PCI Adapter in the same machine and I couldn't get the drivers to load properly. Considering the simplicity and minimal labor required to install this NIC, it was definitely worth a few extra bucks over the lower-cost brands.

I replaced my cheapie gigabit nics (Realtek chipset) with the Intel nics and the difference is like night and day under Linux. 50MB/s file transfers are now the norm. You can go cheapie on most other computer parts but don't do it with nics under Linux.

I recently upgraded my multi-computer, multi-platform system from 10/100 to 10/100/1000 and needed new ethernet card for all of my computers. I found on Amazon the Intel PWLA8391GT PRO/1000 GT PCI Network Adapter. I was happy because I know intel products usually work out-of-the-box for any os system. When I got the product I found not only the ethernet cards but driver cds in addition. I slipped each card into my computers and as I thought no problems. No need for the provided cds either, Windows Vista easily downloaded drivers and I was on the net in minutes. Also my Linux boxes had no problems with drivers. All machines where up an running without a hitch. Great product!

This is a must have if you have a giga network. The speed are phenomenal I honestly am happy with this I can finally stream HD/BD movies and move them across my network with in <15 min.. I choose Intel since I have trusted since it a good brand, even through expensive compared to others..The quality is great..

Straight forward installation. Used it to build an ESXi box. Purchased 4 pieces all worked flawlessly. Highly Recommended it for anyone who is looking for something that cheap, reliable and gives good performance.

This Intel NIC card works great under both Windows Vista 32 and 64-bit operating systems. I had purchased a NETGEAR network card prior to purchasing this and routinely ran into blue-screens and poor performance - this card performed significantly better. It's also priced attractively, so if you need a gigabit network card, then this is it.

I ordered this because I was having problem with my Verizon Fios internet connection. My computer is six years old but in great condition and runs fast. I have recently wiped it clean and reinstalled Windows XP Pro and it is a great computer, however, the internet connection was intermittent. I decided to try a new network card to see if that would fix the problem and it did. It was easy to install, simple to get running and I haven't had any internet problem since then. Great inexpensive item.

I got this NIC around the holidays because one of my desktop's onboard NIC was acting funny. So I purchased a few, and after I installed it into my desktops, it worked immediately. The computers are all dual boot workstations with Windows XP Pro and Kubuntu 7.04, and all computers worked with both OSs right away. However, I chose to install current drivers to get full access. It works well with my gigabit switch, where the limitation is due only to other computers with 10/100 NIC. Because I am used to comps with 10/100 cards, I see a significant difference in transfer rate between computers with this card installed!Pros: Great performance, ease of installation, supports a great variety of operating systems, support for Gigabit.Cons: Could be cheaper.

My old eMachines T1150 has no built-in NIC. Two cheap 10/100 NICs were not recognized by Solaris 10 x86 (actually, Solaris Nevada b69). I finally decide to buy the Intel PWLA8391GT PRO/1000 GT PCI NIC since I read it used the Solaris e1000g driver. Sure enough, it worked for me. My PC has a 1.3GHz Celeron, 384MB RAM, and two 40GB 5400 RPM disks, so the throughput on the NIC is probably limited by the hardware around it. Thought I'd pass this info along in case there are Solaris folks out there looking for compatible PCI NICs. I believe there's a PCIe version available too.

Intel Pro 1000 desktop adapters work with Linux straight out of the box. You plug it in the PCI card slot inside the computer case and it will automatically be recognized by the Linux Kernel on boot, and configured as eth0. On the downside, with Microsoft Windows XP you need to install drivers. I wasn't surprised when I had to change my router (switch) to be gigabit compatible, and all the other machines needed gigabit cards, which they all had already, to get a gigabit network. Gigabit is 1000 base T, or ten times the speed of 100 base T, the current world standard. Intel makes great equipment, and most of it works with Linux. I don't endorse any operating systems, as this is a personal preference. I only think people should know the truth.

I needed a network card for my Dell Dimension 4500 that works with Vista. The INTEL PRO 1000 GT PCI filled the requirement. Received the item promptly, and I physically installed it easily. I rebooted to Vista. The drivers installed automatically and I was off and surfing in Vista! I also still use Windows XP with the same fine results. I would recommend this card to anyone needing a newer card for Vista.

Intel ethernet adapters are top sellers for good reason. They work!Be aware - this particular model is for servers!!! it has a very short mounting plate and is not designed for pc's. Of course does make the Pro 1000 GT for PC's but this is not the one. I made it work for my pc because i am handy with sheet metal tools but be aware.Once the bracket was handled and the card was installed, it is flawless in performance and the network management tools that are downloadable from intel are fantastic.

I'm satisfied with the performance with this product. I went from transfer times of 15 to 20 mins to 6 to 8 mins on files of 3.5 gigs and higher.This card was installed on a ghz network, the machine is a p3 1.0 ghz & 1.0 gig ram - (I think that it's 800 fsb)the only down side is the software that came with the card. It adds a routine to your boot sequence which adds time to your boot. I don't mind because this is not my main system but it might be an annoyance if this is your primary system.Other than that this a worth while investment to increase transfer speeds.

I needed a Gigabit NIC card for our Windows 2003 Server and I ended up choosing this one. Great price for a great card. Installation was a snap. I installed the drivers first, then powered down the server and installed the card. After rebooting the server it found the drivers and went right to work. Been performing perfectly ever since. Thanks Intel for making another great network card.
