I bought a new YTH23V48 from Husqvarna dealer, Northern-Tools in Minnesota on October 2012. My previous riding mower from sears (costing about 1/2 as much) lasted for 11 years with just once requiring a belt change. The YTH23V48 had problems from day one - To start with Northern Tools (N-T) sold this to me based on a lie that the mower engine has been tested at factory and even after purchasing they were not allowing me to turn on the engine at store to make sure it was working. When I brought it home I found that there were gas and oil in engine, and when I contacted N-T they said actually they had tested the engine to make sure it was OK (another lie, see below) and then over time I found out out what a piece of junk I had purchased:

1) Day 1 - I could not start the engine, took me a while to find out that a tube to fuel pump was missing (the B&S engine on this mower does not have an electric fuel pump; but a cheap crap that easily breaks). I had to rent a trailer again to take the mower back to N-T store, where they told some other lies about why the fuel pump tube was missing without explaining how they could have tested the engine before I purchased it without it. They did not have the part at store but they used some other similar tube which allowed the fuel pump to work.

2) I got the mower back to home and used it for few times until one day it stopped working half way during mowing my yard. I checked and found that the N-T make s*** tube had partially melted. This time I rented a trailer to take it to a local service center and they fixed it correctly under warrantee by ordering the tube for the stupid fuel pump.

3) I got the mower back to home and used it for a while but then again one day it stopped in the middle of mowing, I found out that the fuel line (from Fuel tank) has been cut by one of the belts because it was not tied properly, most probably by careless assembly at Northern-Tools (I will never buy anything from them again). I tried to use a metal tube to bridge the broken line, but for some reason the Fuel pump was not working, so I had to rent a trailer and take to service center again. They told me tat for some reason the cutting of the line must have sent some debris to pump, so they ordered new (stupid) fuel pump and new fuel line.

4) I got the mower back home, but it did not even start w=even with new fuel line and pump. So I got it back to the service center and they found out that they had tied the line to hard and it was pinched closed at some point which they fixed.

5) I got the mower back and I could use it a few more times until I stored it for winter. I noticed some los of air from front tires when I was using it but next spring I found both tires out of air and deformed under weight of mower. I have been trying to fix the leak in the tires by changing the stem and cleaning the rim, nothing has worked and they lose air gradually so will not work for long time storage (basically very low quality parts either by Husqvarna or Northern-Tools), so I am planning to pay to install tubes in the tubeless front wheels.

6) And the latest breakdown happened last week when I used the mower for the first this spring to do the first mowing and cleaning, Well as expected the mower stopped working in the middle of mowing (the engine running but would not move when pedal is pushed). I found out that the transmission belt was off the pulley and there was no way of reattaching it without dropping the whole mowing deck. So I have to rent a trailer to take it to the service center.

7) I just want to add that this mower is little more than 1 year old and still under warranty and I have only used it for some spring and fall cleaning because I have my lawn mowed by a company during summer, yet I have seen more problem from this piece of expensive junk than in all the time that I owned and used my last supposedly lower quality Craftsman mower from sears. MY STRONG RECOMMENDATION IS NOT TO BUY from Husqverna or Northern-Tool unless you enjoy repairing broken tools.

Must Read- I moved this from the final days of my problem to here because of the nature of the issues and the positive reviews; I bought my mower from a box store and toward the end of dealing with a major problem I was reading the instruction book and saw something I had missed, it said and I quote "...If you have a problem with your Husqvarna mower take it to your friendly Sear store...". Why is this important? I did not buy it in a Sears store! Come to find out it was to have been their one of their flagship models but had so many issues it was picked up by other companies.

After mowing with the Husqvarna YTH21K46 I found the belt would come off. I spoke to the store then their customer service at 1-800 who told me that was because it was new and after the belts were broke in, it would quit . Didn't make much sense but they were adamant, however it continued and eventually I insisted it be fixed. First the authorized dealer said that type defect had to be addressed in the first 30 days therefore there was a $130.00 charge. Then they claimed it was because the mower was dirty. They were referring to a five minute demonstration given their representative when they picked up the mower. I am aware there is a design issue with the mower deck as when you use the mulch kit debris gets forced out the top of the deck into the belt area. I questioned both the box store and the service center on how you could mow the yard without it getting dirty? At that point it was returned to service and this time I was told it was because he deck was uneven and charged another $100.00. When I informed them the deck had been checked and had not been uneven, I was told by the box store I could not send the mower back again. The problem still exist. Then I saw were Husqvarna knew of the problem and had issued a factory notification. I sent that information to the service center and the box store corporate headquarters. Corporate informed me they had no control over the situation and it was up to Husqvarna; the service center stated they had knowledge of the defect and for me to supply them a copy. I complied but it did not help any.

Husqvarna has no idea of how to spell service when I contacted their customer service and tried to explain the mower deck had an engineering defect (when using the mulch kit all the grass is forced up into the belt drive assembly and no exaggeration you can almost get a bag full of clippings out of the housing) I was told they only took that type information from their service centers. Having spent a life time in dealing with similar situations I asked if they thought a company obtaining its income from repairing this issue (can't be repaired at our level) would report it killing the "golden goose"?

After a year screwing with issue, the box store sent it to yet "another" service center. Note: the original service center had had it four times for over 8 combined months; this facility had it a month and actually instructed to replace every part (records are available for your review) in the drive. They actually complained stating that made no sense as it would cost more than the original item. However they were instructed to comply. As I mentioned this was and is a known problem, I was told there were 882 +/- mowers currently with the same problem; the drive belt stretches and there is no means to tighten it, so the mower cannot move. It seems when installing a new one it too stretches and you have the same problem. The only fix and you'll love this is you assembly the belt on the mower, in other words you connected the two ends while it is on the unit. I laughed so hard I almost cried the last center who tried to be upfront and honest asked the Husqvarna representative on the phone "doesn't that violate the warranty"? "yes". They ended up authorizing it but the mower would barely move along.

Cut to still more issues between the box store and Husqvarna it took them three weeks to get the replacement authorized. I think this might be important to you, keep in mind this was under the manufactures warranty though I had purchased the extended warranty. This important because I was told I was lucky because I would had to been responsible for all the different pick-up and delivery charges ($1000+) as these are not covered. As I mentioned lucky for me I had purchased the extended warranty because no one mentioned that policy until the issue was over, I was lucky in more ways than one as if I had been hit with that after what they put me through you would not be reading this, Virginia jails do not have access to the computer.

I put this at the top and here, in the final days of my problem to here because of the nature of the issues and the positive reviews; I bought my mower from a box store and toward the end of dealing with a major problem I was reading the instruction book and saw something I had missed, it said and I q

I own a Husqvarna T435 top handle chainsaw and when it came out a few years ago it was a very good for the money. So when Husqvarna came out with a new pro model top handle saw I was wondering if it was worth almost twice the cost compared to the T435. Would it be twice the saw that the T435 was and better then the 338XP saw. So I saw some videos and read some reveiws, but at some point you just have to try it for yourself. So I checked Amazon and found a good deal and ordered it. I got a good price and fast shipping that Amazon is known for. Saw just arrived today and I opened the box to check it out. First of all it is slightly bigger by maybe a 7/8" in lenght over the T435 saw and a little more square shaped. It weights just a little more then 1/2 a pound heavier. It comes with a lot of accessories. Things like 3 different size hand grips, bucking spike, cold weather kit, tools, grease gun, and a added ring for clipping saw to your harness. Not bad for $600.oo , and after choosing grip size and mounting the techlite bar and chain, as well as the bucking spikes and ring. I filled it up with fuel and oil to test it out. The fill caps are awesome with flip up tabs to make it easy to grab and turn even with gloves. Started the saw and it ran a bit rough, but after warm up and revving it up it settled in. I have to autotune model that you will have to run and revv to allow it to self tune. Yes I am a old school mechanic that likes to adjust low and high speed screws on the carburetor, But this has none. It does work and self-tunes for the 3000 ft. elevation where I live. I did some cutting and just getting to know the feel of the saw. All I can say is wow, the saw is pricey but worth every penny. The response is very fast when you rev it, and the balance and feel is wonderful. Vibration is minimal on your hands and with the 3 sizes of grips to choose from the saw is very comfortable. Other nice features are the felling guide marks on the engine covers and the quick access cover for the air cleaner/ carburetor area. Fuel tank has a sight glass to show you if fuel is low and adjustable oil pump is another nice feature. The added ring for hanging the saw from your harness is a plastic ring and I guess it's ok but a metal one would be better to me. I would recommend this saw to anyone who knows the value of good tools, and appreciates tools that make the work easier and faster. The T435 is about $350.oo and the T540xp Amazon price is about $600.oo. I now love this saw more than the 338XP.

Personally I would give this mower a four star rating only because the Hydrostatic transmission is LEVER controlled. I am use to and would prefer PEDAL control. But to rate the unit for what it is, it is a really great mower. I previously owned a John Deere L110 and I was really disappointed in the quality of it. The transmission broke after only 133 hours of slight use.

WARNING: Be sure to have your current phone number listed in your Amazon account because the delivery company will NOT deliver until they contact you. Since I did not know this the delivery was delayed two days!

Anyway, the mower arrived packed very well. I did notice the left plastic vent grille on the hood was broken because it was installed incorrectly. I called the local Husqvarna dealer and they wouldn't do anything until I brought the mower into them to repair. I told them I didn't have a way to transport it and they wanted $75 to come and get it. So I then contacted Amazon Customer Care, told them about the problem and the number of the part number needed, and they contacted Husqvarna and they are sending the part to me at no cost.

Now back to the review... the packing is VERY sturdy. It comes in a wooden crate on a pallet. You'll need a crowbar or something similar to pry the BIG staples out of the wood. It would be advisable to have someone help you do this. My wife helped me.

I checked the oil level and gave the mower a general inspection. I then started the Briggs & Stratton 20HP engine and it started IMMEDIATELY. I've never seen an engine start so fast. I was impressed. The 17.5 HP Kohler engine on my JD L110 always had to crank and crank before it started.

The battery is located under the seat. The 2.5 gallon gas tank is under the hood, close to the steering wheel and instrument console. There is NO engine clock timer. Too bad, but I can live without it.

The REAL NICE thing is this, there is a position on the ignition switch that you can use that allows you to go in reverse WITH the blades engaged. If you choose not to use this position, the engine will die if you try to go backwards. On the John Deere L110 they have a "button" you have to push to be able to back up. (I bypassed this switch with a piece of wire). So I am LOVING the Husqvarna solution to this. NOTE: there is a switch/sensor in the seat so that if you just barely move the engine will start to die.

Using a LEVER to adjust your speed takes a little bit of getting used to. I would prefer using a pedal but to be honest, after using the mower the first time, I almost "prefer" the lever. I noticed that my foot wasn't tired like it was using the John Deere. It also seems to turn very easy.

Oh yeah! The Husky has a LOT MORE power and speed than the John Deere.

I did purchase the OPTIONAL mulching kit and installed it. It took about 10 minutes. All you do is raise the mowing deck all the way up so you can get to the blades. Be careful not to cut yourself on the sharp blades. Just remove the bolts holding the blades on and replace them with the new mulching ones. Then there is a plastic guard that covers the discharge hole. It is held on with two 2" bungee cords with hooks on their ends. It's real easy to install.

You also get two keys, an attachment that connects a garden hose to the mowing deck so you can wash the underside. You get a manual detailing the Briggs & Stratton engine, a manual detailing EVERY part of your mower, and a user's manual.

So in the end, I am really impressed with this mower. Overall, it is a lot better than a Deere.

This product was delivered sooner than expected, about 4 days. It was packaged well but not in a husqvarna box, but simply a brown box with no labels. The plastic insert is made by a third party and the blades are high quality Oregon brand, made in USA mulch blades that require an initial sharpening. The blades are coated with a thick hardy black paint which comes off with a hand grinder. The discharge cover is plastic and was engineered "ok". It is held onto the deck by 2 thick rubber bands and hooks and attaches to the cover with supplied hardware (2 each nut plates, screw, large washer and small lock washer). The bands stretch and hook onto the deck by pre installed spring hooks that are pretty beefy. There is a notch cut out on top of the block off plate that installs over the outter lip of the discharge chute bracket. The instructions direct the user to leave the discharge chute attached, but the entire purpose of my purchasing this attachment was so that I could remove the bulky discharge chute which I did anyways. My guess to why they want you the leave the chute attached is to strengthen the security of the block off plate and possibly avoid a lawsuit if some debris was to dislodge the block off plate and cause an injury. Even without the stock chute attached the plate is fairly secured under tension from the retaining bands. A better engineering approach would be to utilize the existing deck armor plate hardware as a means to secure the block off plate instead of simply forming the plate around the existing deck hardware.

Initial use of the mulch kit exceeded expectations. The block off plate held firmly
Intact and only allowed a small amount of debris past the seam. It is apparent however, that the limiting factor of this mulch kit is the thick rubber band attachment fitting. I think it will last about 2 seasons under normal use. I mow a 1 acre yard once a week, we have about 50 scrub oak trees so the amount of mulching I do is substantial. This mulch kit is well worth the money for the average user but is clearly limited by the supplied attachment fittings.

I purchased it 7/17/2013 and it was delivered. During the delivery, the tall truck broke our cable line between electric pole and house. Due to my vacation of the next day, we just opened the wooden box and carried to garage. We operated after reading the manual, it does not go smooth and then stopped. We found that the fan on the top of the belt was broken. We called to Amazon and let them know that it was delivered the broken tractor. They asked for replacing it or fixing through Husqvarna service center. If I uses it through fixing, amazon personnel told me that they refunds some part to us. I told them that I will try to fix it because it is too heavy for shipping and handling. I called Husqvarna service center at San Antonio, but they only fix it if I takes it to their shop. We decided on replacing it. The next day we tried the lawn tractor before replacing and it moves and works except the broken fan. I called Amazon personnel to tell that we will fix it through Husqvarna in San Antonio. Yesterday (8/7/2013) I visited Husqvarna office with the broken fan, two pictures of the broken part of Husqvarna, the purchasing receipt, and serial number of lawn tractor. They charges me for the broken fan part because they cannot fix it without taking it to their shop even it is a warranty period. I wish I can take it. But look at the cute heavy lawn tractor! Do you know how heavy it is. I don't have truck for moving this one. Amazon service department easily says that "do you want to replace it." But it takes a long time for replacing it and waiting for delivery for this heavy item. If it is simple light item, I can return or replace it. But, the time is money to me for waiting shipping people and waiting for another delivery. Never purchase through Amazon if you cannot easily carry. It makes headache. I don't know whether they refund some part. They may be happy with the sale with profit.

Never purchase Husqvarna product if you don't have any truck or you don't carry easily. The warranty period and writing does not work. The service center only says that we only process warranty if you bring the heavy lawn tractor in their shop. They don't have any common sense or they don't know how heavy this lawn tractor.

I purchased and paid the fan in the Husqvarna service center and waiting for the delivery. I still don't know whether it works properly after replace this fan. I spent more than 5 hours for taking care of this without knowing how many hours should I spend for solving this problem.

I strongly recommend that "Never purchase though Amazon if you cannot carry easily!" Don't forget that, if you are purchasing Husqvarna item, they only fix it if you bring it to the warranty service center. Therefore, the warranty will not work if you purchase heavy item.

Husqvarna Model # YTH2348 - 96045005
The cast broke on my threaded part where the bolt and washer goes into the spindle shaft.
I ordered this one as a replacement.
Be advised, I am completely happy as what I received was a complete unit with everything, bolts, Etc.
Note: You must install the old washer though between the pulley and spindle. But, this is no problem.
Also pump up with grease! About 12 pumps...at the fitting.

Works and back to mowing. Did I mentioned that I hate Husqvarna lawn tractors! Their crappy customer service is only exceeded my their crappy products. Four failed weldments right on the seams jointing on the deck and the hanger brackets and front deck rollers. I had a welder come over and look at the Husqvarna piece/parts and he determined that they were cold welds (welded on late Friday). According to Husqvavna I should try to take it back to the big box store. But it took Husqvarna over 45 days to determine that it was my problem and not their problem, there go that 30 day return policy! Husqvarna should have stuck to dirt bikes. I'm done. Fit as described, rather comfortable and plenty of straps to hold this close to your body. I just received my mower Feb. 11-2015...came in a huge crate. You're going to need a big crowbar to take it out of the crate. I did it by myself but two people would make it easier. The battery was dead so I had to charge it for one hour at Auto zone. They did it for free. Put gas in it and it started right up. So now I have to make sure everything is functioning the way it's suppose to. So far so good.

Yes I love my lawnmower. The only challenge is that it came in a crate so I had to have my neighbors son help me get it out of the crate, dispose of the crate, and then get the mower running. Hind sight this would probably have been an easy process if my husband had been home and ready to pull out his tolls. Since it was just me when this was delivered, I had to ask for help.

Make sure that you order the self tapping mounting bolts to install this part. Some buyers say they received them with the spindle but others such as myself did not. The mounting holes are not tapped (threaded). The bolts are available on this site. While you could reuse the original bolts it's not recommended. The threads are not as sharp and you will encounter difficulty as you try to tap the mounting holes. Keep oiling the bolts as you install them.

This part has the same quality as one you would purchase locally. The only difference, it's half the price.

I could not get my deck to level even after replacing my mower blades on my 42" Craftsman YT3000 (Husqvarna made) mower. I decided to replace both the mandrels.

The originals did not have grease fittings but I figured these would be better. When they arrived, one of the grease fittings was broken, but I had extras to replace it. The visible side of the bearings are sealed. Not sure if the hidden sides are or not. I'm guessing they probably are and greasing them might be pointless. I decided not to chance it and pumped them full of grease though.
The nut that came with them did not work with my pulley so I had to reuse the original nuts. I'm guessing it probably works with the 54" deck it was intended for.

I am not a big fan of self tapping screws that can break in the housing. I mounted these with stainless steel hardware instead. I threaded the bolts from the bottom into the spindle first and put washers, lockwashers, and locknuts on the top side of the deck. Now, I can remove and reinstall them without replacing hardware.

I was able to finally level my mower and they have been going strong for 2 seasons now.

Arrived on time and in great shape. Started without problems and chewed up the fall leaves that had been laying around for a couple of months. Powerful and smooth, handles well, would definitely recommend.

Works perfect, came with new bolts so there no need to order them separately. I did and now and now have 4 spares.

Easy to put on and take off and gives definite peace of mind when sawing up firewood or cutting down trees. Care must be taken to keep leggings oriented forward while working since they only cover the front part of the legs.

I was really hesitant to buy something this big and expensive online. However, there were enough good reviews that I took a chance. It came all crated up and I was really excited to open it up. It was almost like Christmas in June.

Then I opened it up ripped the plywood back and just rolled the lawnmower down the plywood on my into my driveway. That was my first mistake. I accidently rolled it over the sharp staples and flattened 2 of the 4 tires. But this was not their mistake, it was mine. So I fixed the tires and got to mowing.

This was my first riding lawn mower so I am a bit of a newbe, but if I had to do it over again I wouldn't have gotten a 42" deck. I would have gotten something smaller for my half acre yard. I think a 42" would be fine if I had an acre or more, but for my size yard it just seemed slightly big. When I cut I noticed it cuts slightly uneven consistently. I have read to try and see what I can do to fix it, and some people say all the tires are not filled to the same PSI. (I thought that would be me since I had to fix two of them.) However, upon further inspection all my tires had the exact same pressure. I have also read that your deck can be bent, but the thing is brand spakin new. I haven't hit anything, I have barley used the thing. I have only mowed my lawn 3 times with it. So I am going to blame it on the lawn mower, it doesn't cut perfectly even.

If I had purchased it at a local store I probably would have taken it back, but it is not that big enough of deal that I was willing to crate it back up and ship it back.

So, do I like it? Yes. Would I buy it again? Yes, if my lawn were larger. But for a half acre I would have gotten a smaller deck.

Also, one other small complant. If I put the thing in reverse while the blade is turning it will quit. I am sure this is for safety, but it sure is a pain. I wish the blade would continue to run if I put it in reverse.

Anway, thats my two cents.

Works great for using a chainsaw and for weed whacking. I have a high powered 4 stroke weed whacker and these work great protecting my legs. Plus, I can wear them with shorts. I might not be fashion forward, but I get the job done!

This is a very well made blade; extremely husky. It is not as high lift as the original stock blades (which I think are actually "bagger" blades - super high lift). I have begun to suspect that the higher the lift, the better the cut. The added air flow makes the grass stand up better to be cut. So, the lower lift of these blades translates to a rougher cut. I end up making more passes (narrower cuts) to overlap the previous pass. With super-high lift blades, I can make one 54-inch pass and be done with it. Not so with lower lift or mulching blades.

That said, I only knocked off one star, because the blade is what it claims to be, and it is well balanced and extremely rugged. My application is what it is.

One other important thing to note: Super high-lift blades kick up a lot of dust in the dry season, and if I run over a mole hill, it will send a gigantic dust cloud drifting into my neighbor's yard, much to their annoyance. So I must run the mower at a lower speed, or use a mulching blade, or lower lift blade such as this. Everything in life is a trade-off.
