I bought this camera last week and I love it. I have a large zoom digital camera (Panasonic Lumix) for wild life photos on vacation. But I wanted a small point and shoot to take mostly inside photos of my dog, in low light. I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-W50 that takes great outside photos, but horrible, blurry inside photos. I found that unless my dog sat completely still, every photo blurred. Not with my new Fuji. I've taken at least 300 photos in the last 5 days and they're terrific. I mostly use the Anti-blur setting with a red eye reduction flash for my dog, and I haven't been disappointed. I also looked at the Canons, but found them to be slow in writing speed and flash recycle time. I considered the Fuji F40d or F50d at $250, but the flash recycle time was very slow on the F50d, which is the newer version. For $150, I have a great camera that does exactly what I want it to. Great battery life considering how much I've been playing with it in the last week. I recommend it.

All the positive points cited by other reviewers are true. Lightweight, easy to use point and shoot. I found it fine for indoors use. But outside, the LCD display was so dark all I could see was my own reflection. No way I knew what I was shooting. So, regretfully, I am returning what is otherwise a good little camera, and I will stick to my (much heavier) Canon powershot with viewfinder - even without the viewfinder, the display on the Canon shows up better in daylight than does the Fuji.

It has a very cool feature: the face recognition, it works very nicely. I have been toying with it just for fun and the camera recognizes most of the faces as long as they are fully facing the camera or not looking away more than 50% to the sides. It's a very cool feature and it does it's best job in focusing and color compensating to make the faces look better.

The camera is very slim and fits nicely in any of my pockets. To turn it on you just slide the cover to the side and are ready to shoot. Plenty of manual settings and some buttons to get to specific functions.

With a 2Gb memory card I get almost 30min of video at VGA resolution, more than enought to get the funny little videos and show panoramic views of a place.

Another cool feature is the "normal & flash" option, which takes one picture with ambient light and immediately another with flash, so you can be sure to get a good picture at least.

I'm very happy with this camera.

Only low grade I can give is the lack of an optical viewfinder, I find that the large LCD display is not very useful on harsh daylight (as I'm used to reflex cameras) and I don't like to hold the camera so far away from my body because of the instability that causes. It would be nicer to hold the camera against my face to provide support.

All true complaints of the reviewers, but there are some solutions.

Set the auto switch off to 2 minutes, even if the camera is turned on in your pocket (it does when you slide it into the pocket due to the direction of the opening motion).

Battery, at my pace, the battery won't last a full day, so I bought a backup battery, very cheap and convenient.

Finger blocking the lens, is just a case of learning how to hold the camera. At first is annoying but is no big deal after a few days.

Quality of lens, hey if you want professional quality, this is not the camera, this is an point and shoot camera, convenient to carry at all times, just to grab the photo opportunity and avoid blaming yourself the rest of your life for not getting "that shot" on time.

I have been involved with photograpy for over fifty years, purchasing about one new camera per year. This one was for my wife, but I like so much i may steal it.

Please don't call this a point and shoot, It is no toy, this is a serious camera that does things that Canon and Nikon can't match even for an additional $1,000.

First the F/ 2.8 lens functions very well, even in dim light, all the way from 28mm to 400mm without ever having to carry or swap in another lens. This is a BIG advantage when you are traveling.

Second the sensor is a revounary breakthrough. 1/2 the size of the big boys for better depth of field, twice the size of the cheapies for better noise control. This sensor and lens were designed together as a package, Nothing stuck on here.

The list of features is too long to list, but chances are if you want it is here, plus some things you didn't even know that you wanted. Can you tell that I like it!

Had my S100fs for two months, the flash stopped working so sent it to Fuji in Bedford for repair. They have sent me a bill for £99.99 whilst still under warranty, they also offered an alternative of trade in value of £40.50 to put in against a new camera. I am totally disgusted with Fuji for the lack of service and after sales. Try ringing them!! Took me 50 mins to get through

I'm going on a trip to Europe and needed a new camera. I wanted a simple camera that takes great pictures and has long battery life. My new Fuji is all of this. You can figure out how to work it straight out of the box without needing to look at a manual. All the features are great, the pictures look nice. The battery is easy to charge and lasts quite a while. I would definitely recommend this camera for anyone who needs a high-quality, simple camera. Plus, you can't beat the price.

The reason i bought this camera is because it claimed to have "image stabilization." That is a bunch of bull. The anti-blur mode is even worse then the normal shooting mode. You cannot take pictures without a flash. You cannot take distance pictures without blur. Basically the only thing the camera can do is take up close pictures with a flash. I am returning it and am just going to re-purchase my original cannon i had that was only 7mp but took much much better pictures and videos....

Small camera, the only negative thing is that the screen edge shouldn't be out of the camera, it should be flat.
But the camera it's still ok...

My 4 yr old Finepix finally quit after thousands of pictures and hard use. This is a very well priced replacement.

My wife teaches digital photography classes and has always used Fuji cameras (we have a collection of about 20). They are durable, are able to focus at 15 inches are so, and simple to use. The pictures are high quality when the price of the camera is considered.

However, we CANNOT recommend this camera. Instead of the the typical pair of AA batteries, this camera uses a proprietary, non-standard battery. The price on Amazon is $49.95!

When you are on vacation and use up the battery in one day, you won't be able to stick another pair in (unless of course you pay the $50.00).

Many other point and shoots use AA batteries. We recommend you buy one of those instead.

I was looking for a new camera which should have good optical zoom.I found that there were 3 of them Fuji S8000,Panasonic DMC-FZ18 and Olympus SP550.I read through reviews of all of them and found them to be very similar.

So I looked at cost and buydig has ot for 289-50(MIR) so I choose it.And the rest are comparitively expensive.Ya of course the reviews does say of sligh problems like abberations at full zoom etc.But these are not visible to normal people unless you look for it.Other mentions are lack of hot shoe and RAW.The flash of Fuji is very strong.So it doesn't need an external light and if you need such set ups a D40 would be better.Coming to RAW format who has the time to change RAW to JPEG in computer.So basically none of them were important.

I am happy with the camera and it's functions though I am yet to play with the manual modes.Its good enough in auto.Best bang for bucks considering the MIR before end of March.

This camera will do anything you want to do, and do it well. If you want to use it as a point and shoot, it excels at that. If you want to use it as a DSL replacement, it excels at that too. Great zoom, great sensor, great features, and good price. I can't say enough good things about it. All the complaints I've seen are nitpickey. Just buy it.

This camera works the best from all the cameras we've had. This camera was dropped, thrown, drooled on anything you can think of. So we didn't take care of the camera very well, but it worked great! Very good quality images fun games and very easy to use. The only problem was that if you connected it to you PC to download pictures, and disconnected it. It would give you an error, and the only way to fix it was by connecting and disconnecting the camera again. The battery in this camera is great!! We used it for at least a week non-stop and the camera's bettery lasted for that period of time. Buy this camera you won't regret it!

I have had the camera for 4 weeks, and it is just what I was looking for, a camera that gives me a great auto option but also the opportunity to make my own decisions about settings when i have the time to try to be creative. The batteries last for hundreds of shots at 8 MP and the fuji 2GB card seems fine. My 'old' 3mp compact digital camera cost me £260 three years ago, so this feels like a real bargain at just over a hundred. I bought it from pixmania, it arrived in three days and had an english manual. It doesn't fit in a pocket, but if you want to enjoy photography this is a bargain.

This is a great camera for a non DSLR. The features are extensive and the camera can be used either by a novice or advanced amateur with little difference in the final outcome. The zoom is very good and easy to use and you don't have to cart separate lenses, etc. The view finder and display are both available which beats most DSLRs which is a plus for those who like versatility. It can be held above heads and still get a preview of the picture with the tilt screen. As with most cameras with a 400mm zoom, it is relatively heavy, but the results are worth the weight.

This camera can take both SDHC and XD flash memory cards.

According to Wikipedia entries, these two types of card offer varying performance.

The XD memory card has a theoretical maximum write speed of 4MB/s. However, the SDHC card offers up to 22.5MB/s.

The Fujifilm documentation is vague about the compatibility of memory cards with this camera, but I can confirm that a Transcend Class 6 SDHC 8GB card is working fine in my S5800 camera.

What can I say? This is an amazing camera and a brilliant price. It takes wonderful photos and is very simple to use. I can't think of any downsides to it, it is just amazing!

Fujifilm Finepix A350 5.2MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

This is actually the 2nd of this basic model that I have owned. For the price I paid it takes good pics.

I didn't have the blurry picture issues that some folks have complained about. I suspect a lot of them were taking pictures indoors and had turned the flash off.

However, both of these have had problems with the lens sticking. The first one was an A345 and it's lens failed after about 13 months, i.e. after the warranty ran out.

I bought the A350 as a replacement about a year ago because I liked the layout of the controls on the A345 and the optical viewfinder, great for action shots. I love the continuous shooting mode, if you're trying to catch a good shot of a duck coming in for a landing or taking off, or any other kind of action shot this feature works great.

Now the lens is starting to stick on the A350. From the other reviews I've seen this appears to be a basic design flaw.

I like to carry a camera with me all the time in case there's a photo opportunity. This camera does not appear to be rugged enough for that. I'm going to take it to work to photograph equipment and test setups as long as it holds up and probably pop about $100 more for a decent Canon to carry around.

great camera with many manual features for the more professional users, very good value and good battery life, bit bulkier than a compact but the 10 optical zoom is brilliant.
however only comes with french instructions which you dont find out until you drill down very deep into the description,and you won't realise if you just buy it on face value until you get it. I don't recommend pixmania as they stil havn't answered my emails requesting the manual and the description is not accurate
UPDATE - 09/04/08 I was contacted by Pixmania who were concerned at the poor feedback I left for them, they have agreed to make it clearer (before you buy) that the camera only comes with a French manual and the manual is downloadable. They offered to refund my postage in compensation which I've accepted, nice to know complaining still works....

I received my Fuji FinePix S100 fs today from Amazon.co.uk. It was a superfast delivery.I have always had a good experience with amazon.co.uk and have always received new items.

Unfortunately on this occasion I noticed that the box wasn't sealed. It didn't take me to realise that the item was actually not new but probably a return product that I had purchsed at full price. I could see fingerprints on the LCD screen.

I am already disappointed by amazon and now hope that the machine would function normally...I am waiting for the delivery of SDHC card.

It's not that I won't be pleased with the 8000fd, it's Amazon Export Sales I warn you about. First, Amazon promised free shipping. Then it recanted and charged close to $50 to ship to Spain. No surprise, but please be honest and up front. Second, Amazon promised a free Fujifilm 2GB xd memory card with the purchase, just plug in the promotional code, as Amazon calls it. I did. Twice and with the same result. Your code doesn't work. Well, it's the same damn number Amazon uses. And finally, there's the custom's tax deposit. This appears a sham. Because Amazon doesn't credit buyer with unused fees charged, and normally, according to my expat friends living here, there is typically none. That means another nearly $60 goes to Amazon in a hidden deposit account. Ever hear of fraud, Amazon? I was forced to buy only because I wanted this camera and could not get it here. Amazon Export Sales should be civily prosecuted for the tax deposit sham. How many millions does Amazon pocket every year from this?

For the money, this is a great camera.

The menu and user interface are very simple. The camera is quick during power up and with recycling after photos.

The image stabilization seems to help. I lose fewer pictures than with the Canon SD1000 that I had prior. I miss the viewfinder of the Canon SD1000, but this is quickly disappearing as a feature anyway.

The screen has been plenty bright for my use.

The included Lithium ion battery gives better life than AAs and is lighter.

I would recommend as a great starter camera or as a tote along compact that you don't want to sink a lot of money into.

I just recently purchased this camera, and I am absolutely in love with it. I was actually thinking about purchasing a Nikon camera, because a friend recommended that brand to me. But when I saw how much they cost, I decided to look around some more. Well, I accidently came across this camera, and after reading all of the wonderful reviews and doing some research I decided to go ahead and buy it.

Well let me tell you, I absolutely love this camera. It does everything, you could want a camera to do, and so much more. The pictures come out so clear and the camera is very compact and light; and it took me less than 5 minutes to learn how to use.
