I bought this printer to replace my all in one canon mp830 which broke after 3 years of minimal use.I chose this product because of the price and that it was primarily a photo printer.A lot smaller and more compact, and quieter than the canon which is nice.I've had it for about 3 weeks, and so far it works amazingly well. I have it hard wire networked with a windows 7 64 bit desktop, a mac OS X 10.4, a windows 7 laptop 32 bit, and an ipad all printing to it.Setup was easy with the disk included. No problem at all on any of the systems.A fast turn on time. The canon took around a minute to warm up. this is about half that.The photo quality is excellent. The pictures are perfectly matched to what's seen on my monitor. And fast too. I've got it set to print basic quality, so i can print a 4X6 in about 45 seconds. An 8 X 11 took about 1 min to 1:30. it has an option for fine print quality that i have not tried yet.i've printed about 10 4x6 and 2 8x11 and the ink supply is holding up well.Scanner works well. quality is good. Scans well over the network.copy is ok. flat copies are fine. but copying book and magazine pages were difficult. i found it was more econimical to scan the book pages to make sure they were legible before printing.Fax machine is easy to use. no problem. the canon fax option was complicated.I don't use it for basic printing of documents, but that works well too.It has an eprint option that allows you to print to it by sending an attached document via an email to it's email address. So you can print documents from work to home by emailing them to your printer. Pictures too (even from your phone). pretty cool.again the best part is the price. I spent a lot of money on the canon and the scanner lock system broke and the whole thing shut down. very dissapointed.this was about $100 less, so if it breaks after 3-4 years i won't feel completely ripped off.the only reason not 5 stars is its only been 3 weeks.

I bought this printer for home office use. I just could not buy another HP because I have had so many problems with them in the past. Since this printer got such good reviews I decided to give it a try. I do most of my work on my iPad these days and I needed a printer with air print. I was able to connect this printer very easily by myself in about 20 minutes. It prints very nicely and is quiet. I did, however, have a problem when it came to using air print. I could not get it to print from my iPad. It would print from my iPhone, my pc and by choosing an action from the touch screen of the printer. My iPad would recognize the printer and I would choose it and hit print, but I always got a message saying that there was no paper or a paper jam. This was very frustrating for a while. I finally found a solution. In the App Store you can download a free app called Epson iPrint. When there is something I want to print I take a screen snapshot and then go to the app. I look under photos and find what I saved and choose print. It is very easy and works perfectly. I just wanted to pass this along in hopes it might save someone else a little frustration.

Definitely the best printer I've owned in terms of:- photo quality- functions and features- ease of use- ease of setup- compatibility with my devices- appearanceThe one thing that has disappointed me is it's size - a little on the big side and requires ample desk space.Other than than, I followed the quick instructions and had it printing with my computer and iPhone with very little effort.My primary use of this printer is for printing quality photos and scanning photos. With these two features I am impressed with the quality of the results and the speed at which it completes these tasks.I have been disappointed with so many printers in the past and before this printer, just wished there was an economical printer that could at least handle photos well. I could accept an older printer to handle the grunt printing of regular 8x10 paper.Well I'm happy to say, with the recent discount on this printer, you can't get better value. And since Epson is known for quality photos (with the exception of my previous Epson Stylus NX43xxx series, which is complete junk IMO), this should server the value photographer very well.

Does everything: Prints, scans, faxes, copies and has a card reader and flash drive port. Connects to your network using either WiFi or Ethernet. Or connects to your computer via USB. Supports Bluetooth printing. Has separate trays for copy paper and photo paper. Supports duplex (two-sided) printing, and prints on CD/DVD. Scanner supports both tray and document feeder. Document feeder seems more robust than the previous model (Artisan 810 in my case). Control panel lets you plug in a flash drive or memory card and print photos directly from the printer. Also allows you to copy or move photos from the memory card to the flash drive, or to any of your configured computers. You can also choose to scan to a file or pdf and send it directly to any of the configured computers on your network. Configuration means installing the software and letting it find the printer. And of course you can control scanning and copying photos directly from your computer. This model is quieter than previous models, and a bit faster. The control panel has been cleaned up and simplified.

My old HP PhotoSmart 2710 bit the dust and I bought this Epson Artisan 837 with some trepidations. That PhotoSmart had made some 27,300+ in its lifetime.The old HP has been such a wonderful work horse - only 1 - 2 jams in its lifetime, made beautiful photos with great clarity. But sadly it is no longer manufactured. So I decided to go a little more high tech.After circling this thing for a few days and having to get my computer guru to come in and complete the set up (I just got to point I could not do rest of it), I began to try to master this.Pro - it has a great front/back device that totally eliminates any manual work for this type work.Pro - the auto document feeder will be a big step up from the old HPPro - the keyboard is easy to masterPro - can use my new soon to be purchased IPhone with itBUT !!Have not yet mastered scanning! - I'm scanning but it's going somewhere out there in cyberspace and I can't find it in my documents, etc. This is a must learn thing!AND ! !Please tell me that it's not going to be drinking ink as it has to begin with the cartridges that came in the box - I've been using this now less than a week and the black ink is showing low already ! IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM, PLEASE DO OR ELSE I can see big, big bucks being spent on new ink cartridges out there. The Epson ink cartridges are super pricey compared to my old HP PhotoSmart.ALSO ! !Is there anyway to print out in an more economical fashion? Not much luck there after trying several selections in the print box.AND ! ! Using my old HP copy paper doesn't do well on back/front copies - printing from one side shows through to the other.The three star rating is more about the ink problem than anything else - hope I can master a better way of printing that will be more cost savings than what I've done to date.All suggestions/help will be greatly appreciate by this very senior citizen gray headed lady looking at 78 years old soon! Thanks!August 21, 2012 - - troubles! Epsom printer will not print correctly if you are doing a book with pages and try to auto print front/back. It prints the first page correctly but the print on back page comes out upside down. I'm going to change my star selection on this and downgrade. It seems this is a glitch in the Epsom printing program that has not been fixed yet. What a shame!

Had high hopes for this product but major disappointment. I haven't been able to receive faxes and after much searching on google, finally found the small print on Epson site saying it "may not" work if you have digital phone service like through your internet/cable service. This isn't in their literature but rather was a response to someone's question about how to receive faxes. They should have that stated up front as it is terribly frustrating when you buy a machine to fax and receive faxes and get caught in a tight timeline and can't receive a fax. Even stating it in the manual would be helpful so you aren't caught short when you need to receive a fax. The printer works adequately but ink is gone very quickly, like after printing a 7 page color brochure-2 ink colors had to be replaced. The machine itself is plastic and doesn't seem too durable. If you only plan to use it occasionally to print something in color, perhaps it will work for you but wouldn't recommend it to anyone myself.

I bought this printer due to government cutbacks at work. I needed something in the home office realm which I could accomplish the occasional work related task. This printer far exceeds what I expected, with the added bonus of being able to print beautiful photos during my off time. Printer is amazingly quick and quiet. I have not experienced any wifi connectiviity issues that have plagued others. I have not tried using any of the fax features on this printer, as the setup seemed overly complicated and was still asking for a landline number. I need to do further reading in the manual about that feature. Airprint (Wireless Device printing) is probably my favorite feature with this printer. I love being able to print documents/webpages/phtos from anywhere using my android. I managed to even print PDF's to myself while I was on leave two states away. Overall, extremely satisfied with this printer and the value being sold at on Amazon.

This is a very good all around printer, as others have stated. I agree that the plastic trays seem flimsy. I've used Epson photo printers 3800 & 2200 for the last decade exclusively and decided I needed an all around so I wasn't wasting precious photo quality inks.With the 837 documents look great, faxing & scanning is easy & the occasional photo looks swell. This is not a dedicated photo printer so you can't expect it to look as good as say the 3800, but it does a decent enough job w/ pictures.Epson drivers are never that happy with the MAC OS, so if printing looks crappy there's a good chance you need to explore the print driver setting and make sure photos are not being double processed... meaning if you're printing out of photoshop etc, make sure ONLY photoshop or ONLY the printer is controlling print setting. If you have both checked you will get muddy pics... Same deal for docs.Bigger the issues arose when connecting to my network. maybe this fix can help you, pc or Mac.I had trouble getting the printer to join my wifi network, I have an older mac router, which I thought might be the problem, it wasn't, butI did have to reset my router, (and all my airport expresses) & most importantly change/update my password protocol. My router had been setup to allow older legacy devices (such as a long gone 1st gen tivo) to access network. I picked a new wpa2 password, put the new password into printer, and it instantly joined the network, printing wireless from my ipad as well as imac.The wireless connection was still spotty, dropping in & out; I then changed the 'channel' my router used (through airport utility). I had to try a few different channels until I hit one that has since given a rock solid connection with no dropouts while printing or streaming music.

Prints photos fine but wastes alot of paper, the printer more often than not grabs multiple sheets of paper causing photos to be off center or on multiple paper even when using epson photo papers. I was hoping to use printer for multiple tasks, including printing checks but in order to do that, I have to load individual sheets because it grabs multiple sheets otherwise. With amount of money wasted on paper and reprinting, wish I would have bought a better printer.Review update, I originally gave this printer 2 stars and had hoped after a few months I would have a better opinion. The printer after 5 months of use has stopped printing from paper tray and defaults to the cd tray. After researching issue I was advised to to completely uninstall and then reinstall printer, it printed briefly and after 1 day the cd tray light is on and it is defaulting to the cd. I have never used the cd printing function. The printer does not seem to have a reset to default settings option or a way to reboot without completely reinstalling. Also, as other reviewers have mentioned when one ink runs out your done printing until you replace the empty cartridge. I have never experienced this before and have owned lexmark, hp, and canon printers. Pretty ridiculous to shut down black and white printing because light magenta is out. If you want nice pictures be prepared to spend extra money on Epson's own paper, if I had known other photo papers weren't compatible, I would not have purchased. At this point I feel I have no other choice but to replace this printer. I will not purchase another Epson!

This is a substantial printer for the price, we paid less than $100 new. It is the fourth multi function printer that I have had and easily the best. I have it installed wired on the network and the process couldn't have been easier to setup on all the computers. Easy setup and registered for cloud and email printing with no problems anywhere.Compared to the HP setup process on our previous printer, which was almost enough to make you swear off printing anything ever again, this was a piece of cake. We don't have any cd drives so downloaded the install file from their website and was ready to print in 10 minutes.The kids love it and quickly discovered the printable pages from the front menu. I like the fact that it uses 6 different inks as well. The scanner software is very basic but the quality is good.Overall a fantastic substantial printer and one that our cats don't seem to want to sit on and certainly cannot knock off the shelf.

I picked this printer up at my local BB due to the $$$ savings. I got lucky at it was $199+tax, which is still a great deal. I have been a staunch Canon user for YEARS, and have waited and waited for the MG8220 to be back in stock. Well, it's been 3 months, and I still couldn't find it. However, that's not why I jumped ship. I also own a Canon Selphy printer, and long story short.....have had it less than a year, and discovered (while attempting to use it) that they will no longer support this product on the Mac OS!!!! REally???? I was shocked. They said I could trade it in for another printer, except the other model doesn't support Mac's either!! Unless they are living under a rock, there are more and more Mac users by the day, so unless they want to lose more customers, they need to step it up. End of story...bye bye Canon.Now onto the actual review! LOL! I am actually in LOVE with the Artisan 837. I actually started out with Epson printers years ago, and did like them, except for the clogging ink carts. I figured since they don't use pigment-based inks anymore, it won't be an issue. The features are amazing and abundant! I haven't explored them all, but look forward to using them. It's beautiful to look at for one, it's modern, the UI is intuitive. I love the touch screen and HELLO???.... you can print your own notebook paper and graph paper....several styles. I've tried the coloring book feature, and it's a blast. works really well. The photos are gorgeous and fast to print as well. It doesn't have wireless scanning that i know of, but i would think it would be kind of useless anyway since you have to put whatever you want to scan on the scanner bed anyway! (someone please correct me if i'm wrong) I had no problems at all with setting it up, as well as connecting it to my iPhone for printing with the Epson app (get the official Epson apps....) from the iTunes store. It also works with my iPad!! I've not had this printer for long, but i will update my review when i've had it a little longer. Don't hesitate....buy it!!!

Nothing compares to the abusive experience of excitedly opening, setting up (20+min), and downloading the driver software only to discover your unit is WORTHLESS because you don't have a USB cord. What kind of [expletive deleted]bags create a piece of hardware and don't give you a USB cord??? I like how they don't put this fact on the box. You have to get all the way through the directions to get this nasty surprise. This will ruin someone's Christmas for sure. Also, the touch screen is insensitive, just like the money-hungry and heartless "people" who are too cheap to give you a USB cord/created this piece of trash. You have to touch it six or seven times for it to register. An 8.5"x11" piece of paper won't fit well into the tray, and the "free paper" pack consists of two photo-sized pieces of paper. That's quite magnanimous of you, Epson. You know what you can do with them. While the unit looks sleek, it is clearly a flimsy, injection molded piece of garbage that will break in short order. Epson has disappointed before with their fugitive orange ink scandal. I love my new paperweight, thanks so much Epson! I will NEVER buy anything from these people again--it is my new crusade to convince everyone I know never to give them any business until they collapse into a neutron star of chapter 11. ____ you, Epson!!!!

If I could return this printer I would but it is past the return window.timing. I have spent the last month trying to get it to work with my iMac 10.8.2 computer. I have finally accepted that this printer is just not compatible with my upgraded iMac. Epson support has given me long lists of items to check but I would need a degree in engineering from MIT to follow their instructions. I just purchased a new USB cable cord hoping that a direct connection rather than a wireless connection would solve my problem for me and still it does not work for me. Epson knows this printer is not compatible because they have a long list of work-a-rounds including updated downloads on their site but all of these are to no avail. I am left with no printer and a lot of wasted energy trying to put a square peg in a round hole. I feel sad about this because people who have P.C's give this printer high marks. With a Mac it is just not a match made in heaven. Next time I will read all of the other comments from all of the other frustrated Mac /Epson users on line and know that it was a warning sign to me to not buy this printer.

The printer can do a great job but it has one FATAL FLAW and one annoying flaw.FATAL FLAW: Often, with PDF files, it will starting printing total gibberish. There seems to be little pattern to it, but if you just resend the print job it may or may not print it correctly. Epson says it's Adobe's fault, Adobe says it is Epson's. Either way, it is a SERIOUS PROBLEM and no one wants to take ownership of it. As important as PDFs are, it is essential that someone accept responsibility and fix this.Annoying problem: This printer is very picky about print cartridges and will often say it cannot recognize a cartridge when it has been using it for days. Open and close the lid and it starts working again.

After set it up, I tested printing with some photos. It looks fine on screen.However, from the printer, it printed some vertical lines, unfortunately, it crossed the faces.So I can't keep this test printing. So far it happened sometimes not always.We need to find out the reason and please consider your decision until you figure it out.Otherwise, you will not be able to print your picture with this.Also 2 side printing is only supported by glass window.If you scan a piece of paper thru the feeder on the top, it doesn't copy both sides.If you scan a piece of paper thru the glass window, the printer will ask you to flip it over and press a button.The details doesn't describe how 2 side printing works.However, at this price, it is a pretty good feature.If you have more questions about this product, then please reply my post.I am more than happy to answer your questions.Enjoy shopping at amazon.com.

I love this printer. I bought it to print my photos. They are crisp high quality prints. ...and very fast. Setup was a breeze. There was one glitch tho. If you are setting it up for wireless printing, be sure to choose wireless in the initial setup. There is a quick setup guide included that says something about setting it up with a usb cable first then you will be given the wireless choice later. Be sure to choose wireless first, then you choose to finish the setup with a usb cable in a later step and everything goes smoothly. I printed about 90 4x6s before my ink ran out. I bought a CIS system instead of more cartridges cause I intend to print a lot more pics. I will update if anything changes but so far this printer is everything it is advertised to be!

I have now gone through two different printers that I purchased at Office Max. The first printer installed fine, but when I tried to print a photo to the included two sampled of 6x4 premium photo paper, the result was a mess. The ink was completely smeared and even after 3 days it was not dried and continued to smear.I took the printer back and a couple days later got a replacement. Initially, it looked like everything was going to work out. My first prints came out crisp and dry almost immediately. Then, two days later, I tried printing to an 8.5 x 11 glossy paper and the result stank. The black was globbing up and smeared after 5 minutes of sitting.What the H is going on here? Is Epson loosing control of their ink quality?I'm not sure I am willing to try a 3rd time!

My fantastic HP Photosmart 3310 eventually died on me after 5 years of great service. Upset that I couldnt get another same model and tried to choose another HP but basically gave up as a) I couldnt use my stock of 3310 ink cartridges (very expensive) in any other current HP printers - so screw you HP and b) All the latest HP printers dont seem to be up to the old standards. So - spent a lot of time reading numerous reviews of this and other printers. Also spent time looking at them in various stores. Eventually ordered this model as it seemed to be the most substantial and well designed of all the 'home' printers without going to the next level of bulky printer. There are a lot of cheaper models but they all seemed to be worryingly cheap/flimsy to me.Only just set the printer up but impressed with it so far. I read a lot of bad reviews about problems with set up and paper trays. I found the setup (on three laptops and one home PC - all windows XP)to be very easy - even with just using the WIFI connectivity (no cable). I did try to download the printer drivers from the internet for my Notebook that has no CD drive but found this just would not work (constantly timed out from the Epson web site)- so in the end I just copied the setup files from the CD to a thumb drive and loaded them onto my notebook that way.All in all it is a nice looking printer and so far prints and scans very well - software is easy and quick to use.In line with many reviews I have noticed that the paper trays do seem to be quite flimsy and of minimal strength - could be a problem in the future but we arent heavy volume users and will be careful when reloading paper. one of the nice features on the printer is that you can hold two paper sizes (including photo paper) in the paper tray so you dont have to take out and replace/re-adjust when you want to quickly print photos or envelopes - simple but something that many of the other printer models dont seem to have.Will report back after a few months if anything does go wrong with paper feeds and ink/print heads etc but a very nice printer for home office use so far.

I use this for printing, copying and scanning, and I appreciate the convenience of the ADF and Duplexer.I mostly print on plain paper, and sometimes cardstock or labels.Now and then, two sheets will feed together, but no paper jams.The OCR program (AABBY) is very versatile.Color and mixed text/photos works fine on plain paper.I've only done a little printing on photo paper, some very good, and some horrible.But maybe I am using the wrong paper or settings, or printing with some cartridges low on ink.I like the separate cartridges for each ink color, and lower prices than others.BTW, for monochrome printing, I have bought the Epson K300 for pastors in Kenya and the Philippines for low-cost printing, and they are happy with the results.

While I like the high-end Epson printers, I've usually gone with HP when it comes to all-in-one systems. After using this Epson, my opinion has changed. This is a very well made device.I was impressed right out of the box - Epson made a great effort to package the system so it can withstand the bruises inflicted by transit. That may seem like a minor issue, but it's important to me as I can't remember the last time I purchased electronics from a brick and mortar store. It's nice to see that some manufacturers understand that their products are going to be shipped (usually without any other protection) and take steps to ensure that it gets to the customer in working order.Build quality seems generally good, although the paper tray seems flimsy. That's a tough call to make, however, since some plastics are engineered to be both light but also sturdy. Thus, no stars were deducted on that account. It does look quite nice - much better than the bland, drab putty-colored office machines.Setup was straightforward. I was worried about wireless setup since my last wireless printer (an HP) took a couple of hours of the `try this/swear/try that/swear/try something else' approach to installation. The Epson was quick and painless.Photo print quality is excellent - much better than I expected at this price point. No, it won't give a high end photo printers that cost five times as much a run for their money (especially in monochrome), but for general purpose snapshot printing, this is fantastic. Sharp, clear and fast. Really fast!Faxing was also easy to set up and use. The paper feeder works very well for multi page feeding even with rumpled pages. The touch panel greatly aids in helping you figure out what to do without guessing or (perish the thought!) looking it up in the manual.My only complaint is the ink. It's not a great printer when it comes to black ink use - the cartridge is small and priced higher than other black inks when you compute the cost per ml. The printer will not function when one of the cartridges is empty.This is not the best choice if you plan on using your all in one for a lot of B/W tasks (e.g., mainly for faxing and B/W copies). There are more economical choices out there. This is, however, an outstanding choice if you want to do a fair amount of color photo printing plus have the ability to make a copy or send/receive a fax all from the same machine, and have a painless time setting it up for either direct connect or wireless use. Highly recommend.

I purchased an HP wide format 9800 that was not working well. The paper was jamming, the printing quality was poor so I returned it a week later. At the suggestion of the customer rep.,I purchased the Epson 837 instead of replacing the HP. I was told that ink, even for the standard cartridges, would yield a high quantity. Based on other inkjets that I have owned, the cartridges do yield a higher amount; however, not as high as I expected. The printer quality depends on the paper used. This printer prints beautiful pictures on good quality photo paper; however, I find that text is not a crisp on any kind of paper. Also, because the ink saturation is so high, it is important to get the "no smudge" labels because they will smear. I called Epson for support, and they said that this printer was not made to print labels, so use at your own risk.

We purchased the Artisan 837 to replace our Artisan 810 printer. The automatic feed on the Artisan 810 stopped working; we suspect that our cat jumped and landed on it, so likely not the printer's fault.I was never able to get the Artisan 837 printer to work reliably. From the outset, it would get paper feed errors. I was careful to adjust the tabs such that the paper was placed properly but not binding. I am not sure whether this was an issue with the rollers or motor etc...I diligently checked the duplex unit and the entire paper path. Nothing corrected the problem.I decided that the best route was to just replace the 837, so I went out and bought a Workforce 4530 and that appears to have a much higher build quality.I would not recommend the Artisan 837 based upon my experience.

I purchased the Artisan 837 to replace my 835 model which was a year and a half old when it failed. Being familiar with the 835, setup was easy for the 837. I've only had the new printer 2 days and so far it works as it's supposed to do. My main concern is if this new model is going to last longer than the last one. One and a half years is in my opinion not a reasonable amount of time for any printer to last. That being said I do like the way this machine works, it prints great on cds & dvds, copys and scans very nicely and though I've not faxed on this one My wife has a workforce 630 that we use for that purpose and it works great.

After the failure I had with Tigerdirect and a HP printer, I decided to go back to what I've used for years and get this Epson. In comparison, the box came shipped inside a box for protection and showed up two days after ordering it with super saving shipping, unlike the HP I purchased a few weeks before, which came looking like it was through a hurricane 2 weeks later. It took 20 minutes to unwrap it, set it up via wireless and finally, print a test photo. The printer is crisp and snappy, with image quality I was not expecting from a all-in-one device. The touchpanel is much smoother than the HP but the menu isn't as friendly.We leave the printer on and it goes into a sleep mode. When my girlfriend or I select to print from either of our laptops, it turns on quickly and prints within a minute.I haven't scanned anything yet or used some of the other features like sd card but I'm very satisfied with this product and would recommend it for anyone looking for a good family printer. The only real down to this printer would be the cost of the cartridges.4 stars because nothing is perfect and can be improved on.
