This printer is fantastic. It is easily found on sale on Amazon and other retailers, though I picked it up REFURBISHED for a mere $129.99, a great discount from the $300 MSRP. Even came with ink cartridges! The printer is great, super fast, accurate printers. Color photos (I only really print 4x6 from my digital camera - i'm not doing pro photography here) look fabulous, I was tired of going to the store to a kiosk and printing. I installed a CISS system with good quality ink (purchase the ink separate from the CIS) and it couldn't of been easier, they make it super easy with the cartridges that don't move. I am now printing full photos for pennies and I laugh at the cost of ink! The ADF is awesome for putting in documents and forgetting - come back and they are all copied. The printer itself is very stylish, it's footprint is slightly large for an all-in-one but it's to be expected with all the features. The only thing that absolutely boggles my mind is the paper input tray, and the paper output tray. They are the worst things ever invented, honestly. I don't know how Epson thought that putting cheap, super flimsy, I feel like I'm going to snap it every time I pull it out plastic. It really is horrible. This is a $300 printer and I would have expected better. The same can be said about the paper holding tray, It really is cheap plastic that gives you no solid feeling of this is the right way to do it. The paper holding tabs for sizing are cheap as well, and are hard to adjust.. usually you overslide them and it takes considerable effort to align them the right way. The cover actually automatically comes down when you print something as well, but what is the point if the paper just flies right out and on to the floor? My previous Canon had it automatically fold down and it would catch the paper (with the option of an extender to hold all of the paper if you are printing a large job). This is another design flaw that is useless. That being said, I will put up with the paper tray issues because it is such an awesome printer. The lighted control panel changes with only the buttons you need, and the others fade into darkness. I definitely would never pay $300 for this printer, but even $199.99 is a good price, and refurbished (can't tell the difference between the new one) for $129.99 was a steal, especially with the ease of a CIS system (highly recommended).

I just received my Epson Artisan 837 (with $3.99 Amazon Prime 1-day shipping) and installed it yesterday. The bottom line is that Epson has a winner, I made the right selection for me, and I highly recommend this product! The printer itself is beautiful, sleek, and not too large for my cabinet-top. The printing, copying, touch panel, optics, firmware, flawless setup process and level of automation were extremely well engineered. I was able to eliminate three other disjointed components plus a separate wireless print-server and all associated cables, power cords, etc with this multiple function component. We never needed a USB cable for anything-wireless worked perfectly, even for a firmware update.I'd been researching multiple function printers for a few months and had settled on either the newly announced Canon PIXMA MG8220 or the newly announced Epson Artisan 837. Both have excellent features, specs, reviews and capabilities. I wanted to replace my standalone Epson scanner, standalone Brother black and white laser printer/fax/copier and my standalone HP D5360 color text/photo/direct to CD & DVD printer, all with a single multifunction printer. They both would enable me to do this, but what pushed me off the fence was the auto-document feeder, which the Canon doesn't have.Make sure you remove the blue tape used to secure the 837 during shipping. There's even some tape you can't see, such as in the paper tray. By the way, some reviewers criticize the paper trays on both the predecessor Epson Artisan 835 and Canon printers. Indeed, the plastic is thin, but no more flimsy than many of my other printers and I have no qualms that it'll break unless I physically twist it.Setup was amazingly simple, fast and automated, using the printer's touch panel. It walked me through the process when I powered up, including connecting to my wireless network. I don't broadcast my SSID so it let me input my Network name, then it proceeded to verify connectivity as "excellent"! It prompted me to install the ink cartridges and after about seven minutes had primed them and was ready to print.Next, I installed the most current drivers for my OSX Lion Macbook from Epson's support website. The first note on the installation guide says to not use the included CD if running Lion. I never had to connect my Macbook to the printer with a USB cable at all. Once Lion drivers were installed, I let it find my Artisan 837, I configured my options for printing (duplex) and provided my header info and configured my Macbook for faxing. Last, I printed a test page to confirm everything was completed--all was perfect. Then I inserted the CD and installed the Print CD app, User's Guide, and ABBYY FineReader (everything except the drivers).I installed the drivers and fax setup on my wife's Windows 7 notebook using the CD. The Epson app scanned and found the Artisan 837 immediately, made the wireless connection, and proceeded to ask me if I wanted to automatically update the firmware (I did).I've printed photos, text and graphics so far and the results are truly spectacular, as are print-outs from the copy function. The scans were fast and very sharp. I haven't printed directly to a CD or DVD yet, nor have I used the fax (other than to test that the fax configuration is correct) but I'm confident both will be perfect as well, based on other reviews. If not, I'll post an update.** Updated review title to include great support for OSX 10.8 also.

I bought it from Office Max about a month ago and I can only say good things of the Epson Artisan 837. I will try to cover most important features, but I warn you, I am not perfect!Installation: Took me about 15 minutes, almost intuitive. I didnt have to physically connect the printer to the computer or the router. All I did is entered my wi-fi network key on the printer then made the software installation at the computer and the software found the printer connected to my network. Most of the times I download the drivers from the device's site, but this time I used the DVD that came with the printer then I did a check for updates and it happened that the software that came with the printer was the most recent. COOL!Printing: Excellent response times, super fast when printing black text. No paper jams. It prints graphics with great definition. However, graphics look much better if you use inkjet paper, it doesnt have to be epson's. I even printed a photo on a coated paper and the photo came out great. One thing I love about inkjet epson printers is the ink that doesnt smudge or run if water falls on it.Scanning: Superb resolution. Fast previews. It works with photoshop using the software's WIA support, but only if connected to the computer using an usb cable. Wireless scanning using the epson software is fast and without a problem. I scanned it to PDF and it works great as well. It actually stores the scanned document in the computer of your choice( I have 3 computers, macs and pcs) I mostly scan old pictures for restoration and pencil sketches for my work (graphics) and I feel this scanner is enough to do my job.Fax: Its good. I faxed 20 sheets with no problem. I used the "Auto Feeder" and no paper jams.Copier: I only tried it once and it worked fine and fast, almost as fast as a professional copier machine.Wireless printing from mobile devices: Not a problem here either. I print almost anything from my iPhone all I have to do is just email it to my printer's email and it prints it. Forgot how I got the printer's email, but I can tell you is not a difficult thing.I find that having separate ink catridges is a great idea that can save you money with time. Example, I once printed several proofs of a work I was doing for one of my clients and most of the artwork had cyan on it. At the end my printer still had enough Magenta, Black, and yellow, but almost no cyan. One thing that I will not do is to go back to those printers that had Magenta, Cyan, Yellow in one catridge. At times I felt bad pulling away catridges that still had enough from one ink, but not enough from the other. Before I decided for the artisan 837 I read reviews and tech specifications and I found that this model was the best that suited my needs. I looked at other epsons that offer faster printing speeds and cheaper ink catridges, but the artisan 837 has a higher resolution scanner and the print quality is much better than the other models regardless their price. If quality is your thing then the Artisan 837 is your choice. I am very happy and satisfied with my purchase.

In ISO/IEC 24711 testsBlack 98 ~520 pagesColor 98 ~805 pagesColor 99 ~510 pagesAt current Amazon prices that isBlack 98 2.89 cents/page (individual)Color 98 1.27 cents/page (5 pack)Color 99 1.47 cents/page (5 pack)What becomes pretty obvious from those prices is that this is a printer meant to print color documents, especially photos. If you print a lot of black and white documents this printer will do OK, especially since it will print both sides, but you could save a lot of money on ink getting another printer. Printers from HP for usually have much cheaper per page black ink costs. The Artisan 837 also has separate 8.5x11" and 4x6" paper trays (you can put paper as large as legal or 5x7 in those two trays), which lends itself to printing photos.A word on photo quality. This printer used with the correct paper produce better photos than you will get at a typical photo lab. I highly recommend the Epson Photo papers as they are designed for these inks and these printers specifically. I tested the "Epson Premium Photo Paper Glossy" and "Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper Glossy" and recommend both. Looking at the same image side by side on the two papers the differences are almost imperceptible. The detail and color are identical under the most careful scrutiny. A few differences emerge under very careful observation:* The Ultra Premium Paper is slightly heavier paper, this adds to its stiffness. When picking up a 4x6" photo from the 4" edge there is about half as much bend vs the Premium Paper.* The Ultra Premium Paper has an ISO brightness of 96, versus 92 for the Premium Paper. This makes no difference in color rich areas of photos but in light highlights if you stare long enough you can convince yourself they are brighter in the Ultra Premium. Telling the difference in brightness requires good light, identical photos side by side, and far too much scrutiny.* The Premium costs about 12.7 cents per 4x6 sheet in packs of 100* The Ultra Premium costs about 22.7 cents per 4x6 sheet in packs of 100Given the differences are almost imperceptible and the price difference is almost double I'd recommend the Premium for every day use and the Ultra Premium only if you are entering a photo contest or have money burning a hold in your pocket. Photos on the Premium paper will be better than you'd get at your local Walgreens or Costco.A few other notes on the printer:* Two sided printing is nice* Has a special slot for printing on CD/DVDs* Note paper goes face side down in the tray, this is very important for photo paper that is printable only one one side.* Touchscreen setup on network is trivially easy, having seen some bad printer interfaces this is refreshing* I confirmed it works with Mac, Linux, and Android. That's right, there is an app to print from your Android phone or tablet.* You can close the front to leave it looking tidy, and then when you print the front opens itself, nice little touch.* Ink cartridges in individual colors is a nice touch. You only have to replace the colors you use. In previous printers I've owned when one color in the multi-color cartridge ran out you had to replace the whole thing, wasting a lot of the ink in the other colors that weren't out yet.

So far I am completely satisfied with my printer. The only thing I am waiting to try is photo printing on epson photo paper, and printing off computer.I downloaded epson printing app on my iPad and iPhone and seconds later was printing off both. This added fester I did not have on my Lexmark all in one printer made the new purchase even better. Reading in other reviews I saw ppl write the photo quality is better using epson paper for photos so will try with their paper b4 I totally make judgement On photo printing quality. In the few photos I printed, I was using some hp 4x6 photo paper and some came out great and a couple came out mid quality, which may of been quality of picture vsmprinting quality.Overall in comparison with my Lexmark 7600 series I prefer the epson. Love the paper feeding for faxing, copying ect, and love touch screen plate vs buttons my toddler was always pushing. During printing it seems quieter, and even though the color cartridges are separate, the still are much cheaper then Lexmarks color cartridge. I also ordered the continual feed printer cartridges with printer for when ink needs replacing , which looks like an awesome way to prevent ink from running out causing whole printer to shut down cause of one color being out.Wireless printing is a feature I have with other printer but for whatever reason this printers setup seemed much easier and quicker. Would defineyly recommend this to anyone looking for an all in 1 print/copier/7 facer fori a great price.

I've used a lot of printers in 40+ years in the IT industry, just about every brand and type and I've personally owned several. I've only owned one really bad one in all that time. Currently I have 4 printers, 3 Epson Workforce units (837,810,710) and a Brother Laser. This printer is the best all-in-one light to average duty unit I've used. Great photo printing, b&w document are crisp and clear, operating costs seem reasonable, printing speeds (while not that important to me) are adequate. I've used HP, Lexmark, Canon and others and I prefer the Epson. In particular I like the CD/DVD printing capability which allows me to create more effective labeling than the lightscribe labels my burners create. Very nice as a capability if a bit clunky in how the process works - not terrible, but not all that intuitive.Duplex printing is a breeze and my experience with it has been very positive. It just works.Scanning is pretty much the same as other brands, works very well with excellent results. The Auto Doc Feed takes a bit of getting used to, but with use had worked flawlessly for me.Haven't used the fax much, worked fine the few times I used it. Frankly, I don't even have it hooked up to the phone line right now.I like the touch panel though for some reason I have a bit of a problem with all touch panel devices not wanting to recognize my touch. My wife doesn't experience this issue. Most functions are controlable from the panel and reviewing USB or SD card photos is handy now and then.I'm able to access the printer (networked wired) from all my devices (except our Kindle Fires) laptops, netbook, iPad, desktops, Windows XP, Windows 7, Ubuntu, iOS.I don't use much of the included software utilities as I prefer to use my own but the included disk does contain everything you'd expect.About my only real issue with this unit is a rather slow wakeup response time. In the home environment where use is sporadic and/or infrequent it would be nice to have a quicker response - that being said, given the normal warmup for a color inkjet I can't say that the 837 is unusually slow.Since I already had an 810 I can't say I'd have upgraded to the 837, there just isn't much difference. But as a new or replacement unit I'd have no hesitation in buying one.BTW, you should always factor into your buying decision process the possible cost of returning a faulty unit. Printers are heavy and not cheap to ship, and its unlikely you'll be reimbursed. If the price is right it could be best to buy locally. Just sayin...

The Epson Artisan 837 is probably more than the average user would need in terms of features and quality, but does it all very well. Color photo printing quality is excellent and does 4x6" pics as well as the drug store digital photo printing when using the same quality paper. I have also used some cheap thin photo stock which even provided very good results (although longevity may be the issue with this paper). The scanning capability is excellent, and the included scanning software is easy to use, as is the character recognition (OCR) capabilities for scanned documents. The document feeder for scanning and faxes is a definite plus -my last all-in-one didn't have this and it was sorely missed. The ability to copy from the touchpad with computer off is also handy, and the copy quality is excellent. I also like that you can print from memory sticks and cards without having to run everything through a connected computer (this was a major drawback to my last printer/scanner/copier).All in all, the Epson Artisan 837 is extremely easy to use and intuitive for both the touchpad features and included software. The output quality is excellent (and adjustable in terms of resolution and color/grey/B&W). On the higher settings, I have reproduced older developed 35mm photographs with no apparent loss of quality. If I take the time to scan them into Photoshop or PSP first, some of them even come out better than the originals.

I just got this printer after being with HP for a long yet not very pleasant time especially when it comes to printing photos. I have an iMac and you should know that there is a warning that came with the box indicating that the CD in the package is not good for the latest Mac operating systems and direct you to the web site. I did and the set up was the easiest I ever had. Then the real test which is photo printing. I got the lines across the print two out of four prints but the colors are excellent. I referred to the guide which recommended few things one of which is the alignment. Now that is a tricky thing because of the poor clarity of the instructions. When you activate the alignment function from the printer display it prints a pattern and then it asks you a question that is not very clear. Here is what I found. You will have four sets of patterns of 9 squares each and then it asks you for the number that matches the good example in the picture. It is not the number of squares but actually the ID number of the best square in the group. After a couple of confused responses I got it and responded correctly then printed a picture that came out very clean. All I can say so far is the pictures are very sharp, the 4x6 is amazingly fast and the 8x10 (A4) is a portrait quality. I don't know why but borderless options produce the best result. I think for the money it is a great buy. Now about the cost of ink and paper, this is an issue with all brands, it is like battery manufacturers that give you the toy for free and get their money from the batteries.

My previous printer was a six year old Epson Stylus RX580 printer. I was reasonably happy with it and it worked for a long time but, rather slowly. After doing lots of online research I decided to go with Epson again.I can't get over how much faster my new Artisan 837 is. It scans faster, prints to plain paper faster, prints envelope faster and nicely aligned (something that my 580 had problems with), prints CDs and DVDs dramatically faster plus I love the automatic built-in CD/DVD tray. The Artisan 837 is connected to my mid 2009 MacBookPro via USB but, I was delighted to discover that after setting up the printer using USB, I could still add the ability to login to my wireless network on the 837's touch screen. AirPrint is now working perfectly on my iPhone 5 and iPad Retina display. See, I thought that you had to chose one or the other but, in fact, you can be connect via USB and still have your iOS devices print to the Artisan 837 wirelessly. Very cool!I use Discus version 4.26 MagicMouse software to design print my CD and DVD labels. After closely following their Epson specific instructions, I printed a perfect label directly to the printable CD on the very first try. I was surprised how quickly it was finished.I purchased my new Epson Artisan from Amazon.com on January 28th. I took advantage of the Super Saver Shipping DIscount and it arrived at my home today at 2 PM.I'm extremely pleased with this fine printer and the quick service of Amazon.comThank-you!

I've always liked the Epson Artisan line of printers and have been using them for many years. While the 837 isn't an enormous upgrade over past generations, it's still a solid printer that brings a few new features. To get the usual praise out of the way, it still does the following very well:- Prints nice, vibrant photos- Prints on CDs/DVDs better than any other inkjet I've come across- Prints very quickly with minimal quality loss (although I wouldn't use the fast print setting for photos)- Scans reasonably fast and with a good amount of detail (for a printer)- Great for scanning documents, especially to an SD card (you just load in the document and press a few buttons and you've got a PDF--this is possibly my favorite feature)The downsides, as you'll find with most consumer-grade printers, is the build quality and the heavy ink usage. This thing uses tiny cartridges and blows through them very quickly. If you print often, plan to have a large stock of them. Also, as much as I like to promote the use of money-saving tactics I've actually messed up one of my Artisan printers by using discount ink. It may have been the brand, but the printer clogged and it was cheaper to get a new one (which is another big problem in and of itself, but not really the focus of a review). Basically, plan to spend quite a bit of money on ink. How much more you'll spend on ink with this printer than any other is something I don't know, but if I have several photos to print I generally order them because it's cheaper. I reserve the inkjet for small print jobs, CDs/DVDs, and scanning. The other problem is the build quality. While I've never damaged the printer's external hardware, it feels very flimsy. Just picking up the printer makes you feel like it could collapse in on itself. It never has and probably won't, but it just doesn't feel like a well-made piece of machinery.Overall, the downsides are pretty much what you could expect from any consumer inkjet printer. The upsides, on the other hand, are plentiful. While there are cheaper all-in-ones that will suit you just as well if you're a casual printer, the Artisan line is one of your best options if you plan to do a fair amount of work with your printer. I wish Epson would make a consumer-grade printer that was better-built and accepted larger ink cartridges, but that doesn't seem to be a likely future endeavor. Until they make something a little more solid and a lot more ink-efficient, the Artisan line is the way to go.

The artisan 837 is a sleek personal printer for a home office, intended for those who want a multi-function printer that scans, faxes, prints, prints cd's and processes photos, all on one device. It is also designed for those who do not want a monster size printer taking up half their desk space. My first impression of the device is that it is quite sleek looking. It is a glossy black exterior, with a nice digital touch pad to use for inputting data. But the slick blackness of it comes at a cost. It is difficult to see embossed lettering on the sides and top, especially if your office is a low light environment, and sometimes the digital pad isn't quite as responsive as I'd like.Installation of the ink cartridges was easy. There is an ink bay that opens and allows you to install each color in its own bay. There is no complex angle to insert the ink, and the cartridges snap in so you the owner can see they are properly installed. My second disappointment in the 837, was that the black ink cartridge was the same size as the other colored ink cartridges. As someone who prints more in black and white than in color, I appreciate it when a vendor makes the device accommodate a larger ink cartridge. Also, the ink cartridges are fairly tiny so I suspect I'll be shelling out more for ink soon.I didn't like the way the device loaded paper. The tray wasn't especially sturdy, and there was virtually too many options and ways to flub this easy task. I would prefer the custom paper tray be separate from the standard letter tray, so if I want to customize my tray to print photos I don't have to mess with the standard tray. Loading the paper required several tries to get perfect so the rollers didn't squash one side of the paper. I prefer to simply load and go, and not spend time fussing with the printer tray. The machine calibrated itself, and was read to work nearly instantly. To test it, I set up and used the fax feature. It worked quickly and easily. I appreciated how smooth the automotive print tray worked.Next I tried a black and white print. I noticed some black ink spots on the right margin of the page on a few of the sheets.Color printing produced a reasonable (albeit lighter) copy of the color image I fed through the automated tray. The printer is light on documentation for its advanced features. Features like the print to cd option are not covered. In the Quick guide, however you can find out more from the User's guide which is available online at Epson.Overall, I liked it, however some features could be better like the paper loading, the ink capacity for the black cartridge, and the documentation.PROS:Easy to set upSmaller than other modelsAll-in one designMany featuresSleek LookingEasy to insert new ink cartridges when neededAutomated paper tray worked wellCONSBlack ink cartridge same size as other cartridgesManual and features not properly documentedFussy paper trayTouchpad sometimes unresponsiveColor prints not color `true'Printed a few black spots on paper, however this problem went away after subsequent uses.

We are very happy with the Epson Artisan 837's printing quality when it comes to photographs. We've printed out 3 8x10's on the Epson photo paper and about a dozen 4x6's on high-quality photo paper we already had, and compared them with the same photographs printed and picked up from our local drugstore. The results are extremely similar, and I might even say the Artisan prints are slightly more brilliant in color. Either way, the Artisan is certainly not inferior. After we finished printing these photos, the ink levels were already halfway down on our magenta and black cartridges, and almost halfway on the rest as well. To be fair, the holiday photographs we printed did have a bit more red than a normal photograph may have, but not an overabundance. By my estimates, you should able to print perhaps 16-20 8x10 or 35-40 4x6 full color photographs before running out of ink. Obviously circumstances and type of photograph would make these numbers vary some, but I believe the ballpark figure is correct.Later on, we printed out a couple 8x10's on dollar store photo paper just for comparison purposes. We noticed the color wasn't nearly as brilliant on these as it was with the high quality paper. If you're going to use the Artisan to print photographs (which most people will), do yourself a favor and use high quality paper each time. It's definitely worth it.We've also used the Artisan for numerous regular printing jobs, and haven't had any issues whatsoever. The only issue we have now is our black and magenta cartridges have completely run dry, so we're forced to pick up some replacements for them. Replacement ink cartridges are not cheap. There are remanufactured or generic options available, but I'd rather get the genuine ink to have a consistent experience each time. Personal preference for me, the cheaper options may work just fine for others.Overall, our experience with the Artisan has been awesome, easily the best printer we've owned. Total setup only took a few minutes including wi-fi setup for our laptop, and the touch screen menu is relatively easy to navigate after exploring it a bit. We haven't experienced any paper jams or ink smudging. A smooth, even printing experience every time thus far. If you're going to get this exclusively for photograph printing, you will end up spending a pretty penny over time, but I think it's worth it for the convenience and ease of use. To top it off, it functions beautifully as a printer for everyday use aside from printing photos. A recommended purchase!

First, I love Epson printers. I am a long time fan of their professional imaging printers and could not say enough good things about the R1900 that I use for photography. I bought this printer to handle my routine office printing and scanning. For that, it does an excellent job. It is fast and reproduction of color is excellent. You will not be disappointed with the performance of this printer or the scanning capabilities when used for home design, office, and even light professional design work. Now why I don't like this printer. It is REALLY loud. But the real problem I have with this printer is it's layout. It is designed as if it is a part time printer. To explain, let us go through the process of printing something. To print something, you must fold the cover down that is on the front of the printer. Then, you must slide out an extension that then folds out three more times to form the paper tray. Now you are ready to print. So, you are done printing and the front of your printer looks almost as if it is being worked on with the paper tray out the way it is. So, you obviously fold the paper tray back up and close the front of the printer. Now everything looks nice again. But this is a wireless printer so later you are in the living room and need to print a report you received from your i-pad. You send the report to the printer and you know it is printing cause you can hear the printer from your neighbors house (exaggerating a bit). You later go the your office to grab the report expecting it to be waiting there neatly for you only to find out that the report is spread all over the desk and floor of your office. This is because if you do not manually fold down and extend out the paper tray each time, the front of your printer will open to allow the printing to take place but there is no place for the paper to land except for the floor.Maybe all new home office printers are built this way. It has been awhile since I have purchased anything other than a professional line printer. But years ago when I purchased a home office printer the paper tray was designed as such that the printer was always ready and that was not a wireless printer. Today when you can print from across the house or across town the printer should be designed so you never come back to it with your papers all over the floor and with this printer that is bound to happen on occassion.

This replaced my previous printer, and HP Photosmart All-In-One -- aside from a weird technical/network challenge which I had to work through (and will address below), I love this printer and am happy with the switch.PROS: - Network-enabled printing. Users on your home or office network can access this printer via Wi-Fi, which seems like not such a big deal but is really cool if you have roommates or multiple portable devices from which you might want to print. - Print quality is superb -- the best of any printer I've owned so far. I typically just print black-and-white but will occasionally run a color document or a photo and this printer performs very well. I wouldn't rely on this as a dedicated photo printer, however, and will go into this in the Cons - Sleek appearance - Touch screen interface is user-friendly (for most functions) and easy to navigate - Software / driver installation is straightforward - Decent paper capacityCONS: - Very large (takes up almost the entire surface of my credenza) - Color printing eats a lot of ink, and... - 6 ink cartridges (yes, you need all 6) may result in higher quality, but a relatively small black in capacity means you'll be getting more refills than you might be bargaining for if you bought this primarily for printing black-and-white documents - Slow startup time - Print-via-Wifi issues from some computers... see below - Printed pages fall to the floor unless you fully extend the fragile trayWIFI Printing was tough for me for a while. The first time I got this thing set up, my computer instantly detected and it worked great. The next day, however, I couldn't get it to print. The printer was on, and said it was connected, but my computer couldn't detect it on the Wifi network. I went online and read through a bunch of forums and ran through some driver uninstall/reinstall cycles that seemed to fix the problem. A little while later -- same problem!Since then, I've noticed that when you go to select a printer to print your document, you'll probably see multiple "Artisan 837" printers on the menu. The one you have to pick is "Artisan 837 (Network)" if it's showing up. Sometimes the others work, sometimes not -- but by selecting the (Network) one I've avoided any issues with printer connection.BOTTOM LINE: this isn't your printer if you just want something to run off black and white copies. However, if you plan on printing photos and/or color documents, and especially if you want Wifi connectivity and plan on using this printer from multiple devices, this is the printer for you.

This is a great choice in a printer especially if you need it for photographs because the quality of the printing is so good in both black and white and color. I am really impressed with the great job it does with photos--no need to get prints from the pharmacy. It is also very fast, even in color, you don't even feel like you're waiting. It will accept the memory card from your camera and the paper tray even holds the special photograph paper in addition to regular copy paper.Scanning and copying seem to take forever but as on other Epson printers I have tried, the quality is very good. I didn't bother to try out the fax because documents are so easily scanned and emailed and I don't know anyone who prefers to receive faxes instead of emailed attachments these days. In some offices, all incoming faxes are even automatically scanned and received by email.Setting this up wasn't difficult but it took me about an hour--that's from opening the box to being able to scan and print a sample photograph and print wirelessly from my computer. It has a touch screen that pops out for the control panel and the menu is fairly intuitive. It can be completely wireless except for the power cable. Usually I just use ethernet cables because that is easier than setting up wireless but it wasn't a problem even though my computer is an older Mac. You can also print wirelessly from multiple computers or from small electronic devices like iPhones that have that capability.Something unusual about the Epson Artisan 837 is that it has not four but six individual ink cartridges: black, yellow, magenta, light magenta, cyan, and light cyan. It will also will print directly onto a CD. What will they think of next?On the other hand, if there is anything bad to say about this printer, it is that like the other Epsons, the ink cartridges are ridiculously expensive and there are chips on them so they can't be refilled. There are two different capacities of cartridges available but a larger discount on the "Extra-High Capacity" ones would be nice. It comes with the regular ink cartridges and uses a lot of ink. Go ahead and order an extra high-capacity black cartridge when you buy the printer. If you are going to use a lot of color, you might as well go ahead and order a five-pack of the color cartridges as well. Do that three times and it's about the same as the cost of the printer! For most small business use, one of the other Epson printers with multiple paper trays and less emphasis on color and photograph printing would probably be a better choice. However, the Epson Artisan 837 is a 4.5 star printer for home use, especially if there are older children who will be using it to print a lot of color documents, particularly photographs. I'm rounding down to 4 stars instead of up to 5, though, because of the cost of ink.

So, my 620 gave it up and my wife, an artist insisted on me finding her a 6 ink cassette replacement to assure similar quality of photo printing. The unit arrived from Amazon and installed without any issues. Nice features and very high quality output. She didn't have any 4X6 photo stock on hand and cut down some heavy full size photo paper to try the unit out. The heavy stock at 4X6 got jam messages and we realized that heavy stock cut to 4X6 was just not feeding properly...got some regular 4X6 paper and the problem went away. Of course the ink cartridges are still expensive and they are much smaller than the 620s. We began using refilled cartridges from an after-market supplier in the 620 with good success, so we may take the same track with the 837 and save the difference between Epson and refilled costs. Epson could give the machines away for free as their profit on the ink is the only sore spot...that and with the 620, after a certain number of runs it gave a "service required" notification and we had to find a patch on line to avoid the machine refusing to print anymore...hopefully this will not be case with the 837...nice added features such as the ducument feeder, tilting enlarged lcd screen and the ease of set-up...can't complain about the price as it was $129.00 with a list of $279.00

The Epson Artisian 837 is an awsome printer. Prior to purchasing this printer, I did a lot of research on-line for a reliable, reasonably priced, and up-to-date(technology wise)feature friendly home-office printer. The reviews I read on CNET, BestBuy, and others all had great reviews. I found the perfect printer in the Epson Artisan 837.The setup was straight forward and fast - I got the wireless functionality set up with no problems. I am able to print wirelessly from my 2 laptops, IPAD, and Android phone. This printer also has cool features like E-Print, AirPrint, and Cloud Print - this basically enables me to print in various ways from virtually anyware. The scan and fax function will also be usefull for my virtual office needs.I tested all printer promoted functions and they delivered as promissed. The printer itself is well built - it didn't feel or look as flimsy or cheap as other models/ manufactures. The print quality is crisp (monochrome) and color photo prints (on Epson photo paper) are just as good as what you would get from a Rite Aid or some other photo processing place. This printer is also energy efficient - it goes into a sleep mode, when not in use.All in all, I would definetly recommend this printer for its technology, quality, and cost.

The first Artisan 837 I received had a malfunction (related to the ink cartridge initialization), but the second one has been perfect! I've had this Epson dream-machine for six months or so, and it's blown away my prior expectations of Inkjet printers and All-in-One machines. Not only that, but the price (considering all the functions you get) is amazingly cheap at $199.Everything this Epson Artisan 837 does, it does extremely well, and FAST, not to mention that it's easy to use and is also a beautiful piece of electronic art...until I had this printer, I had thought that Canon printers were quite good but this Epson product has altered everything I thought I knew about quality, speed, performance, etc.Furthermore, its ink supply (particularly the black ink) is exceptionally good and the cartridges seem to last much longer than Canon cartridges did. It's hard to decide what's best about this Epson, because just about everything about it is superb. It is extremely fast, it is very easy to program/use, it's gorgeous, its printed output is beautiful (including that of the fax and scanner), with all the sub-components doing their job very well (printer, scanner, fax, and copier).I know some have complained about the weight/quality of the paper tray(s) but unless you severely mistreat them mechanically, I doubt they will be a problem (I have had no issues or problems with the paper trays or handling). The other positive thing I found is that Epson handled my initial problem quickly and professionally and they immediately sent me a new machine. And one last comment: I'm using this product with an Apple iMac, running Mac OS X version 10.6.8. I assume it works just as well with a Windows computer...

I purchased this epson printer about two months ago. Right from the start the paper always jammed no matter what brand I used. Technicle suppor was no help, they told me I should not have that problem and offered no solution.after two months the screen indicator went blank. After hours of time on the phone they agreed to send me a used replacement. The used replacement came and did not function at all. The replace was quite dirty and scratched. I called tech support and they are sending another replacement. They refuse to send a new one only one of these abused machines they have from customers who have had problems before. They make it very difficult to get the replacement and make you pay for a new printer and reimburse you after you ship the old machine back. They make it almost impossible for you to follow there return policy. I have still not received my money back from the first replacement. In general the printer is hard to use. The wifi feature is very temperamental. Sometimes it works but mostly you have to be within a few feet of the printer to get it to work and it is very very slow. This is not a good product.

We bought this printer in February 2012. We have used it very little and most of our documents have been printed in black and white. Early in July 2012 we started getting splotches near/overlapping the edge of our document as if someone had spilled the light magenta ink on the document. Since it overlapped the edge, this means that it also leaked down into the printer This occured a few times and then quit occuring and started printing normally again, although our light magenta level ended up being less than half full after that even though just before it was nearly full. 2 weeks later this same thing occured and our light magenta is almost empty even though all of our other colors besides black are full.In calling support to see what can be done to alleviate the ink splotches from recurring they had us print/copy/etc. several documents until the ink quit producing splotches on the document again then told me to replace the light magenta since it was almost out. They suggested that the reason the light magenta was almost empty was that when I print black and white documents it uses a little of the colored ink as well. This would mean that I was imagining the big light magenta ink splotches and my black and white documents actually use the same amount of light magenta as black when printing black and white documents, but uses almost none of the other colors since they are still almost full, which is a ridiculous theory.I'll be replacing the ink cartridge though I shouldn't have to. I asked them what they would do if I called back with another empty light magenta ink cartridge and blotches on my documents once again and they said they would troubleshoot. They would never tell me that they will replace it so if this thing keeps running LM ink all over the place I expect to have to replace this myself. If this is the case I will never purchase another epson product.

Let's get the negative out of the way: Epson's ink is stupidly expensive and they really don't like you using non-OEM ink. There. Done. That's really the only negative thing I have to say about this excellent unit. The 837 set-up in a breeze. We have it networked to work with a netbook, three MacBooks, and a Mac tower. It works seamlessly with all of them. The scanning function/performance is on par with all of the major brand multifunction units (you're always going to get better scans with a dedicated unit than with a multifunction). It's nice to have a sheet fed scanner to augment my stand alone scanner for OCR work. The fax machine works just like a fax machine should. As a printer, it fits nicely into the Epson brand. I'm a big fan of Epson's printing products (with the exception of the disastrous R1800, which was both useless *and* expensive). I've used several different printer brands and my experience has been that Epson products produce the best color reproduction with the fewest problems.I've read a lot of reviews here endorsing HP products, but I've found the color matching and performance of HP's products to be utterly sub standard if you're looking to print high quality photographs. I abandoned their products years ago in exchange for Epson's far superior products. So, yes, you'll pay more for ink. If you are just looking for basic color prints and aren't anal retentive about quality, go for the HP and use off brand ink. If, however, you're a little obsessive about your images, you have to go with Epson. This unit is a great solution for anyone needing a multifunction unit instead of several stand alone units.

Set up was very easy (if I can do it anyone can)! I had no problems setting up the wireless printing and connecting all my computers with different operating systems to this printer. To be fair, I haven't tried all the features of this all-in-one. I really just needed a good solid printer. 4x6 photos seem to come out great but when I print 8x10's there seems to be some color loss of the blues and greens, the pics look kind of washed out and not vibrant. This printer doesn't have the "photo" black cartridge that my HP had and it makes a difference. I tweaked the color settings (had to adjust cyan and brightness all the way up to get close to the quality of my old HP Photosmart 7360 on factory default settings. It really prints well (if I wasn't comparing the prints to my HP prints I might not have noticed any quality issues) but if you are a photographer or want excellent photo quality on large prints you might not want this model.I loaded some paper, did a test print. All good. I printed a photo and it printed partly on one sheet and partly on another (very annoying when using photo paper). I hope this is not going to be an ongoing problem as it would mean I have to pull out the tray, load one sheet of paper, close the tray, pull out the upper tray that catches the finished print paper each time I print a page, then close the upper tray and pull out the bottom tray to load another sheet to print... If I am doing a lot of printing this could get old. The trays feel flimsy but seem to work adequately.I'll try to remember to follow up as I learn more about this printer...if I keep it.

Purchased this from another big-box electronics retailer and I have owned the Epson Artisan 800, 810, 837, C11CA52201 series All-In-One Printer for two years and because of; (1) the Artisan's inferior quality, (2) the Artisan's inferior internal parts design, and (3) Epson's Warranty Scam; never would I purchase anything made by Epson ever again. The primary failure of this printer is the plastic internal gears in the Epson Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) which is pure JUNK and will cause feeder jambs to haunt you for several days until it then stops feeding paper totally. When I called for service repair under the Epson Warranty, I was told that I will need to give Epson with my credit card information so Epson can charge me full the retail price of $299 so they could ship me a used "manufactured" printer as a replacement for my "NEW" broken printer. WHAT?At this very same time, Epson had the same "RE-MANUFACTURED" printer listed for sale on it's website for only $139, however, they wanted to charge my credit card $299, then ship me a used printer, and only after I shipped them the broken NEW printer would my credit card be refunded the $299. I refused to give them my credit card and demanded they replace my broken printer with a new printer under the warranty and Epson refused. The Epson warranty claim rep. directed my to their online warranty "FINE PRINT" that allows Epson to replace my defective NEW printer with a factory refurbished "USED" printer.EPSON WARRANTY is a scam and I urge you to seriously consider buying a printer from any other manufacture but Epson, unless you like getting scammed out of your hard earned money! NEVER will Epson scam me again because NEVER will I buy another of their worthless products.

I've never been fond of the all-in-one printers, mainly because I've had issues with them in the past (back in the HP days.) I've had experience with previous Epson models, and they've been amazing in terms of cost and quality and perfect for home use. With that being said, I have a high expectation for Epson products since they work well and perform great. This printer is no exception and is by far the best Epson printer I've owned.Setting up the printer was very easy: the worst part for me was getting it out of the box. The printer is well protected inside of the box to the point of feeling like it wasn't going to ever come out. The AIO took a few minutes to warm up after I inserted paper, the cartridges and removed all of the tape. Wireless was a snap. It detected my WPA2 network just fine and best of all, I didn't have to go digging around for an appropriate USB cable to set this printer up.Installing the printer software was just as easy on Windows 7 (32 bit). I did install the printer drivers on my Macbook running OS X Lion without any issues (I first checked the website for drivers and didn't use the included CD just in case since vendors seem to be iffy on Lion support.) Curiously, the installation software walked me through an updated firmware check and installation.B&W/color printing was pretty quick and clean on paper. Documents come out nice and crisp. The duplex printing was awesome (it's truly an added bonus!) What astonished me was the quality of printing on photo paper. It was nice to print out photos quickly, but for larger jobs I'd consider using another service. There's a MS/SD/xD card slot along with a CF card slot on the front of the unit. It won't read camera RAW files but reads JPGs just fine. There's also a USB port on the front and it will read off a flash drive or an external hard drive. That's pretty awesome.Scanning was easy and effortless over wireless. The document feeder worked with scanning a stack of bills I had. And scanning a few test photos I had was just was effortless and came out fine.I didn't really test the fax other than sending a fax to the office which does work. Although, I would have liked to have seen an e-fax service integrated with the Artisan 837 (although for the price, I'm not complaining - just wishing!) since faxing seems to have gone by the wayside. But for a small/home office, this is a nice bonus. The AIO also will do CD label printing. It's a neat feature but I honestly don't know how much I'd actually use it. What small feature I did use right off the bat is the free Epson iPrint app for the iPhone/iPad. This is a great app! I was able to print images I took along with documents from Dropbox that I had.Overall, the all-in-one is very slick. I'm not often impressed by all-in-one devices, but this Epson is flat out amazing. Easy to set up, easy to use and it'll make your life a lot easier.
