Edit - I dont know whats happened but wifi keeps going to sleep on these now preventing remote access. I have pi b+ and pi2 and the same happens on both (i have two of these edimax nano usb wifi adaptors - both do it). Essentially you are alright working from the pi itself but if you leave it running the adaptor goes to sleep so you cannot connect to the pi remotely from ssh or view any web pages running on apache. Unplugging it and putting it straight back in wakes it up as does using the pi directly. Trying the small configuration file from the raspi forums doesnt seem to work. Something about adaptor ,plusnet router or pi....

Connection speeds are just (but only just) noticeably slower than my wired connection when it comes to surfing and normal stuff.
If you want to stream TV or play online games I think I'd plug it in, and not expect connectivity miracles from a piece of hardware weighing only 2g!
I get the common and mysterious 'connection timed out' error on my Macbook Pro meaning I can't use Airport.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.4 meant the driver on my ASUS N10 no longer worked, and until now I'd not found a wireless adaptor that had an appropriate driver.
The mini-disc that comes with the Edimax doesn't fit into a Macbook CD drive, but the download instructions and software from the Edimax website are clear, easy to install and worked first time. No problems at all. The 10.8 driver is in Beta, but I've had no problems.
Edimax site drivers are here... http://www.edimax.us/html/english/frames/b-download.htm
All good!

I was amazed at how small and easy it was to setup the longest part of the process was enterering the wireless password, works great and saved me stripping the laptop to change the wireless card and cheaper. Very pleased.

I have repositioned the PC to reduce the distance to 6m and all is well. But my score reflects that the device has such a range limitation and would not suit a lot of static arrangements and would certainly not suit a laptop which is a shame as the size and small profile would be perfect for a laptop

Yes, it works but I am getting speeds of around 1-3mbps, my phone gets 34mbps in the same location. It is less than 10 feet from the router (with a floor in between). If the device you are using this on is sitting on top of your router it might be alright. If not - be prepared to make LOTS of cups of coffee whilst waiting for things to download.
Can't recommend :(

I can't say the install was easy, because the installation started ASAP off CD but so did windows installer. Another glitch was that I had to connect to the wifi outwith the installation because the installation refused to connect to wifi.
I don't like that I can't use Windows to connect but have to use the proprietary software; saying that, the software is much better and more informative.
I had hoped for more range. I had to reposition their router in order to get the best signal. But, that could be their router too, since the laptop sometimes struggles to maintain wifi. It's only been 2 days and no complaints yet.
This nano adaptor does what it says. My inlaws now have wifi to their old XP desktop. And, the price was right.

Pros -
Compact
Easy to install
Cheap
Cons -
Poor range (will show full signal but has no connection)
Very slow speed (if you get data transfer you are lucky)
Device turns itself off after a period of time (you have to restart the pc to get it working again)

shared the same chip and used the rt2x00 driver. Even with the latest firmware the operation was intermittent and it kept completely dropping signal.
On the other hand the Edimax EW-7811UN works with the rtl8192cu driver /lib/modules/3.14.0+/kernel/drivers/net/wireless and has been up and running for 3 days with only minor drops ( sometimes ping timesout but putty sessions remain if keepalives are configured in putty session ). So the Edimax EW-7811UN is the best WiFi Dongle I have come across for the RasPi do date.

Another benefit of the Edimax, is how small it is! I have a clear plastic case on my Pi, and this just sticks out a very small amount from the side.
If it had to give it a negative point, I would mention the signal strength. It isn't noticeably different to any other Wi-Fi enabled products I own, but the signal is slightly weaker than I get on my laptop. Which should be expected really. I doubt you will really notice though, unless you want to have your Pi far away from your router constantly... which I wouldn't recommend anyway.
Update 24/12/13: I'm not sure if it's a problem with Raspbian or something, but the adapter isn't functioning correctly and I cannot connect to Wi-Fi at all. I have contacted the seller to see if I can get a replacement.

The device is small and compact, not intruding on my laptop's use at all (other than occupying a USB port). It's also fast - currently operating at 150 Mbps; however this was not true to start with! When I first plugged it in, it was only operating at 75 Mbps. After extensive research on the internet and finding no answers, I noticed that the adapter was poised to use the 40hz band, but my router was only using the 20hz band. I changed this setting and it immediately jumped up to the 150!
It is well worth the money to solve the months of aggravation that I have been caused by Windows 8.1, and certainly far cheaper than having to purchase a new laptop, wireless card or operating system!

When I first set up the nano usb wireless adaptor, the signal strength was shockingly poor, with frequent loss of signal. I wrote to Amazon who authorised a return. But when I checked inSSID 2.0, I found that a nieghbour was using the same channels as my wireless router. So, I changed the channels, changed the location of my wireless router & now my laptop receives signals of 135mbps that are always strong. Fantastic!
This is very good piece of kit. I highly recommend it.
Furthermore, if you find you cannot avoid interference from other wireless routers, then I suggest you buy Devolo AVPLUS 200. I've also installed that & it works very well. It sends the signals via your electrical network in your home, from one socket to any another you decide to plug in to.
