This company hasn't updated the drivers for this device since 2009, and this adapter caused me no end of freezes, dropped connections and general frustration. Nothing helped cure the problem, and I tried everything short of flattening my system and re-installing Windows. Malware scans came back clean, and I erased/re-installed the software, reset my router, restarted the system repeatedly, and swapped out the adapter with another DWA-125 just to make sure the problem wasn't hardware-related.This adapter is orphaned. I repeat, the manufacturer is no longer maintaining it. If you're running a Windows 7 64-bit machine, save yourself some trouble and Google "Windows 7 Compatibility Center." It'll take you to Microsoft.com. Buy a USB adapter recommended by Microsoft, not this antique.

I purchased the DWA-160 to replace a DLink DWA 556 desktop adapter that failed after a couple of years. That unit worked great paired with my DLink DIR 655 router that I've used for years. The new DWA - 160 works fine if I move the desktop within a few feet of the router, but does not connect from the former position of the desktop. To test this problem I placed my HP laptop in front of the desktop now using this DWA - 160. The laptop shows 100% reception, where the DWA - 160 indicates 18% and keeps loosing conection. It's difficult to test other features of the adapter when it keeps loosing conection. I would not recommend this wireless adapter as it has a very poor reception range!

The wireless adapter working great. No drop connection. Even not in full signals, the download speed still very good and stable. I paid as low as $10 including shipping (a refurbished item). Low price great device.

I'll admit it - I have a picky system, running ye olde XP and for whatever reason, USB wifi adapters just don't play well with my setup. I've tried all the major brands and all of them lose network (connection, drivers gone, no power to the USB dongle) after anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. But this D-Link was different. Not only did it seem to work, but I got nine days of 24 hour uptime in both Windows and Linux. That is, nine days until it suddenly quit and went dead. I tried it on two other computers known to work well and... nothing. Dead as a door nail.So while I was happy with the connection speed & consistency, I was disappointed that it died so quickly.

This usb wireless adapter works great. It's a little fat and could easily take up the next available usb port if it wasn't for the fact that I have my wireless mouse reciever on that port. (it's small)The size doesn't bug me too much but what did was the trouble I had aquiring signal for the first time. It wouldn't connect no matter what I did. I followed the instructions on the trouble shooter in the disk and on the Windows trouble shooter. I couldn't make it connect! Finally after a while I aquired connection but I couldn't figure out why or how I aquired it. Maybe it takes a while for the drivers to be installed. I don't know. I do know however that I now have a solid and steady wireless network connection on the computer I built and no complaints so far. I also tried to install it on another computer that I own just to see if it responded the same and it aquired the connection on the first try. So I don't know what happened on the first computer. Works like a charm though, I would definitly recomend this product since I couldn't find any issues.

Not really happy with the quality of this wifi adapter. It really can't go through many walls and even after repositioning only gets me 5mb -15mb wifi connection on usb2.0. Will need to buy a router repeter to use this properly. The degraded signal just don't help either

I bought this for my teenage son when his integrated wifi quit. It arrived quickly but when I went to install the enclosed software, it was a blank disk. It was an easy enough fix to just download drivers from the web. I gave this 5 stars anyway because after a few weeks in the hands of a teenager it is now bent about 30 degrees upwards and still works perfectly. A good buy.

I recently benchmarked this D-Link against a generic Monoprice 802.11n adapter and an even more generic Chinese 'Leolink'. The router is an Asus RT-N16 with a TomatoUSB firmware. I positioned each adapter two feet away with direct line of sight.20 MHz single-channel 2.4 GHz:* D-Link 30 Mbps* Monoprice 17 Mbps* Leolink 1 Mbps40 MHz dual-channel 2.4 GHz:* D-Link 44 Mbps* Monoprice 26 Mbps* Leolink 1 MbpsClearly, the Leolink is garbage and the D-Link has some internal pixie dust that the cheaper Monoprice adapter doesn't. Also in D-Link's favor, the included mini-stand keeps it up from behind tower computers, improving signal strength. I don't have any trouble with it fifty feet from my router. Connected speed alternates between 135 Mbps and 150 Mbps, about what it does from three feet.Because I use the D-Link for an HTPC in a dark room, the orange traffic light is too distracting, so I covered it with electric tape. That's not why I'm docking a star, though. The benchmarks at SmallBusinessNet suggest that this router should be capable of at least another 30 Mbps, so I question whether this adapter is extracting the maximum it could.

Under windows 7-32 bit I didn't need any drivers at all just plugged it in and Windows installed everything and I even connected a bluetooth GPS receiver to it and got its own Virtual com port assigned to it through the device manager.

Connection is solid. No complaints. It's larger than usb plugs and thumb drives but it would only block the other usb plug on the front of my computer if I tried to plug in something of the same width, but mouse plugs, etc would have not have any problems plugging in most usb devices.

I bought two of these together with a D-Link DIR-825 Extreme-N Dual-Band Gigabit Router.I decided to upgrade my old Wireless G network to the updated N.The G was working good, but every now and again it would become congested and had to reboot the router.This was the reason for the upgrade!You see I am now entering into the world of streaming media (DLNA).I am running Mezzmo on two home desktop computers and stream content to my Sony PlayStation 3.Also I watch downloaded content and access my vast collection of music over the network with different clients.They both work very good on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks, I minus one star because I got the older A2 hardware versions and I know for a fact there is a revision B (on D-Link's website there are actually different drivers for the both revisions). I do not know if the newer version will perform better. These sellers should list this information on the product page.Great Buy, buy be warned of the hardware version!

I bought this adapter at Office Depot ($34.95) two days ago after my Linksys G Adapter went out (worked well for years, no problem, stopped working while I was out of town and crashed my system - 3 hours on the phone with Dell Tech support which got me ABSOLUTELY nowhere - and I like Dell but was pretty fed up with them when I fixed the crashed disk problem myself by just putting the boot CD's into the drive and realized what the problem was all on my own).I'm running on Windows XP Home service pack 2 and a Linksys wireless router. First Dlink rep in support could not get it to install and blamed Norton and McAfee programs for preventing it from working (I've never subscribed to either, I use Malware Bytes - worth it's weight in gold) Support could/would not assist with removing the virus protection programs so I uninstalled them myself using the add/remove programs in the control panel, then tried to reinstall the adapter and drivers on my own. No luck. This is suppose to work in either G or N mode - I suspect it really isn't G mode compatible.I called tech support back and got a slightly more knowledgeable person who ran me through a more detailed diagnostic and determined that a different driver, not on the packaged install disk, was needed for my OS configuration. He was suppose to email it to me but the email never came. I called again, got another tech support person who showed me how to download it off their internet site directly but I didn't have a working thumb drive so off to Walmart for a quick 2G thumb drive, down loaded the updated driver over the internet and upload it on to the desktop machine. Unzipped and install the correct driver on the target machine. Still no luck. But on a reboot it did at least acknowledge a wireless connection (not connected, but at least recognized the device for the first time).Called support AGAIN, got a guy who I'm not sure was totally aware of the issues and he recommended that I return the device to Office Depot. No reason given, just suggested I return it.Not wanting to give up (or get into my car and drive to OD and return an item and start this process over), I went out on my own. Unplugged, replugged the adapter, the the device bubble at the bottom, got the "unknown device" read from the Windows network set up wizard which said that it "malfunctioned" and Window's did not recognize it. It is possible (this computer was built in 2006)that the USB port type is older (G vs. N - whatever that means) and doesn't support the speed for this adapter. Although it's marketed as being compatible with both, in my case it clearly was not.Ultimately I didn't want to work so hard to connect a device that might not reconnect again later, so ultimately I took it back to OD. I got my $ back. But D-Link spent who knows how much time on the phone with me and got net negative revenue. They over marketed capabilities and under delivered - not the first firm to do so but they aren't informing their information share about the incompatibility so that they can identify the impasse in an efficient manner and cut their losses. This is an operational drain on the company. I would sell their stock if I had any.

At first I was a bit hesitant to purchase this product when I read the review here that the DWA-125 has trouble working under XP, as all my other computers/laptops running Vista or Win 7 all have built-in 802.11n capabilities already. The sole reason for this dongle is to use it with an old laptop running Windows XP SP2, that I have kept as my "XP" computer (I have some old software I still occasionally use that's not ported to the Vista or Win 7); but I decided to give it try anyway, and I am glad I did.The installation process was very smooth on my XP SP2 laptop, and it works flawlessly with the SMC wireless n AP (an SMCWBR14S-N4, also purchased from Amazon). When set to n-only mode, by running speed tests on dslreports site, it shows the DWA-125/SMC combo is actually faster than my wired Fast Ethernet (100mbps) connections (as it should be). It runs at 135mbps when it's on the other side of the wall from the router/access point, and fluctuates between 108mbps and 135mbps when it's situated two rooms over and one floor down from the router/access point. Despite the fact the DWA-125 only supports up to 150mbps, it's not going to be the bottleneck on my home network since it's already faster (test results proves that) than my wired Ethernet connections.For the price I paid ([...]w/ free shipping) and the fact it comes with the USB extension cable/stand, this is an excellent buy!A side note: the USB extension cable/stand may not be that useful for laptop applications, but if you are shopping for a wireless n dongle for your desktop or a media player that sits in a cabinet/shelf full of other A/V components, the extension cable/stand may come in handy. The cases of desktop computers, and that of many home audio/video equipment such as an AVR or DVD/Blu-Ray player, are made of sheet metal to absorb and prevent interference from electromagnetic signals. So if you have the dongle in one of the USB ports in the back of your desktop computer, or if the dongle is sitting beneath a piece of video/audio equipment, the reception is going to be poor, simply because the sheet metal "blocks" most of the RF signals. With the extension cable/stand, you can place the dongle where its reception/transmission is not blocked by the computer or A/V equipment.

The hardware revision B2 is not supported by AirMagnet in a Windows 7x64 environment. The only one that is supported is the revision A1-A2.Take this into account when looking for an inexpensive adapter to use with said software.

The product was good. It had a pretty good connect. I owned a Netgear router and connected to it with this. Although it was a pretty distant connection it did perform very well. However after I owned it for about a year now. It is broken and won't even light up when you plug it it. So I think it will lasts a while. But depending on what you're looking for. Maybe find something else.

A very easy to install product. Just disable your previous wireless hardware, and install the drivers from the disk. So far it has been very reliable, no problems at all. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because I thought it would increase the range I could move from the router. But it is no different than any of my other laptops, without the dwa-125. Which was kind of disappointing, as this was designed for my D-link 601 router.

The item description does not mention that this DWA-160 USB adapter is the previous hardware revision, Revision A (shows H/W Ver. A2 on the package that I just received). The current/recent hardware version for this adapter is Revision B (the package that I saved from an earlier purchase by a relative showed H/W Ver. B1). Fortunately, I had that package on hand from the earlier purchase for comparison.Make sure that you inquire about the hardware revision for this USB wireless adapter before you order this item.

I have just a friendly warning to all potential buyers of D-Link DWA-160 adapter. Not all D-Link DWA-160 adapters work with Win7: Only the latest ones with F/W firmware version 1.60 or 1.80 may work (see D-Link hereby). I have heard you also need H/W Hardware version B (not A) as well. D-Link (DWA-160) and Linsys Sysco (AE1000, AE2500) always say their products work with Win7 but it is not true. Hardware is easy to install. It is much simpler than opening the CPU to install a wireless card. Network setup is very easy (I have a mixed network of Vista, Windows XP and Windows 7, and a D-Link N router).

Ordered item because my laptop died and my old desktop had no internet connection and no way to talk to my Wi-Fi printer. Paid the extra for overnight shipping. Received the adapter the next Morning, opened box, followed the quick directions and desktop was alive and well and connected to internet and printer. Total time from receipt of package to up and running was 15 minutes. Product works beautifully. Good combination of good product and efficient shipping (absolutely no shipping damage). Recommend this product to others, assuming the speed is acceptable for your application.

I bought this adapter for one reason - I have an original Playstation3, which uses a wired connection for internet access and I wanted to make it a wireless console. This small adapter did the trick - I opened this package, popped the adapter into one of the front USB ports and turned on the PS3. A few quick set-up steps on the menu, we entered our code for the DirectTV wireless internet connection and voila!! We were online in less than five minutes! Exactly what I was looking for! Great item!

A USB Adapter has one job - connect a computer to the network through a USB connection. I never got this up and running - D-Link Tech support said that it was DOA. I got a NetGear one and it worked right out of the box. A commendation to the Seller, Sebastian Saa at DirectDeals4U, who, with a little prodding took the defective unit back for a refund even though it was past the thirty day return policy of DirectDeals4U (we had tried to return it prior to the 30 days but never got a response from the Seller until after the thirty days had expired). So, bottom line, a certain number of products on the manufacturing line are defective -- it's inevitable. I have had three D-Link products fail in this one year, so it seems as if I am either unlucky or they are having some quality control issues. Excellent customer support, however . . .

Either the product itself does not work, or this particular one does not work for Pc. I have done a good bit of research on the item- apparently, it IS compatible with both mac and Pc, but, the pc one needs the cd. I have tried to downloaded the drivers myself via their website, but it then requires a product key. The seller did not send me any of this- which is why i think it may have previously been used for a Mac, since macs don't require the cd.

Just stopped working one day...no surges, problems...just died after 22 months. Called DLINK...said tough luck we can't help you. Buy crappy products and you get crappy service. Will stick with Belkin...they back up what they sell.

Works perfectly. Have taken the laptop to other places and the software immediately recognized and asked to log it on the wireless network available. I wish it were not so big. It's kinda bulky sticking out of a USB port. Especially on a crowded restaurant table. But functionality? Perfect.

This was purchased mainly so I can run my desktop computer wireless. I never picked up a wireless networking card as I felt it wasn't necessary,plus with the size of the motherboard itslf along with all that was installed on it, I wouldn't have the room for it. Figured a USB model should suffice. Will say that I am happy with the adapter. My computer is setup more than 30 feet away from the modem itself so the signal does pick up. Not too crazy about the range of it however-I get two maybe three bars at best though the modem is only two rooms away-Yet this is what I get for buying an adapter for G-networks instead of N-networks. I'm sure the N-network version of this would've gained a better signal, yet I read too many bad reviews on it so I chose this one. What I paid to get the adapter didn't brake my pockets at all(under $15.00) so in no way was this a total disappointment. I just should've shopped around a lil more for a stonger adapter, that's all. Good puchase though.

I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista and the internal WiFi antenna finally failed on me after many years of service. I didn't want to buy another laptop since I wasn't ready to upgrade yet. So when I came across this adapter and after reading all the reviews, I had to buy it. And am I glad I did. The installation was easy... pop in the CD, load the software drivers, plug in the device, and enter configuration settings. Within minutes, my laptop was connected to my Motorola wireless router and I was surfing the internet again. The location of my laptop is on the second floor, towards the front of my house, while the wireless router is located on the first floor in the rear of the house. The signal strength was only 41% (2 out of 4 bars). But I was still impressed with the performance. I was able to stream videos with no buffering. Thank you D-link for making a great product. It saved me money from buying a new laptop.Update [6/11/2011]: Just found out that the device failed. So my original 5-star rating has now dropped to a 2-star. I just wished D-link had better quality control. It's a little annoying. Now I have to find another adapter.

I just purchased this and it came in the mail quickly. I got the refurbished one and it hooked up with ease and works great! Only paid 7$ plus shipping, would recommend to anyone, it even comes with a 30 day warranty, great for a refurbished item, especially when anything comparable goes for like 40 bucks.

I have been looking for a solid performing N adapter. My office PC in 2 floors away from my Netgear Access Point. Interestingly, most laptops with built in adapters work just fine (4 out of 5 bars on windows 7). However, I have tried various repeaters and adapters and nothing is better than my old Linksys W300N which only gets 2 bars.The Dlink looked promising based on the reviews but alas it barely got 1 bar and could not stay connected. It was easy to setup but connection quality was terrible. It was not much better on a desktop 1 room away from the access point. I was surprised based on what I had read. I tried tweaking some of the settings but nothing achieved more than 1 bar.

The adapter works fine with the dual band router.The one problem with the sale is the product was sold as NEW.The box arrived with NO cellophane wrapping. A NEW product should be as sold off the shelf. Makes me wonder if it was NEW!!!!

I had been having problems with the wireless connection on my laptop and purchased this to go along with my D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Gigabit Wireless Router. When it arrived I installed it and it worked great for about half an hour. After that it was just taking a dump like the laptop itself. I called D-Link support and they had me change some settings on my router (which really screwed up my whole network) and re-install the DWA-125. They had me mess with settings on my laptop and a few other options. I feel the support was really lacking in the fact that even though I had an open ticket they had me do all the same steps again each time I spoke with them. I was supposed to get a call back from a second level technician once, but they didn't call back till after 10pm and I missed the call, which left me just getting whoever when I called back. Finally after a week they told me I should return it to the people I purchased it from because it seemed to be faulty. Then they left me with the advise that I should try the D-Link DWA-160 Xtreme N Duo Dual Band Draft 802.11n USB Adapter "... because it is more compatible with the the DIR-655 router". I truelly enjoy my D-Link products and feel they are far superior to any other networking device on the market, but this product and the support I got with it left me feeling flat.

Works as advertised. Installed on Gateway PC computer running Windows Vista Home Premium (I know, I know, will soon be upgrading to Windows 7). It took less than 10 minutes to install drivers and I was up and running in less than 15 minutes. Fully recommend. So far, more than a week and no glitches whatsoever. Five stars!
