Bought this product a few weeks ago. Works as advertised. Speed is steady and it seems to consistently receive a very good signal from my linksys router, even though its in my living room while the router is in my bedroom closet. D-Link is a brand that is well known for its quality and they have not failed me in this regard. Also the price was excellent as well.

My computer was crashing because of an obsolete driver for my old D-Link Wireless Adapter. The D-Link DWA-160 wireless adapter works very well and my system is stable again. Problem solved.

HW version A2, FW version 1.40.Linux Compatibility: Eventually worked in Fedora 12 with minor work. Had to add the PCI ID to the ar9170usb kernel module (and recompile) and place the firmware in /lib/firmware. Should work out of the box on kernel versions >=2.6.32.Performance of this device was terrible at 5GHz. Maximum throughput achieved was 1.3MB/s. Tests with other 802.11n devices (laptop with Intel 5100AGN and Apple Airport Express as a bridge) achieved over 4.0MB/s. Unusable for streaming HD video.

I bought this for a WD TV Live Media Player wireless connctn and it started to stream right away after entering the router's security keys; I didn't have to do anything else.Turned the player on; when I saw it was ready I plugged the stick in and the rest you have to go by the WD plyr instructions.Thanks D-Link & Amazon for such a good price.

I brought this (revision A) on the second of June 2009 and installed it onto a 32 bit Vista system. 100% strength (access point is about 15 metres downstairs) until I turned off my computer. This driver would not release itself and disengage causing Vista not to shut down unless I physically turned of the computer. I had to roll back the Operating System to when it was working and install again. Now when Vista asks it to close, it does release itself normally but D-Link support was not any help, I had to find the solution of my own. It was probably a bad install with a conflict of the driver and some other program on my system such as Norton Internet Security or Win Dog Watch patrol, however, the program should have alerted to such conflict.UPDATE:17-MAY-2012Built my own PC using windows 7. checked Microsoft compatibility test and this is not compatible. tested it out and it would disconnect at first. Week later I have multiple BSODs (blue scree of death). (do not know if this is responsible, dump file points to NTKRNLMP.EXE. I could use the driver in XP mode (I know Win7 has that options with programs though this is a driver). Will uninstall after I get a .exe file for Linksys WUSB300N which according to Microsoft compatibility site is Win. 7 64 & 32 bit compatible and see what happens. D-Link, unlike Linksys, did not bother to write a driver program for Windows 7 at all.

Hardware is easy to install. It is much simpler than opening the CPU to install a wireless card. Network setup is very easy (I have a mixed network of Vista, Windows XP and Windows 7, and a D-Link N router).

Don't know which one Amazon has but the one I got is Rev A. Followed onscreen instruction as installation guide said. Initially it could not find the SSID even when told (mine is hidden). I also downloaded the latest drivers from the D-Link website. Finally, I went to the Connection Manager and clicked on "MY WIRELESS NETWORKS", then clicked on New, then put in the Profile Name, SSID, etc. It came right up. It's still not visible in the Connection Manager list. However, it is visible in the upper part of the Connection Manager GUI. I am running Windows 7 RTM (32 bit). The NIC is running at 270 Mbps (bits not bytes) with no perceptible dropouts. So only two stars for having an annoying installation but definitely a worthwhile investment. I absolutely LOVE the weighted extension cord/mount.

I connected it and Windows 7 installed the drivers automatically. I'm using a Linksys 802.11g router. I have had it for about three weeks and haven't had a problem, nor do I expect to have one.

Bought it, put in the CD, plugged it in, and a few clicks later connected to my Linksys DSL router, faster than my wife's laptop. I'm not very computer-literate and was expecting a hassle. Didn't happen. Worth every penny.

I picked up this adapter at the suggestion of an employee who worked at the store I was looking for an adapter for. He said it worked for G and N routers and that he used it and worked great. So I picked it up (good price) and installed the software, plugged it into my computer and the internet was up and running in minutes. Such an easy setup. Internet works great, when I play games online theres no lag, and streaming videos is moderately quick.I definitely recommend this adapter its wonderful.

I love this wireless USB adapter. The installation was simple and fast. I am using it on a home network with a Western Digital Live TV box. For some reason it works best for me with the short (comes with the unit) USB cable and base.

Gets 300Mbps, but the WinXP driver will crash if you attempt to drive it at 300Mbps for more than a few minutes (i.e. backing up your hard drive). Driver sometimes crashes anyway just for the heck of it. Orange transmit light is VERY bright, and it needs a setting to disable it. Seems to prefer a vertical orientation to get the most stable connections. Works either with its own config program or windows wireless zero config program just fine. Slightly chunky, and will likely cover the USB slot next to it, whether above/below or next to it.

Don't listen to the negative reviews, this item took me all of 10 mins to setup and connect to my network. Keep in mind that this 10 minute time frame included the time that it took to open the box and unpack the item. This item was easy to install and once it was installed it quickly found my network. If you are worried about speed, worry no longer, I have a 20Mbps wireless network in my home and my computer is all the way on the other side of my house, in the basement no less and I still was able to get 19.8Mbps internet speed after running a speed-test. Don't listen to the doubters, this item is a home run, and if you are having trouble installing it or getting it to connect to your network, call someone for help since you must not know what you are doing.Sorry if that sounds harsh, but that is just the truth.

I had to call tech support to install. They were really patient. I had just installed a new router and had less trouble with that then this adapter. I am happy with the speed and so far it seems reliable.

Bought this to replace a Linksys connection which was hit and miss. The setup was very easy, but the connection was weak and at times would not connect at all. The room where we set this up is only 25 feet from the router with no walls between. I sent this item back, very disappointed with connection.

This usb adapter connects in a minute and picks up network connection well. Works perfect with Windows 7. Highly recommend it. Worth every penny.

When I use it at home with my N gigabit connection works great. At work there is only a G connection and my internal card works just as well if not better sometimes. Thats my only complaint, everything else works great. I bought the refurb, so it was a great price.

The performance said by the ad is completely a lie. My old 802.11g is faster than it . Also the signal strength is horribly low. Only recommending this product to people who have PC with version of WIFI before 802.11g.

Like most DIYers and pseudo-geeks, I've learned that all "quick upgrades" are really Trojan horses; nervous breakdowns in a box. Days later and exhausted on the floor from error messages, tech guys with foreign accents saying that rebooting will fix everything after a 2 hour wait on a telephone cue before your call gets cut off mysteriously. So I usually take a week off, put on a sweat band and have sedatives in reach. I did due diligence and found this product to have relatively good reviews so picked it up. (Sorry Amazon, this one time Best Buy actually had a better price!) My home network connects a Tivo, SlingBox, Vista Laptop, voip telephone, all-in-one printer via an Apple Airport Extreme hub. This D-Link was to try to cut the wires on my XP desktop to distance the spaghetti of wires from external hard drives etc. and a tethered printer. OK, those details aside, I installed the drivers via the supplied CD, chose the "manual" installation choice, typed in the name of my network and security password....."great Scott, Marty"....it was on line in an instant! OK, this should be the norm in installing things. But we all know when it does happen, shock and awe wash over us like the "08" Beijing Olympics opening ceremony. My chin is back off the floor and life is returning to normal. What to do with all the time I cleared to do this? Maybe go to the beach. Oh wait, hurricane Ike will be here tomorrow. Well, I'll savor the moment and hope my house doesn't blow away and take my network with it. Highly recommended.

Annoying, purchased after acquiring a DLINK DIR-825 with the intention to move to a full 802.11n network. Easily installed drivers and Vista x64 worked with no crashes... But every 60 seconds of connectivity there is a large lag of 2-4 seconds of non-responsiveness when on either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands (and same on Vista64 and Windows XP). I thought it was the router, but changed it out with another companies 802.11n router and the network connection still exhibits the lag. So no gaming and no streaming media over the 802.11n adapter.Openned tickets with DLINK and have either 'move your router' response (when I thought the DIR-825 router was the issue, and not very helpful when I explicitly said the router and adapter where in line of site less then 10ft apart) with no followup to my reply or no response what-so-ever (when I opened a trouble ticket specifically about the DWA-160). Poor DLink, poor product.Wish I could return both of the DWA-160's...

This worked like a DREAM for a few months- skype so clear it was like watching a movie. Downloading large files in seconds! And then it stopped working one day. Now it's a paper weight.

I purchased this and the DAP-1522 in order to get better wireless speeds at my home. And had no luck. A few hours of pounding on it myself, then with Dlink support, and the combination of these two products got me a best file transfer speed of a whopping 750k. A mere fraction of even my 802.11g network speeds. Nothing I did could get it to connect at anything near an acceptable speed for even 802.11b, let alone G or N.Physical placement of either this or the access point made no difference. Returned, will look for something from another manufacturer.

I brought this adaptor in October and it has been nothing but garbage. I literaly have my router (DIR-855) in next room about 20' away I live in a two bedroom ranch one level and I hardly get signal above 50% (mostly 20 - 30%) on 2.4ghz and 5% or less on 5ghz band. I constantly get disconnected from router because of signal loss. The adaptor just up and died yesterday. I got to admit I have tried Linksys (WRT-610) and D-Link (DIR-855) dual band routers and their performance is highly overrated. I am a proficent pc user/tech. They need to go back to the drawing board and redesign. Save your money if you want a good router get the D-Link (DGL-4500) not a true dual band but works well (had 100 - 98% signal) I had one and returned it figuring it would be great,(not) so I got this pile of heaping garbage. I brought both items here thru Amazon big mistake I am stuck with this garbage and out alot of money. I will be returning the adaptor for a new one to replace dead one.PatrickToms River, NJ

Out of the box the DWA-160 isn't a nice experience.I can only get decent speeds (50 Mbit/s or so) if I have the router (DIR-855) within direct sight and is less than 6 metres from it.The router measures 98 Mbit/s out its switch sockets so I have ample WAM/LAN capacity.Farther distance or the slightest obstruction of view the speed drops to G speeds (20 Mbit/s) and the whole point of an expensive upgrade to Wireless-N is lost.I need to find out if there is a way to increase transmit power on the router to accomodate the DWA-160 or if some tweaks can be made in other ways. Else I will be returning this product.D-Link DWA-160 Xtreme N Duo Dualband Draft 802.11n USB AdapterI am surprised DLINK have released this product given its apparent reception problem. It risks to endanger the reputation of their DIR- gigabit routers as well which are supposed to be the ideal combo.

I bought this adapter (Rev. B1) because I was only getting 65 Mbps on my Acer 8930 laptop (Vista Home Premium 64 bit) with my Intel 5100 Wireless Card a/g/n via my Netgear WNR2000 N Router. Installation was simple and only took a few minutes. I discarded the CD and loaded firmware 2.2 from D-Links site. I then was prompted to insert the adapter into a USB port. After a couple of minutes, I was prompted to enter my SSID and Password. Bingo. Now I get a consistent 270 Mbps, with a very strong signal.D-Link would like you to think that you only get the fastest wireless speeds if you use this adapter with one of their Routers. But I found that this adapter works great with my Netgear WNR2000 Router.Make sure you get the Rev. B1 model (not Rev. A1)

See my review for DWA-140. I compared DWA-160 with DWA-160, DWA-552, and WUSB300N. The result is DWA-160 > WUSB300N > DWA-140 > DWA-552. Though, the price, close to $70, is a bit high.

Great product. I have a HTPC running Wingows Vista Ultimate 64-bit that I needed a wireless network connection. You can forget about finding any internal wireless adapter cards that will work with the 64-bit versions of Windows. This USB adapter works great. It has no conflicts with the 64-bit operating system and is fast enough to run DVD quality video from my main computer and plays streaming video from Netflix with no problems.To get the fast speed of the 802.11n band you must also have an 802.11n band wireless router. My router is the D-Link DIR-655.My HTPC has an Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor with 4GB RAM.

Ignore the earlier post about this adapter not working well with Vista. Dlink now supplies Rev B hardware which is Vista Certified. I got mine from local store in July and all parts should be Rev B (Ralink chipset) moving forward.I have a great connection through two walls and quite far from my router. If you have a bad router than this adapter isn't going to fix it.Make sure you use the drivers from Ralink, they write the drivers and have most up to date code. Uninstall the older Dlink drivers first and download Ralink drivers here: http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support.html

It's been about a month since I have been using the DWA-160. I am pleased with it's performance. I really like the USB capability. I can run it on my desktop or use it on my laptop. I also like the included USB adapter. It makes placement flexable. Overall a great product.
