I'll begin by saying that going to 8 ports was a very, very smart plan on D-Link's part. This is the first 8 port wireless router I have come across (not that I've been looking since I was using a Netgear just fine) and with all the extra network hookups these days (the X-Box, TV, BluRay player) it seemed like a godsent.I'm not a software installer, so I went through this without the CD, first by shutting off the PC and all devices that would be associated with the router, and then powering off the cable modem. I got everything hooked up, turned on the modem... It's running. Turned on the router... It's running. Started up the PC... We have internet! I will say I've never gone through such an easy installation, even with the Netgear, in my life. That was a definite plus. The wireless is something else, though. I setup the SSID and made sure it was broadcast, securing it with WPA. I attempted to sign my Android device on wirelessly and it can't be seen. After 10 minutes of configuring I finally gave up for a bit. After coming back to it, suddenly the SSID had appeared. O_o Whatever, at least I could connect now.Another issue I am having with this router (might not be the router, but coincidentally it began as I started using it) is my connectivity to Netflix and Hulu+ have been compromised on my BluRay. I never have had issues with the Netgear, but it seems like I am having to restart shows constantly, and the BluRay is always giving me a Network Error. I may end up switching back to the Netgear to see if the D-Link really is the problem here. I hope not, because it's smaller than the Netgear and doesn't have so many distracting lights.UPDATE 3/17/11I've had to write D-Link letting them know that the router drops the wireless connection every day and that the only way to get it back is to reboot the router... EVERY. DAY. D-Link wrote me back with some nonsense troubleshooting as if the router had gone completely down, when in fact it's only the wireless I'm having trouble with. We will see how they resolve this issue, but at the moment I am not happy and have dropped the rating from 4 stars to 2 because of this.UPDATE 11/18/11I can't stand it anymore! I've ordered a router that's proven to work and dropped this one to 1 star. Sometimes the wireless drops out on it as soon as 3 minutes, now, but it does it at least twice a day, considering you've reset the router. I can't wait to take it outside with a sledge hammer. I wouldn't wish this router upon my worst enemy.

I traded in my linksys router in order to run my own cat 5 cable to all my rooms. I was excited at first by many of the features, it automatically detected my XBox 360 giving it the correct NAT configuration. Additionally I was able to assign ip addresses so I could alwasy rely on my computers having the same ip. The firewall setup is somewhat confusing, but I found if port forwarding didn't work the virtual server option did. Unlike my previous linksys router I was excited to see I could use the router to keep from reaching certain sites (in order to block certain programs from reaching update servers) although the amount of addresses I could place in was quite limited. Additionally it was truly nice to back up all my computers at 100Mbits. But now that I have a new computer I am sorry I didn't wait and get a router with Gigabit ports. I dont' use the usb port, and seems pointless as I typically plug my extra hard drives and printers into my old tower where I have infinitely more control how these devices are accessed. Finally though is my huge recommendation against this product. It appears to be a roll of the dice, but many of these routers suffer from an unrepairable problem where the connection is constantly reset. There is no firmware upgrade or settings modification to fix this. Very few of the pages I have load completely, and downloading large files is impossible. This isn't just a wireless or wired problem. As this occurs with all my connections.Next time I'll stick to the linksys brand routers. Cisco (the maker of linksys) is routers seem to be the most highly recommend from the network administrator forums

I've had this one installed and running for about a week now. I had no problems configuring it, no problems at all so far. The unit that I got was actualy a RevB model and I did have to update the firmware, that all went smooooothly. I have 2 other DIR-655 running for a few years now, Have had problems with only 1 that crashed. This is my first refurb Wireless router and my previous experience with refurbs is that if they work from the get go, there probably going to work for a while. Only one disclamier I'm only using this one as a Wireless entry point, and for the GB hub, a Direct TV unit and a TV Monitor are connected to my network. I also use it as wireless to download and back up my Cell phones to and from the Cloud at night while there charging.

I bought this as a back-up to my Netgear ProSafe. Eight ports for me are a must as I have four desktop computers and three printers that use wired connections. I also have one computer that uses wireless. The day came when my ProSafe gave up the ghost, so I unpacked this D-Link router and hooked it up. At first, I was very happy with it. I basically plugged it in, made my hub connections, and accessed the router to set up our Internet (we have a static IP) and the wireless. Everything worked great, but less than 24 hours later, the wireless stopped working. The SSID did not even appear in the list of wireless networks. I went back into the router and set the wireless option to mixed b and g, instead of mixed b, g and n. This made the difference. The SSID came up with a good, strong signal, and has been up for a couple of days now. Am going to order another ProSafe as my back-up router.

I TOTALLY WASTED 9+ hours trying to get this to work, in either Router or Access Point mode, with deteriorating success. I am not a novice and have configured many routers and access points from other vendors without any prior trouble. This would not reliably connect to the devices, even after multiple factory resets and reconfigurations. It finally reached the point that it would not connect at all. This one is on its way back for a refund!

I've been struggling with this device for a few months, even doing the RMA process once. The problems continued with the wi-fi SSID disappearing ,then the entire router also dropping. I have now re-flashed the router with the dd-wrt firmware. This was extremely easy, with only a few steps. Since then, it has been very reliable and now I can recommmend this router. I love having eight ports plus wireless. I still do not have a strong enough signal for this very large house, and i'm looking for some directional antennas to replace the stock ones.

I had to contact tech support after a few failed self-attempts, which resulted in nothing more than reminding me just how much I don't like messing w/ this stuff. The install process hung up on step 3/6 (repeatedly)...I replaced a linksys, and using cable modem. Tech Support answered quickly (within 10 seconds easy) and were very helpful. My signal is now stronger throughout the entire home (2840 sq feet 1 story), even at its furthest point. Overall I am very satisfied.

I'll start by saying that I have several Windows 7 and several Mac PCs in the house. I had been using a Westell wireless modem/router provided by Frontier DSL (Formerly Verizon DSL in Washington State). The Westell was starting to have problems with one of my Macs (The IP Address kept dropping or some such thing) so I needed a new router. The Quick Start Guide that comes with this D-Link router tells you all you need to know for what is truly a very simple set up process. I simply installed the CD ROM into one of my Windows machines, followed the prompts and, voila!, my new network was up and running. One terrific benefit to this router that, as of the date of this review, no one has mentioned, is that you have the option of using it as a stand alone router OR IN ADDITION TO your existing router/modem. This latter option provides the user with the addition of even more Ethernet ports because they can use the eight with the D-Link and all but one of the ones on the old router. Note: One of the ports on the old router will need to be used to connect it to the new D-Link. It's also important to note that this is just a router. It does not have a modem so if your existing setup was like mine, with a router/modem, then, assuming there's nothing wrong with your existing modem, you will likely want to ADD this in the same manner that I did.Of course, if all you need are additional Ethernet ports your money will be much better spent on something like TRENDnet 8-Port Unmanaged Gigabit GREENnet Standard Switch (8 x 10/100/1000Mbps Auto-Negotiation, Auto-MDIX Gigabit Ethernet Ports) TEG-S80G (Black Metal). This piece of equipment will provide you with a hub to plug into your existing router.I've noticed some reviewers have had issues with Mac. I had none whatsoever. If you only have Mac and no Windows then there's a manual set up process in the Quick Start Guide. If you have both Windows and Mac PCs, I recommend your first set up be with a Windows PC. When you're finished with the Windows set up you'll have all the information you need to just go to your Airport Icon and Join your new network.I've only used the new network for a couple of days. If I experience any problems, I'll come back and revise my review accordingly.Update: After three months of use this baby's working like a charm. Not a single issue. I am very happy with this product.Update # 2: 5/6/2011 Not a single problem. Great set up

I own an iMac, which is located about 350 feet from the wifi base. The room where the iMac is located is in the back of my apartment and only used to get a couple of bars of wifi reception, which was also rather spotty. I tried several wifi signal boosters (and returned them all) until I got this one. When I first read the installation manual, I thought I had another failed attempt in my hands. I called customer service and got a customer representative from India. Although she had an outdated support screen on her computer (I could tell because while she was reading her screen she was not seeing the same information I had on mine during the installation process) she was able to help me and get the D-Link Wi-Fi booster installed within 15 minutes. Once installed, the reception immediately improved to full 5 bars and I no longer had the frequent wi-fi service drops I was experiencing before this product was installed. I would highly recommend this product, but the company should most definitely make sure that its installation/documentation instructions be more user friendly.

PROS:Easy setup that is somewhat secureSignal strength seemed betterN was fasterCONS:Would have like a more comprehensive setup by defaultComputer had problems reconnecting after a reboot of the router (probably a Windows problem).Couldn't figure out the 5Ghz band not getting good signal strength.First off I am by no means a networking expert. I have a small network at home that includes 3 PCs/Laptops, a Wii, PS3, NAS, Printer, and DishNetwork DVR box. So in all 8 devices that connect on a regular basis. Since the DVR box is downstairs and I don't have it connected via cable, I bought a repeater that hooks up to the network wirelessly, and then shares that connection over a wire to the DVR. Ok now that you see the extent of my network, here is what I thought of the D-Link DIR825.The Setup was pretty fast and simple. I plugged in the wire that was provided to the router from there to my computer, and plugged in the cable modem. I then used the disk that was provided to run through the initial setup of the router. It went pretty quickly, though there were a few oddities. First off the disk didn't start up right away like it should have. I am not sure if I can attribute that to Windows Vista or what. But opening the disk and running the setup manually was easy anyway. I then ran through the install, which asked for a password for the router, which I was happy about, and by default it enabled WPA2, so you have to enter the passphrase for that. When the process was at the end, the second odd thing happened. The end of the install program asks to write a file to the desktop with the configuration for the router. I found this odd because it has your router password in plain text, and it put your WPA2 key phrase in plain text. I didn't really like this because of course it isn't very secure. It is however on your desktop, so if the computer is password protected, I guess you have some security. I deleted it almost immediately, since I don't want sensitive information sitting around on my machines if I can help it.By default the only security enabled is the WPA2. The SSID is not hidden, and there is no mac address filter. On my old router I had set it up with these two security measures because they are fairly simple to do, and they make it a lot more difficult for someone to get on to a network with this setup. Now my old router didn't set these up by default either, so it wasn't a big deal. So I poked around in the configuration screens and changed some things that I think are important. I was impressed by how many options you have on this router. It seemed much more robust than my old router, which was a 802.11g router, and is probably 3-4 years old now. I did run into a problem with connecting back to the router after a reboot because I changed some options. I had to reboot to get my computer to reconnect. This didn't bother me all that much, but it was kind of irritating.Next I went about changing all of my computers over to the new router. This process is fairly painless when it comes to the computers (1 dual boot Windows/Linux which both attached just fine). I basically just had to add a new connection for the new router which is by default on the 192.168.0.x address segment. The Printer and NAS are set up with fixed IP addresses configured on their own boxes, and they are both hardwired to the router, so they were really easy. After that comes the odds and ends. Overall I had this router in within an hour with the configuration that I wanted.I then moved around the house a little to see what kind of strength I got. Since most of my nics are 802.11g, I first tried that. It seemed about the same to me, though I really wasn't expecting much difference, since there should have been no increase in speed. I did notice that it seemed like I got a little bit better signal strength from further away, even on the older nics. The Wireless N also worked very well. I tried connecting up with a wireless USB NIC and that went pretty well too. I didn't get a chance to check to see if the speed was better by numbers, but eyeballing a couple of downloads from my NAS seemed quite a bit quicker. So overall, the DIR825 seems like a pretty good router to me, way better than my old router which will now be retired.....The other interesting thing about this router is that it has two bands, it can use 2.5Ghz or 5.0Ghz. Both are given their own SSID, and are basically separate networks. The box says that the 5.0Ghz is meant for streaming HD content, while the 2.5Ghz is meant for the normal junk (e-mail, web-browsing, etc). I was having a problem with the 5Ghz ban not having that good of signal strength. Even when sitting near the router, the NIC that I was using was only getting 23% signal strength, but the 2.5Ghz band was getting 99% signal strength. I looked into it a little, but wasn't able to figure it out. So I ran the test I wanted to run anyway. I connected up with two different com

I've never been a fan of D-Links regular routers, but this pocket router worked very well for me. I set it once as an actual router and once as an access point. Both were very easy to do if you followed the instructions and have a general knowledge of networking. The range seemed good and I didn't lose much speed through two walls. I also used this in a hotel, while hooked into their wired connection. Again, it worked wonderfully. It's very small, has the protected WPS setup, and comes with a convenient carrying case. I would highly recommend this router to anyone who is traveling and wants wireless internet where it may not be available.

I got this router to replace an older D-link model I had. It works well, and worked straight out of the box, however the user interface is not as straight forward as the old one. Previously it was very easy to setup the router through the IP address, but now, maybe it's because there are more features, it seems very convoluted. I had a hard time finding some of the basic functions I wanted like access to the DMZ which is firewall tab, apparently under the tools option. I also have networked printers and a server, so I like to keep the IP address static for some of the connections. I figured out how to do this, but as I said it just wasn't as straight forward as before. My best advice would be that if you really want 8 hard wired ports like I did, this is a good chose of router, it works well and is cheaper than a lot of others. I have many non wireless connections in my house, and I don't want to set up extra access point boxes, so this makes sense. However if you don't need the extra ports, maybe try another router that would be more user friendly.

Setting up this router is basically a breeze. The first thing you do is drop in the included CD and it walks you through each step. It's a hand holder. Step 1 remove the sticker covering the ports on the back, and then unplug this wire, and plug it in here etc. Each step of the instructions has individual screens for each of these baby steps; read one tiny step, click next, read the next etc. By the time you are done you are easily connected to the internet and the router wireless is working fine. Now that I have said that, I also have to add that I spent 2 days working with this router due to a couple of setup anomalies, ones that are unusual due to my networks configuration. You know when someone reads you a riddle, or gives you a mechanical puzzle and you spend hours on it, and finally they tell you, or you figure out the answer, and you say, "Oh, I knew that" or "Oh that's easy". You get the idea. Hopefully these tips may help someone save a lot of time.Dilemma 1: I run a server environment on my home network; Windows Server 03 R2 Standard with an active domain. When I installed the router I got instant internet access, but was no longer able to access the controller file server. On other machines in the network I was able to access the server files but not on the machine I put the CD in to install the router. Then I realized that DLink uses a different default IP address than the one that Linksys uses. The DLink default is 192.168.0.1 and the Linksys uses 192.168.1.1. Even though the TCP/IP properties were set to the server settings, I was still unable to access the server files. So I decided rather than reset all of the machines, including the server to the default IP of the DLink router, I changed the router IP address instead. This presented another challenge; in the router configuration, I changed the IP over to the Linksys default of 192.168.1.1, but in the next configuration box, when I set the range to 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.199, it gave me an error message when I tried to save my settings. Finally after working on this for so long, I saw the instructions in the routers manual. Re-setting the IP address of the router was standard fare, so I figured, let me just try that alone. So I did, and I saved the settings. Then I rebooted the router, and noticed the IP range was automatically reset for me. Wah lah, the router still worked, and I had access through the new address to the router, and my server network was back up again.Looking back on this it all seems like, "Of course". The beginning of my journey was confusing because I have been setting up Linksys routers, wireless and hard wired for quite some time, without any of these problems, but more importantly, I set up the Netgear wireless router which shares the same default IP address as the DLink and never had to do any of this as well. So something in the DLink automated setup changes something that prohibits me from accessing the server files which is neutralized when you re-set the routers IP address back to one that is compatible with your server's, or any devices using a fixed IP address. Anyone who wants to chime in using the comments section is welcome. Share with me, share with others, your thoughts on the subject.Dilemma #2: Setting up the wireless devices, an individual laptop to connect to the router is relatively easy if you are adding an adapter such as the D-Link DWA-160 Xtreme N Duo Dual band Draft 802.11n USB Adapter I am highly reccomending it at this point after an A-B comparison with the Netgear Adapter using it with this DLink system. I was getting drop outs with the Netgear, and not such problem with the DLink. At first I didn't like the D-Link because I was getting a poor signal only 6 feet away, but from the other side of the room it is very good. So I figure the sender and receiver parked right next to 2 cordless phone sets was the problem. It is easy to install. They provide a disk with built in installation and an instruction manual. By the way I found that setting up that adapter the manual method went without a hitch. The auto-connect button did work for me with the Dlink adapter. The dilemma is not in using the DLink N adapter, but in setting up a laptop using the built in wireless function in Windows XP. The strength of the signal in another room, through walls was excellent but getting it to validate, by entering a security key was another challenge. The answer was finally found, and it seems easy in retrospect, because I realized that the older laptop had a built in adapter that did not support the newer WPA encryption, it only supported WEP. WPA2 is the advanced security encryption that is incorporated in this latest release router, and I do not want to downgrade the encryption scheme so that the one laptop can connect; buy an N adapter instead, and enjoy the benefit of the wireless N, as well as more advanced security. WEP is based on the MAC address of the device, which is information that is easily obtai

After I purchased this router I was able to resolve all the little issues I had.For example connecting several peripherals, like printers, usb, voip phone, etc. There is a usb port as well and you can network the usb (only one person can use it at the time). The wizard is easy and the setup is a breeze. There are couple of features I really like, the fact you can hide the network so it looks like it is not broadcasting but it is and the other is that you can set to network computer by their mac address. In few words, besides adding a password to connect to your network, you can choose to broadcast using your pc mac address as identifiers. So, if there is another computer connected to your network and the mac address is not listed, there is no connection. (double protection) and you need only a check-mark to activate this. Great feature. The router is also fast. Again, not one issue since purchased, used for the last 6/8 months. Good product, good range, good speed, easy to setup, 8 ports.

Particularly, I subnetted (a lost art) the box and the tested it for each of the devices on my network. This is different from someone who takes it out of the box and plugs it in.

I've had one of these since the first pocket version was released and sold for over $200. I've used it for years and it's been something I've been really happy to have. Not only is it useful in hotel rooms where I've got devices that need wireless, it's been helpful at various consulting gigs and client sites. It's also been handy for use at home when other equipment failed.D-Link makes this router in a nice carrying case; it is easy to throw in an equipment bag or suitcase. This new N version offers a nice upgrade. It can be used as always as a wireless router (which can give you several wireless connections off one connection in a hotel room). It can be used as a wireless access point, and the new very handy upgrade is the ability to bridge from a wireless to a wired network. This means you can connect something like a game machine with no wireless to a wireless network. Or, in a hotel with wireless only, you can connect the wireless back to a hub. Or, if you have a 3G or 4G card you can use it to bridge your home network if your ISP goes down. This is one of my favorite and most used gadgets.

Since I would rather have a wired connection than wireless for my game consoles and other bigger electronics, I was in the market for a router with more than the standard 4 ports. That's when I saw and purchased the 8 port d-link router. The setup was easy, and my wired connections were working within minutes. Lik everyone else, the problem was with the wireless signal. I experienced the same dropping signal and locking up as everyone else. Theres a website where you can use a custom firmware that supposedly fixes these issues, but I was already past my patience with this router. So, I went back to my trusty ole' linksys g-router, and haven't looked back. I'll figure out another way to get more wired connections in the future.save yourself some time and frustration, and skip this router...at least until they update the firmware.

I was brought up to say nothing if I had something bad to say, but it would be a dereliction of human decency to withhold my honest assessment of the D-Link DIR-632. This router is incapable of sustaining one laptop with an empty Google search page without dropping the signal. Forget about streaming video; that's practically impossible without having to incessantly reboot the router. I've been forced back to my ancient 4-port Linksys which I previously abandoned because of the increased number of devices on my home network. This router is the worst. Do not buy it. Times are too hard to waste money buying this atrocity.

I've had two of these, I bought one for my sister when she went to grad school, I loved a lot of the options I could do with setting up guest networks for when her classmates came over they could hop on that, and I had it setup with specific hours they could use it for.I ended up buying the same router for myself when I moved last year. Easy to configure, loved a lot of the options. Its simple for anybody to use and it met all my basic requirements for home use, I actually have several dual band routers at home and this is my primary one. However in the past month this router has started to act up, one day I came in and it had lost the ability to get onto the internet, so I quickly put my DSL modem over to one of my other routers, sure enough they worked fine. Oddly it looks like it doesn't like the PPPoE, I've reset the router several times now to defaults and reconfigured. Nothing works, the network is fine, but the internet for some reason stopped working. I will say that I use it for a lot of traffic, I have my laptop and my pc on it and most times I'm downloading games from Steam, so gigs of data is constantly passing through. Also I have all three modern consoles hooked and an apple tv (new one), iPad and iPhone hooked up, no drops ever.I tried to find out why all of a sudden the PPPoE has stopped working on it, but I basically have given up. I am a little weary of buying another d-link at the moment and looking for a replacemnt, as my other current router (Netgear) is a lot slower on wifi than this one.

I have been using a couple of these on several XP sp2 computers. Software loads from the D-Link website and runs the usb adapter perfectly. Turn on the computer and puts you on the internet immediately. You can't beat the price/performance, and doesn't take up a lot of valuable space. Signal strength is good from a few rooms away with a decent router. I really have nothing bad to say here. Buy one and simple move from one XP unit to another.Drivers will do Vista too.

The features on this router are about as good as they come without flashing a 3rd party firmware (like dd-wrt). Here is a quick list:* DHCP server with DHCP reservations (I was really excited about the reservations! I have had several routers that don't do this)* Virtual Server* Port Forwarding* Application Rules ("used to open single or multiple ports on your router when the router senses data sent to the Internet on a "trigger" port or port range")* QOS* MAC Address filter* Access control--block specific sites, allow or block sites based on schedules, source IP or MAC address, dest IP range and/or port range* Firewall --> Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) --> Anti-Spoof Checking --> DMZ host --> Various settings for NAT --> Application Level Gateway (ALG) configuration control for PPTP, IPSec, RTSP, and SIP --> WAN Ping Respond (yes/no) --> Set filters based on source/dest IP/port* Routing list configuration* IPv6 configuration* UPnP toggle (enable/disable)* Email settings* Wireless: All the standard stuff, plus --> Channel width --> broadcast strength (transmit power) --> TRS Threshold, Fragmentation Threshold, DTIM Interval --> WLAN Partition --> WWM Enable (helps control latency/jitter for multimedia) --> Short GI (toggle on/off)That is MOST of the settings you have access to. The interface is easy to navigate and the help is actually helpful... at least most of the time. I found the defaults to be good choices in almost all cases. The fact that it has 8 ports is very convenient and has enabled me to get rid of one of my switches. I haven't used the USB port for sharing yet, but it's a cool feature. The signal strength was about the same as my old Belkin router--which is to say it is just about right--with the router in the corner of my basement, I can get clear access anywhere in my house and in parts of my yard. This is with 802.11g. I haven't tried b or n.I have been using this for weeks and have had exactly 0 issues with it that would require power cycling it or similar. All in all, I am very happy with this router. I would certainly recommend it.

The dir825 product is very good once up and running, with good speed and coverage and seems pretty solid. It is effectively two wifi devices in one, one on 802.11a/n, one on 802.11b/g/n, so you can get all your laptops which do 11a onto the 5GHz band freeing up 2.4GHz for handheld devices. It is a little bit complex to configure to get the best out of it, but mainly all you need to do is set the WPA pass phrases on the wifi and the admin password for the router itself. One downside is that if you want to set static routes, you can only do so for the outbound/WAN interface, and not for the LAN. I encountered this in a small office where there was a VPN appliance on the LAN, and I needed to remotely admin the DIR825. Dlink said that if you want full control of static routes then you should buy the professional/corporate models. However, I discovered via a forum that it was possible to use firefox with the firebug extension and change the web page on the DIR825 so as to make the route's interface change to LAN.If it weren't for the routing issue, I'd give this five stars, as this is a good price for a simultaneous dual-band model.

This is a great unit and lives up to the sales hype. My wife's computer was running on slow motion on the other side of the house using the standard FIOS router (junk). The D-Link solved the problem. Setting is up was another story. I am a person who hates to admit defeat but after several hours of trying to figure out the instructions I gave in and called D-Link customer support. They were great as well as patient and stayed with me until everything was working. Buy it for the features, keep it for the customer support.

I was excited to receive this router as I was in need of an upgrade from my old Linksys I'd been using. However excitement turned to frustration when I began to notice a few things occurring that have yet to be resolved. I began to receive numerous "Connection Reset" errors when browsing the web. A simple refresh usually brought the page back but it started to get annoying as it would occur quite often, most often on youtube. I tried adjusting numerous settings and nothing seemed to work. 2 different web browsers even. It happened on every computer I used on the network and I'd never had a problem until I started using the D-link. I didn't however have any connection loss in any online game I played or file I downloaded. There's a few other reports of this same issue and D-link doesn't really seem to care since not enough people are bothered by it. Which is why I factored that it could be my connection from my ISP overloading the router since according to Speedtest.net I am getting 20MBPS even though I only pay for 8MBPS so I think the line could have a lot of noise on it but like I said before I did not have any issues using my Linksys. Whether it's just the router or my Internet connection in conjunction with router, it still shouldn't act like this since I had no problems with the Linksys. Other than that issue it still seems like a nice router. 8 ports for multiple connections is more than any household could ask for. The USB connection in back is a nice idea but doesn't seem to be plug and play and requires some setup that I just didn't care to do so I never really went any further to see why it didn't work. For the price it's okay but needs some more work. There hasn't even been a firmware update since it was released a year ago, which is kind of irritating.

I read the reviews about this unit dropping connection but found that it was the only reasonably priced 8 port router out there. The set up was easy and the unit worked significantly faster than my old but reliable Linksys. Start runing alot of vido across it from multiple computers using windows media and it dropped the internet and then the connections between the workstations. After resetting the unit it happed again and I thought I was in trouble. Then I noticed that the unit was getting hot on the bottom. So I proped it up on all four courners so that the vent holes would have better air flow and it has worked perfect ever since. My old Linksys had legs on it that were almost an inch but this unit only has 1/8 inch pads on the corners. Maybe the manufacture can learn from this.I really like the USB port on the unit that allows you to attach a printer or external hard drive. Great way for creating a central storage for back up or shared files.

DLINK describe this product as a powerfull booster, really don't waste your money, is better if you buy a bigger Antena and install in your router also you should consider to buy a couple of Access Point before buy this bad Product. My scenario is that I have the router (with Internet) and try to connect this Wi-Fi Booster but really the router give me more powerfull of signal than this product Wi-Fi Booster. Also try to change the mode of the Wi-Fi Booster to Bridge, but lost the signal suddenly, and the bad thing is that in that mode I have to connect directly by LAN (cable) my devices, the worse thing is that I have a Wii and this device doesn't have LAN port, is only Wi-Fi.Too sad because I live in other country and I don't have the opportunity to return it.

Set it up 1st time within 15-20 minutes 8 ports and wireless network secured! Thought I was golden until about an hour later nothing could access the internet. Reset the device and reset up again, worked for 2 days... Then it requires a reboot about every day or so to keep my devices connected. I did a return with Amazon thinking the device I got was bad.2nd device arrives sets up just as easily lasts 3 days before same issue occurs... Not sure what the problem is bad firm ware, shoddy craftsmanship, or the "green features" work a little to well. But the device will just all around stop working about every 2-3 days and has to be unplugged and plugged back in. Its good when it works and 8 points is GREAT! because I need 7 for my home office but I can't be losing internet connection whenever it feels like stopping. This was my 1st D-Link router and it will be my LAST! Any suggestions for an 8 port wireless N router that works???

This is the second of this model I have tried. As a router goes it works fine but the wireless piece of it is unreliable. I have gone through the troubleshooting and returned one. The second is no better. I needed the more than 4 hardwired ports but really dont like to daisy chain. Now I have this 8 port with wireless turned off tied into my 4 port wireless router. Works just not how I wanted to do it.

Bought this router to improve connectivity in my home, where I have every type of wired and wireless entertainment options you can imagine available. The downfall of this device for me is it's inherent inability to function correctly with either of my AppleTV's. Nothing more frustrating that spending hours trying to forward ports and follow instructions from various forums to workaround a problem that doesnt exist with any other router I have tried. So tonight was finally my last goodbye to D-Link and the DIR-825, hope other people have better luck!

I purchased this product at the end of September. Delivery was fast and I was eager to see what were all these bad reviews about. This router is a replacement of an old Netgear 4-port Ethernet switch and router. All I can say is that following the instructions for web setup everything worked as expected and the device works now up to its specifications. I have a long experience with wireless devices and this one I can say is excellent. Since I use it mostly as an AP and did not work with it long time as an Internet router, I cannot say if all features work as expected. The advanced features like port forwarding, filters, etc. are to be tested and reported by someone, who uses this device as a front. The fact for me is that as an AP and Ethernet switch it is faster and better than my old device and I am very happy with this product.
