I've used previous models of these D-Link routers so the interface was familiar for the most part. Set up was pretty simple, though I could tell there where a lot more settings to tweak this thing out pretty good if you want to go there. Signal defiantly penetrates the household walls better that my previous (non-dual band) models. I've had a couple Linksys and Netgear routers give up on me over the years, but every one of my D-Links are still working just as good as day one. I did recommend to a friend, and last I check, he's quite happy with his too.

This router worked fine for regular internet access. But I could never get it to work properly for FTP file transfers using FileZilla.The file would upload but the return signal verifying the upload was blocked, so FileZilla would just try to start the upload over again. I'm a medium-proficient IT/networking guy, and spent several hours on FileZilla and D-Link forums trying to figure it out, and tried dozens of likely-sounding configuration changes - to no avail.Ease of use - 3 stars - it runs, but doesn't perform needed function which SHOULD have been easy & automaticReliability - 4 stars - only 1 day of experience, but it seems reliable enoughEase of setup - 1 star - initial setup was a little convoluted, but not horrible; there may be a way to get it running with FTP, but it sure isn't easyOverall - 2 stars - a well-engineered product it is NOT; would not purchase or recommend it to anyone elseBTW, the Linksys router being replaced (which still works beautifully, just gave it to a family member) performed FTP transfers flawlessly with no need for setup tweaks whatsoever.I'm returning this router. It's not a 100% automated or intuitive set up. You'd think that all D-Link products could communicate with each other automatically, they don't. Coverage is good and so is wireless line speed.

I read the reviews before I purchased this item and I really didn't think anything could be that bad. But they are true this router drops the internet connection at least once a day. I went back to my trendnet and I don't have any problems.

This router did not allow me to stay connected to the Internet for more than a few hours, and sometimes it disconnected after only a few minutes. To be clear, the router maintained WAN connection according to the indicator on the router itself, but it lost it's connection with the computers on the LAN. When this happened a power off/on of the router would temporarily fix the problem until it occurred again in a few minutes to a few hours.Upon research I found that a large number of people have experienced the same problem, and when exchanged for a new one, many of them experienced a repeat of the same problem, but when they switched to a different router the problem went away. Obviously this points to a problem with this particular router, and not with how people are configuring it. I have switched to another brand, used the exact same settings with this new router, and have not had any problems so far.I recommend avoiding the D-Link 632 8 port router until this problem is fixed.All of that being said, if you're a fan of dd-wrt firmware you can install it onto this router and it should be fine. But you should not have to change the firmware of a router you buy to get it to work. However, since it does work if you do so, it's two stars instead of one.

This router is small & has a reasonable distance band.It is fairly easy to set up & very easy to carry around.I bought it used but was very happy about the condition I received it.I have used many d-link products & have always had good results.

I purchased the DAP-1525 Wi-Fi Booster because some of the wireless clients (i.e. PS3, Laptop, smart phones, Wii...) on my network were not getting a very good signal from my wireless router Cisco-Linksys WRT320N Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router.I was mistakenly under the impression that the DAP-1525 would work much like a repeater and I would be able to set it at a more ideal location to receive the signal from my router and send it to the wireless computers on the network. I later found out that the DAP-1525 does not support the repeater mode (i.e. wireless to router and wireless to clients). It supports only Bridge mode (wireless to router and wired to clients) and the Booster mode that is AP mode (wired only to router and wireless to clients). Looking back I see that I made a hasty decision and I should have read the reviews on Amazon.com for the D-Link Wi-Fi Booster Smart Beam Dual-Band AP (DAP-1525) to get a better understanding of the product in a real time environment (see review by: Jon Zastera).Overall though I am very satisfied with the DAP-1525 Wi-Fi Booster. Once I got everything up and running (as outlined in the manual and several visits to the Dlink support web site) all of my wireless clients were getting a "good" to a "very good" and even "excellent" signal and as an added bonus both the wired and wireless computers are able to use the SharePort(tm) Plus Technology for sharing USB 2.0 devices (a good place for a Shared Printer).

At first, the pocket D-Link worked fine as a router and access point, but would never operate correctly as a wireless client. Additionally, after six months (and well after the return period expired) it stopped connecting to the Internet, no matter where it was connected. or if it was reset, firmware reloaded, etc. There are less expensive mini routers on the market that continue to work well past their warranty period, and I recommend passing this one up. NIce package, poor technology.

I've had the DIR-825 for several years. Purchased it for dual use, particularly for streaming on 5 GHz. Never worked well, probably because the range is only good if the receiving device is nearby....making wireless virtually useless on the 5 GHz connection. Frequent drops or trouble reconnecting. I plan to upgrade to a new router and will avoid DLink. My biggest problem is that DLink customer service is non-existent. Have tried to get help numerous times with Firmware upgrade but DLink does not respond. Too many other good routers to settle for this one and certainly too many manufacturers to put up with poor service from DLink.

The process to set up was a little different than I'm use to but over all its a good asset to have when traveling. The Shareport works great and software was easy to install and caused no issues with Windows 7

This router is easy to setup but not reliable at all. It just stops working every other days. Both wireless and LAN access are interrupted. It is quite annoying and eventually I have to return it.

I use my DAP-1525 as an Access Point to extend the range of my D-Link router on the other side of our long house. While I agree with other reviewers that the documentation leaves much to be desired, when you do get it set up for your environment it works very well. I've had mine set for months in 5 Ghz mode and it has worked with all of my devices (PC desktop, several PC laptops, iPad 1) without fail....until I acquired an iPhone4. After much searching I found that the iPhone 4 only communicates on 2.4 Ghz. One flip of the switch to 2.4 Ghz and voila!, the SSID popped up on my iPhone 4. [I had originally set the device to 5 Ghz to ensure it wouldn't interfere with my 2.4 Ghz home phones; time will tell if changing the DAP-1525 to 2.4 Ghz creates any other conflicts.]

I got the D-Link DIR-825 router 10 months ago to replace an old Netgear one. The first thing I did was to get rid of its software and installed OpenWRT. The flashing process took me 10 minutes, give or take. So far, no issues in the connectivity or performance department. I have set up a Samba server in it and it works flawlessly. Maybe the pitfall for the people not entirely happy with this device is the in-house software it is shipped with or simple a defective device. All in all, I would recommend buying this router and flashing it with OpenWRT (or with DD-WRT, as other reviews suggest). Hope this helps ...

With so many devices in our household we needed to upgrade our wireless router. Between laptops, cell phones, tablets and kindles, it is amazing how many items use wireless. This router was easy to set up (as routers go) and works well.

You cant get a router with 8-port in any store. Price is reasonable The only thing is the password to hook up the router was in correct. You have to call D-Link for the correct password. But its still a very good router.

Easy hook up, VERY stong signal, my provider is at 25 mbps (free upgrade to 50 mbps on 7/27/12 - can't wait) download speed and this router uses all of them! 2000 SF house and I can't find a spot where the signal can not be found, even on my deck. 2 laptops, 2 iPhones (4s), 2 iPads (2 & 3), Apple TV, WD HD Media Player, and a PS3... everything at the same time and NO lags the steaming HD looks perfect. Order, hook it up, and enjoy!11/19/12 - Just past 100 days and the router was dropping signal every 20 minutes and needed to be reset, on line help was useless... past 90 days so I need to pay... yea right. In the trash it went. I went to Best Buy and bought Netgear 6300-100NAS, a true beast. I will NEVER buy a d-link product again.

I'll say right up front that the product itself deserves a 5 star rating in my opinion, but I gave it a 4 star due to the complexity of setting it up. Like many of the other reviewers, I ended up calling the manufacturer after multiple attempts to set it up, all ending in failure. The process is quite complex, and it all depends on what kind of modem you have and your computer. Once the very nice gal at customer service walked me through the complex process it works great. My computer and modem are upstairs, but I like to use my laptop/tablet downstairs, as well my TV is WiFi enabled, and my previous WiFi signal was weak at best. Now I'm hitting maximum bars on all my devices and couldn't be happier.If you're considering a WiFi booster, this is a really good choice in my opinion, just be prepared to have a bear of a time getting it hooked up. You might want to save yourself the trouble and just call their customer service center right away, unless you're a computer geek, which I'm not.

I join those who don't understand the negative comments left about this router. I have owned it for a couple of years. It has done everything I have asked of it, and never skipped a beat. Rarely, it has to be rebooted, but that is about all. We stream a lot of video using UPnP in our home across this router. Our experience has been that routers usually don't last as long as this one has, so we have been shopping for new equipment -- but this one shows no signs of quitting. Yes, someone said the 5ghz band is weak -- that is natural. The 5ghz band is almost always weak because of the nature of the higher frequency signals. When I purchased this router it was about twice the price it is now, but I feel it was well worth it.

I bought this router because I recently upgraded my internet service. I also liked the router because it has 8 ports versus the standard 4 (I like to have as many of my devices hard-wired). I only have 3 that are wireless and the speeds are still killer. It was easy to set-up and configure to my likings. I was thinking about using a switch, but opted out because I know that these D-Link routers are easy to configure and 'lock-down'. Other than that, so far have been pleased and enjoy it. Would definitely recommend for other users. I have purchased many routers in the past and so far the D-Link brand is the one that you can get the best service without breaking the bank. If you are considering a really good router, that is easy to set-up and will not kill the wallet, then this is the one.

I bought this last month while travelling in Singapore. Its certainly very useful and for it's price is well worth it. I initially had a lot of problems setting it up, it seems like the web admin page is different for different settings (Client, AP, Router). The manual is really not much of a help. Your best bet is go to Youtube to get you started on the setup ([...]).So, I connected it to the hotel ethernet link, paid for my internet use and everyone in the room gets to use the internet with a single connection.I guess the closes alternative would be the Apple Airport Express, you'll have to pay a bit more and I don't believe you'll get the 3 options (Client, AP & Router).Overall a very good solution for anyone travelling, it's compact and comes in a pouch.

I bought this router approximately two years ago, and it has performed reasonably well since then. Every now and then, I would experience the random disconnections other reviewers have mentioned, although it wasn't bad enough to make me investigate the issue.Last week, however, the DIR-825 experienced a total failure. It fails to turn on, light its LEDs, or show any other sign of life when plugged in. At first, I suspected the AC adapter, but checking it with a multimeter confirms that it's still supplying the correct voltage.I'm rather unsatisfied that the DIR-825 only lasted two years.

I struggled for two hours to get this working in Wireless Client mode under Windows 7 and Linux, and ultimately the problem was the horrible documentation. Had it told me how to configure my machine *after* configuring the 1350, I could have had this up and running in a few minutes. The administration interface is incredibly confusing, despite the fact that I'm in IT and have configured networks for years.The documentation tells you to configure the DLink from a web browser after configuring your machine to a particular IP address. This is strange, and the web interface is very unclear and poorly done, but this part went OK. The problem was that it doesn't tell you that you have to reset your machine's network configuration back to the way you would normally configure it for your network---the documentation ends after you've configured the router and never tells you what to do afterward. There are many ways to connect to a network through an intermediate point, and nowhere does it tell you how the DLink 1350 works! Worse, when it's configured correctly, you can't access the DLink's admin interface any longer! I kept thinking it had locked up and reset it 10 or 15 times---it turns out this was what it's supposed to do!The device itself seems to work ok now, and it's a pretty cool idea. To make this a decent product, they need to 1) write complete documentation, 2) have it translated properly into English and 3) write a better administrative interface.

I have had a DIR-655 for several years and chose to add this one as an additional access point. Antennas, power supply, and disk were all included. I did not need the disk. The firmware was already up to date.I just googled "setting up DIR-655 as access point" and followed the tips.I am now running an access point using Actiontec 500 Mbps Powerline devices to connect the two DIR-655's.

I was looking for something a little more powerful than the Linksys WRT-54GL I was using to run DD-WRT (w/VPN). A coworker recommended the DIR-825. It took a few attempts at flashing the stock firmware (using the instructions on the DD-WRT wiki), but nothing too troublesome & otherwise, painless. All-in-all, I'm very happy with the choice, performance, and speed boost this router provides me. While I can't speak for this item "out of the box", it's an excellent choice for DD-WRT users.

This wireless N router is pretty easy to set up with three versatile operation modes which could be switched easily for different applications. The unit is very light weight and compact which is great for traveling uses. It comes with a folded setup guide with very clear instructions for its initial set up (ie creating its IP address for configurating the device). Once the initial setup is completed, you can then choose to setup one of the three modes of operations (Router, AP, and Wireless client mode) by sliding the mode selection switch to the proper position. The setup CD which comes with the package also contains very detailed technical setup and debug information for the more advanced users.This portable device is particularly useful for traveling as we can create our own wireless network by connecting to an existing Ethernet connection (in an office, home, or hotel). I was able to set up these modes (router or AP)with an existing Ethernet connection and get the wireless network going within 5 minutes. The AP mode uses the default WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) protocol with a 128 bit encryption for secure access.The wireless client mode is pretty neat for connecting an existing wireless network to either a Wii game console, a desktop PC, a DVR player, or a Slingbox. The only drawback is that it only comes with one physical Ethernet port so we can only hook it up to one device at a time.Highly recommended if you are a frequent traveler who needs expanded access to your portable wireless devices.

Worked well for 2-weeks but then the wireless connectivity would fail, and by that I don't mean drop but wireless connections, but that the transceiver would simply stop functioning, no wireless signal at all. Failures started out about once in 24 hours but after a few days would drop every few hours.After a call to D-link Support I reset the automatic channel selection to fixed-channel as advised but observed no difference. I exchanged the unit but within a week the second unit started doing the same thing.To date, D-link has not provided any firmware update, and there are many complaints online about the exact problem I am experiencing, as well as others who are experiencing wired network issues as well.At this point I cannot return the unit from the original retailer, and D-link will only exchange unit through a cumbersome and time consuming RMA Process, not good if the most critical component of your office network has failed.I Found D-link Support available 20/7 but only marginally qualified to support the product.In the end it looks like you get what you pay for rather then what is claimed with this one. If you need a reliable router, my advice is to spend real money and get a "real" router from a real networking company.

My wireless router is in my office in the rear of my home. I wanted to boost the WiFi signal strength in the front of my home to use my laptop wireless and link my phone. I replaced a 4 port switch with this AP. Easy quick setup in minutes. Laptop was linked and streaming HD video without pausing. Signal is excellent. Had a little trouble linking phone but found out it was my keystroke error. Called D-link support to find that out. They connected me to a live person in less than 5 minutes and resolved the issue in a couple minutes more. I left out a hyphen in the wireless network key. My Bad. Great service. Knowledgeable tech. Great product.

Very easy set up. My husband was able to set it up (he's not very handy when it comes to technology). I am able to get internet on the 2nd floor of my home with no problems or "loosing" signal.

I saw two major problems with this device. First, the wireless connection fails about twice a week and had to be power cycled to re-enable the connection. Secondly, the device puts out excessive amount radio frequency interference outside of its assigned frequency. I selected it for the 8 ports, but I would not buy this product again.

I recently moved into an apartment that featured "free" wireless internet as well as wired internet access. Well the phrase "you get what you pay for" held true - the wireless internet was a horrible dog. But when I plugged into the wired connection I was screaming along at over 20 mbs. Hence the hunt for an inexpensive solution for using my iPad and iPhone via wireless. The hunt led to this mini-router which has performed admirably for the past month. I also took the unit along on a business trip recently. The hotel offered free wireless (again, a dog) as well as wired which was pretty fast. Plugged in my little D-Link-1350 and my iPad zipped along just fine. This is a great help to business travelers who are tired of the maxed out WiFi networks at hotels. I rated it 4 stars only because the setup directions could use a little work. But the unit performs at a 5 star rating.

This device has some advantages that should make it a winner in the marketplace. Having 8-ports available is one of them, and combining that with being a Wireless N router would be another. Toss in the "Shareport" technology for sharing of some USB devices and you should have a winning product, but... well, reliability seems to be an issue with these devices. Apparently quality control and/or testing of these devices didn't rank as highly on the list as they should have before a batch (or more) of these items were boxed and shipped out to customers. Sending a reviewer an item that may not be ready for prime time is one thing, but having those problems in the devices that wind up in end-user's/customer's hands is nearly unforgivable.Going beyond that, if customers can't get through to support technicians or the wait times are horrendously long to do so, then in all likelyhood the customers are going to get very frustrated and simply return the product (where possible) and go with something else, despite the extra bells and whistles this product might offer.I like D-Link's products (in most cases) and absolutely loved an older D-Link gaming router (similar to this one D-Link DGL-4100 4-Port GamerLounge Broadband Gigabit Gaming Router) that I used for a while. That particular model offered Gigabit speeds on my side of the network (uplink speed is controlled by the ISP and at this point most ISPs offer speeds only in the 10's of Megabits range) and allowed me to keep my own network speeds at their most efficient.Honestly that issue (speed of the ports that are available on the internal network side of this router) is another where I've marked down this device a bit. Gigabit network speeds are becoming more and more standard for wired jacks on laptops and desktop PCs and limiting speeds to 10/100 seems rather silly. The difference in cost per port to offer customers the higher speeds should be minimal, though I suppose if this device were to offer Gigabit speeds it would muddy the market with a device that would then be competing with others that the company offers (like something in the GamerLounge series).Most customers would probably be happy with this device *if they get a good working unit*, but I would add the extra caveat that if you are going to buy one of these devices you should be sure to buy it from somewhere that has a very solid return policy.

In this day and age, most hotels and motels offer free Wi-Fi in the room and in the lobby. But there are still some that just have an Ethernet cable sticking out of the wall and do not have Wi-Fi signal in the guest rooms.This pocket router can convert a wired connection to wireless (This adding Wi-Fi/wireless to an existing wired network is called the Access Point Mode), so that I can use all my wireless gadgets in my room. I can add encryption (use WPA or WPA2 for better security) to the Wi-Fi signal, so it is actually better than the open Wi-Fi signal offered by hotels. The Access Point Mode is the configuration in which most people will use.The Wireless Client Mode does the reverse. It converts a wireless signal to a wired connection. Older computers and many game consoles do not have wireless capability. In an area where you only have wireless signal but no Ethernet (wired) network, you can use this pocket router to grab the wireless signal, convert it, then send it through the router's Ethernet port to your device. An example would be using an old Sony PS3 to play online games in a hotel room that has only Wi-Fi but no Ethernet cable.The Router Mode is less useful for an end user, because in most situations, there is already a router in an existing network, and therefore there is no need to add another one.I have only used this DLink in the Access Point Mode and it is fast and safe.

Setting up personal networks baffle me; By now I expect something to be basically plug it in and away you go. If I buy it and it isn't it goes back to the store. Forget the toll free number. Forget the call a friend. Forget the service guy. For 60 some bucks it works or it doesn't.So enter the D-Link DAP-1350. D-Link never says 'easy' on the box but I needed a solution for the office so I bought it. The unit is small yes BUT when combined with the external power supply it is a pouch of proportion - not epic proportion but proportion.I use a wired network at the office. However I wanted something to tap into that network and provide a secure wireless access point for my smartphone and tablet. The DAP-1350 has three modes - router, access point and something else I will not use in my lifetime - so I haven't bothered with it. I found the three modes confusing so I watched a YouTube presentation on the device which clarified things immensely. I toggled the DAP-1350 to the Access Point position and lit it up. My laptop saw it instantly and Windows 7 asked if I wanted to establish a secure network. I clicked absolutely - it asked me for a name, then I was asked to enter a WPS PIN number for security and I was up and running securely. Amazing. It also shot a code (not the PIN) at me to connect wireless devices to the network.When I travel I will flick the switch to Router and use it for wireless connectivity when there is only in-room wired Ethernet.I looked at routers where you can plug a 3G fob into them and you are wireless via a cell phone connection but this type of connection is expensive and I have found unreliable especially in South America.All in all the DAP-1350 is perfect for my uses and is a fine addition to my travel bag.

Great Router. Easy to install and setup. Good security features. Having 8 ethernet ports is a great advantage for a small office or anyone no wanting to use a great deal of wireless.
