In my scenario, my goal was to extend the 5 Ghz band from my DLink DIR-825 out to a dead spot in the back porch for Netflix streaming. Now it didn't quite do that as expected but there are some options to work with on the device. There are two modes that can work with the device that a few people might not understand even after reading through the marketing material. The first option what most people might be familiar with is AP Mode. AP Mode can create from where there is a non-existent wireless environment to a wireless one simply by plugging into your existing router and configuring. If your router already has wireless configured and can somewhat extend the wireless signal ever so slightly. I found that the 2.4 GHz band performance had a slight boost but not so much the 5 GHz band I was already running. The other mode that can be used is a Bridge Mode. In this configuration you would plug any devices into the Booster which will act as the antenna for them and then configuring the Booster to connect to the existing wireless in the area. This can increase performance by providing a better wireless antenna that might otherwise be more inferior in some devices that can't quite keep a steady signal. This is where their SmartBeam technology comes into play.A couple of things to understand though...1) You cannot connect a wireless device to it wirelessly and expect the Booster to relay that back to your router in Bridge Mode. They have to use a cable to the Booster first.2) Also in Bridge Mode, if the area that you're looking to expand is dead enough where a particular band cannot be seen or is extremely weak, the Booster will not compensate for it. It needs to connect to it just as any other normal device would.3) Despite the fact that it can support 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, it can only use one or the other at not at the same time in AP Mode.Ultimately in my scenario, I ended up using it in Bridge Mode by connecting the movie player to it and then bridging back to the router on the 2.4 band as the 5 GHz band was just too weak to stay consistent. This still improved streaming performance greatly and left a satisfactory feeling for the purchase. By looking at the stats on the router when the Booster is connected to it and is streaming, there is a higher data rate then connecting devices to the router without it. Overall, I'm happy with the device although the price for what you're getting is just a tad steep. Definitely worth a try if you are experiencing a scenario such as this. I suppose you could always return it if it doesn't work out.

When the item arrived - the set-up was not easy. Mostly because my router is in the basement and the direct computer connection did not work - I had to use the direct link to my router before it came online. Then my wife and I noticed it dropped our connection and made it difficult to re-establish. After contacting the manufacturer - I was able to get a decent consistent signal (had to reset and change the frequency) but it was not very strong. After all is said and done - it works now but not great - I get about a 20% better signal. To be fair it could be my placement I don't see this as nearly as powerful as my router (just a small boost). Probably, better off going with a more conventional bridge (I have no experience with this type so this is a guess).

I purchased this router about 2 years ago. At first it worked great. Within the last 6-12 months I have noticed problems with the connection. It would randomly drop the connection to iPods, iPhones, kindles, iPads, iMacs and my PC laptop.I always use the online utility to set up and update the router. Periodically, I would use the "check for newer firmware" option and it would always tell that I have the latest firmware. So, for 2 years I believed it. I was WRONG!!My firmware was from early 2009, which is what the router shipped with. After being fed up with the router dropping connections, and almost buying another one, I went to the DLINK website and discovered that my firmware was very old and out of date. So, I downloaded all the new firmware and uploaded them to the router incrementally using my laptop and a wired connection to the router(you can't do it wirelessly).Bottom line. DON'T TRUST THE ONLINE UTILITIES FIRMWARE CHECK!! Make sure you have the latest firmware which I believe is from April of 2012 (depending on which revision A1/B1 you have... its on the back of the router). Follow the instructions on how to install it manually and you will be set. After updating, I have not lost a single connection, my wife no longer gets pissed off at our electronics, me and the iMac, and all is good.If you need help with this leave a comment.Joel

I replaced on older 4-port Netgear router with this one because I needed the additional Ethernet ports. The Amazon price of this D-Link product was excellent. And even though I chose to bypass the D-link supplied setup program, the manual wireless network set-up was very easy. Then I discovered that the throughput far exceeded that of my older router, and Internet speed tests are showing an instant increase of about 50% download speed. So I had no idea that my older router was slowing things down so much! Would I recommend this to a friend? You bet I will!

I replaced a 4-port wireless router and separate internet switch device with this one router with 8 wired ports. These ports allow us to connect our many audio-visual devices that are internet devices, but do not have wireless capability. We have been using this router for about 3 weeks now. It works well when it's on and was easy to set up. However, it "dies" while idle overnight and other times about every other day. I have to power cycle the device to get it functioning again.Update: After a month of this thing dying and no easy way to update the firmware, I gave up and went back to my old setup.Do Not Buy.

I bought this router after reading some pretty good reviews on it. I only have 1500sqft one level condo so I thought I'd be ok. First, there is no download for a Mac so no quick setup. You have to direct in to the router. Not a huge deal for me because I know what I'm doing but for most, the settings in there could ruin the router. My biggest complaint is that I have a relatively small condo and I can't even get coverage in the master bedroom and the living room. Terrible coverage. My super cheap Belkin that only had G was ten times better.

we've been using a netgear 4 port router for years on end, and finally have expanded the network beyond 4 computers, which called for an alternative solution. Not willing to bother with network hubs and etc, i decided to try to find an 8 port + wireless router. After countless hours wasted searching around for the limited selection, reading the reviews, contemplating and so forth, i decided to order this one, based on its extremely low price and average reviews, i was kind of ready for what i was getting myself into.installed the router just fine, it caught all the computers, and the wireless. the signal never dropped, but worked EXTREMELY slow. the computers experienced a heavy decrease in website loading, i played with DNS servers, firewalls, etc, and couldnt really get it back to where it had been with the previous router.after reading enough reviews, i decided to take a shot at the DD-WRT open source firmware, and just like everyone said - it worked flawlessly. the instructions can be found with a simple google search, and the setup took less than 5 minutes. all computers are now functioning at their full capacity, and the wireless signal is at full strength with my ipad, macbook, phones, and etc.in short, i would definitely recommend this product, but i think the switchover to DD-WRT is a must.

I had ordered the item after returning a wireless repeater from Ampedwireless that was buggy and kept losing configuration. I saw the claim that this DAP-1525 was just about the closet to plug in and use than one could get, but I was skeptical.Opened the box, plugged it in, followed the directions, literally had the unit up and running inside 10 minutes or less. The latter is really what the experience of end users really should be with such devices. Now, time will tell if problems arise, but so far I couldn't be more pleased with ease of use and speed of the wireless connection to my router. For now, I'd suggest you buy this; especially if you have been burned by less than optimal products claiming to do what this device does, well.My review in short: Buy this, it works as advertised! :)

Yep the setup is all sorts of confusing. Mostly because the day I got this my ISP went down for maintenance (D'OH!) so the entire time I was trying to set it up I thought the router was the problem. That being said, they should have some automated thing that picks out the subnet mask and IP addresses and stuff for you. That was a HUGE pain in the ass to set up. Mostly because I am NOT a techy. I am what you'd call an "average consumer with slightly better computer skills than a newbie".As well, the little antennas are garbage. They are flimsy and come loose ALL the time. If you need to use wifi it's not too noticeable, but I am always causing them to move all over the place and I'm afraid they might just break off one day.Overall, it's worth the money as it seems solidly built and provides constant and reliable internet so long as your ISP can as well. As well as some nice advanced features. But it is lacking in many areas that would turn this from a "nice router" to a "pretty freakin' awesome piece of technology".

Note do not upgrade your firmware to the link unless you know exactly what you are doing or it will end up a brick.

I contacted D Link and was instructed the unit was defective. My second unit was defective out of the box.Sadly I cannot recommend this unit and I have since gone with a more dependable 4 port D Link (DIR-655) wireless unit which seems to be working fine. I am disappointed I could not find a better made 8 port unit that fit my budget.

I received the DAP-1525 and followed the instructions to set it up as an Access Point. Using the WPS function I copied my network settings automatically from the router to the 1525. However, following the installation process, I was not able to connect any wireless devices to the 1525. Using the web utility I tried to determine the status of the wireless devices in my home network. But, I believe there was a conflict with the Network Name as it had copied it over as part of the WPS process. So it appeared that my router and the 1525 were both broadcasting the same name and that may have been causing a conflict. Looking back at their installation instructions I located an instruction to disable the wireless network on my router. (This instruction was not part of the steps they published for setting up the AP. It was in another area of the installation guide.) I disabled the wireless network on my router but that did not clear up the issue. I then reset the 1525 with the idea of repeating the WPS process. But following the reset the WPS function no longer appeared to work. I then contacted DLink Customer Support. After many attempts to set up the 1525 they instructed me to return the unit as it appeared to be defective. One very odd thing was that I could enter configuration changes in the setup utility but when I clicked "save changes", the settings reverted back to the original values. So, I would give this a D- for the setup instructions both for the quick setup document which is included and for the more detailed instructions on the CD. And, for this unit in question, I would give it an F for function. It may be that a replacement unit would operate properly but I don't want to spend another 2 to 3 hours trying to get it to work.

FINALLY! In the past 3 months I've purchased 4 Netgear wireless modems and returned all of them. (One of them actually worked for about 10 minutes before dieing.)Since I was replacing a working DLINK DIR-615 I decided to take a shot with DLINK again and the DIR-825. My only regret is that I didn't do this to begin with. Installation was a snap. My only hesitation was in changing the default IP address from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 but that actually went well. Just reboot the router and the computer. (It was easier to change the software IP than to change the address of every device.)I had a problem connecting to the 5G wireless network. After doing some reading I realized that it wouldn't connect unless I was using a 5G adapter in the device I wanted to connect to. Fortunately one of my devices accepted both 2.4G and 5G signals and it recognized the band right away.So far I've been running the DIR-825 for about 20 hours and haven't had any problems. With that in mind I would highly recommend this product. Now all I have to do is figure out why Netgear tells me to use their on-line setup software when their router won't connect to the Internet where the software is located. DUH! (Catch-22)

I recommended the D-Link DIR-632 to my sister-in-law after researching it on Amazon. The features you get out of the DIR-632 for the price represented a great value. Unfortunately, there was a catch. The wireless performance was very flakey. Doing a Google search I got a lot of hits for other users who experienced the same issues with the AP disappearing (SSID vanishes from list of available wireless nets) and dropped connectivity. I'm not sure it's fixable with a firmware update but it would be nice if D-Link addressed these issues with one. The FW version listed on their website is still the same as what was shipped on the unit.I've tweaked a few settings and so far I'm getting good results. 802.11 mode changed to 802.11g only, set a specific channel (and unchecked channel autoscan), reduced the Beacon period, disabled QoS engine, disabled DHCP unicast support, and enabled multicast stream support. I suspect the beacon period change did the trick but I'm not going to mess with success at this point. If you buy this router, just beware of the wireless performance and be prepared to do some tweaking of your own.

This router has great hardware. It's the firmware that's in question. I didn't expect to have to flash third party firmware into it in order to make the wifi work reliably. After initial setup, it worked flawlessly... for about an hour. Wifi shut down, and I went online to investigate. I found that everyone has this problem, and the only solution is to flash DD-WRT firmware into it. I did so, and then spent the better part of two weeks trying to learn what all these wonderfull new settings were and how to use them. Now this is the best router I've ever owned, but it shouldn't have needed to be this way. If D-Link provided a workable firmware package with it, or even a revamped firmware to flash into it if needed, then I'd still have two weeks of free time back. I'm a bit resentfull of that, but at the same time thrilled to have learned all about DD-WRT.

I don't recommend this router due to it's poor signal range. When my daughter had it, she experienced periodic internet outages, but I cannot state for certain if this was the fault of the router. She did not noticed any problems with range because it was being used in a small apartment. When I switched from DSL to U-Verse, I had to move my primary router from the middle of our home to one end of the home. Neither the U-Verse router nor my old DI-524 could reach the other end of the house. When the DIR-825 became available, I found it was no better, so I decided to install the DD-WRT firmware to use the DIR-825 as a wireless repeater. After successfully setting up the router to receive the signal from my U-Verse router, I placed it where my DI-524 had been previously. Much to my surprise I could not connect with the DIR-825 from the room next to it. I was able to circumvent this issue by setting it up as a bridge. I then attached the DI-524 via ethernet directly into the DIR-825 and now have internet access throughout my home.In short, despite its features, the DIR-825 pales in comparison with the superior signal range of the DI-524. Too bad DD-WRT cannot be installed on the DI-524!

I have own this router for three years or more and it worked very well, but I had replaced it with a Cisco RV220W, but after a 1 year on the Cisco I started having issues with vertual ports and dropped connections. SO I went back to the DIR 825 and everything worked good, then found that there was a couple of firmware updates. Now the router is even better, very solid and works with no issues. Someone mentioned setting up routers via the online setup and I noticed this as being the cases with many brands... What engineer thought this was a good idea? I don't like it and I'm thinking about purchasing another DIR 825 to avoid this. My Cisco RV220W was a great router while it lasted, but very dispointed that I would have to replace it with in less than 1 and a half. Not sure that I will buy another one since these units well over 300 USD. For what you get with the DIR 825 and now the lower price its a good deal, just whish it was gray or black rather than white, but better than the Linksys shaped like a UFO! I would buy the DIR 825 and I may buy a spare soon.

D-Link model DIR-835 is a defective product. After less than two months, it crapped out on me. After two hours or more on the telephone, trying to get the router working again, the customer service agent told us that the product was "defective." I resorted to the telephone hell of customer service only after the router had to be rebooted almost every day. If you hopefully think that the company will fix your router, it means that you have to pay the costs of sending the broken router to them at your own cost, and wait at least five days for any news of return. By the way, it seems that they try to "repair" the router you originally bought. Now, I ask you, who can get by with more than five days without an internet connection?

I purchased the DIR-632 after reading dozens of reviews and personal experience comments on amazon, cnet and other sites. This one was the best middle of the road compromise of all the ones I personally investigated. It has great range; so far I can get a 98% signal in the far corners of my house, 40 - 50 feet away from the router and up one floor. It drops to 75% having to pass through 3 walls but still has a very good connection speed/transfer rate.It was very easy to set up (although the directions aren't clear, you do NOT need to have an internet connection to install if you choose to do a manual installation)though the directions read as if you do need a web connection to install.I would highly recommend this for any application (streaming video/music, web surfing, online applications, etc). My only caution are comments others have posted, even at Wireless N speeds, it may lag for online gaming.I have internal wireless G and wireless N in both laptops and have recently added the Wireless N Adapter RNX-N180UBE to my desktop unit for wireless connection there too. The wireless N USB adapter has given me 130 mbps download, 65 mbps upload speed from 50 feet away through 2 walls. I am pleased with the improvement over my dial up connection, but it still is not a T-1 connection.I do not see the router as the problem in my situation, but the wireless cards in the laptops. I could have spent 50 - 100 more for the router and as much for the usb adapter to get minor improvement. Overall, for most home applications (aside from gaming) I would highly recommend this D-link wireless N router.

I bought this router to replace an older D-link product. I have been disappointed ever since. The biggest issue I have with it is that it needs a reboot whenever the slightest change is made to the advanced configuration. This wasn't true of the older D-link, and having designed several routers myself it is not a problem with the specifications for a router. It's apparent that the firmware is so poor that they reboot every time simply to play it safe because their coders were unable to design a running configuration change. Now I'm having problems with the QoS screen refusing to save because of some protocol number when all I'm trying to do is turn QoS off - it was sloppily done and doesn't work right. Buy something else, spend a little more if you need to, but don't buy this.

I have 2 telephone lines, 2 tvs, a network drive, and a pc connected via cat5 cable and I have had not problems in 24 hours. The "easy setup" requires installation of the software first. I was too lazy to get my laptop (disk drive) from upstairs and decided to try a manual setup using my netbook. It was quick and easy. Besides the 6 devices I listed above I have a netbook, two smart phones, and a laptop that I have connected successfully to the router wirelessly. So far, so good. I will only update this review if I run into trouble. I hope this helps those that are hesitant about getting this device.(04/03/12) It has been 1 month, no major trouble, not sure why this device keeps getting such bad reviews. I live in a double and my mother lives next door and I could not get a signal before I switched from my not so old, not so cheap Belkin. I never bought it to boost the signal but I did a signal boost. I am happy, it all works fine. I did experience lost signal a couple of times on one of my android phones, but it was resolved by turning the wireless off and then back ON on the phone. Here is a suggestion for those still having trouble with theirs... if you live in an appartment building or an area where many signals overlap, your wireless signal may get "jammed" this can be solved by changing the channel on the router admin page. I had to do this with my Belkin wireless router and yes... it does make a difference. Hope that helps.

Even though I've built numerous computers, I never had any Wifi device and no Wifi experience, so when I decided to add Wifi to my house so my wife could use the Ipad 3 she just received by the school where she works, I had to create something she could use, but I didn't want to spend much time in the installation or operational requirements. I have a network at my house using RJ45 cabling through a router. I wanted something easy for this quick setup. I bought one of these from Amazon and within a few minutes of unboxing it, had it running. It is that simple. However, I didn't want any passerbys to access the Wifi in my house so I did have to hook it directly to one of my computers in order to install a passkey that anyone would have to know in order to access my home Wifi network. The instructions were a little confusing, initially, because I assumed too many things as I rushed through them. But, if I did everything as written, it would have taken me only a few minutes to install the passkey. I imagine that if you travel much with this miniscule Wifi from hotel to hotel, it would be a great asset as it is super small... smaller than an Iphone, lightweight and easy to use. Just select one of three settings on the back, plug it in, and wait to acquire the signal. Fantastic item.

A couple of months ago I purchased the DIR-825 because on average it received better buyer reviews than the competing dual-band N-compatible routers. At this point, I'm really struggling to understand how this is possible, because the DIR-825 fails in so many areas. I've designed wireless home networking products for almost the past 10 years, and while I'd hope that my experience and familiarity with top brands should equip me to make good purchasing decisions, in my confidence I apparently overlooked some fundamental requirements. In the DIR-825 I got a router that had what I was looking for (configurable QoS, dual-band 802.11n support), but also had a lot of other "features:"- Randomly disconnects clients every hour or so. This happened more in 5GHz than 2.4GHz, but it definitely happened in both spectrums, and did so often. The router's logs did not indicate any reasons for clients being removed. My theory is that there were frequent signal strength hiccups that caused clients to think the router had vanished. They always reconnected about 10 seconds later, but that's long enough to disconnect you from most online games.- Renders Vonage VOIP calls completely inaudible, even when the wireless network is quiet. The Vonage router is the only wired networking device in our house. We had it plugged into the DIR-825 so we could take advantage of the router's advanced QoS capabilities, but it was an absolute nightmare. We never got VOIP to work right so long as it was 'behind' the DIR-825, regardless of QoS settings and various other tweaks mentioned in the D-Link knowledge base and forums. We ended up having to put the Vonage device in front of the router (which fixed Vonage but had side effects on the rest of the network).- Auto-channel Select Feature DOES NOT WORK. The auto-channel select feature, which is enabled by default, is supposed to automatically choose the least congested WiFi channel in your band. I have access to some very expensive sniffing and spectrum analysis systems that tell me that the absolute best 2.4GHz channel in my house is number 4, and the absolute worst is number 1, which literally has 10 different SSIDs beaconing on it as I write this. The DIR-825 ALWAYS selected channel 1 (and it wasn't just a matter of what it reported in the admin UI; sniffers reported it in Channel 1.) Not only does this feature appear to do the opposite of what it advertises, it's also known for randomly disconnecting clients. Unfortunately, disabling it did not fix our problem with that.- Doesn't work with BitTorrent. I know all about port forwarding, TCP, UDP, UPnP, I followed forums, FAQs, and step-by-steps, but I never got BitTorrent to accept incoming connections properly. (And note that I hardly ever have BT running, anyway; it has nothing to do with the other issues noted here).- Crummy wireless range in both bands. First off, a little bit of info about the 5GHz band: 5GHz is never going to have the same range as the 2.4GHz range at the same transmit power; this is a matter of physics- higher frequencies = shorter wavelength = shorter distances/more susceptible to walls. There's another problem though- at least in the USA, you are only allowed to transmit on 5GHz at a fraction of the maximum power allowed on 2.4GHz, so really 5GHz is hit with kind of a double-whammy of suck. Note that there are a few 5GHz channels that are allowed to be transmitted at a higher power than the rest, but that doesn't mean that 5GHz device manufacturers actually do that- it only means they can. With that in mind, I can say that the DIR-825 has worse range in not only 5GHz but 2.4GHz as well than the dual-band Linksys WRT610 (which surprises me because of the Linksys's funky design), and also worse than any of the 2.4GHz-only routers we had before that.- Is on its way to losing WiFi Alliance compliance. There's a WFA-certified logo on the box of the DIR-825, but if you've been following wireless forums you will learn that D-Link has been experimenting with removing 802.11b support from their routers, including the DIR-825, in their downloadable firmware updates. Now, I personally stopped using 11.b years ago, and you can get better 2.4GHz performance by going G-only, but WFA logo compliance REQUIRES that you support 802.11b. D-Link has not explained why they're trying to do this, but I suspect that their hardware has either become overloaded or their code so messy that they can't adequately support new requirements without dropping 802.11b support- and that should scare you. After a full MONTH of trying to get the DIR-825 to work properly, I realized it wasn't me, and it wasn't my setup- it was just that this router sucks worse than any other router I've ever used. I promise you there's not a single setting I didn't investigate or tinker with in my quest to get reliable WiFi, but honestly, even if there were some magic combination of router settings that would make things work, the thing should have been configured to work pr

Length:: 1:22 MinsHere is my D-Link DIR-632 wireless 8 port router 2 months out of warranty. One month out, the wifi started dropping out every few minutes. Two weeks later, wired connections were slow and sporadic. Two weeks after that, this happens. Enjoy the video. Obviously, I'm done with D-Link products, forever.

I have a Linksys E4200 (v1) Cisco-Linksys E4200 Dual-Band Wireless-N Router and was originally using the DLink DAP-1522 bridge D-Link DAP-1522 Extreme 4-Port Gigabit Dual-Band Wireless-N Bridge/Access Point with it.While the 1522 worked fine it was limited to 150mbps. The 1522 also had an annoying flashing red LED to indicate that it was in bridge mode and not AP mode. (Great for the living room!)The 1525 looks MUCH nicer, which is good because it's taller and wider than the 1522 so it'll be more difficult to hide in the back of the AV cabinet. It has Gigabit ethernet connections which the Playstation 3 has so I connect the PS3 through the bridge rather than use the built-in Wifi. Transfer rates of video and pictures were MUCH faster with this bridge compared to the 1525 and much more inline with what I expected from a wireless N network.Cons:The webpage/manual setup is awful, the information is buried and there are very few useable settings you can adjust. However there is a pairing feature (which I didn't use) that may make things more straightforward.NOTE - If you're using this same setup with an XBox360 and get a restricted NAT or Moderate NAT setting from XBoxLive, you do NOT have to manually open the ports on the E4200 - Go to the E4200's firewall settings and disable multicast blocking. XBoxlive will work fine after that!

You get what you pay for and I wasted $57 on this router. Its wireless signal is weak and unstable. The router itself is slow. Worst of all, the thing just hangs randomly and without warning -- sometimes wireless stops working, sometimes the entire router just stops working. In either case, it requires power-cycling to get it going again. This happens every week or so. I now have the ASUS Dark Knight wireless router and the difference is dramatic! Too bad for D-Link because I was loyal to them for many years but they have lost their way.

I'm not sure why a lot of the other reviews on here are so negative. I bought this router as an impulse purchase, and I love it! Setup was a breeze, and it's been working all day just fine. No dropped connections and no unexpected glitches. I'm guessing that whatever issues were affecting these routers 3 and 4 years ago have been fixed. (I see that most of the negative reviews on here are from '08 and '09.) I would recommend this to anyone who's looking for a solid router that can handle multiple devices on a home network. I tested this thing by streaming a movie on my PS3 via Amazon Primes while downloading some music from iTunes on my PC and streaming a movie on my iPad via Netflix. There was no hiccups, no pauses, the movies played perfectly in HD, and the album I downloaded on iTunes was done in less than five minutes. Compared to some of the same kind of routers made by Netgear or Cysco, this one offers the biggest bang for the cheapest buck! I love it! (And no, D-Link did not pay me to write this positive review.)

I had a DIR-625 and loved the range. The RangeBooster technology of the 625 was great. This router has some issues with range. I lose some signal strength when I go 30 feet away, and didn't have that issue with the 625. The 2.4 Ghz band seems to not have the signal strength issue as much as the 5 Ghz band does. Still, it is a great router. Can't complain about the dual 300-Mbps channels for wireless, and the GB wired ports rock. For the money, this is a good router.

I just read all the negative reviews from people complaining about dropped connections, slow downloads, and outright equipment failures.Huh? Am I using the same router as these other people? I bought mine from Amazon nearly 18 months ago. I haven't had a single problem. No lost connections. No slow speeds. I've been using it for a combination of wired and wireless connections in a two-bedroom apartment. Everything in the apartment connects with no difficulty, and I can even leave the apartment and still connect over short distances. On a couple of occasions, I've had to reset my modem and have also reset the router (by pulling the power supply and reconnecting), but that's the extent of the troubleshooting. The set-up was very simple and straightforward. It took only a few minutes. Since then, I have used the router to connect Windows PC's, Mac's, iPads, Kindle Fires, and Roku boxes. It's easy. Portable devices that balk at connecting to other wifi hotspots have no difficulty with this router. I have not tried the SharePort function with a printer, but that's about all I can't vouch for.Just to put this into context, I'm 64, have some technical skills which are fading, and was not in the least interested in fussing with any of his. The router didn't disappoint. Of course, I named my router Optimus Prime. Maybe it was that that turned the trick. This is a very good router at an excellent price. Don't believe all the sourpuss reviews.I hope this helps.

As you might have guessed, we're overly high-tech at this house. I needed eight ports for devices and there aren't many choices out there. What I also got with this router has been a much better wi-fi experience too. This device signal reaches out about 100 feet in all directions, including through walls. Additionally, it's fast. Real fast. Quite frankly, I don't discern much difference between wired and wireless now.

The install disk is worthless. The wired and wireless connections are slow and the wireless signal is constantly disconnected even with a very strong signal. You'll spend more time "retrying" to connect than you will surfing.

I bought D-Link wireless router to use my laptop anywhere in my house, but my grandson set it up for his X-Box, also. It works great, with no problems for more than two months. I would definetly buy another one again. Great product.

After reading reviews that listed problems with this product, plus fixes, I was ready to try the fixes listed. This turned out to be unnecessary in my case. The router works just fine, with no reliability issues.
