Not suitable for high quantity printing. Ridiculously difficult to put in the ink cartridge without breaking it. Haven't used it at all!

The prints look just like the photos you get at a photo lab. A tad smaller, as many have said, maybe 1/8" narrower and 1/16" shorter than the standard 4x6. Quality-wise, vibrant color and good detail, just as a lab print. Photos are coated with a waterproof and UV-resistant layer.Cost, ~26 cents a photo (or a bit more if you take printer cost into account, which you should), worth the convenience. The paper/ink kit to buy is Canon E-P100 with two 50-page cartridges. Caution, the E-series printers are not compatible with the paper kits for the CP-series.As in all dye-sub printers, you make exactly the number of photos indicated on the cartridge, no matter the color coverage. You won't run out of ink before the paper, because the "ink" is in a film form sized just for the paper. For that same reason, you don't need to worry about ink drying in a printer left unused for a while. It will be just as ready to print months from now as it is today. Just keep it away from dust.A 3:2 format photo - as from a DSLR - fits the 4x6 paper better than one from your common point-and-shoot 4:3 camera, which will have to get chopped top and bottom or printed with white space on the sides to fit. You already know this if you have ever had photos done at a lab. You can choose how this is done using the LCD and you can even print a portion of the picture. The scrolling wheel is useful at going through many pictures. The LCD is better than the older CP models, but still can't be used to gauge colors. The menu has options for automatic or manual color adjustments (saturation, contrast, brightness, that sort of thing). Useful thing too, as some of the photos came out a bit too saturated. You can add borders or print a month calendar alongside your photo if you want. You can print straight from a memory card, which I suspect will be the mode used by most. It supports many memory cards, Compact Flash, SDHC and Memory Stick for sure. There is a dedicated slot for the mini versions of the latter two cards so you won't need an adapter. Insert the card, select the photos, edit if you need then print. Alternatively, you can prepare a "print order" right in the camera: when you view your images in PLAY mode look for a "Print" or "DPOF Print" option. Then stick the card in the printer and it will get to work automatically.Another way is to hook the camera directly to the printer and use the so-called PictBridge mode. This way you can send photos from the camera to the printer over the USB cable. I do not find this mode very useful, as it wastes camera battery. You can also print wirelessly, straight from your phone or laptop, by sending photos to the printer via Bluetooth. Canon says to buy the BU-30 adapter but I am happy to report that a 3rd party laptop Bluetooth adapter worked just fine for me.Finally, you can print from the computer via USB, for which Canon provides a CD with software (Win/Mac). Didn't try this yet. Not supported by Linux currently. Possibly a later version of Gutenprint-cups may know this printer, that's the Linux print driver to use for the Selphy printers.Major plus over the CP-series is that the ink and paper come in one cartridge which can hold 50 photos (the CPs use a lower capacity external paper tray). Also, the power adapter is integrated and all you need is a power cable. This is a step forward towards a portable solution. However, Canon took two additional steps back by making this printer roughly twice as large and twice as heavy as say, the CP-760 model with tray and power adapter. See the product photo I uploaded. That is the reason for the four stars. This isn't something I want to take in my backpack on a trip or on a flight, though I would definitely take it in a car and the convenience of having 50 photos packed inside is not to be overlooked. The ES-30 is slower in printing than the CP-760 by a good ten seconds, taking almost a full minute for each photo. As I patiently waited for my first print, it became quite clear why it is so, and also discovered the reason for the hefty weight. The printer spends all that extra time doing some alarming gymnastics with the paper in order to position it where the CP-760 already has it. I could barely stop myself from grabbing that first paper as it was slowly pushed out the front slot, almost all the way, then rotated in place like a card being dealt, finally coming to rest in a crooked orientation which brought flashbacks of horribly torn laser printouts caused by bad manual feeders, while the printer whines some more so as to confirm my growing suspicion that it has failed to grab the paper. But as I move to try to "fix" the problem, the printer snatches it and goes to print as if nothing happened. Turns out, that is how it works, and there is no cause for alarm, although I learned to protect it from similar instincts of well-intended friends seeing it print for the first time. Other than that, it's quite entertaining to watch it work.

We purchased this printer over a year ago. While I'm the resident photographer, I rarely print photos. But my wife likes to have a picture that she can hold in her hand or give to someone - so I print up lots of 'em for her. Now, this is a terrific, compact printer. Easy to set up and easy to use - just as Canon claims. Prints are a tad bit pricey when factoring in the paper, cartridges, etc. But the convenience far outweighs the minor cost difference from other printers. And the quality/sharpness of the prints is excellent for their intended purpose.INTERMITENT PAPER-LOAD PROBELM SOLVED: After a few months, the paper would occasionally refuse to load from the tray to the printer. There are three grey pinch-rollers just inside the tray-door that pull the paper into the printer. With use they tend to loose their grip on the slick paper. If you gently rough them up a bit with your thumb and forefinger and reload the tray, your problem should be solved. It was for us. Apparently this is a common failing - the only one we've had with the unit - and is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.Overall we are very pleased with the quality, reliability and user-friendliness of the SELPHY CP800.

I bought this printer specifically because the ink doesn't run dry. I tend to print in small batches, with 6 or more months in between printings. This system will cost me less per print in the long run because the ink will not dry up as compared to an inkjet printer.I'm very impressed with the quality of the prints! Canon nailed it here, and this is where it counts. The colors are vivid but natural and the detail is great. Photos come out sharp. An impressive feature of this printer is the built-in printer adjustments. I used my Nikon D3100 camera to shoot a friend's newborn baby. Then I placed the SD card in the Selphy and noticed that the baby was too pink because of incorrect camera settings. No problem, because the Selphy has a printer adjustment, the "My Colors" setting. I set it to "Neutral" and just like that the pink skin became a natural creamy tone without desaturating the bright blue of his baby clothes. This setting, by the way, is exactly what one would adjust in a Canon camera to get a natural skin tone, and it's great that Canon included that technology here in this printer.Because of the in-printer adjustments, I wouldn't need to print from my computer unless I were doing some major editing or cropping. The Selphy doesn't come with a cable to connect to the PC but it's a common USB 2.0 cable and I happened to have an extra laying around. I didn't touch the CD that it came with. Instead I downloaded the latest drivers (drivers only, without the software) directly from Canon. Installed easily and works great with my computer running Windows 7.Overall I'm very happy with this purchase!

I'm not one to leave reviews, but if you want to use this linked via USB to a Mac it's important for you to know that it won't work. The installation CD does have a MAC installer but it doesn't work.
If you look for the issue on the web you'll see various fixes that include changing a line of java script from another driver- This didn't work either.
That said if you want to use it standalone printing via an SD card then away you go. The colours looked fine to me.
I bought mine in the UK but I live in West Africa, and decided not to unbox it until we'd flown back here. If I was still in the UK I'd have sent it back.
Poor show by Canon in my opinion.

The printer was all I expected however to find that I then to had to pay for ink and paper to even try this out, took the gloss off of the purchase!! Until I then paid for these purchases I could not try and see if the printer worked. Not happy to say the least. There was no indication that the printer would arrive without even sample ink and paper was a surprise!!!

I had an H.P printer which had more options included and was an easier shape to carry and to use, but it had seized up. The Selphy CP900 is awkward and cumbersome to carry and store, and the cartridge for the paper is a bit of a nuisance as it sticks out, the screen is small, it did print out a very clear photo and I haven't had much time to use it at the moment, I also think it may be expenive to use, I also have some photo paper which I can't use with it but I have got it now so will have to make the best of it. I wouldn't recomend it.

I got this photo printer after trying out at friend's place. It offers good quality - I printed photos shot by a M43 camera, DSLR and iphone. Photos printed are almost having the same quality as I printed from other digital print service for 5*7 size. For iphone, it's fun to get wireless connect which means you can send the photo taken one sec ago and get it printed out! However, as iphone shots indoor with less favourate lighting, it will of course not as great as photo shot by a proper camera. Still, it's handy and it's fund!
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a photo printer for family use!

packaged arrived, description fine, all good so far. I am obviously a bit of a ditz and didn't read things fully as I expected (hoped?) for a starter pack of photo paper and/or ink cassette to be included. as a result I now have to wait until I can get to the shops or order a kit online and await delivery before I can try it out and see if it is what I wanted. Should have thought better and sooner.

I print a lot of pictures, so I thought this was a good idea. If I print from the memory card, it will cut off some of the picture.(Half a face, the cool tree on the side...just gone) I've played around with the settings (boarder-less, or boarders) and couldn't find a way around this. So, I had to install the software and hook it to my computer. (No longer portable printer). The software is a joke. Extremely slow, and it's not my computer. (Asus Republic of Gamers i7 laptop with 16GB ram, USB 3.0 125GB SSD, Windows 7). It takes forever to scan through and pick up all my pictures, and it has to do this every time I start the program. Most times I just get little blank squares, and have to close the program and restart it. It does allow you to move the picture and pick what you want it to cut off, but it will not scale it. So, I have to go to Photoshop, change the image size, save it, wait for the printer software to find the picture, then wait for it to print. Kind defeats the purpose of 'quick printing at home'. The pictures are clear, and pretty when they finally print though, have to give it that. I have had quite a few pictures (12 total now) that when I click print, the printer will just spit out the white card, not printing a picture on it. I thought I could just put the paper back in and try again, but no, the ink for that picture is gone, so it is wasted. I'm not real sure why it's doing this. I guess it's okay for the price, and what it is. If I had the chance to use one before ordering, I would not have bought this. But it is what it is. I will keep sending my pictures to Snapfish for now, and use this for the one of two pictures I want to print at home.

I bought this USB cord thinking that it might allow me to finally print photos from my MacBook to the Canon Selphy ES40. I tried from 3 different MacBooks including the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air, and a regular MacBook. None of the three Macs seemed to be compatible with the ES40. I was unable to print anything. In fact it almost seemed as if the ES40 didn't recognize the MacBooks and it certainly didn't find or print the pictures I was attempting to print. I was really hoping that this would be the answer to my situation, since I have only been able to use the ES40 directly with my memory card from my camera alone. I also have yet to find where I might be able to print from my iPhone 4 to the ES40, but have been unsuccessful in finding an answer to that one as well. While the ES40 does print nice quality pictures, I am very frustrated with its limitations. If Canon is going to build a device that is specific to printing pictures solely, then it should be compatible with both Windows and Mac computers. It's a bum deal. Especially if you are like me and you take a ton of pics with your iPhone and then have those same pics on your MacBook.....either way, you can't seem to get the ES40 to be compatible with either device. I was hoping this USB cord would work, but I hate to say it......It has failed me. Not a happy customer with Canon. Next time I'll be sure to find a NICE printer that works with my Mac! Don't waste your money if you are a Apple person.....it's not worth the frustration!

I bought this printer for my wife last X-mas, as an alternative to the more time consuming "save pictures to disk / drive to a store / find a machine that works / drive back home / realize you forgot to print a picture" sequence that we had adopted until then each time we wanted to send a few photos. My main concern was the quality of the prints, but so far (>100 photos) it has exceeded my expectations! I even find the quality better than with most stores. Very sharp images with great color rendition once you find the best camera(s) acombination of settings between you nd the printer. For example I noticed that shooting images in "vivid" mode with my point&shoot and printing in "auto correct colors" mode made for a 'digital' look, so now I shoot in "Neutral" and the pictures look more natural. The printer feels very well built, instructions and menu are fairly simple, and it takes only a minute to set it up. The screen is great to navigate the menu but too small to really view your pictures. The total cost per print is a little higher than you could get in store, but when you factor in the time & gas needed I find the comfort of home printing (and higher print quality) very much worth the slight premium! So why only 4 stars? You can NOT print images that have been modified (e.g. cropped) unless this was done using the camera's editing toolYou can only print photos taken with a Canon camera -no printing photos taken by your guests
