We bought this little gem in November of 2010 for a trip to Ethiopia. We also bought the battery as power is always questionable. And at 2 lbs it is easy to put in the carryon - even with all of the restrictions these days. How fabulous to be able to take a picture with someone or pics of the kids - print them and give them away :)It has now been back an forth to Ethiopia 3 times printing everywhere. The print quality is as good as my home printer. It isn't cheap per print - but the portability is priceless. It even helped us get through security in Addis Ababa. When we were questioned about all of the electronics and the suitcases of donations we had brought for local orphanages, we snapped a pic of the officer and printed it for him. He was so impressed we sailed through!

I was a little leary about purchasing this product - until I received it, and I knew I made the correct choice. The first reason I picked this printer is, I'm a Canon loyalist when it came to my photography equipment. So, I took a chance with the printer. I knew I wanted a dye sublimation printer, and the larger print printers were far more expensive. So, before investing several thousand, I wanted to try a smaller printer and test out the quality difference. And different it is! Dye sublimation just ROCKED my world. I've had bubble jet, ink jet, laser jet, dot matrix... you name it. Granted, there are some fantastic ink jet and laser jet printers out there that produce great prints, the biggest seller for me was simple. It was the print quality and process. Say you take a gorgeous image with lots of vibrant colors, and print it on a jet printer. When it comes out, you have to let it sit there for a few minutes, cause you can literally see the ink sitting ON the paper. And as that ink soaks in, the color changes - dramatically. Sometimes better; sometimes worse. And good golly, you had better not put your finger on that ink prior to it soaking in and drying! With the dye sublimation, what you see is what you get! The colors are vibrant, rich, and pure tones in the hues. There's no drying time needed. You can grab it straight from the printer, and instantly into a frame without worrying if it will damage the image. It really is an amazing process, and it's a great product. It's completely idiot proof. The second reason I bought this printer is, you can purchase the supplies anywhere. Granted, they're more expensive in the local retailer than online, but if you're in a pinch - and least the pinch won't hurt too bad.The third reason I chose this printer, it takes multiple mediums. In other words, you can use pretty much any memory stick or card - there's probably a slot for it. AND it also allows for tether. What's tether, you ask? If you have a digital camera that can link to a computer via USB, then it can link to the printer. Print straight from the camera. Or you can use the program that came with it, and print from the computer. The tether feature was a great bonus for me.Lastly, I bought the product on Amazon because I searched, and searched, and searched... this is hands down, the best price!! You may be able to find it on Craigslist for a couple bucks less... but why save $5 on a used product, when you can spend that $5 and get it new? But, hey... that's just one person's opinion.I hope you all enjoy the printer has much as I have! I printed all my Christmas cards on it, no fuss, no mess, no fighting off people in a portrait studio. AND it was out in people's mail boxes in a timely manner!! You can't beat that with a stick!

It's a great printer, but there is a significant issue with the printing software. One of the printing options is a photo calendar, with a variety of possible layouts. When I tried to print a June 2012 calendar, the header on the calendar came out as "6 2012." Every non-Canon calendar I've ever seen lists the name of a month using alphabetical letters at the top of the calendar page, not a number.I was blown away when I contacted Canon tech support and was told this is how the software functions. You select your desired month, such as "June" from a pull-down menu, and then the month gets printed as a number instead of the month's name. ?!?!?!?!? It's a huge disappointment to have a significant chunk of the software features essentially worthless to me. Do calendars in other countries not list the month's name at the top of each month's page?!? Why would they do this?

This little printer has the best color to it. I have only printed about 10 pictures, but they have come out beautiful. The process is interesting as it takes the paperand brings it in & out to add each color to it. Such as you see the picture in yellow first, then red, with blue and then a grey and your picture is done. I have not used the index orcollage settings on the computer yet.I recommend this computer if you do not want larger than 4X6 prints, and you can take it with youprint right from it anywhere there is electricity. I do not plan on purchasing the battery.

This printer is great for small here and there pictures that I want printed. I have a photo printer I used before but in the end this is more cost effective. To print about the same amout I have to buy 2 differenet inks plus photo paper about $75.I would only use this for small jobs because sometimes it doesnt accecpt some of the pictures on ur card. Easy fix for that is if u open up the pic in windows paint and "save as" and save as a jpeg. Pain in the butt but it worked for me :) over all I'm pretty happy with this printer for what I use it for, I got it in a pkg deal when I bought my canon rebel for a sick price!

I liked this product, very easy, small in size, light weight, crisp prints ,reasonable price and medium-low consumable cost. All components came in white (cable, printer and adapter) and looks Appleish style.I searched every where for good thermal printer and took lot of time till I decided to buy SELPHY 800. You can print without software installation. the software that came with the printer is not that much complicated (straight forward) but you can't change the date/time format from the the supplied software so you should do it from the printer itself. you will get only 5 papers pack and one ink cartridge for 5 prints. the lcd could be more clear than this but still did the job.I recommend this printer for home and office uses.

MY HUSBAND PURCHASED THIS PHOTO DEVELOPER TO REPLACE OUR LEXMARK MODEL THAT STARTED DEVELOPING ONLY THE LEFT SIDE OF HIS PHOTOS. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS INSERT YOUR CAMERA MEMORY CHIP INTO THE DEVELOPER AND SELECT YOUR PHOTOS YOU WANT DEVELOPED. YOU GET 4" X 6" PHOTOS THAT ARE SO CRISP AND BEAUTIFUL. THIS DEVELOPER RUNS THE PHOTO PAPER INCLUDED WITH THE INK CARTRIDGES. IT RUNS IT THROUGH THE DEVELOPER 4 TIMES. BLUE, YELLOW, RED, AND FINALLY BLACK. THEN RELEASES THE COMPLETED PHOTO. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE WHO WANTS THEIR PHOTOS RIGHT AWAY TO SHARE OR TO DISPLAY.

Don't be put off by the 300dpi rating of this printer. The dye-sublimation technology prints dots of actual color, as opposed to inkjets who need a lot more dpi because they sputter many microscopic single-color droplets over the "dot" space to make it appear as a single color from a normal viewing distance. The CP-760 photos are indistinguishable from the ones you order at a photo lab. It does need special Canon-made paper and ink packs, but the Canon KP-108IN Color Ink Paper Set (3115B001) has everything you need for printing 108 4x6 photos at a cost of about 27 cents each (or perhaps a bit more if you take printer cost into account, which you should). Worth the convenience compared to walking to the store, especially when you only want a print or two.The consumables are for exactly the number of photos they say they are, it does not matter how much or how little color is in the photo. The "ink pack" contains a roll of 4" wide film with 6"-long sections in each color (yellow, magenta and cyan) followed by a 6" clear coat, of exactly the number needed to make the number of photos indicated. After printing, each section ends up with a negative of that color from the image so it can't be reused. I imagine one could recover the photos from the discarded negatives, so if that is a problem, you should yank the film out after it's "empty" and dispose of it in some other way than throwing the cartridge in the trash.Size-wise, a 3:2 format photo (as from a DSLR) fits the 4x6 paper better than the standard 4:3 format found in most digicams, which will get chopped top and bottom. Color came out very nice. You can print 8 images in one photo if you want to check the color levels. The LCD is low-res and should not be used to judge image color under any circumstances, luckily there is little the LCD can do that you can't do from a camera. You can print straight from a memory card, using the clunky image selection interface on the LCD that does not allow for much control. Or you could prepare a "print order" in the camera, so called DPOF. As you view your images in camera in PLAY mode, look for a "Print" or "DPOF Print" in the image MENU. Then follow the prompts. When you're done take the card out and put it in the printer, who will execute your "print order".Another way is to connect the camera directly to the printer with the camera's USB cable, if the camera supports a "print mode" on the dial (PictBridge), most do. In this mode you can also choose 2-up or 4-up modes and once you push "Print" it will send them straight to the printer. Nice but wastes camera battery. You can also print wirelessly, straight from your phone or laptop, by sending photos to the printer via Bluetooth. Canon says to buy the BU-30 adapter for that, but I had an Iogear Bluetooth USB adapter (GBU311) lying around from an old laptop and had to try it. I am happy to report that it works just fine in this printer and I could print from my phone, which may suggest that there is a good chance any USB Bluetooth adapter might work. Finally, you can print from the computer via USB. There is a CD with software for Mac and Windows which I haven't tried yet.It works with Linux. Gutenprint-cups 5.2.4 knows of some CP models but not this particular one, so you need to select the driver manually as Canon SELPHY-CP-520 CUPS+Gutenprint (note that 750, which is the closest model, does NOT work). There's also a gutenprint-plugin package that allows printing directly from GIMP. With these I recommend scaling the image to the paper size prior to printing, to avoid visible aliasing that happens when you let the driver do the scaling. In GIMP, resize with Lanczos(Sinc) to a width of 1740 (3.9") or a height of 1170 (5.8"), then apply a bit of unsharp mask if necessary.I can't tell from the Canon product chart what is different in the new models outside of physical appearance and some gimmick software features (borders and such), because the CP series are all dye-sub 300 dpi printers using the same ink and paper. So given that the 760 is at a very sweet price point at Crutchfield right now, if you don't need a bucket or option for optional battery, I'd say go for it.

We don't print out a lot of pictures but I did want a quick/convenient way to print some to throw in b-day cards or to the grandparents....this is PERFECT!! My favorite part is I haven't even hooked it up to my computer, I just throw in my cannon SD card and print straight from that. I'm not a super high tech person so this works great for us. I did the math and after I factored in time, gas this saves me money.

Received this printer as a gift and loved the quality of the photos UNTIL one of the ink cartridges developed a problem. This printer uses a layered film system which produces great color but if a piece breaks off there is nothing you can do. I took it to a friend who knows small electronics and they took it apart and pulled out several tiny pieces of the film that had broken off. They cleaned the machine and I took it home and put in a new cartridge and it happened again. I now have a box of film and paper and no printer. Another bad feature is it also uses special paper so you have to buy the paper/ink combo packs.

I calculated the price difference between this and ordering prints online or Target. It's about 10-15 cents per print more (not including the price of the machine). So it definitely won't save you money. But if you are just printing a picture here and there it is so convenient and fast. Especially when scrapbooking, it is so much easier to just print the picture you need right away rather than have to wait. I am definitely pleased with this purchase!

Make sure to order at least one pak of paper/ink with this as it does not come with any in the box.Ok so you are thinking about buying one of these little gems. I purchased one of these the other day for the Santa Claus gigs I do. I am a professional Santa and this year we have added the ability to get a picture with Santa. I needed something compact with good quality and good speed. After reading about all differnt types of printers I decided to go with this one. This is not the first dye sub printer I have purchased so I knew a bit about them before. Lets start with setting it up, out of the box you plug it in load the paper pak and away you go. Open the side door to load the paper pack which comes as 1 unit paper and dye sub ink all in one piece. It slides right into the printer only 1 way it can go no way to screw this part up. Now either connect a camera directly through the USB Pictbridge connector or you can just pop in your memeory card. If using a memory card the pictures come right up on the screen and you scroll to the one you want and push print. Within 43 seconds from the time you hit the button you have a very nice very sharp picture.(even better than a print form your local picture printing loaction) When printing directly from your camera you tell your Pictbridge enabled camera to print and it prints in the same speed from the camera. Now the only down side with printing directly from the camera is that you have to wait for it to completly print before you can take another picture. For our Santa pics we do not have time to wait so I have interfaced my DSLR camera through a computer to speed up the process. So there is the basics in a nut shell but it does more. You can do some basic editing of your pictures like cropping and so forth. There are preloaded boarders you an choose directly from the printer to add a little zip to your pictures. It even has voice prompts, yes you read that correclty voice prompts. You can also choose to print the picture in a few ways like 2 on one page or many thumbnails like a contact sheet. There is software that comes with it but I have not even used it yet. There are differnt types of paper paks that Canon makes for this some with pre printed boarders like for Christmas, or foil print ones that will do a gold or silver type boarder. The pictures will last for many years they are rated for 100 years before fading also these pictures can be completly submerged in water and will not destroy them. So go give it a go you will not be sorry that you purchased this.

It slid in easily so there was no warning it was in wrong until it was too late. No warning in the manual, in fact, there was not even good instructions in the manual. It broke down right as I was trying to make photo invitations to a party. I use this as a stand-alone photo printer, i.e. I don't have it hooked up to a computer, for printing a few pictures for friends and family when I'm at parties or family gatherings. It is small and compact, so I don't have any problems packing it up and taking it with my other photo equipment. I don't have a battery pack as I can generally find an outlet to use.The photo quality is good, not great. You really need to keep your photo paper clean and lint free. The first photo I print generally has several lint lines on it; following photos get better. I find this type of printer to be better than ink-jet types in terms of photo durability. I have an HP all-in-one photo rated printer, and the photos will smear if water gets on the photo. These hold up fine against water. It takes a bit of time for a photo to print out, about a minute. Not too bad, and the kids like to watch it as it passes through the different colors. Just make sure the younger ones don't grab the photo while it is still printing. It's also fun to look at the spent dye film, so there's some entertainment value there.Good enough for what I do.
