One of the best things I liked before I bought this was the low cost of the Printer and most of all, the low cost of the supplies (You can find 108 prints for less than $20). The quality this printer puts out, is incredible and instant. You cannot go wrong with this this printer if you want the quality of a photo lab and the convenience of instant gratification right at your fingertips. If you wish to see a demonstration of how this printer works, visit YouTube and search for Canon Selphy CP800 photo printer. You will get to see exactly how long it takes to produce a photo from start to finish. I also like that you don't have to rely on your computer to print. You can print from a number of different memory cards. The last printer I had was a Sony Dye Sublimation printer and strickly connected to the PC only and relied on software made for Windows XP. When Windows Vista came along and Sony decided not to support drivers for the printer in Windows Vista. I was left with a useless piece of electronics. With this Canon, you can print from a variety of sources so you are in good shape when it comes to changes. I buy smarter these days than I use to, mostly from learning hard lessons like that Sony incident. I try hard not to make the same mistakes twice. This printer is a good purchase and I feel I've made a good decision in buying it. You will too!

This printer does exactly what it is advertised to do.It is easy to set up. It is easy to use. The photographs looks very good. The 4 x 6 photos print in about a minute. Supposedly they last for many, many years. The viewing screen is large enough and looks good. There are basic operations, such as red eye reduction and back-light correction that are useful and easy to use. You can also print in black and white or sepia which is something I like to do, so I appreciate that ability. The owner's manual makes sense and is easy to comprehend, and is not overly complicated. Inserting the ink cartridge and the paper is easy.I didn't hook this printer up to my computer. I use it with memory cards. It is very easy to use with memory cards. I have not and do not plan to plug it into my computer, so I have no experience with that ability of the machine. In short, this thing does exactly what the Amazon description and Canon advertising says it will do.The only problem I see is the cost of the prints. Each 4 x 6 print will cost about 25-30 cents, which isn't overly high, but it is more than twice what I can get prints made for in local stores. Add the cost of the machine, and that will be pretty expensive. However, that cost isn't any surprise, as it can be figured BEFORE you buy this machine. My wife has commandeered this machine to use for "scrap booking" and she finds it very useful to be able to get any picture she wants, when she wants it, by sticking a memory card in the machine and printing out the few pictures she wants. And she doesn't have to wait around for someone else to develop the pictures and get them back to us. The machine is also very compact and easy to carry around with all of her other scrap booking stuff when she goes to her scrap booking "parties." For that type of use, this is an excellent machine. As I have had this machine for less than a month, I can not comment on its long-term reliability, but it does seem to be built very well. However, the only other Canon printer I have ever owned did not fare so well in long term reliability, so that does concern me. (Note in the past, if you search my reviews, I have given a Canon printer a 1-star review because it died way too soon.)Personally, I would like a machine that prints 5 x 7's. If I was buying a printer, I would buy one that has the ability to print 5 x 7's. But I was given this machine, so I can't really complain about that.To sum up, this machine appears to be an excellent choice for anyone who wants 4 x 6 prints. It works exactly as Canon says it does. It works well. It makes very good prints. But I think the per-print cost to be a bit high, so I knocked the rating down to four stars.

Well I have to say that I am very impress with the quality of the pictures. I personally think that the photos are great & maybe even better than any other place that develops photos. It is very easy to install to your computer. The con is that it doesn't come in with the USB cable for your PC; you need to buy that separate.

This printer could not be any easier to load "dye sub ink" or paper. Makes beautiful prints with one touch of a button in under a minute. I was concerned when I read some reviews about not being able to print post processed photo's. I use a Canon DSLR with "L" lenses and shoot only in RAW so print quality is very important to me. Although you can print RAW right from the camera attached to the printer via USB, you can not print RAW from a SD card, must be JPEG from SD cards. I post process my RAW pictures in Lightroom 3 and then save as a JPEG photo and as long as the EXIF information remains with the image the instructions say you can print the photo. I then drag and drop the post processed JPEG photo onto a thumb drive inserted into a USB port on my computer. I take the thumb drive and plug into the printer and the printer recognizes the thumb drive and you choose what you want to print from the little LCD screen on the printer. I have had a few inkjet printers but always found some problems when wanting to print a photo after non use for a time. Seems I was always out of ink on one of the five colors or the jets were clogged, always something. I hope this dye sub system will eliminate all of that. So far (5 pictures) I can't find anything about it not to like, the prints are very high quality. I never installed the software that came with the printer as I have all sorts of photo programs, so I can't comment on that.

I purchased this printer last July (2011) and it worked as long as I had Mac OS 10.6 on my Macbook Pro. Before installing OS 10.7, I called Canon and inquired if and when the printer drivers for Mac OS 10.7 would be available. I was told last summer that it was in the works and to expect it soon. Here it is late February and it still is not available. Since I needed to go ahead with the 10.7 install, the printer is worthless unless I go direct with a card. That defeats the purpose of using photo editing software. I recently wrote a review of the printer on Canon's website and it was rejected. They told me to submit it again. Again it was rejected. Their guidelines, which I followed, do not state that all reviews must be positive. Apparently they don't follow their own guidelines and do not want any negative reviews. I am very disappointed in Canon and most likely will not purchase their products in the future.

Lightweight for travel, which is the reason I purchased it.....simple to use, and produces great prints! I was able to present the nomadic people (Mongolia) who allowed me to photograph them with prints of their images the same day.....eventually, my driver was asking for photos and so were his friends....some of my most wonderful memories of this trip were the ones when I gave someone their image, and they were so thankful...

I have owed several printers and this one is by far the best. I only wish the ink and paper could be purchased somewhere other than just Amazon.com. That isn't always convenient for me.

According to several reviews for the Canon BU-30 Bluetooth Adapter for PIXMA MX850 that's required to make this printer connect to other devices via Bluetooth, it isn't compatible with IPhone. This is flat-out false advertising, if you ask me. This Amazon page says 'Print directly from your memory cards, compatible digital camera, USB Flash Drive or wirelessly from a Bluetooth enabled device' (and it's not even clear that you have to lay out an extra $50 for the adapter to make that work).Literally millions of people own IPhones, including myself. I ordered this product as a Gold Box special thinking (thanks to the misleading product description) that I'd use it around the house to print out photos from my phone. Good thing I procrastinated in ordering ink, paper and other supplies.I'll return it as soon as it gets here.EDIT: There's a Canon IPhone app that makes it possible for a person to print to a Canon printer from IPhone, but the list of supported Canon printers **does NOT include** the Selphy series. For more information on the handful of Canon printers that *are* supported by this app, search for "Canon" on the Apple Store. Update: I finally ordered an HP printer, which prints like a charm from the IPhone using the 'Print' button in the phone's browser.EDIT, April 2011: Edit to address issues with people who don't think it's important that this printer doesn't work as advertised: This item says very clearly in its description that you can print from a mobile device using Bluetooth. If it's not compatible with a device that currently has over 25% of the smartphone sales in the U.S., that information should be available up front, not buried in fine print. I suspect you'd feel differently if if you personally ordered this device, only to find it didn't work as advertised and you then had to go to the trouble - and pay the shipping - to send it back. I'd want someone to warn ME if the item description contained a substantial portion of misleading information, but if you think that's "unhelpful" then hit that button if you must.

This may be a good printer for simple home use. Does not belong in any professional environment.Canon has dumbed down the software excessively.Nearly impossible to use direct from Photoshop. No drivers available for download from Canon. Only the included CD for software.Opens an annoying loud "Selphy photo print app", that is of no help. The previous model CP510 worked great. Burned thru a couple of them.Would not buy this thing again. No way.

UPDATE: They did release an update and it worked with Lion and now works with Mountain Lion. While it took a while to get this update... I am back to printing photos that last and seem to be similar quality to photo processing centers. This printer makes nice presents for my family.Old 1 star review:Very disappointed... Canon does not support it's products for very long. While it prints decent quality and was priced fair. Not being able to go from my computer directly into the printer is a big let down. The CP800 fulfills all my needs. My needs are to be able to take portrait-like pictures at group functions and print them so people can have a copy right away. It prints excellent prints, is very compact and light, easy to use from a memory card, is realitively fast and fairly cheap (about 25-30 cents per picture.) I like the fact that it starts with the last picture on the memory card instead of the first so you don't have to cycle past a bunch of pictures you don't need prints of.I tired printing directly from the camera (Canon A3100) but it automatically printed a picture from the memory card when I plugged the cable into the camera before I even took a picture. I'm sure there are some setting that will control that but they weren't obvious. My expectation is that I could leave the cable connected and, as I took a picture, I could print it or not without taking the memory card out of the camera. Currently I just take a few pictures and swap memory cards so some can be printing while I'm taking more pictures. Workable but cumbersome. When/if I do get that working the camera-to-printer cable provided is relatively short (about 2 feet) so it doesn't give you a lot of flexibility in placement of the whole set up.Another slight down side is that the photo dimensions and the paper dimensions are not the same. Some portion of the top and bottom of a photo you take will not be printed so you have to adjust in your head to leave space when you take the picture.I really got this to upgrade from an older, non-Canon portable photo printer and the fact that Polaroid's aren't around any more. The old one was slow, wouldn't handle larger memory cards and was getting quirky. I had tried just buying a cheap inkjet printer which has more functionality but is just too big and bulky to cart around and ink cartridges are more expensive than the printer itself.I'm ordering the battery pack for it so I can be cord-free and even more portable. running power cables around where lots of people are walking is a definite pain so the battery will really be helpful if it works well.

Oh, I was so excited to buy this product, based on all the reviews I read; here on Amazon and elsewhere. So I ordered it. Oh well, I've lost money on other purchases as well. The unit is very easy to set up, and if you follow the beginner's guide, you can generally produce the prints you want with relative ease.Once I set the unit up, I was able to print out several photographs from my memory card. The prints are decent, though a bit washed-out compared to what you can generate via a printer. On day two and subsequent days, I was not able to generate any more photos. I tried over 10 (!!!!) memory cards, and each time, the screen reads: CANNOT READ DATA FROM MEMORY CARD. CHECK THAT THE MEMORY CARD CONTAINS IMAGES. They do.Well, that was it. I haven't been able to print anything on this since day one, as I get the same error message. Even when I connect the unit to my computer, I get error messages.Don't even get me started on what it was like trying to deal with customer service. Scratch that. There was no 'service' for this customer, just a lot of run-around which led to a representative who said something of the effect, "Gee, that's really strange."To read these other reviews, I may have got a bum unit, as buyers seem to be happy with the product. I was too until it petered out on me. I suspect part of it has to do with bugs in new technology.Oh well, I still have a printer attached to my printer. And Walgreens.

I got tired of uploading photos to the local Walgreens photo site and then going to pick them up (I'm not lazy, I promise, just wanted a more convenient option for printing photos). The cost per photo might be slightly higher using this canon printer, but I could not be happier. I no longer have to spend the time and gas and deal with the occasional irritation resulting from the Walgreens employees that pretend like they don't see me when I'm standing at the photo counter. Not to mention putting the baby in the car, dragging him in the store, and then back in the car just to pick up photos. This little printer is great. I can't tell any difference in quality, other than that you're using the photo paper with perforated ends that you break off, so the edges of the photo aren't quite as smooth as what you'd get at the local printer that you use. Not really noticeable unless you're looking for it though. I have printed directly from the card and the computer and both worked great. No need to install the Canon software, just add the printer and you're ready to go. The photos print fast--as simple as popping the memory card in, selecting your photos and hitting the print button (rather than transferring to computer, uploading to photo center website, driving to pick up, etc.). I have always loved Canon's printers and this one did not let me down.

I received this printer as a x-mas gift and i have to say i am very impressed with the quality pictures it makes. I like the option of printing 1-2-4-8 pics on one sheet of photo paper the 2 or 4 are perfect size pics for scrap-booking, I have yet to try the collage print option. The only reason i did not give it a 5 star is that its not compatible with ipad /iphone. another let down is that i cannot print pictures that i download to my computer...ex if i want to print a picture that someone sent over e-mail or fb it wont accept it...It only prints pics from my camera. If you really want to print pictures from any apple product i don't recommend this product but if you just want a printer that prints great quality photos this is the one.

Yes, I bought at Amazon a CANON SELPHY CP800.Just after I bought it, I couldn't print anything, because Canon doesn't provide the users of Apple with the drivers we need. When I asked Canon, I received the following answer:"Thank you for writing to us. We value you as a Canon customer andappreciate the opportunity to assist you with your compatibility inquiryregarding your SELPHY CP800.We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused.Unfortunately, The SELPHY CP800 is not compatible with the OS X Lionoperating system and drivers will not be engineered for this specificmodel. While considering the desire to provide the best possible support forCanon's current products in a timely manner, Canon must make decisionson which products to support when new operating systems are introduced. These decisions are generally based on the age of the product and thenumber of product estimated to be still in use. Once again, I doapologize for the inconvenience.".When I bought it, nobody told me it was useless with the new I Mac from Apple. Therefore, I lost my whole investment.I would not buy anything from Canon again!!!

Update: Holding the on button turns the unit off :-)This is pretty awesome and much smaller than I though which makes it more than ideal. About the size of my wingspan with my hand. I just got the printer today so I've only been printing for a little while but the quality is good. Easy setup too, plug it in (I don't have a battery yet), slip in a sim card from your camera, its the way I do it, and hit print. The print cartridge slides in easy as well as the print tray. One small very minor nusiance. Very minor but I'd like an off button. I had to unplug it get it to turn off. I suppose most would just leave it on but I like to turn things off :-) .Would reccomend. Thanks.PS: When I bought this for $69.99, I think it's one hell of a price.

First of all there are two types of personal photo printers. Ink Jet and Dye Sublimation. The Canon Selphy 800 is a Dye Sublimation printer. Why is this important? If you are not prepared to print pictures almost everyday, the Ink Jet printer nozzles will clog (dry) up. Then you have to run a head cleaning cycle. This wastes ink that should be used for printing pictures. Say your Ink Jet printer's cartridge is rated for 100 4x6 pictures before it has to be replaced. If you don't keep the nozzels moist and the head primed by printing frequent, and I mean frequent, pictures you will have to run a head cleaning cycle. This means you might end up printing 70 instead of 100 pictures with your printers new cartridge before it has to be replaced. Each time you perform head cleaning you waste ink. Dye Sublimation is a different animal. The dye is film based and never clogs heads. That means I can let my Selphy sit inactive for months and never have a problem with clogged heads or wasted ink. Given that there is little difference in the quality of prints printed with Ink Jet or Dye Sublimation, Dye Sublimation is a no brainer for me. You always get the rated number of pictures from a Selphy Cartridge. That is reason alone to buy a Canon Selphy printer.
