The CP800 fulfills all my needs. My needs are to be able to take portrait-like pictures at group functions and print them so people can have a copy right away. It prints excellent prints, is very compact and light, easy to use from a memory card, is realitively fast and fairly cheap (about 25-30 cents per picture.) I like the fact that it starts with the last picture on the memory card instead of the first so you don't have to cycle past a bunch of pictures you don't need prints of.I tired printing directly from the camera (Canon A3100) but it automatically printed a picture from the memory card when I plugged the cable into the camera before I even took a picture. I'm sure there are some setting that will control that but they weren't obvious. My expectation is that I could leave the cable connected and, as I took a picture, I could print it or not without taking the memory card out of the camera. Currently I just take a few pictures and swap memory cards so some can be printing while I'm taking more pictures. Workable but cumbersome. When/if I do get that working the camera-to-printer cable provided is relatively short (about 2 feet) so it doesn't give you a lot of flexibility in placement of the whole set up.Another slight down side is that the photo dimensions and the paper dimensions are not the same. Some portion of the top and bottom of a photo you take will not be printed so you have to adjust in your head to leave space when you take the picture.I really got this to upgrade from an older, non-Canon portable photo printer and the fact that Polaroid's aren't around any more. The old one was slow, wouldn't handle larger memory cards and was getting quirky. I had tried just buying a cheap inkjet printer which has more functionality but is just too big and bulky to cart around and ink cartridges are more expensive than the printer itself.I'm ordering the battery pack for it so I can be cord-free and even more portable. running power cables around where lots of people are walking is a definite pain so the battery will really be helpful if it works well.

Oh, I was so excited to buy this product, based on all the reviews I read; here on Amazon and elsewhere. So I ordered it. Oh well, I've lost money on other purchases as well.The unit is very easy to set up, and if you follow the beginner's guide, you can generally produce the prints you want with relative ease.Once I set the unit up, I was able to print out several photographs from my memory card. The prints are decent, though a bit washed-out compared to what you can generate via a printer.On day two and subsequent days, I was not able to generate any more photos. I tried over 10 (!!!!) memory cards, and each time, the screen reads: CANNOT READ DATA FROM MEMORY CARD. CHECK THAT THE MEMORY CARD CONTAINS IMAGES. They do.Well, that was it. I haven't been able to print anything on this since day one, as I get the same error message. Even when I connect the unit to my computer, I get error messages.Don't even get me started on what it was like trying to deal with customer service. Scratch that. There was no 'service' for this customer, just a lot of run-around which led to a representative who said something of the effect, "Gee, that's really strange."To read these other reviews, I may have got a bum unit, as buyers seem to be happy with the product. I was too until it petered out on me. I suspect part of it has to do with bugs in new technology.Oh well, I still have a printer attached to my printer.And Walgreens.

I got tired of uploading photos to the local Walgreens photo site and then going to pick them up (I'm not lazy, I promise, just wanted a more convenient option for printing photos). The cost per photo might be slightly higher using this canon printer, but I could not be happier. I no longer have to spend the time and gas and deal with the occasional irritation resulting from the Walgreens employees that pretend like they don't see me when I'm standing at the photo counter. Not to mention putting the baby in the car, dragging him in the store, and then back in the car just to pick up photos. This little printer is great. I can't tell any difference in quality, other than that you're using the photo paper with perforated ends that you break off, so the edges of the photo aren't quite as smooth as what you'd get at the local printer that you use. Not really noticeable unless you're looking for it though. I have printed directly from the card and the computer and both worked great. No need to install the Canon software, just add the printer and you're ready to go. The photos print fast--as simple as popping the memory card in, selecting your photos and hitting the print button (rather than transferring to computer, uploading to photo center website, driving to pick up, etc.). I have always loved Canon's printers and this one did not let me down.

I received this printer as a x-mas gift and i have to say i am very impressed with the quality pictures it makes. I like the option of printing 1-2-4-8 pics on one sheet of photo paper the 2 or 4 are perfect size pics for scrap-booking, I have yet to try the collage print option. The only reason i did not give it a 5 star is that its not compatible with ipad /iphone. another let down is that i cannot print pictures that i download to my computer...ex if i want to print a picture that someone sent over e-mail or fb it wont accept it...It only prints pics from my camera. If you really want to print pictures from any apple product i don't recommend this product but if you just want a printer that prints great quality photos this is the one.

Yes, I bought at Amazon a CANON SELPHY CP800.Just after I bought it, I couldn't print anything, because Canon doesn't provide the users of Apple with the drivers we need.When I asked Canon, I received the following answer:"Thank you for writing to us. We value you as a Canon customer andappreciate the opportunity to assist you with your compatibility inquiryregarding your SELPHY CP800.We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused.Unfortunately, The SELPHY CP800 is not compatible with the OS X Lionoperating system and drivers will not be engineered for this specificmodel.While considering the desire to provide the best possible support forCanon's current products in a timely manner, Canon must make decisionson which products to support when new operating systems are introduced.These decisions are generally based on the age of the product and thenumber of product estimated to be still in use. Once again, I doapologize for the inconvenience.".When I bought it, nobody told me it was useless with the new I Mac from Apple. Therefore, I lost my whole investment.I would not buy anything from Canon again!!!

Update: Holding the on button turns the unit off :-)This is pretty awesome and much smaller than I though which makes it more than ideal. About the size of my wingspan with my hand. I just got the printer today so I've only been printing for a little while but the quality is good. Easy setup too, plug it in (I don't have a battery yet), slip in a sim card from your camera, its the way I do it, and hit print. The print cartridge slides in easy as well as the print tray.One small very minor nusiance. Very minor but I'd like an off button. I had to unplug it get it to turn off. I suppose most would just leave it on but I like to turn things off :-) .Would reccomend. Thanks.PS: When I bought this for $69.99, I think it's one hell of a price.

First of all there are two types of personal photo printers. Ink Jet and Dye Sublimation. The Canon Selphy 800 is a Dye Sublimation printer. Why is this important? If you are not prepared to print pictures almost everyday, the Ink Jet printer nozzles will clog (dry) up. Then you have to run a head cleaning cycle. This wastes ink that should be used for printing pictures. Say your Ink Jet printer's cartridge is rated for 100 4x6 pictures before it has to be replaced. If you don't keep the nozzels moist and the head primed by printing frequent, and I mean frequent, pictures you will have to run a head cleaning cycle. This means you might end up printing 70 instead of 100 pictures with your printers new cartridge before it has to be replaced. Each time you perform head cleaning you waste ink. Dye Sublimation is a different animal. The dye is film based and never clogs heads. That means I can let my Selphy sit inactive for months and never have a problem with clogged heads or wasted ink. Given that there is little difference in the quality of prints printed with Ink Jet or Dye Sublimation, Dye Sublimation is a no brainer for me. You always get the rated number of pictures from a Selphy Cartridge. That is reason alone to buy a Canon Selphy printer.

I just got the Canon Selphy printer for Christmas. Disappointed that Canon couldnt include a full pack of paper and a full ink cartridge for the price. I mean come on....... 5 sheets????It prints great but will be costly to use as far as printing my own pictures for scrapbooking. Will probably still end up at Walgreens for those massive loads of prints I do during the year.Amazed that the ink cartridges are so big--- GO GREEN CANOn! Has to be a way!Having trouble with software it came with. Have yet to make that work on my computer!

This is a nice-looking printer that is easy to install. Print quality is good. HOWEVER, you cannot use regular 4x6 paper in this printer. You have to purchase Canon's paper. It is larger, with perforated edges. Sending the printer back.

I asked for this printer as a christmas present. I was told by a salesperson that i could plug my phone right into it, and print pictures, as well as through my computer, and insert a memory card. While the memory card worked perfectly, I could not print from my phone (which is what i take all of my pictures on, and the reason i wanted this printer in the first place). so i read the instruction booklet that comes with the printer and it says that i need a bluetooth adapter to be able to print wirelessly from my phone. $50 later, the bluetooth isnt capable with my phone. (iphone 4). so now my only option is to upload all of my photos onto the computer and plug the computer into the printer itself. i was then told that i needed a usb to usb cable. this is incorrect. after buying two wires to fix my problem, i am STILL unable to print pictures. i am a new mother, and have many pictures of my daughter, and family, which is the main reason why i wanted to have a small, compact, photo printer. i do not recommend anybody buy this printer. i wish the instruction book would have told me EXACTLY what i needed to make this work. or INCLUDE it in the package!! personally, i believe that if you spend money on a product, you should have all of the pieces to make it work correctly. DONT BUY THIS PHOTO PRINTER!!

My Canon Selphy CP510 died and I needed a replacement. I purchased a Canon Selphy CP800 to print out pictures of friends to include in their Christmas cards. It worked perfectly and the prints are clear. I would highly recommend this printer for anyone who just wants to print only photos. I was disappointed, however, when it didn't come with the cable to connect it to my computer. Fortunately, I had the cable from my other printer and transferred it. But it seems to me that something that vital should be included.

Ordered this to replace a Kodak printer since this + 200 sheets of paper costs less than buying more paper for Kodak printers now. Screen is very nice too.

I like this little printer. It prints a clear picture with vivid color.I would have given it 5 stars except for a couple of things that bother me (and I'll pass them along to you).I bought the black Selphy but it comes with white cords and I would have preferred black. Not sure what the reasoning was on that.The other thing is that it is super slow. Others had mentioned it but I figured I would give it a try.The size is good and I do like the pictures.....

I received the printer 12 noon 3/16/12, and it paid for itself by midnight. Truly a great machine, no complaints, and would definitely buy another one. Easy to use and prints great photos, and my customers love them.

The loading of paper was straightforward and the ink cartridge slid into place. I printed first without changing any settings and then went for a bordered image with smooth skin toning and vivid imagery and the colors really jumped off the paper.If you purchase the paper and ink from Amazon the cost per picture is around .26 per photo, and you will not be disappointed. You will however need to purchase a printer cable to connect to your computer since the printer doesn't come with one. This is the worst printer i have ever seen. First, you have to buy the specific paper and ink for the printer itself. It comes with 5 papers for a "test", which worked fine.I bought a 108 pack of paper and ink, and the machine jammed on 2 ink cartridges and actually cut the material for the cartridge, making it completely useless. That was the first cartridge.It jammed for the second cartridge and the machine said to turn off and back on again. When it came on, it ejected the stuck paper and the ink cartidge film stuck to the paper as it was forced out, making the second cartridge useless. And yes, i put the ink cartridge in the correct way. For the 3rd cartridge, yes, it is stuck AGAIN...btw, i double checked - the manual says to use the KP-108IN paper, and that is what i ordered.Essentially, i spent 30 dollars to print ZERO pictures. What a waste, do not buy this piece of junk.

It looks like Canon is largely leaving the Macintosh platform, so beware of buying any of their products with the hope to use them on Macs. This is not the only printer for which they have discontinued drivers. Many of their products do not work with the new Lion OS (10.7) including products which are only months old. It's left me with quite a lot of paper and ink which cannot be used with my new computer. My suggestion would be to stay away from not only their printers, but also cameras and other products, as they have determined that Windows will receive future driver support.

Why do I give this photo printer only one star? Because it's a total pain to use, that's why. Not the ACTUAL using of it, but the preparation and supplies.It only takes its OWN type of paper, and you can't get the paper or print cartridge at any office supply store (at least not that I've seen). You have to order it online. Huge pain in the rear. Everytime you want to print photos you must order their own special Canon paper and cartridge set - which doesn't last very long by the way and is about $20 once you pay for shipping. AND you cannot use ANYTHING except 4 x 6 paper. Nothing bigger, nothing smaller.Too restrictive and problematic for me. I would never buy this printer again.

I bought this printer for printing photos. I read the reviews and the only negative ones were that PC cropped images may not print as cropped and the slightly more per print cost. As to the first complaint, the manual indicates that PC cropped images may not print as cropped.The problem I had was with a Windows 7 install. No matter what I did, whether using the CD provided, downloading the drivers directly from Canon, switching user, etc., the printer would not install. Every time I tried to install it (after uninstalling the previously unsuccessful attempt), it showed up in printers and devices as a device other than a printer (identified as a Canon Selphy CP800). A call to Canon did not improve on this result (although the person was very courteous and went through a number of different steps with me).It installed easily on a Mac and Windows XP machine. So, I can use the printer, just not on the PC I primarily use. If you only have a Windows 7 machine, be forewarned.

I LOVE this photo printer! I have been using it to put my photos together in my scrapbook, and love the option to have multiple photos per single 4x6 sheet. Pictures are so bright and vibrant. Definitely would recommend this to anyone.
