This is a really good machine depending on what you want to use it for. I would think if you could wait for the prints from somewhere, it would be cheaper, but if you want them now, then this is great.

This printer is printing a dark line across every image that I print, this happens over wifi and from sd card. After checking amazon US it seems that a lot of people have the same problem. Aside from that the print quality really isn't that great and certainly not worth the expensive paper packs. I get better prints at a fraction of the cost from my full size printer.

I bought this because I was looking for something compact and the ability to print wirelessly from iPhone. I've returned the printer and will be buying a full size air printer which will at least enable me to print on higher quality paper for a lot cheaper.

A great many of the reviews here are misleading. Also, people seem reluctant to call Canon tech support, which provides information readily. There are drivers available, easily, on the Canon USA site, for Max OS X through 10.6.x (known as Snow Leopard). What I was told was that "engineering" is still working on a driver for the Selphy CP800 under Mac OS X 10.7.x (aka Lion). Tech support cannot tell us when it will be done. When it is, it will appear on the website, and, presumably, will be announced wherever it is they make product announcements.I know from prior experience, and other models of the Selphy line (all of which use the ink and paper and paper loading cartridges interchangeably), that these are excellent printers, and one of the most cost-effective ways of producing genuine dye-sublimation prints, of which there are few other better print technologies. If this produced large format prints it would cost in the tens of thousands of dollars and require special handling.It's an amazing achievement that this printer can be made so easy to use, so accessible, with such cheap consumables, and to cost so little. It's not amazing, but sad and inexplicable, that a company the size of Canon cannot produce a driver for the current operating system, out for eight months now from what is now the world's best-selling line of computers. But wait! There's more! See immediately below. The driver is now available.[Edited on May 21, 2012: Canon released a driver for Mac OS X Lion, as promised, though a tad long in coming... It's been available since mid-March. Go to the Canon USA website, look for the product page for the CP800 and click on "Drivers and Software" and it's pretty straight forward from there.]

At first I was hesitant to purchase this printer, thinking the print quality couldn't be as good as everybody was saying it was. But after finding a good deal on Black Friday, I decided to take a chance on it. The printer is very easy to setup and the quality is comparable to what you would get at most labs. Plus the convenience of printing at home. The cost of each print is debatable - it comes down to how much you value the convenience. Definitely worth the investment.

Upgraded from Sony printer, and while Canon print quality is good the device has some significant drawbacks. Firstly the card slot does not read Sony memory sticks, which is a pain seeing as I have a Sony camera. Secondly, thou can only print via wifi from a Windows 7 or a mobile device. As the main computer runs on an earlier version of Windows, a USB connection is the only option. However the presence of a USB connection disables the wireless capability so that I can no longer print from my iPad. Would be nice if Canon could package with a USB cable and card adapter!

I haven't been happy with this printer. I actually had to take it to my computer shop and pay money to find out it works, it just doesn't work right. Question marks come up when I put in an SD card or a flash drive instead of thumbprints 9 times out of 10. So unless I only put one picture on at a time, I have no idea what I'm printing. And it does not work with my computer which is an Apple. Very frustrating. I usually love Canon printers! I had a Lexmark one at one time that worked wonderfully but they stopped making the ink for it so I'm stuck with this one for now. I must say it does print very nice quality pictures, hence the 2 stars.

In fact, in some situations it completely ignores deep black detail which is important when you print. I have done some great shots with great black detail I was hoping to see in print. Didn't show up, just a solid black with no detail. Overall the printer is great for on location printing, I like the dye component for ink, priced well for photos dye carts. Really my only complaint is the lack of detail that is provided in deep blacks. Again, it does not even register. I want to be clear, the prints are excellent, however, as a photo enthusiast who takes the time to provide detail in my black areas, this is a significant issue for me that might not be or show up for others at all. Photographers probably would understand what I am referring to instead of the novice. Overall value is great and well worth the price. Pictures are high quality.Pros - Price, convenience, image quality with bright colors, sleek, small footprint, easy exchange of ribbon, fairly fast print time, compact.Cons - Lack of detail in black printing, LCD small, not detailed, cost of battery pack too high compared to printer.Would I buy again? - Probably so, I haven't done many comparisons, however, for what it is, I would buy it again.

I have fallen in love four times in my life. The first was a heartbreaker in college. The second, I married. The third was a Weber Q grill. And this printer was the fourth.Now, a printer is not the kind of thing one should fall in love with. It's stupid. It's a pile of plastic and metal enclosed in a box. And while it is a very nice box, a box it is none-the-less.But I am in love. Let me count the ways.(1) It does what it says: it prints beautiful color photos in about a minute. The printer uses a process called dye sublimation in which a solid ink that is spread on a thin plastic sheet is transferred to the photo paper in a four step process. In the first three steps, different color inks are deposited on top of each other to create all the other colors of the spectrum. In the last step, a clear coating is applied that protects the print from minor scratches and fingerprints. (BTW, don't let the 300dpi resolution put you off. The photos look every bit as good as the "60 million by 24 million dots per blah, blah, blah of the ink jet printers. Evidently, dots per inch are not all the same.)(2) It is simple to use. You take your picture. You insert your memory card into the front of the printer (it accepts just about every common memory card). You select your photo from the small display built in to the printer and press the print button. One minute later, your print is ready to handle and share. Want to print all the photos on the memory card? Simply select the "print all" command and it will print all the photos. No laptop or PC needed.(3) It is cost effective - take 1. When you buy the special paper for the printer, the solid ink cartridge(s) come with the paper. You always get enough ink for the amount of paper that you buy so you don't waste ink. Unlike inkjet printers, you don't waste ink cleaning nozzles or have ruined pictures because of a clogged inkjet. At the normal price, prints come out to about 30?a print. While this is more expensive than sending your prints to Costco, you have the benefit of not having to drive to Costco. With gas at $3 a gallon, you have to factor that in. I have actually bought paper and ink in a 108 print box from Best Buy that was on sale for about $14. This brought the cost down to about 12? a print. Needless to say, I bought eight boxes. The paper is widely available from all the big box digital camera retailers and from specialty camera shops.(4) It is cost effective - take 2. The prints come in only one size, 4x6. (Actually, the print is really 100mm by 148mm. This works out to a slightly smaller 3.94 x 5.83 inch print.) If you want larger or smaller prints, then this is not the printer for you. However, the upside is that you only have to carry only one type of ink cartridge and one type of paper. If the printer had to handle more sizes of prints, the printer, paper and ink would be more expensive.(5) The pictures are durable and smudge proof. Unlike inkjet printers, the photo won't run if water spills on it. The dye sublimation ink is wax based and does not dissolve in water. Kept out of the sun, the photos should last your lifetime and into your kids lifetime. Will it last forever? No. For that, you need to shoot in black and white on film. Frankly, this printer is not for archival purposes. It is intended to print pictures that you can enjoy and share immediately. Kind of like the concept behind the Polaroid camera.(6) It is made by Canon. Canon has been making quality photo equipment for generations and this printer is no exception. Service centers are nearly everywhere in the USA.(7) It is portable. I can store two of these printers - with all power cables and a box of paper - in a large laptop computer case. I have taken them to a school banquet and printed photos of all the guests for a take home souvenir. Using two printers, two cameras, and a small pile of memory cards, my wife and I printed over two hundred take home keepsakes to remember the event with in under three hours. There's even a port for plugging in a 24 volt battery supply, though I haven't tried it yet.(8) It is reliable. The paper loads in a tray that is inserted into the front of the printer. The ink cartridge is loaded into the side of the printer. The paper feeds from the tray and passes in a straight line to the back of the printer. The paper shuttles back and forth while the layers of ink and protective coating is applied to the paper. That's it. In many other printers, including full size ones, the paper has to feed through several sets of rollers that bend the paper through a convoluted paper path. In my experience, the more convoluted the path, the greater the probability that the paper will jam in the machine because of a tolerance or timing problem. The more convoluted the path, the more complicated the mechanism has to be and the less reliable the printer becomes. The straighter the path, the more reliable. I bought this to print quick photos from my iPhone. It turns out that the iPhone does not work with this directly. So I have to transfer to a stick then print. Photo quality is just ok. Maybe that is the phone, but I have the 4S model and have had photos print from other printers nicely.Great size factor and very easy to set up / use. Feels like a Canon quality unit. There really needs to be an upfront disclaimer about the iPhone, though. Amazon should take responsibility on this. The product page said nothing - absolutely nothing - about phone incompatibilities. I know that I should have read more than just the 3 reviews that show up on the first page, but I would think that the seller would want to make me aware of this.I like the cartrige system and the paper tray works fine for me.I can only give 2 stars since the initial feeling I have right now is very let down from my expectation toward this device.

I purchased this to use at a graduation party. I set up my backdrops and light in a photobooth type fashion and was pleasantly surprised at the ease of use of this printer and the quality of the prints. After taking a series of pictures my granddaughter placed the memory card into the printer, selected the 8 prints set up and printed out strips eight shots at a time on a 4 x 6 size print. Then using a small paper cutter she cut the print in half resulting in two stirps of four prints just as if the "photobooth" had it printed that way.This "photobooth" and prints were a major hit! Everyone was so impressed at the quality of the pictures even several days after the party as other prints we had taken at another party with a "professional" photobooth had begun to fade. Absolutely met my needs and exceeded my expectation.Many years ago I purchased a hp portable photo printer which I initially planned to use, however when I priced the cost of ink and paper for my "old" hp printer, to print out over one hundred pictures, it was actually cheaper to buy this printer and the 108 ink/paper combo than to buy the ink.Truly pleased with this product.

Right off the bat, no printer cable. That still irks me. I know, no printer comes with them, but why not?Setting up the printer was easy - plug it in, install the software and you're off. I choose to print my photos directly from my PC instead of a SD card (since that's where all my photos were). The SELPHY Photo Print software is really easy to use. The startup kit only allows for five photos, so I chose wisely. It takes about 40 seconds to print a full color photo. The photo quality is pretty amazing! I was very impressed. I've been printing with inkjet printers for over 10 years and if you haven't used the printer in awhile, there's always some ink waste in getting the photo to turn out right. Plus, you always need to calibrate and clean your print heads. None of what will be necessary with this machine.The unit is small and attractive. The giant white power adapter is not! And why a white power adapter for a black unit? I couldn't believe the size of the AC adapter for this thing! Kinda kills the whole small and portable thing, but there is a battery pack available for this unit.The process in which this printer prints pictures is very cool and I hadn't seen anything like it before. It transfers via thermal film and puts down the yellow (Y), the magenta (M), the cyan (C), and then the black (B). So the photo paper makes four passes through the printer. When it makes the first pass, you see a yellow photo, then a yellow+magenta photo, etc. It's kinda cool to watch. Once your "cartridge" is used, you throw it out, something I wasn't keen on. From what I can tell, these are not recyclable and that's not a good thing. Canon is usually pretty green, so I can only hope some sort of recycling will exist for these bulky plastic cartridges. There's likely something on their website (I hope). The cartridges seem very wasteful and the 108 photo/cartridge pack means you'll be throwing THREE cartridges away when you're done.Though there is a cute little credit-card sized photo option, it requires a separate tray and obviously, smaller paper. It seems like they could have combined the (only) two paper sizes in the same cartridge with a lever or something. But, each paper size requires a different cartridge. I have not been ablebto find the smaller credit-card sized paper/paper tray/cartridge anywhere else besides Canon's site. That's frustrating. I'd love to make tiny photos!Overall, I like it, though it seems a little wasteful and costly. Cost per print for the 108 photo pack is about 27 cents/image right now. Not too bad.PROS:* Small printer, small footprint* Excellent photo quality* Software is easy to use, if even a little *too* simplistic* One photo in about 40 seconds* Variety of connection methods (USB, SD card, memory stick, cell phone [with bluetooth add-on $50])* Heat transfer is nicer to deal with than messy ink tanks* No print calibration or alignment needed* No messy ink or waiting for photo to "dry"CONS:* Wasteful cartridges - a very specialty item that cannot be reused or refilled* Giant AC adapter* Each paper size requires its own cartridge AND paper tray* Can only print two different sizes of photos - not an all-purpose device* Expensive add-ons (Battery $80, Bluetooth Adapter $50)* Credit-card sized paper, tray and cartridge are hard to find and expensive

It is wrong for my purposes. I intended to purchase an A4 printer to include photos to replace an old Canon Pixma IP4500 which had expired. So I am waiting for it to be collected and credited so that I can try again.!! I do not know why it says above that ' I hate it', becauseI don't. It is just not what I required.

I operate a portable photo booth, and this is the printer I have in my setup. At an event I'll print 20 to 40 sheets per hour, events last anywhere from 2 to 4 hours, and I've done two events on the same day before. I've yet to have any ink cartridges fail, or a paper jam. people are always impressed at the quality and "speed" of printing. The one drawback IS the fact that you need about triple the space of the actual footprint to include the tray and the fact that the entire photo sticks out the rear of the printer while it's making passes during printing.

I bought this in order to do pictures at an event and then print and send them with the people. i did my research and this one seemed to always pop to the top and the price was in line. I got it, set it up (which is extremely easy), and did a test picture. The color was vibrant and the picture crisp. For the event it functioned flawlessly and people were amazed that the little printer turned out that quality of print. I am beyond thrilled with this purchase

This printer is for making quick, easy, high quality (compared to inkjet) prints direct from a camera or flash memory. Results are beautiful. Easy to print multiple photos on one sheet. Paper costs no more as 1-hour 4x6" prints from RitzPix right now, though it will take hundreds of prints to amortize the cost of the printer itself. Can also print 3.5x2.2 photos with PCC-CP300 tray and KP-36IP paper.I'm happy with the purchase despite these disappointments:1. As of 3/22/12 has Mac OS-X 10.7 Support: Has OS X drivers and a cutesy but largely useless app (can't do things the printer can). Software will also work with Win XP under Parallels 7.2. Slow interface: It has been a decade since the $400+ Sony DPP-SV77 came out, and this printer isn't much faster. It is slow to flip between photos on the card and there is no multi-photo thumbnail view. It often crops your photo to the print dimensions without warning (mostly relevant for the card-size paper), and doesn't even show a thumbnail if the JPEG doesn't have one embedded. Direct-from-camera photos do, but many don't.3. Desk Space: The printer is tiny, but in actual use you have a paper tray sticking like 8" out the front, and a similar amount of space required behind it. The paper slides almost all the way out the back of the printer (at the bottom) during printing. The power supply is also quite large, and the optional battery very expensive.4. No iPhone Printing: The iPhone mounts as a USB drive (for photos only) on a Windows PC, but this printer can't recognize a USB connected iPhone (its fault). The bluetooth also will not work, (iPhone's fault). Sad you really have to go through a computer to print iPhone photos - you'd think with the prevalence of iPhones Canon would have worked this out.

Purchased this for an expo event for our company. Did a promo that attendees could have their picture taken with a cutout. Really worked out well. The pictures were great quality. Not super fast, but certainly efficient.Only drawback is the photo paper size is only the Canon paper. It would be nicer to have the flexibility to use any paper. With the cost of ink/cartridge refills for most printers, paper choices should be more broad.

This is my first photo printer and I absolutely love it. It's nice to be able to print photos at home, without having to upload them and make a trip to the drugstore to pick them up. And if you watch for sales here at Amazon, the price per print breaks down to within 1 or 2 cents of what you would pay elsewhere.You will need to pick up a USB printer cable - I just removed the cable I had hooked up to my LaserJet printer and moved it over to this printer, it's not a big deal. To take advantage of the Canon software that comes with this printer (with frames, templates for different seasons and holidays, etc.), it needs to be connected to your computer. (Although you can use this not being hooked up to the PC, by using the flip-up LCD screen on the printer.)You will also need to buy more ink and paper. It comes with a starter pack of just 5 prints. Make sure you load the paper cassette glossy side up - I wasted my first print by using the wrong side of the paper. It comes with the postcard size paper cassette, which makes 4" x 6" prints.This printer can be used a multitude of ways:By printer cable connected to your PCBy inserting a memory card in the slot in front: most cards are compatible, check the listing here - xD cards will need an adapterBy connecting your digital camera to the USB portBy a USB Flash MemoryFrom your mobile phone (Bluetooth)Setting it up was easy; if you are familiar using a laser printer or a fax machine, works pretty much the same way. You slide the ink cartridge in the side until it clicks and the paper cassette installs the same as a LaserJet paper cartridge does - by sliding into the front until it clicks.And I have to tell you, the print quality is excellent! Just as good, if not better, than the prints I had made at the local big box store that starts with W.When using the printer without being hooked up to your PC, you have the options of adding the date, auto correcting the color, correcting red eye, making the people in the picture have smooth skin (I love this one!), border or borderless, printing in various color settings such as vivid, neutral, sepia, or black & white. In other words, you can do just about anything without using your PC - I just prefer using my photo printer hooked to the computer as the 2.5" LCD screen is a strain on my eyes.Using the Canon software, I was able to create a Holiday card of my dog - which I have taken a picture of and uploaded here in the customer images. I will have a blast doing my Holiday cards this year.Imagine the fun you could have taking this to the next party of family reunion you go to - take this along with your digital camera and create instant memories for everyone to take home with them. That's what I plan on doing!The battery is not included with the printer, and they are expensive, and I really don't see the need at this time for the battery, since almost anyplace I go has electricity and the power cord that came with this is fairly long.Overall, it's perfect except for the white power cord that came with the black printer. Black would have looked nicer, but it's not that big of a deal so I'm not deducting a star for this minor complaint.

I did not buy this through Amazon but wanted to leave a review on it. I absolutely LOVE this printer. I bought it because my EPSON 835 printer is horrible printing photos and this little printer is fantastic. I wished it printed bigger photos but that's ok, I can live with 4 x 6 when the quality is that great. It's easy to use and prints reasonably fast and the color, is perfect. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this printer!!

If you need. That photo right away, this is perfect. I also used this to print. Photos automatically at a party the ink dries fast and quality is always beautiful. I recommend always having extra supplies so you're never stuck not printing the shot you need.Also, this little printer ran non stop for 4 hours one night. Never a jam, a bad photo, and it never over heated. Very dependable.

Nice quality and my printer, leads and 2 spare ink cartridges fit perfectly (with an inside sleeve for the paper holder). You can adjust the compartments inside to fit whatever you want to store perfectly.

We bought this little gem in November of 2010 for a trip to Ethiopia. We also bought the battery as power is always questionable. And at 2 lbs it is easy to put in the carryon - even with all of the restrictions these days.How fabulous to be able to take a picture with someone or pics of the kids - print them and give them away :)It has now been back an forth to Ethiopia 3 times printing everywhere. The print quality is as good as my home printer. It isn't cheap per print - but the portability is priceless. It even helped us get through security in Addis Ababa. When we were questioned about all of the electronics and the suitcases of donations we had brought for local orphanages, we snapped a pic of the officer and printed it for him. He was so impressed we sailed through!

I was a little leary about purchasing this product - until I received it, and I knew I made the correct choice. The first reason I picked this printer is, I'm a Canon loyalist when it came to my photography equipment. So, I took a chance with the printer. I knew I wanted a dye sublimation printer, and the larger print printers were far more expensive. So, before investing several thousand, I wanted to try a smaller printer and test out the quality difference.And different it is! Dye sublimation just ROCKED my world. I've had bubble jet, ink jet, laser jet, dot matrix... you name it. Granted, there are some fantastic ink jet and laser jet printers out there that produce great prints, the biggest seller for me was simple. It was the print quality and process. Say you take a gorgeous image with lots of vibrant colors, and print it on a jet printer. When it comes out, you have to let it sit there for a few minutes, cause you can literally see the ink sitting ON the paper. And as that ink soaks in, the color changes - dramatically. Sometimes better; sometimes worse. And good golly, you had better not put your finger on that ink prior to it soaking in and drying!With the dye sublimation, what you see is what you get! The colors are vibrant, rich, and pure tones in the hues. There's no drying time needed. You can grab it straight from the printer, and instantly into a frame without worrying if it will damage the image. It really is an amazing process, and it's a great product. It's completely idiot proof.The second reason I bought this printer is, you can purchase the supplies anywhere. Granted, they're more expensive in the local retailer than online, but if you're in a pinch - and least the pinch won't hurt too bad.The third reason I chose this printer, it takes multiple mediums. In other words, you can use pretty much any memory stick or card - there's probably a slot for it. AND it also allows for tether. What's tether, you ask? If you have a digital camera that can link to a computer via USB, then it can link to the printer. Print straight from the camera. Or you can use the program that came with it, and print from the computer. The tether feature was a great bonus for me.Lastly, I bought the product on Amazon because I searched, and searched, and searched... this is hands down, the best price!! You may be able to find it on Craigslist for a couple bucks less... but why save $5 on a used product, when you can spend that $5 and get it new? But, hey... that's just one person's opinion.I hope you all enjoy the printer has much as I have! I printed all my Christmas cards on it, no fuss, no mess, no fighting off people in a portrait studio. AND it was out in people's mail boxes in a timely manner!! You can't beat that with a stick!

It's a great printer, but there is a significant issue with the printing software. One of the printing options is a photo calendar, with a variety of possible layouts. When I tried to print a June 2012 calendar, the header on the calendar came out as "6 2012." Every non-Canon calendar I've ever seen lists the name of a month using alphabetical letters at the top of the calendar page, not a number.I was blown away when I contacted Canon tech support and was told this is how the software functions. You select your desired month, such as "June" from a pull-down menu, and then the month gets printed as a number instead of the month's name. ?!?!?!?!? It's a huge disappointment to have a significant chunk of the software features essentially worthless to me. Do calendars in other countries not list the month's name at the top of each month's page?!? Why would they do this?

This little printer has the best color to it. I have only printed about 10 pictures,but they have come out beautiful. The process is interesting as it takes the paperand brings it in & out to add each color to it. Such as you see the picture in yellow first,then red, with blue and then a grey and your picture is done. I have not used the index orcollage settings on the computer yet.I recommend this computer if you do not want larger than 4X6 prints, and you can take it with youprint right from it anywhere there is electricity. I do not plan on purchasing the battery.

This printer is great for small here and there pictures that I want printed. I have a photo printer I used before but in the end this is more cost effective. To print about the same amout I have to buy 2 differenet inks plus photo paper about $75.I would only use this for small jobs because sometimes it doesnt accecpt some of the pictures on ur card. Easy fix for that is if u open up the pic in windows paint and "save as" and save as a jpeg. Pain in the butt but it worked for me :) over all I'm pretty happy with this printer for what I use it for, I got it in a pkg deal when I bought my canon rebel for a sick price!
