I just wanted an easy-to-use and understandable camera. This camera is that and more. I can't believe all this camera does. It blew my mind. It's simple to use and the instruction book is easy to understand. I really appreciate the 3" viewer. For those seeking an advanced camera capable of just about anything, this camera provides that too.

It took me a while to make up my mind, but when I finally did decide, the Canon was the best choice.

Great camera for the price. Not too small, easy to hold. Uses regular batteries. Pretty fast response time, and the pictures are good.

This is the best advanced compact on the market. Very easy to use. Great results. Powerful zoom and many controls.

It is a very nice camera. It's more than worth the price. It was important to me to find a camera with a viewfinder. I'm not a fan of the LCD screen but this one has both!

I am a long time fan of Canon. However, I am very disapointed with the A590IS. It takes approx 6 seconds between pictures!! You miss half the "action" just waiting for the camera to recharg after each picture!!??

Our eight-year-old was very excited when he received this camera for his birthday. It is so simple to use that he was able to take pictures immediately. Now his whole family borrows to capture images they want.

I replaced a very worn out camera that was slow, splotchy, and used to be fairly high end. The PowerShot takes beautiful pictures. I highly recommend reading the manual before trying to use it. There are a ton of features, but specifically a few that are good for point-and-shoot users like myself (including automatic, kids and pets, night-time, etc). It's not super fast to take the picture and reload, but I understand that is a limitation of a camera powered by AA batteries. The viewscreen on the back is wonderful. I particularly like that the picture is high enough quality to be able to edit to a close-up and still print a pretty large, but still high quality image. Paired with a good photo-editing software, this is a terrific upgrade for us!

My whole family uses PowerShots and love them. We tried a different model and it continues to impress.

ps. I haven't tried the video option...it's not what I bought the camera for.

I researched cameras on consumer reports for the best buy in price range. My grandson is thrilled with this. He likes the size So far he has no complaints. Check consumer reports for review.

The camera works well. I am just a casual photo taker and enjoy the easy mode. The pictures come out good and I am suprised by the battery life.

This camera takes excellent pictures. You can go manual and make all kinds of settings or go automatic and just click away.

It is everything that I can ask of this type of camera. It is easy to use, produces great photos, and is a bargain. I especially like the fact that it has a viewfinder, which is rare these days. It really helps on bright days. The instruction manual is excellent.

I traded up from the S3 IS to this one because of the 20x zoom. Love it. The only thing I dislike is how the zoom works. There are two levels and you must select between the two in the menu area instead of it being automatic when you press the zoom button. But, othewise it is the same GREAT CANON Camera.

seem's to work pretty well haven't really used it yet. looks nice and is smaller but has a bigger screen than my old cannon.

It is a bit bulky, but the clarity of the pictures and picture quality is wonderful. I really enjoy the face-finding/recognition feature. Enjoy your Canon!

I upgraded my Canon Powershot A80 to a Canon PS A590 IS. I love the larger display, but miss the pivoting display I had. It's disappointing that my previous camera took four AA batteries and the A590 requires only two, but the "Battery is low" light comes on after only 4 days of use. Additionally, the A590 came with a standard memory card of 32MB which equates to approx. 17 images. I'm not sure why the camera is sold with so little memory. Overall, I am satisfied with the camera for the price, but would probably save a little longer for a better one in hindsight.

Received the camera right away. Will deal with this merchant again. I am no photography expert, although, if I were, this camera gives me the option of manual settings. However, it also has an automatic setting that gave me FABULOUS photos. Just got back from vacation and reviewed the photos today. I can't believe that I took them, they look too good!!
I would recommend this camera to anybody and everybody.

I've only written one other review - when I thought I had a duty give back to these forums! This is one more time - I feel compelled to share my recent experience with the new TX-1. I have used almost all of the Canon P&S type cameras. I've also owned several Sony's, Minolta, Panasonic, and other digital cameras over the years. Thank goodness some vendors have generous return policies or I'd be broke! With this background and my comments below - you can see that I am no "techo" person, just a gadget geek that likes new stuff that takes good pictures and video! Well, when I saw the TX-1, I thought I had fallen in love "again" - it looked too good to be true. So I bought one! Currently, I'm also using a Canon G7 (also have the Canon SD700 and really like it - but gave it to my son) and LOVE IT!!! Many have complained about no RAW and other stuff - but I think it's a great camera that take excellent pictures as well as pretty darn good video!

Well, back to the TX-1 - I won't comment on the looks (although I think it looks pretty neat) - I will just focus on how it worked and takes pics/video. Well - in a word - I was very disappointed. Believe me, I tried all the settings - both auto and whatever manual I could use. Pictures are totally inferior to the G7 (and SD700)and just about all the other cameras I've used lately. Simply too grainy, some out of focus, or under/over exposed. The 10X zoom was pretty cool - but did not make up for the poor picture quality.

The video was also pretty bad (except for the ability to use the zoom). I think the biggest problem was "focus hunting". This has happened in other cameras I've used, but not as bad as the TX-1. It did not do well indoors or shadowy areas outside. The camera just could not cope with lighting changes. Again, video looked grainy (like the pictures) and generally not clear. It was very hard to hold the camera still during zooming (although the IS worked as good as it could - IS is not a miracle option - just a help).

Bottom line - I'm keeping the G7 - returned the TX-1. Sorry Canon - I am a big supporter and generally love your products, but the TX-1 is not one that I can recommend!

My mom loved this camera that I got her for Christmas. It is amazing-- has great technical features and was the cheapest on amazon of any place I searched.

I bought this camera for my daughter. It arived after two days of purchase, and my daughter has not stopped taking pictures! It is a perfect camera for a 17yo!

I purchased this camera about a month ago prior to going on a short trip abroad. So far, I've been very happy with it after about 100+ shots. The 10x zoom is just right to get the close-ups. Those who haven't had a camera with image stabilization should know that it can't fix all flaws - I had a very hard time getting a good shot of a statue from a boat that was vibrating from the engine. I haven't tried it in really bright sunlight yet to see how it fares without the optical viewfinder, which was one of my only concerns about this model. The lag between flash photos that others have commented on is definitely noticeable, but only mildly annoying to me as I don't take too many low light shots. Battery life seems to be good - I got about 150 or so shots on the batteries that came with it, and that includes a lot of time reviewing shots and having the camera on and ready waiting for shots. The only complaint I really have at this point is that the card and batteries go in the same door and when you open it to remove the card, the batteries often fall out. This may be more of an issue for me than others as I never connect the camera directly to my PC, preferring to use a card reader.
