Though I'd otherwise rave about this wonderful camera, I'm on my third version in about 4 years and am sick of replacing it. Each time, after about 4 GB of photo-taking (cumulative total -- many downloads in between), the camera tells me to "Replace the Batteries." I replace them and it will take one or two more photos before it tells me to again replace the batteries. There seems to be some sort of mechanical "wearing out" that occurs. I use the camera for vacations, school events, etc. I am not a professional photographer. So I don't think I use it excessively. Obviously I love it (and am used to the controls), or I'd not have purchased two more after my first one went bad (in exactly the same way). But this latest camera lasted me less than 6 months, so I'm finished with Canon.

I love this canon 590 camera. it has all the features like red eye reduction, night scenes, and all type of season you can take pictures with. i would recommend this product b/c the value is great.

Purchased around Thanksgiving 2008 for a good $50 less than in stores. Very impressed with the camera, easy to use and makes me look like I know what I am doing.

I just picked this up for my wife and it takes amazing pictures and image stabilizer is fantastic. A friend just bought the Panasonic Elixim which has a 10X optical and this is the only thing I wish the Canon had. Great buy!

I was very impressed by the features and capability of this camera, especially considering its size and price. The automatic mode delivers crisp, easy to take pictures with little fuss, and shutter lag is a non-issue. The lens zoom is great, and the image stabilization is very useful in long range shots.

The manual modes give a ton of options, and are very easy to use and access. For walkabout and general photography I definitely prefer this camera over a more expensive and bulkier DSLR.

A couple months ago my cheap digital camera took a dive out of my pocket and nearly got swallowed by a gutter in Times Square. Sadly, it wasn't repairable, so I turned to this camera. I just bought it yesterday, graduating from a Kodak EasyShare C643, which is a huge jump to this beauty.

The zoom still makes my jaw drop with how clear it is and how precise. Being bought solely for a music festival in May, I'm confident it's quality of pictures will be equal to or maybe even better than the press pictures from the very front of the enormous crowd. Pictures come out beautiful and crisp, and it really can make a professional photographer out of anyone- even if its your first time picking up a camera. Yes, its a little pricey, but well worth it. I highly recommend it.

Other people might complain about the battery life, but its really not as bad as it sounds- just lower the settings on all you can (and make the resolution slightly smaller unless you want to print these photos into a poster or something) and you'll be fine for awhile.

I've owned at least 3 digital cameras of progressive MP technology over the years. I think this Canon Powershot is a great value for what you get, whether your a snap-shotter or a more advanced user of digital cameras. This camera has just enough features to make people like me dangerous, but not too many that you are overwhelmed. The modes/settings are easy to configure and with a little practice, you will be taking some great pictures.
A lot of people think that the greater the MP, the better the quality of the picture. This is not true. I was looking for a camera that I can take quality photos with and share them over the internet; I do not need a professional camera that will produce poster-sized shots. And for my purposes, this camera is perfect!

I presently own a Cannon PowerSot A540 that I use at my Home Inspection Business taking about 50 to 70 Different types of pictures everyday and this Camera has been Beyond Great. The New SX100IS that I Purchased is Truley a step up from the A540 ,it is extremely easy to use , I can Zoom in like I was using high powered Binioculars and then just tap on the "snap-botton' and it auto-focuses , the screen view is crystal clear and I am SUPER Pleased !!! If you forget to pop-up the flash it simply displays that at the top of the screen so you can choose........It is Light ,Comfortable ,and has the same Quality Construction of my A540 which has fallen off a roof several times and just keeps working everyday......I just needed more Zoom than 4X and this 10X is like a Telescope ,Man-o-Man !!!!!!!

I bought this as a present for my 6 year old who is always grabbing my Ixus. At this price I was a bit dubious, but with the Canon name you can't go wrong. I almost got the A460 which had fantastic reviews but then saw that this had been released.

In summary it is a supoerb item. My son is able to take perfect pictures, with a good zoom lens and MP count, and an excellent screen. It also has face recognition which works very well. Response and start up times are very good.

The camera is a bit more plastic than an Ixus but still looks like a quality item, which it definitely is. Video is very good, and the box includes all the cables you need to play back on a TV.

I recommend getting a charger and some rechargeable AA batteries, and then you have a very good camera for a beginner or moderate user.

Very impressed, and I still can't believe the Amazon price, especially when you think it's posted free. Get one now!

I have owned 3 Sony Cybershots H1,H5 and H9 prior to my purchase of my Canon today. I was about to purchase the new H50 and decided that the quality, the functions, extra shooting modes and 20x zoom were the clinching factors in my switch.I have only shot about 100 pictures i am seriously happy as a novice photographer. Incidentally the lens cap can be attached to the neck strap.

This camera is excellent. I am still trying to figure out some of its features. So far, this pictures that I have taken are clear and vivid.

The camera produces clear images. I have yet to print, but expect hi quality prints. The manual could use some work on translating tech speak to English for those of us over 16.

I just recieved mine today and first impressions is that it is an attractive camera. The pictures are clear. But the camera itself is quite difficult to use as theres so many functions. Not having a black and white setting is a bit of a let down but you can easily download picasa 2 on google n edit your images on there. Its small enough to fit in your pocket or bag and is great for taking pictures with your friends. i suggest buying a 2GB memory card for it as they are so cheap now.

Its a really good buy and an excellent value for money, when i told everyone how cheap it wsa they were astonished. My dad bought a camera that was atleast twice as expensive and the only difference is that his is a bit thinner.

If your like me and just looking for a digital camera to take pictures of your friends and to take on days out then this is the best for your money. ( trust ive been searching for weeks)

We bought this camera for our boys. They had been wanting to take good pictures, but I really cringed when they used my $600 camera. We were hoping this would be perfect for them. (Ages 11, 9, & 7). I have to say, it's probably right for the price. When the sun is out, you have plenty of time because your subject isn't moving much, then it takes an amazing picture. If it is low light, it is really grainy. If there is a bit of movement (not running or on an amusement ride, just kids walking or playing,) it can be hard to get a decent picture.
For my boys it's fine, if it was my only camera I would be incredibly disapointed. I will probably take it on field trips as it is far more compact than my big camera.

I purchased this to replace my 4 year old Kodak Easy Share. My favorite parts about this camera include the Kids and Pets setting, the ability to look through a viewfinder like a film camera, and the excellent battery life. I've been using the same batteries for over two months despite almost daily use of the camera. Some of the menu settings are a little complicated but most of it is fairly intuitive.

I have the Canon S2 IS which has served me very well since it was released. Over 10,000 images and it has been a pleasure.

I bought the SX10 a few weeks ago. It is a keeper for me. The 28mm equiv wide angle is great, and the 20x optical zoom has been enjoyed many times.

The EVF is very bright and large.

A lot of good features which I will not repeat.

The pictures are a dramatic improvement over those from my old camera. Colors are accurate and the images are sharp.

It's a great camera for the price. However it is VERY slow between photo shots (about 3 second minimum). Takes great pictures though and was a very good, cheap, replacement for our previous camera which had issues with the flash.

Bought this as a gift for my wife; she loves the camera; pictures come out very sharp, crisp.

Amazon Prime was worth every penny; got it just in time for x-mas.

Went to Colorado Springs on a job, needed a camera that provided a big bang for the buck, and this one delivered. Awesome pictures, easy to down load, buttons easy to use, would buy it again. Pics from the top of pikes peak priceless.

We are currently on a cross country trip from Pa to California and I can't believe some of the terrific shots I have been getting! When I want to be lazy I let the camera do it for me when I want to manually take my own I can! Gotta love it! Only thing I would suggest you buy a case!

we love this camera and I appreciate the extras but prefer point-and-shoot so I don't miss a quick shot. Try it; you'll be pleasantly surprised.
