The printer is rarely used. Only printed a few documents over several months. We never put off-brand ink in it. It's almost new. It gets the Ink Cartridge error mentioned by others that it does not recognize it has a cartridge in the black slot. Also, is says I have TWO of the same color cartridges installed. I don't. So now it won't print anything. It's a like-new printer with full ink cartridges that are totally useless to me. This will FOR SURE be my last Canon printer, and maybe my last Canon product. Their website offers no help, and no firmware updates. The customer should have some recourse against Canon for this kind of issue. Many people have the same problem with the printer. It should be recalled and replaced. DO NOT buy this printer.

I bought this machine used, advertised as working fine. I was not disappointed. It chugs away, doing what it was built to do very well.I will admit, I wanted to get one of the Canon models that could be set up to print directly on inkjet-printable CD's, and the 6600D can be enabled to do so with the purchase of a Canon CD tray "C." The more recent models cannot be modified to do this, at least as I write this.CD-printing is generally not enabled on US versions of the many Canon printers that possess this ability--patent issues, perhaps?The CD-printing issue aside, I'm also tickled to watch this affordable printer suck paper in and out to print on two sides (the auto duplex feature) and I love having 2 different ways to feed paper, the automatic feeder up high and the cassette down under.The automatic feeder on top is great because it bends the paper very little, if at all, and feeding of stock is helped by gravity. I printed some 4" by 6" photos, and sent them to my mom, who called today to say she liked them very much. Labels printed from the automatic feeder were precise and beautiful. No wasted labels!The cassette feeder below seems to be mainly for plain paper and duplexing. It worked great also, printing out a lab report on 2 sides that I wanted to take with me to a doctor appointment.As for the direct-CD printing, I followed the setup directions available on the internet, and ordered the tray.Did it work? Yes it did. And all these years I've been labeling CD's with markers! First try looked great! What a great tool!

I have had this printer for only a few weeks but so far it is great. And the purchase from AMAZON was speedy and flawless.

Expensive, small ink tanks. I don't use this printer much, but it didn't last even two years before the paper quit feeding. Even before that I had to remove the black ink cartridge every time I started the printer and then put it back in because the printer said it wasn't there. I bought this to replace a 7 year old Epson. Now, I am using the Epson again until I replace the junk Canon. I have owned several brands of printers. This is the most expensive to use, quickest dying printer I have ever had. Also, colors that print fine on other printers had an off-hue cast on the Canon. This was a mistake. I bought the Canon because I have used their cameras for 27 years. They don't make printers as well as Cameras. No more Canon printers for me. I am back to Epson or HP.

Considering the number of individual color cartridges in this printer, I expected a much higher quality print. The colors do not seem any better than my old HP printer, and that printer only had a tri color and black cartridge. It also cost much less. The cartridges do not last long and are quite expensive. Recently, I experienced two clogs in the print heads.Long story short, I'd gladly sell this printer, but do not recommend it.

I purchased this printer 4 years ago. It's still going strong. Great quality photo prints. Great features like double-sided printing (Duplex) and direct LCD viewing/printing images from memory card. The silent mode for printing is really quite quiet.Note: It does require a lot of ink. Always try to keep spare ink on hand.I really have no need to replace this printer at this time. It fits so many of my needs to date still.

This printer does not always work. The printer will either not recognize an ink cartridge, or indicates that there is more than one of the same cartridge even though there is not. The cartridges do no last long and are expensive.If, and that is a big if, you can the printer to work it prints fine.I would strongly suggest you purchase another printer.

I bought this printer a few months back as a replacement for my Canon i860 that has been a workhorse. I was attracted by the direct printing from memory cards, as well as the additional photo color cartridges for better prints. I had been eyeballing this printer from the time it was released to retailers.I have rather mixed feelings about this printer, but I think the easiest way to describe it is by listing the positives and negatives.Positive:1. Outstanding photo printing. I thought my i860 printed great photos (it does-even with generic inks), but the iP6600D is a step better. I too have used processors to print some photos before, and when using Canon Photo Paper Pro Glossy paper, this printer is every bit as good as those processed prints. In fact, I have had people ask both if the photos were film and professionally printed.2. Two paper loading options - the back primary for standard paper, the drawer for photo paper. This can be set up in the driver to auto-select based on the type of printing job (*but...seee negatives). It is convenient to not have to manually swap paper or turn a switch to change paper.3. Quiet - this printer is somewhat quieter than my i8604. Nice LCD screen for direct editing/printing of photos on photo memory cards.*5. Seperate ink tanks - economy of replacing only those inks that are needed - not an entier combo tank.*6. Lots of features not found in many other printers in the same price class.7. Fast printing.Negatives:1. Inks are relatively expensive for individual colors (compared to my i860). For Canon inks, they run around $17 each (with 6 tanks....ouch). Thus far, there are no 3rd party ink cartridges that are compatible with this printer. My i860 printed photos very close to the same quality using cheap inks as the Canon inks.2. The Memory Card reader - the box advertises that it is xD compatible - but in reality, the printer requires an adaptor for xD to function in this printer - and Canon doesn't even market or sell such an adaptor (have found elsewhere - for $30+). Wording on marketing material should be clarified in this regard. Borders on false advertising.3. Large footprint - this printer takes up a lot of room - several square inches more than my i860.4. Driver can be a bit tempermental in regards to the paper source. It is suppose to (when properly set up) automatically select the appropriate paper source - photo paper in tray or standard paper in regular paper feed. The driver often does not make the right selection - pulling regular 8.5X11 paper when printing 4X6 photos. Thus wasting ink and causing an inconvenience. I am hoping future releases of the driver will fix this bug.5. Text printing - the text printing of this printer is not quite as clean and sharp as my Canon i860 (or many other printers for that matter). I guess this to be because of the use of only one black cartrige for both photos and text. The i860 has two black cartridges - one specifically for text, the other for photos -Overall, thsi printer has potential to be a great printer - particularly for photos. It's text printing ability and relative high cost of inks are the traits that have encouraged me to keep my Canon i860 going. IF Canon can get the driver working correctly and inks come down a bit in price, I will use this printer a lot more.------------AN UPDATE - While I would say that this was one of the better printers I have owned, it died about 6 months after purchase with dead print heads. As new heads cost nearly as much as the printer itself - it was replace.

I use this in production and probably put 8000 sheets of various wait paper through it in a year for greeting cards and it never stops. Would be nice to have auto duplex, but that is why I have two set up, one doing each side to keep production rolling. Recommend.

I received this iP 6600D printer about a week ago to replace my malfunctioning Canon i9900, and I am very disapointed. The print quality on the i9900 was excellent, but the print quality of the 6600D is mediocre at best. Specifically, the colors are really washed out, particularly the reds, but all are to some extent. The colors are also not as true to life as they should be. For example, the mountains in a photo I used for comparison purposes looked too blue rather than as green as they should have been. The quality is also inferior to some prints I obtained from a drugstore photo printer. Before you buy this photo printer (or any photoprinter, really) you should have some digital photo examples printed on photo paper and compare them to the same photos printed on the printer you are considering. It really sucks working to take good photos and then knowing the quality of the resulting photos in your photo album will be less than they should be.

I would HIGHLY recommend buying another printer than this piece of s*. It worked fine for the first few weeks, then it suddenly kept coming up with an error message that cannot be bypassed. The Canon tech support was not helpful in the least, and I ended up having to buy a whole new set of ink cartridges. Very disappointed with this product and Canon in general.

I own this printer and have had it for almost two years with no problems. Others that I have given prints to are very impressed with the quality so it's not just me that thinks so. As far as finding ink cartridges, no, they're not in every store, but I haven't had any difficulty finding them either. When I bought it I paid more than the current price and I'm still not sorry I did. All in all, it performs admirably for a printer in this price range...

I've had this for about 2 years now. Print quality is excellent. Chassis of printer is flimsy. Paper sheet feeder not designed well as it allows the paper to shift sideways when being pulled in which makes the printing on the page crooked at times. Also, got an Error 5100 which could not be cleared even though I did everything recommended by the service manual to fix the problem. Printer is now dead. Check out a cheap color laser instead.

This is a 'late' review but I was interested in seeing if there was a 'better' Canon printer out there since I bought this one in March of 2006. There doesn't seem to be. I normally print from Photoshop and have calibrated both screen and printer to produced unsurpassed color. If you can still find one, this is the printer to buy. Mine originally cost $199 or $299 but Canon has a 'list' price of $99.99 - if you can get one that cheap, it's a steal!

Just bought this printer tonight as a replacement for my Canon I950 which died on me recently. I am resigned to the fact that every couple of years you have to upgrade your printer either due to failure or new introduced features. I had compared this printer with the HP8250 and feel quite comfortable with my choice of the Canon.Setup: Flawlessly, exactly as described in quick setup guide. The LEDs on the print cartridges are cool although of course you cannot see them unless the cover is open. Here's hoping it will be a long time before they start blinking!Photo Printing: I have printed a variety of photos using 4x6 paper. The quality is very good but still not up to the level of a print from photo processing at Costco. The sharpness is pretty good but the richness and saturation, "fullness" if I may call it still isn't quite there. From various reviews I have read, it really seems you need more then six color printers to really rival processed prints. Having said that, I'm convinced that anybody in the office hallway that you hand a 6600D print to is going to say it's very good. It is noticeably better then the HP8250 that I had done comparison tests. I printed pics using both the Canon photo plus and photo pro paper. It is very hard to tell the difference between the two but yes the Pro is just a tad sharper and also when you rub your finger across it a bit more smooth then the plus. Still does not approach the smoothness of a processed print. That is another reason why I still prefer processed prints. You can rub your finger across them and you don't get that tacky, sticky feeling you get from doing the same with a ink jet photo. Overall I would not say the photo quality is not that much enhanced over the I950. I am really hoping the inks prove themselves in longevity though.Text printing: Here I was pleasantly surprised. I cannot find a good example from my I950 but is the text blacker? It still isn't a match for my $150 laser but I think would suffice fine for a person that mainly wants a photo printer but wants to occasionally print text.Printing speed: Overall very fast. My I950 blew away any previous inkjet I had owned and this is a notch faster still.Other things: I see there is still a quirk with the Canon driver also present on the I950. That is when selecting a photo paper and choosing custom setting rather then high, the slider notch between fast and fine is not all the way towards fine. I wonder if selection high, the notch is set the furthest towards high or is it a setting below like in custom. I have not tried the bottom loading cassette yet. If it works fine then that will be a nice option as I can load it with photo paper. I played with the LCD and direct photo printing at the store but haven't yet at home. It seems to work ok and is bigger then a lot at 3.5"All and all I would highly recommend this printer except to say if you wanted absolutely top notch photo printing, you'll still have to move up the ladder. My how far things have progressed since buying my $500 HP560 back in 1993.

I was looking to retire my circa 1999 Epson Stylus Pro 925 and replace it with this model. The Epson was just worn out, leaving some ink artifacts on the edges of the prints.Here's what's good about the ip6600d:Far faster than the old Epson, I can probably print 3 8x10's in the time it takes the Epson to spit out one.Paper handling with the dual feeds is great, never jammed.Economical on ink. At least that is my perception.Good support.However, for me the one bad attribute negates the good: quality. The old Epson blows it out of the water. The epson's colors are more accurate, and the detail in the Canon photo is significantly inferior to the old Epson. There is a dithering (blurring) of detail in the Canon not present in the Epson. Even the photos shot with the Canon S3IS digicam are superior on the Epson. Working with tech support, I took an image off the Canon site and printed on both units. Epson won, hands down. Even my wife said it was no contest on quality.I even went so far as to get a warranty replacement from Canon to see if it was a fluke. No, the Epson smokes the Canon on print quality. I really wish it were superior in this one area, but sorry, no. I guess I am out my money, as I spent so much time trying to get better quality I can't return it now. Wanna buy one cheap?

Please do yourself and your wallet a favor-buy another printer besides the Canon i6600D. The inks are very expensive and the amount of ink in each cartridge is so small you will be replacing them every other week. Canon wont let the consumer purchase alternative ink cartridges so they charge huge prices for each one. I wish I had read this review before I bought my printer.

I had initially bought a less expensive Canon printer. My graphics department sneered at a photo I brought in. So that night I exchanged for the 6600D. Printed the same photo and the same people asked, "Oh, is that the original lab print?"The printer gives the freedom of producing ok prints or spectacular - just depends on how much you want to spend for paper - the glossy PRO paper is the best and has the weight and texture of film prints.Also I like the individual color cartridges - way more economical than the universal color cartridges you have to replace when Black runs out and everything else is still full! Also, when you open the ink cartridge area, all the cartridges glow red - like something out of 2001: A Space Odyssey - so there is definitely some geek appeal too!

I just purchased this printer last night and was stunned at the image quality. Granted, I shoot with a Canon Digital Rebel XTi which produces amazing pictures at 10 megapixels, but this printer lives up to those great shots and prints brilliant pictures. I am surprised at the previous reviewer's comment about not being as good as Costco printing. I've also done all my printing there and I would say this is as good, if not better than Costco. This could be due to using high quality Canon paper, but looking at some of these shots, I can't honestly imagine them getting any better. I know Canon has a new 9500 printer coming out in the spring that will do up to 13 inch wide paper, but I couldn't wait and going to Costco all the time was getting annoying, as convinient as it really is. I am so glad I spent what I consider to be a very reasonable amount of money (130 dollars) on this printer, now I'll only be going to Costco for the 12x18's. The printer is VERY easy to use. I printed right off the Compact Flash card using the printer's on-board screen and did plenty of cropping and trimming to make the shots perfect and centered. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. I was printing perfectly within 15 minutes of opening the box. The screen and menus make it so easy and convinient, I haven't even needed to use the computer to print yet. I would highly recomend this printer to anyone who wants stunning prints up to 8.5x11, you will not be dissapointed, it's truly a top-notch printer!

I just go my printer today, replacing my old Canon S600. I am a huge Canon fan and love my old printer. I just bought a Canon Rebel XTI and was really excited to see the iP6600 print up a clear photo quality print. Well to my surpise it did not, I saw the picture and it has a grainy effect to them. Since my brother in law has the same Camera I know it is not the camera. They have a Canon i950s printer and the pictures are so amazing, I was hoping my pictures were going to come out like their's. So I called Customer Service, the lady was really nice (in West Virginia) and we did alot of trouble shooting. When I cleaned the nozzel head on the printer and it printed a sample sheet, I guess the bars on the left should have been all black. But only the black was black the other colors were army green and navy blue. She stated that that was not correct and she will be sending out a new head to replace. I asked her since I just got it out of the box how could this be, she stated that errors can happen since it was made by human's. Well with that said I am not impressed. I am looking on ebay for a printer like my brother in law's if this does not work. Also the text speed is a tad slower that my S600.

This is a great printer that make sharp pictures of almost any size. The colors and clarity rival professional developing. The printer is also very versitile with direct printing from memory cards with an large LCD, printing from the camera, or printing from a computer (how I use it. The included photo manipulation software is very basic and cannot come close to some of the good computer based programs available). The initial cost for this printer is extremely cheap for the the quality of the product. However, this seems to be part of the plan. Their are 6 ink cartridges for this printer. At a cost of $12-$15 per cartridge, it could cost $90 to replace all the cartridges. The tanks also include a computer chip, so only original Canon cartridges can be used. I print a lot of photos, so in the few months I have owned the printer I have spent as much in ink as in the original printer purchase. So it is definitely not cheaper than printing your photos at a photo shop. However, if you value the convenience of printing what you want, when you want, the size you want, after manipulating the photo to look exactly the way you want, then this is a great printer. Just be prepared to pay for the ink. Also, if you don't print that may photos you may find this not much of a problem.

I have used Epson printers for several years, partly due to the ability to use third-party inks. This Canon 6600D, although last year's hardware, is still a terrific printer and a terrific buy. The ink is about one-third of Epson ink, so I do not have to use third-party inks. It produces wonderful photos on photo paper, although the quality on plain paper is less striking. Prints relatively fast, the thing reads all cards other than xD, and the screen is very userful.

Printing photos that you've taken and tweaked yourself has always been scads of fun.That is until you need more INK ! To me that is the biggest drawback, the second is photo paper. Although paper prices are more reasonable these days they could/should be lower. Back to the ink; I recently needed ink for my HP Photosmart printer.Well guess what !!! I discovered that by shopping around, I could get a new printer (with the ink) for about what the ink alone would cost about $75 (Expensive) for a Color and a B&W cartridge. Go figure.....So, anyway I opted to replace the HP with a Canon PIXMA iP6600D, $135.95 with free shipping from Amazon. My photos are crisper and sharper and it prints a whole lot faster than the HP. Among it's many, many features one of my favorites is being able to load two different types of paper. One type in the feeder the other in it's tray. Right now I have standard printer paper in the feeder and 4X6 photo paper in the tray. I can switch which one prints with the push of a button. It also features two sided printing. Thought I forgot about the ink ? This printer has 6 separate ink tanks. So, If I run out of one color, I don't have to change the complete color cartridge (all the colors). I just replace that one color tank for about $10 or $12. Another bonus is that I get more prints per tank than the HP.Setup is a snap, whether you're using a windows PC or an Apple Mac. The quick start guide is clear and concise. There is only one thing that I can fault Canon for; Not the printer, it's that they don't include a USB cable. I used the one from the HP. So, if you should buy this printer, also buy a USB printer cable if you don't already have one. This is a excellent printer with lots and lots of features. It's well worth much more than I paid for it.

I have owned about 8 ink jet printers in my lifetime and I would say for $100 this is without a doubt the best printer I have ever owned. I do not do a lot of text printing and when I do it is usually not for anything but for informational purposes (maps, addresses, etc). Mostly I purchased this printer for pictures based on what I read on PC Mag's web site and Amazon's.I purchased this item with free shipping and I couldn't be more pleased. It's quiet, and the pictures are amazing. I do not use all the options like the LCD screen because I use photoshop for my pictures once they are oploaded to my computer but extra's couldn't hurt. Heck for $100 it's a steal since currently the ink itself online is almost that price. I have used shutterly, a printing house and then my Canon and I actually prefer my Canon over the rest. Plus I can adjust the size, and make all of the photoshop adjustments on the fly vs you get what you get when you buy something online. Get it while it lasts!!!
