Performed as described in various reviews. I have used it to shoot in low light situations indoors without flash as well as for outdoor bright light action shots. I couldn't be more happy with this DSLR camera. Product arrived on time.

You put this camera in your hand and you know you are holding a quality product. Takes great pictures and is capable of most adjustments if you know what to adjust. We prefer the auto mode which takes care of the hassle but many settings are available if desired. Especially like the large LCD panel that can be rotated if desired. To get maximum benefit out of this camera I recommend reading the manual from front to cover. This can be a simple point and shot camera but if you want to achieve the maximum potential you definately need to become familiar with all aspects of its capability. This is not a small camera but fills the hand when holding it and it does have a solid but not heavy feel. Also the menus are very easy to read and understand. Very user friendly. Very impressed so far. The wife and I are not professional camera buffs but just like to take good pictures without too much trouble. This camera has been just the ticket for us. Have owned many Canon products and have yet to be disappointed.

I've been using a 40D for three years for landscape, vacation and sports photography. After taking several photography workshops in the West I wanted to upgrade my camera to one that allowed focusing through live-view (7D, 5DMII, 60D all offer this) and higher ISO sensitivity for shooting in low light. After studying many reviews I opted to buy the 60D body since I didn't want to spend the additional $700 for the 7D body. I enjoyed using the 60D over the 40D for the following reasons: Live View focusing (the ability to zoom in 5x and 10x to get tack sharp images), high ISO sensitivity, better and more accurate metering, the swivel screen is very useful for macro and video. All of the ergonomics (body size, single function buttons on top, quick menu on back, new control dial) were fine. Many reviews criticized the changes but I didn't have any problems. I did use the camera to shoot a couple of water polo games. I thought the FPS would be fast enough when matched with 2000 ISO (pools always have terrible lighting) for higher shutter speeds. However, the slower first shot time and the slower continuous shooting times caused me to miss almost every critical action shot I attempted. I also disliked have to spin the mode control from TV through 8 settings to get to video setting and back when capturing short videos in between shots. This was cumbersome and over the long term I'm afraid this will fail. So I've sent the camera back and will contemplate whether to spend the money on the 7D. I think the 60D is a very good camera that is a worthy upgrade to the 40/50D unless your shooting sports - then the 7D is the right choice for now.

I've been using my 60D for wildlife and astro imaging for over 1 year - in temperatures as low as 35 degrees (using an AC adapter for astro imaging). I am extremely pleased with its performance and find the articulating screen a joy to use. It's not quite as robust as my 40D, but has superior image quality, allowing me to get the best out of my lenses and telescopes - the 4.3 micron pixels are invaluable in obtaining the sharpest photographs. I have absolutely no complaints about how the camera performs - for conventional photography. For video, it uses MOV files which I find to be cumbersome at best. Since I rarely shoot video it has not been too much of a problem. Highly recommended!

This is my second Canon DSLR camera that comes with defective CMOS sensor pixels out of the box. The first was a Canon 450D, purchased in Europe.Yes, it's a great camera and I would still get a replacement but checking for dead pixels on the SENSOR should be a basic quality control on a camera that praises itself to be made in Japan. Moreover, not having any local repair shop in NYC is unacceptable for a company at this level. When I called their customer support they said I should send it to some remote location. This means wasted time on a product many people expect to use straight away, maybe even on an upcoming holiday.Such issues make me distrust this company a lot, if i had to go into dslr photography I'd chose Nikon straight away.If you want to make sure the product is ok and don't want any surprises, buy it from a local store and check it thoroughly![UPDATE JAN 2011]Allright, so I could not resist buying a second copy of the camera from a retail store in Washington DC where I got to test it on the spot for obvious failures. It would be cool if someone made a checklist of things to look for when testing a camera in the store, on the spot. For me, a good, quick test for dead pixels would be to switch on live view with the lens cap on. Any dead pixels will show up on the black screen, unless dead pixels appear black as well in which case, test on a white sheet of paper.Luckily this one was just fine and 3 months after having bought it i can say i'm extremely happy with it.I've recently compared it to my 450D which I haven't used since and it really feels a lot better (of course that's what new models appear for) but really, the grip is superb, the screen is vibrant and of great detail not to mention articulated (which I frequently use).Another thing that's awsome is the ability to remote trigger flashes. It even works with TTL for canon flashes which saves you from spending money on transmitters. For any strobist enthusiast it's a great feature!I've had one problem though, which was easily fixed and seems to plague more canon models. The popup flash wouldn't raise after an external flash was mounted because a little metal cling got stuck on the external flash sensor in the hotshoe.Overall, I think it's a great camera that really feels way better than the rebel series, just make sure you get a good copy!

For the price you pay and even with that thrown aside this is one of the best dslrs you can get. If you are into sport photography or are a videographer the 1080p HD recording capability with both 24p and 30 are worth the money. Boasting a 18 mp sensor (same as t2i up to 7D) this camera with flip open and rotating LCD screen are fantastic. The ability to shoot at 5.3 fps and with a shutter speed of 1/8000 to 30" is impressive for the price. Very satisfied!

I've been looking to upgrade from my Rebel Xti for about a year now. I've had my eye on the T2i for quite some time but was never able to pull the trigger. When the 60d first hit the market I took a close look at it but never gave it much thought considering what it offered vs. the price point. I told myself to wait for the t3i and I'm glad I did. This brought the 60d price down to the point where it had to give it a second look. (I paid $899 for body only) .Canon EOS 60D 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD (Body Only)Side note: If you are wondering if you should upgrade your X series to a 60d or T2i or T3i I would give a hearty YES. The increased ISO capabilities, increased resolution and newer Canon processor really DO make a difference in picture quality. Also the swivel display is beautiful and gives you a much better 'real time' view of your photos.Although I like to take my camera hiking a lot, a smaller camera is preferable, but here is what I like about the 60d vs.the T3i. (Keep in mind I've never used a t2i or t3i so some of what I'm saying is coming from what I have seen from the multitudes of other reviews I have seen.)Pro's#1 Better Battery! Same as the 7d's. This is a big deal since I am used to my Xti where the battery would last for days since there was no "live view" on the display. I've never had to carry a second battery. So far the 60d battery has been very good and charges very quickly.#2 It feels more balanced with quality, i.e., heavier lenses. I am current using a fairly heavy Canon 17-55 F2.8 IS.#3 All cross type focus vs. center only on T3i.#4 It's faster. 5.3fps vs 3.7 fps which does matter when shooting ANYTHING that moves.Cons#1 Beefier camera for traveling, needs a sturdier mount also if your using a tripod.#2 Price, slightly more expensive that T series.Hope this helps. Happy snapping.

I do stock of photos for several stock of photo companies based on the internet. The Canon 60D is a perfect option to use with the Canon L lenses due to the high amount of megapixels (18mp) this camera can register. It is also an excellent option for photographers who are not willing or not ready to pay for the Canon 5D Mark II. It has almost the same amount of megapixels for a lower price. The quality of the images is wonderful. Plenty of details if used with good glasses such as the Canon L lenses. The display on the back of the camera is a huge plus. Easy to use and great quality. It is quite lighter that the Canon 50D. I do not think that the change in construction (from Magnesium to Alumni) lower the quality of the cameras at all. 60D is lighter and that works for me wonderfully. Maybe the only thing that I dot not appreciate about this new camera is the lock button on the top of the dial. For me it is completely useless and do more harm than good. It actually slows me down. Fantastic Camera... Great image quality... Lighter... Lower price... Wonderful Display... What else can you expect from a DSLR camera under US$ 1,000.00? Go get it... No regrets...Update 01:Took a lot of photos with my new Canon 60D. Very sharp photos... a little grainig but easy to fix in Photoshop. I was expecting that since Canon used a small sensor in a 18MP camera. I like that fact that it is LIGHTER than my old and retired forever 40D. I do not mind that this new version has a construction that looks like a T2i more that a 40D or 50D. No problem for me. Joystic? Well, I used to used it on my old 40D very seldon so I do not miss it at all. I also think that joystics go better with videogames, not with cameras... Ha ha ha.By the way... I am not an amateur photographer... So, I think I know what I am speaking about... Ha ha ha :-)Update 02: Still think that that stupid lock on the top of the dail is the only bad thing that I could possible say about this Camera. It is useless and just slows me down. Why Canon? Why? Please, fire the guy who gave this ridiculos idea!

I bought this camera to use in my photography business and I love it! When used with a battery grip I can shoot good quality video clips and take great still photos and never run out of power. The kit lens is decent, so a photo enthusiast will be happy with the camera right out of the box. Has a lot of nice features and the controls are well set up. I have used this camera to shoot weddings and other events, as well as for nature photography. This camera is at its best when shooting in RAW format, but 18 meg. jpegs are pretty nice too. An all around great camera for the price, that I would highly recommend.

I am still learning how to use this camera's many capabilities, but after a month of fairly intensive use I love it.I recently switched to Canon after a lifetime of using Olympus products. I've never wanted the size and bulk of the top-end professional models but I need a sturdy, reliable camera and superb metering under a wide range of conditions. This camera is outstanding. I've shot in a wide range of conditions (back-lit, sunsets, dark, daylight, indoors) and the metering is flawless. The operation is very smooth.Considering the very wide range of the zoom (18-135mm, the equivalent of about 28-200mm in a "normal" SLR), the optical quality is very good.Other outstanding features of the camera: large and very clear rotating viewing screen, very clear viewfinder, good flash. If you need real SLR capability, this is an excellent choice.

I have two other EOS film cameras so this being my first digital SLR I was looking forward to using it. I had researched the Canon line in my price range and was down to the T3i and 60D. One of the reviews I read for the T3i stated that with most lenses the camera wanted to tilt forward (lens downward) due to the lack of weight of the camera as there was not enough weight to counter-balance the lens. It also got great reviews for video. I wanted a regular camera and not a video camera and after handling the T3i in a store I didn't like it. I was also able to put the 60D in my hands and I loved the weight and feel it had. It has a great balance with the Canon 24-105 lens I use on it. I am still learning about this camera but it took some great shots of the Colorado Mountains. I am not disappointed with my purchase and do not have second thoughts about whether I should have purchased the T3i.

i have seen some stuff on here complaining about the video of the 60D or the photo in my opinion maybe u are just to much of a beginner or need to find out how to use it.the camera is amazing i use it mostly for cinematography and time lapses and it more than gets the job doneto compare to a nikon at the same price would be a waste of my time because a D7000 doesn't match it and is more expensivei have used a 7D a lot i think they are pretty equal in most areas the things that make the 7D better have no purpose to me i would take the flip out screen for better angles over a magnesium body i like the 7D but not worth 500 more dollars to me.i don't care for the specs this is hands down a great camera that has tons of potential.

I was looking to upgrade my Canon Rebel XSI and was stuck between the 60D and the 7D. I was able to borrow a 60D for a few days and instantly fell in love with the results of my images. It works great in low light, the colors are breathtaking ( a lot less time editing), although it's a little bigger than my XSI it still fells comfortable, I love the swivel screen, it saves me from throwing myself on the floor to get akward shots! I do all kinds of photography but lately I have been doing a lot of night photography and this system blows my XSI out of the water. So far, I have no complaints at all, this system is amazing!!! The only reason I did not go with the 7D was because of the size, I felt as though I was going to drop it. The grip was too big for my hand. Also the fact that it did not have the swivel screen! Save the money and get the 60D! I highly recommend it to everyone!!!

I was looking to replace my 20d when this model came out, but was really disappointed to find out that magnesium alloy body is no more, and 60d is not really an upgrade (so everyone said), since it doesn't belong in the same pro-sumer slot as 20d. This upset me so much I decided to wait for 7d mark II to come out (or whatever would be the next swivel screen pro-sumer camera). Then a year later and no sign or rumor of anything new being released, I decided to get 60d.I am pretty impressed so far (only had the camera for a week), LSD screen is HUGE, the previews are bright and sharp, and make shooting/previewing so much more enjoyable. Images are more detailed since the sensor is better, the shutter is much more quiet, autofocus is much more precise. For some reason even viewfinder seems brighter and bigger. Some button placement has changed, but I think it makes more sense to have them this way, to me at least. My point is, if you go from 20d to 60d, it IS an upgrade, a huge one as the matter of fact. So if you are like me, don't wait for a year, just go ahead and buy it already!Oh, and i completely forgot about the added bonus, it shoots movies too! Duh!

The last SLR I owned was a Canon Rebel 2000 35mm. I liked that camera, but until digital came along, I could never really understand how to set my camera the way I wanted to. That is, not without wasting rolls and rolls of film. Something I never could justify doing. Then came the digital age of photography and I embraced it with a passion. But until recently I could never afford another SLR. Along comes the Canon 60D and a surgery that required three weeks of recovery (a blessing in disguise). Sitting in my recliner with my Canon 60D in hand, I watched every youtube video and every article I could find on the internet about photography and the 60D itself (literally hundreds of hours). It was a free college course in photography from my easy chair. And in the process I got to know my new camera inside and out. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed. It has everything an aspiring amateur is looking for in a camera (other places will give better details than me). I must say that every time I think that my camera might be lacking in one area or another, I have been proved wrong. I do recommend that if you are buying this camera, I would get a kit lens with it. I opted to get just the body, because I still had the lenses from my Rebel Camera, but the kit lenses are made for the new digitals and for a couple hundred dollars more you get a good performing lens.

Just received this camera in the mail last week as an upgrade to my XSi. If you are contemplating the same move, i will tell you it's definitely worth it for the improved ISO performance alone. I took a few indoor shots without a flash at ISO 800. Compared to my XSi, the 60D blew it away. I am also very happy with the higher burst rate. Definitely worth having with kids in the house.Video: using the kit lens (18-135mm) I'd suggest only filming in a well lit area until you get a better lens. I needed to set my ISO over 2,000 to achieve visibility on the screen. I took my Panasonic SD60 camcorder and had no problem shooting good video with low/no grain in the same room/lighting. However, shooting video in a well lit room produced great results but at times it was difficult to tell if i had the subject in focus on the swivel screen. Some of the ergonomics that people have issues with are true but not enough to deter me from buying this camera. The reviewer below me(by date) named them all:1) on/off switch: very small tab to flip over.2) That left dial: wish it would rotate continuously instead of having a stop point. I don't switch modes too often so it's not a huge issue but if you do like to switch modes, i can see it as a future frustration.3) When having the screen flipped out, you realize the delete photo/video button is in a bad position. The fix: don't have the screen flipped out or delete the photos at a later time. I prefer to delete the bad photos/videos immediately after shooting so it's an irritant.Overall, I would recommend this camera as an upgrade over the older Rebel series and as a first time user of DSLR's. OTOH, it would be difficult to recommend this over the T3i unless you need the higher burst speedI will report back in a few months after some more extensive usage. I've only taken about a dozen videos and a hundred photos so far.

I bought my 60D last November 2010 through Amazon!!! I love love amazon!!!Anyways, almost all the things I wanted to say has been said. I have a rebel xt and for some reason, it wasn't as user-friendly as I thought it would be. I didn't like that the monitor is too small and that I can't use it as viewfinder. So, after months of research, I decided to go with 60D (instead of the 7D) and I have been using it since. What I like most about my 60D is that it has an awesome swiveling monitor, weird angles are not a problem anymore. Also, I like that it uses an SD card vs rebel's CF card. So far, that's all I can think of...It really is an upgrade and I shouldn't be comparing the two but the lack of some of the key features in my rebel xt led me into getting my 60D.You can see some of my work on my website [...] Hope this helps.

Pros:Seriously fast. Excellent picture quality. Well weighted, feels great in your hands. Menus and user interface intuitive.Cons:Issue with built-in flash being permanently disabled after using an external flash. It doesn't matter if you remove the external flash or not, the built-in will not function. This is a known issue and can be fixed by Canon.I upgraded from a Canon Rebel XTi to this camera. The difference, obviously, is major. I really wanted to move up to a 5D Mk II, however, the price just wasn't justifiable to me. The 7D did not seem to have any additional features that I required so I made the decision on the 60D.I am absolutely satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend this camera to just about anyone. Beginners keep in mind there will be a learning curve associated with this camera, however, it isn't any more than any other product on the market.

Received the EOS 60d about 2 weeks ago. This is my first DSLR. I have had many point and shoot digital Canon cameras over the years and was pretty happy with them, but my wife and I are having a baby in 6 months and wanted a better quality camera that did stills and video. I went back and forth for weeks between the T2i and the Nikon D90 before finally settling on the 60D. The reason I choose it over the T2i was the bigger size, all nine AF points are cross type sensors, the articulating (high res) LCD, burst speed (5.3 FPS vs 3.7FPS), Pentaprism vs Pentamirror viewfinder, and the kit lens (28mm-135mm). I almost choose the D90 which is a very good camera, but it didn't support SDXC cards and the video modes are not as good. The 60d is newer technology and I wanted to future proof as much as I could. Luckily for me I had $500 worth of gift cards so I didn't pay the full price of the camera out of pocket. It cost $1299.99 on Amazon at the time I purchased it. I am very happy with the camera. I have not had time to take advantage of all the cool features yet, but I will. There is so much that I can do with this camera I know it will last me for years and years. I have read a couple of EOS 60d specific books and they have been really helpful getting me familiar with all of the buttons and controls. People have complained about the buttons and the d-pad controller on the camera, but I have not had any problem with them. They feel good and solid to me. Maybe because I did not have any other DSLR to compare it to. This camera has so much to offer me and I know I made a good purchase. If anything this camera may be more than I needed, but I feel like I have a camera that I can grow with as my photography skills increase. I rather buy one camera for 1299 and keep it for a long time than buy twice because I out grew the cheaper one. Enjoy this fantastic piece of technology.

This is my very first D-SLR and a big jump from the film world (had a Rebel 2000 earlier which was untouched for about 4 years now). Anyway, I was undecided between the 60D and T3i and finally made up my mind on the 60D. I am glad I did because it is so easy to change whatever is needed with the 60D menu buttons. I really disliked the T3i way of getting things done by looking at the viewfinder/LCD monitor. I think the extra dollars go toward:1) Better Focus points (all 9 cross types vs single cross type in T3i)2) Better battery life (way more than T3i)3) Quick and easy menus (LCD panel is definitely way better at-least for me)4) Viewfinder is pentaprism (vs pentamirror in T3i)5) Slightly better weather-proofing (compared to T3i)I think from a price point and feature wise 60D is a good middle ground between the T3i and 7D.Took some really awesome pictures first couple of days and also took it to a test drive at the local beach. Changing ISO, drive modes, aperture, you name it is real easy and focus with the 18-135 kit lens is fast. I am from the Point and Shoot world so focus speed seems really fast and I've certainly not used the USM lens series.I've had this camera for less than a week and so far most of it is very intuitive. There are a few occasional quirky things for which I have to check out the manual. The EOS utility is not great but seems to do the basic job.

I struggled with my decision to "upgrade" to this 60D from my 40D due to the controversy around this camera, and whether it was really an upgrade to the 40D[...]Here's why I wanted to upgrade to the 60D- swivel screen (you get some great shots that are just not possible when you have to look through the lens)- higher res screen (the 40D screen seems dated when you have an iPhone 4 to compare it to)- better low light performance (the 40D isn't bad, but couldn't compete with the iPhone 4 camera in low light)- wireless flash synchHere's what I was concerned about- plastic body (I had a rebel, then a 30D, then 40D...could I really step back down to a plastic body?)- loss of joystick control, smaller scroll wheel, and smaller LCD on top- CF to SD flash cardsStuff I didn't care about- video- higher mega pixelsFINAL THOUGHTS- it definitely feels cheaper between the plastic body and the loss of physical controls, but on the plus side, it's lighter and smaller, and feels sturdy enough...so if I can get my ego out of the way, it's a reasonable tradeoff...especially because I do a lot of travel photography- image quality and low light performance is not noticeably better to me than that of my 40D- the swivel screen is cool, but focusing and metering in live view is very disappointing...manual is the only way to go- frustrating to re-buy memory in SD format. A 16GB card with RAW + JPEG holds about 400 photos- screen resolution is phenomenal- wireless flash control is amazing, lots of new creative possibilities- video quality, while not important to me, is very impressive...but must be done in manual mode, autofocus is worthless- overall...I'm going to keep the 60D and probably put my 40D on eBay eventually...the "upgrade" is generally worthwhile...but it's a mixed bag.
