First let me say I am still new to photography. I've been shooting with dslr's for a little over a year and love it. I started with a t2i a couple of months after it's release. That camera was good to me but I grew out of it in about 2 months. Once I started shooting weekly I felt as the t2i wasn't durable enough due to it's weak platic feel. It also couldn't do things I needed it to do without going into the menus to make changes along with other things. I decided to look for upgrades in the canon family and was deciding between the 6oD and the 7D. A buddy I know stopped by my office and was showing off his 7D which I thought was nice but a little on the heavy side. It also has a higher price tag then I was looking to spend. I started looking at videos on you tube and found a video called "60D training video" it's from canon. Once I seen this video I immediately went out and purchased one. It has so many cool features for video and photo. The build is much better, the look with the swivel LCD , the grip fits my hand perfectly! When it comes to quality of the photos and video the t2i/60D/7D are not much different(also depends on your lens), Though I think my 60D performed better in low light for video. My 60D also has a faster burst which is great for when I am at the zoo with my kids or watching my nephew's baseball game catching all the action! If you decide to purchase this camera you will not be disappointed.

If you are set on buying a Canon then save up for the 7D. If you are getting your first D-SLR I would highly suggest checking out the Nikon D5100 because it outshines the 60D on many levels. If you are trying to decide between this and the T3i then go with this.I wish I saved up for the 7D.

Shot several hundred pictures with this camera so far with the Canon 50MM F1.8. Other camera is a Canon T1i with a Tamron 17-50 F2.8 DI lens. Shoot both cameras on Manual as much as possible. 60D takes nice pictures. Holds on to detail at high ISOs better than the T1i. 60D has noticeably snappier action. Comparing the RAW files between the 2 cameras, the 60D has A Lot More Color Noise. The 60D is noiser than the Canon T1i overall. Overall, at lower ISOs, I think the T1i takes prettier pictures. The wireless flash control works well, especially using the Canon 580EXII flash.

I tried the canon 60D and nikon D7000 and decided to go with the 60D.60D was less expensive than the D7000.60D raw editing software came with camera and was free yet very powerful.D7000 did not come with raw editing software and costs an additional $180 for capture NX2 :-(Video on the 60D is more cinematic with more manual control.60D will film at 60 fps and D7000 max frame rate is 30 fps. 60 fps great for slow motion and analyzing my golf swing.60D is lighter and easier to carry around.60D has a much bigger buffer when taking many continuous shots. The D7000 buffer would fill up after about 3 seconds of taking raw photos.

The only thing I can complain about is the plastic body. I would've really liked to see it with a magnesium body like the 50. Other than that its a beautiful camera. I use it primarily for filming, and for photo recreational use. I love the video on this camera. The swivel screen, as small a detail as it seems, is actually very useful. I didn't think how much of a difference it would make until I started to shoot narratives and documentaries with it. And the depth of field and the color on it is fantastic. For one of the cheaper DSLRs, it packs a really great punch.

Fantastic camera and worth the extra $180 over the T3i. The lesser priced models feel cheap compared to the 60D and 7D. I like that you can shoot both RAW and Jpeg at the same time without having to press a temp function like on the 7D.It arrived quickly even though it was on back order. It would be nice if Canon would offer better lenses with their kits for this camera.

While I am new to DSLRs I am not new to photography. There is a learning curve with this camera. It has many functions that allow pictures to be taken in many different settings and allow the photographer to really create something special. While you could just put it on auto, it really defeats the purpose of all the power that manual allows. Take the time and learn how to use it. You will be rewarded. Otherwise there are plenty of good point-and-shoots out there.

As earlier Canon did not disappoint me. I owned a Powershot for a little more than 5 years and decided to move to a DSLR as I felt the controls provided by Powershot were too less for the kind of photos that I wanted to capture. Also, I was not ready to take the big DSLR bull by horn and was looking for an intermediate yet powerful DSLR and am now glad that I chose EOS 60D. Canon's swivel LCD, excellent controls, sturdy build and a great kit lens, make this camera my best one so far.A tip - Along with this kit lens, buy a prime lens like Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens (right now its 100$ on Amazon and is a great value for the price)and you wouldn't need any other lens for years to come (unless you are a professional or if you really want to shoot a whale pod from the top of Space Needle).

I replaced a Nikon D80 with this, wanting a few more megapixels as I like to make enlargements up to 24x36 or a little bigger. I liked my Nikon but the reviews I read in magazines seemed to give the edge to this Canon over the corresponding Nikon. I should state that I'm not a 'photographer' per se. Meaning, I pretty much shoot in 'Auto' or 'Program' mode all the time with just a few exceptions. So take that into consideration regarding this review. What I've found is that the Nikon D80 seemed to do a better job in 'Auto' mode for me. Obviously, in the hands of someone who has taken the time to learn photography basics, this is a phenomenal camera I'm sure.

This replaced my Canon Digital Rebel XT (which still hangs out but in the background). Originally, I was torn between this and the T2i/T3i - boy am I happy I took the plunge. Notably because more of the customizable settings are far more accessible with the top-mount LCD and controls. With my old XT and the T2/3i, these settings are buried in menus.Having the fine-tuning controls such as AF and ISO so easily accessible opens many new doors. Not to mention, this camera takes great pictures. If you're replacing an entry-level DSLR like I was, this is what you want (at minimum anyway!). Go for it.

The Canon 60D with the 18-135mm zoom lens. The lens has enough versatility that it hasn't been a problem that I haven't been able to afford any more lenses yet. So far a joy to use, Taking fine photos, and beautiful HD video. I bought it primarily for it's video function and am currently using it for the production of two movie projects. It is easy to use if you're familiar with SLR or DSLR cameras. Used to be an ardent Nikon man until I found this camera and I personally love it.

This is my first DSLR, although I have had excellent results for the past 3 years with the Canon G9. I am only beginning to explore the potential of this camera, however, in my case coupled the the Canon EF-S 15-85MM lens, I am already producing pictures with amazing results. First, the low light sensitivity of this camera is impressive. In dark settings with minimal light the camera produces images with stunning clarity and color, more so than can be observed with the naked eye. Second, the adjustable view finder is very handy when taking pictures at odd angles. Third, the video capabilities are also first rate with HD capture and excellent quality. The combination with the EF-S 15-85MM lens is an excellent starting point for a more advanced journey into digital photography. Just make sure to buy a larger capacity SD card with class 6 or greater speed, this camera will capture and deliver megabytes at an astounding rate, especially in video mode. A 4GB card will fill in 12 minutes at maximum quality settings. Overall, I would highly recommend this camera to those interested in exploring photography in a greater capacity.

This is a great state of the art camera with one major flaw. There appears to be a conflict between the hot shoe and the built-in flash. The hot shoe may be erroneously reporting to the built-in flash that an external flash is still mounted on the hot shoe. The bottom line is, there's no way to open the built-in flash. Google something like and you'll find an avalanche of 60D owners trying to figure out how to open and use their built-in flash. Many report fixing the problem by probing the tiny leaf springs beneath the hot shoe rails. I tried it, but not to vigorously because I was reluctant to possibly damage the two springs. In an email from Canon they had me run through every routine they could think of in hopes of resetting the camera. None of this worked so today I UPS'd the camera to Canon. It was $8 to ship to Canon 56 miles away and about $25 for $1100 in insurance. That's a total of $33.00 and your warranty won't cover it.Judging from various forums, the 7D has a similar problem. The 60d is a great camera, but Canon needs to wake up and pay more attention to engineering or they'll start losing market-share in DSLR's.

When I was shopping I kept going back and forth on whether the price differences between the T2i, T3i and 60D were worth it. The 7D was definitely out of my price range. I am very happy with the 60D. The price difference only stung for a short time. By the time I was through the first photo shoot, I forgot all about it...and that was just taking a picture of a dripping water faucet. When a total amateur can get a falling drip of water in perfect focus with a beautifully blurred background (using a 50mm f/1.4 lens) with hardly any light in the kitchen right out of the box...there is something to be said for the camera. I am not sure the T2i or T3i can shoot fast enough for me to grab that...Now I just need a better card so I can get more than 10 pix at high speed before it bogs down.

The Canon 60D is my second DSLR that I have owned. The first one I bought early fall 2010. It also was a canon. I was so pleased with all of it's features, image quality and versitility. After just 2 weeks with this camera I have had great success with this camera. It took about this 2 weeks to really get use to the controlls. However, I have spent sometime with the 60D and I have only good things to say. The controlls are all very accessible and easy to use once it the 60D been studied and gotten use to. The multicontrol pad and dials function very well with no lag. This camera is a joy to use. The digital screen on back makes taking video and photos at angles other than straight shots fun and exciting. The image quality is professional and very crisp. The build quality, while not magnesium alloy, is of high quality and great for all day shooting. I highly recommend it. I could have bought any camera except a hassel blaud 20K; the Canon 60D was the right choice for me and probably for may seeking a great DSLR that really fits and exceeds their needs and not their ego.

I bought this camera just to capture great detail when taking pics of my portrait art to post on my website. My expectations have been exceeded and I am so happy I chose this camera over all the others I researched. The HD-video on this camera is a really nice feature as well. After I purchased it I found out that I had to have a class 6 or higher sd card in order for the video feature to work. So, I bought a class 10 sd card and now the video feature runs flawlessly. I've the camera now for about a month and I am still learning new things about it. Check out some pics I've taken with it that I've posted on my website. [...]

I am in love with my 60D! The photos are super sharp, the lighting excellent (and great even at high ISOs.). The video is hi-quality and very smooth (that is when I'm not moving it like crazy). I shoot professionally and bought this to replace my XSi. I already have a 50D. It only took me a few times on my 60D to get used to the controls being on the left (as opposed to the 50D which are on the right). Overall, I couldn't be happier!

This is the purchase from Amazon that makes me proud. This camera is a great buy for beginners as well as professional/semi-professionals. If you've never tried a dSLR and want to try one, Canon EOS 60D is a great place to start. Ideally, for better photos, you should get a good quality tripod and a good remote control. But the image stabilization in the lens and the body both give a great picture if you hold your camera reasonably steady. A good add-on would be a nice polarizer or some filter. Try the manual mode in this product and you'll get to see the array of things you can do with raw images.1. Very good documentation2. Very good body construction3. Excellent lens - I wish the aperture were more, but then it would cost far more.4. Great stabilization5. 1/8000th of a second shutter speeds.

If you're considering spending the extra money on a 60D over the T2i. Do it. It's worth every penny.I've owned both and on paper there's not much difference, but in your hand the 60D is massively better. The ergonomics and the features are a big leap up.I bought my 60D mainly to shoot video. There are a lot of great additions over the T2i like dialing in colour temperature and full control over audio (you can shut off Automatic Gain Control). The flip out screen is the most obvious addition which makes life a lot easier on a tripod. But I do take a lot of stills too and I've always been a Nikon shooter. The T2i and the 60D have been my first Canon cameras. I didn't like the T2i for stills, in fact, I stopped using it and it became a video camera only. For video, the T2i was great. It's small, light and easy to use, but for stills, I could never get the metering to play nicely without a lot of fiddling. Sometimes I'd just fire off shots and preview until I got it working right. I found it erratic and cumbersome. Now I'm sure part of that is switching Nikon to Canon. However, I've had none of those issues with the 60D. The ergonomics are great. It does what I want it to, when I want it to. The buttons are easy to get to and allow fast changing of ISO, metering type, etc. The top LCD screen is also a great addition that makes a big difference for stills.I loved my T2i, but I'm even more in love with the 60D; the ergonomics are better, no AGC and the killer feature (ironically) is that it's a great stills camera too.

So dissapointed with Canon. If you bought this 60D together with the 18-135mm kit lense, check your video mode and make sure you like it. Rotate the dial to video and hold your lense close to your ear, you will hear some kind of static noise coming out from the lense. Just on video mode only. The noise is being recored into the video and you will hear it while playing the video on your LCD TV. At first I thought I just got a bad unit so I returned the first unit and exchange for the second one, however, i still got the same type of noise on the second one. So, the conclusion is, Canon has a bad design, not bad units!!I actually bought both 60D and the Nikon D7000. The D7000 is just so pretty in every aspects. The feeling, the features, the sound, the quality, etc. It really makes the 60D looks ugly. You won't realize your wife is ugly before you met your sexy gf. Besides of the noise from the video mode from the 60D, everything else are just noisy. The lense is noisy and even the shutter sound like you accidentally slap on your own face while chasing down that irritating mosquito. The dial is rough in 60D and the D7000 is just nice and smooth. D7000 is just driving a Lexus on the freeway and the 60D is just a Jeep rolling down the hill of the valley. I think the noise from the lense + the shutter + the dial will probably more than enough to piss that guy sitting next to me in the concert!! He'll ask me..."..do you mind??"Anyway, both of them have good picture quality. D7000 has a lot more features. Haven't checked the other Canon lenses yet if they are making the same type of noise on video mode since I'm new. Will buy more lenses later. So, not sure if they are all the same or just the issue of the kit lense.

Recently upgraded from the T1i to the Canon 60D and all I can say is this camera takes some pretty sweet pictures. So far it has been a blast although it is quite heavier than the Canon T1i. My one and only gripe, which is the poorly designed controls. I dont usually write reviews and complain about anything, but with the amount of money I paid for this, I felt the need to air out my frustrations over this product. It takes two hands to operate this camera, compared to the T1i which was a dream to handle. Power button and mode dial on the L, menu/shutter buttons on the right. It seems I continue to struggle and twist my hands just to operate the 60D. Its a control geography nightmare that resembles the earlier netbooks with the mess up shift key(for those who can relate). There is just no excuse for that kind of design mishap. I sure wish Canon consulted photographers before designing this because, its bothering me more than i thought it would. Unfortunately, I would have to endure it for now. The T2i, which is a lower model, would have been a better choice. Or the 7D, if you could afford it. Just be aware of this major flaw before purchasing. The 18-200mm lens is not perfect but I am happy I get to lessen my lens changing. I do miss the extra 50mm from my old lens. Maybe they would create a 18-300mm, that would really be something for us photographers who get lazy to switch lenses. This is sort of my last Canon upgrade for awhile, and will evaluate later on if maybe a Nikon move would be a better avenue for my hobbies.
