The scanner did not work. The paper would not feed into the scanner but a blank image would be saved to my computer. It also seemed that the default image was a JPG file. A letter size scanner with a JPG default ?

Великолепно
Works with both my netbook and laptop. It's perfect. Small, light, and simple. Scans to a perfect resolution. Being in the military and having to deploy/TDY/move/travel so much, this will help me maintain electronic records of orders, receipts, and anything else I need. Highly recommended!

Purchased this scanner as our office is considering going paperless. The learning curve is intuitive, have not had to use the manual at all. The scanner has performed flawlessly, very easy to use. For the last month, averaging 150 scans a week, no issues at all.

Love it! I keep it in the desk and just pull it out when I need to scan something. My only complaint, having been accustomed to a multi-function printer/scanner/copier, is that it neither holds the sheet for you before it scans nor begins scanning when you put in a sheet. Rather, you have to stick the sheet in and hold it there while simultaneously clicking the scan button on your screen. I think PCs with the included software installed can make use of the button on the scanner itself.

It worked OK for two documents right away.Just over two months later it failed. It won't work at all. Tried different cables, computers, etc. No luck. It's past the return timeframe. I wouldn't buy another one based on this experience.

Very high quality scanner for such a small unit. If you have small tasks where you wish you had a certain document on your pc, or you wished you could send a document to someone if you only had a scanner, then you need to get this product. Resolution is flawless. Color scanning is perfect as well.

I have bought three of these for my business, to scan documents from the road and send them in to clients. I only use black and white at 300dpi, which creates a very small file but a very clear image for documents. This scanner does the job well, and none of my three scanners has broken down yet, after 6 months of light use. There are several drawbacks:1) Almost every page gets scanned in a little crooked. I'm thinking that there is a knack to getting it to go through perfectly straight but I haven't figured it out yet, one of my employees does pretty well though. Anyway, it is good enough, but still annoying2) The whole process is tedious with multiple pages, hand-feeding one at a time, going through the program to tell it to scan each page. I shouldn't complain because this is a portable scanner, but one day maybe someone can make a portable scanner that can handle multiple pages by itself.3) Occasionally it has trouble identifying that a piece of paper has been put into the scanner. The easiest solution for me has been to unplug the USB connection, plug it in again and try again.4) You can only scan individual sheets, you can't scan out of books, newspapers, etc., like the HP Capshare 920. (The Capshare is unique in that it was made in the 1990's and is still better than anything on the market today. Unfortunately they stopped making it, you have to find it on Ebay.)Everything else is great, it gets its power from the USB connection and does its job.Update 2/24/2011: It has now been a year, and all three scanners are still running strong, no problems. Problem #3 that I mentioned above has ceased to be a problem, I think I was somehow putting the paper in wrong. You have to slide the paper in far enough to trip a tiny switch, and then allow the scanner to automatically pull the paper in about an inch before you start the scan.

We were looking for a compact, lightweight scanner that could scan single or multiple sheets of paper, business cards and receipts that would fit in a carry-on bag. So far this scanner has been used daily for the last 2 months and we have had no problems. As road warriors we have found it invaluable and will be ordering more for our other computers. For our purposes this has been a great simple and easy to use scanner.

Other user's reviews were helpful, since I have never purchased a scanner before. Was easy to set up and I was able to quickly scan photos to make a slideshow. The only thing was all photos scanned black & white. Not sure if there is a setting to change that but I was in a big hurry so I didn't try to mess with it. Having the whole slideshow in black & white was pretty cool anyway.

I am quite surprised that Amazon lists this scanner as compatible with Mac. I got it at a very good price so I bought this instead of the Fujitsu S1100 based on price, my pretty minimal requirements, and the assertion it was compatible with Mac OS X. If you have Snow Leopard it is, for all intents and purposes, not usable. The TWAIN driver functions, although without third-party scan software it's not possible to calibrate it.The Brother manual (which does not come in the box or on the CD) says to use Image Capture on Leopard to calibrate and scan, and that is acceptable for my purpose. However, the Image Capture that ships with Snow Leopard cannot recalibrate it. It is also worth noting that the manual "scan" button on the scanner does not function with Macs.I virtually never return anything to Amazon, and I've bought hundreds of items from them, but in this case I'm making an exception. It was my mistake for not researching it enough before buying. I feel somewhat better about returning it because Amazon lists it as compatible with Mac, but for all intents and purposes it is not.This is an older design and considerably slower than the Fujitsu. Especially if you're a Mac user, spend a little more and I believe you will be happy you did.

When trying to install on work desktop Win XP Pro, received Windows installer message: this installation package is not supported by this processor type (Intel Xeon). Contact your product vendor. So, I installed on my laptop which is Win7, successfully. The product description doesn't seem to say what OS it was designed for or works with. I just need to scan packing slips, 2 or 3 times a week so the device works as expected but not on the computer I needed it for (at work). Thankfully I do not have a Vista machine to try it out on; perhaps someone else could give that frame of reference.

This unit needs but a single USB connection; no power cord. It does a superb job of scanning all sizes and takes up very little space on your desk. The price was right and shipping was fast.

This product was initially great, but after a couple months of use most of the scans came out black and I had to clean and calibrate daily for it to work. Business cards and photo IDs came out askew. I emailed Brother about the problems and was told to clean the scanner. I got tired of cleaning and calibrating and at present am looking to purchase a new scanner. I am truly disappointed by this scanner because I had high hopes of success. I will not recommend to anyone.

My only concern is the USB cable plugin into the scanner body is very "iffy" as to making proper contact to function properly. If the scanner USB cable is only slightly moved the scanner will not work. When USB cable is making proper contact @ rear of scanner this scanner is GREAT!!!!!! And it also scans Legal size documents! I love everything about this unit but the fettish USB plugin issue. The reason I gave five stars was because, even with the usb cable issue, the scanner is the perfect mobile device for on the road people. It will do the job! **Note** If scanner doesn't respond, jiggle the USB cable 'til your 'puter beeps recognition. You will love it!

This scanner was easy to install, worked well on single pages as it's designed to do, and saved me a ton of time and effort. Then it died one day and only shows up as "USB2.0 Scanner" in the device manager. Brother is no help, at all. So if you want to spend $140, scan some stuff, and move on - this is for you. If you want a long lasting home-scanner for your single pages, photos, receipts, etc - keep looking.Why 2 stars not 1? When it worked it was great, and easy. Perhaps I got a lemon and I'd give it 3/5. Considering customer support is non-existent, it took another tumble.

Brother DSMobile Scanner (DS-600)This is a very reliable mobile scanner that fits easily into my computer bag. I use it extensively as I am a Road Warrior. It is easy to use, saves files in various photo formats, as well as as a PDF file. Quality is very good. My only complaint is that it is a bit difficult feeding documents so that they scan straight (not crooked) aligned. Would recommend to colleagues,other Road Warriors and friends.

This is a great little scanner! It fits anywhere, is lightweight, and fast. It only scans 8 1/2" wide paper, but will take up to 14" length. It scans smaller paper well, but not heavier weight paper. It can only take one document at a time, and when the document is fed properly, it is not difficult to get a straight scan.The software setup is a breeze. It is simple, but includes an option to re-scan, and add additional scans to a single pdf.The image quality is good, though not publishing quallity. I bought it to reduce the piles of paperwork on my desk and for that it is perfect. I've scanned for several hours at a time and it continues to work well.I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this scanner highly.

I needed a scanner in a hurry, because i was going back on the road driving truck. My job requires that you transflow all paper work back to the company so you get paid. They have places for that at truck stops but sometimes there not available when you need it most. Since i had laptop, a scanner was all that i needed. I had five minutes too choose in order to get it the next day. Installed the software and plug it in and wow it's fast and accurate. I would highly recommend it if your a truck driver and need to transflow paper work. Oh Brother this is nice!!

Great product. The only problem I had was taking the time to get it calibrated. It took several passes of the included calibration paper to get it done. The instructions made it sound as if one or two passes were enough but I did it close to ten times and was rewarded with great picture scans.

Great product... Easy to use! Make sure you calibrate it first using the Brother DSmobileSCAN II software before scanning. Lightweight for business travellers like myself. Highly recommended.

The product was a replacement due to a change in my operating system to Windows 7 which the older DS- Mobile scanner did not support. This DS-600 operates as advertiosed with easy setup and scanning. The big plus is that it automatically converts the scanned image to PDF format. It is light, small and fits in my computer bag. The USB cord is long enough to allow scanning without interference.

It takes a couple of tries to find the best method for using this product (i,e, one mode has very large files). Once you play with it and find what you like - the scanner is incredible easy to use.
