Works perfectly on Top spec Dell XPS with onboard sound card not supported in Win 7... whats wrong with Dell.?
Arrived very quickly and in A1 cond, Installation was easy and the sound is extremly clear and high quality.
A very good purchase for the money, Its so cheap, runs well with W7 64bit
Glad I bought it.
This card makes my pc crash. Well actually its the software and also theres an extreme amount of mic interference.
The 5.1 surround sounds alright at best.
Also amplifies the front headphone jack as well.
I wouldn't know much about sound quality but i gave this a go to see if it will be better than on-board audio as soon as the drivers are installed the sound is so much better it's unbelievable.
Sound is louder and has more depth to it.
Definite buy you get your moneys worth.
2.1 Chanel out put. But no spdif out put.
As a headphone amp it works for higher impedance headphones. But
It doesn't support Dolby by default, so required the use of other decoders like ffdshow if you want to play surround sound.
Go and buy
But sound quality is awesome!
The Xonar SE is actually a USB DAC on a PCIe board... Its built in C Media Chipset is actually meant for USB Sound Cards.. But that doesn't mean this is some cheap rip off.. Product lives up to its name and provides crystal clear audio with pure bass.. In my opinion, the Realtek 1220A DAC in this card completely raped my onboard ALC887 in terms of audio clarity, noise, virtually everything... I could hear details in my music I never heard before and more crispy sounds in my games...Completely Satisfied in terms of performance..
Now for the drawbacks.. The provided Sound driver and software is sh!t as hell...It took me around an hour just to find out where all the correct functions are.. Although I downloaded latest version from ASUS Website which is dated 2019, the GUI look like it was made by some fat guy in his momma's basement in 2003... And the default settings won't stick.. If U use speakers and U set speaker as default in audio settings, after a restart, it will go back to headphones again... U have to adjust settings after every restart.. Also the automatic sound switch from rear connection to front panel audio when u connect a headset or speaker in front panel which we got used to in onboard audio is more of a hit or miss in this case... It may switch, or not.. If it did not, U have to go to Xonar audio center and manually click on front panel headphone to switch audio.. Very annoying...
In a nutshell, A great card destroyed by sh!tty software and optimization... Lets hope ASUS gives bit more attention..
My verdict.. Go fot it if U love games and exceptional audio and doesn't mind crappy GUI and optimisation, and pls check other websites and local stores before buying from here at 2.5x original price...
The sonic studio software is also underwhelming.
Overall - NOT recommended, if you have keen ears and can't tolerate distorted sound.
**Update 5 Jan 2020**
Sonic sound studio stopped working on latest Windows 10 builds (1709+)
None of the modes work. It became a garbage card.
Packaging was nice and I got this delivered on Christmas, which is amazing!
About the product, this is a great piece. It's a 1x PCI-E card, no other power required. It has Dolby Headphones, built-in amplifier.
First uninstall any Realtech stuff you have and get the software from Asus website (also register your product there with the serial number, I did the same and my product is a genuine one). Then install the Xonar DGX Audio center and make sure you allow that autorun at startup.
You can then customize the sound card and set it up with the help of the manual you can get from the Asus site.
The sound has a clear boost to it, its crisp and clean across the range. I do see a great improvement in the way my ATH M40X sounds and my Altec Lansing 5.1 already has an amp and this make the sound amazing at any volume levels.
Overall a great product for an audiophile in a budget.
also, it makes things sound better too! how much better depends on what you were using before but for the price you cant go wrong with the gaming boost alone, so even i minor sound improvement is all bonus. i recommend discrete sound cards and NICs to everyone who wants a cheap hardware boost to their gaming rig.
