Great entry level board. Have not tweaked it but the power delivery components are premium and can support an overclocked i9-10900k. See Hardware Unboxed YouTube video for more info.

Basic set of I/O but note that it lacks a USB-C port. Also only four SATA’s but does have dual M.2’s.

Bought this to replace a Z490 board from another company that would not boot up. It either didn't like the two 16gb sticks of 3200MHZ, XMP compliant ram I bought, or it required the extra 4-pin cpu input which I didn't have.

On the chance that the issue was the motherboard, I bought this, installed the cpu, the ram, the video card and tested it with the standard dual, 4-pin cpu inputs. Sweet. First time with no issue. Finished assembly and ran the bios. The ram was initially read as 2133mhz but the XMP I profile boosted it with a click to 3200mhz. I haven't attempted any cpu overclocking at this point, but I did attempt to save my current configuration to a usb drive and I;m still not sure that it has been saved because I can't find it. So, taking a star for that. The issue is there are two drive options to save to, neither of which is my usb drive. I'll have to figure it out, but it shouldn't be a guessing game.

Other than that, satisfied with the motherboard and the compatibility with the components.

Ok so i must explain the whole situation properly. I have an msi 8GB rx 580 graphics card, fully functional as i took it out of my older pc to put into this motherboard and to my suprise there was no display. I did the memory checks etc and it lead me to trying to boot the system on the integrated graphics and it worked. I was shocked so i dropped my old graphics card into my older system and it worked like normal.. I returned to this system which had this motherboard and i installed the windows and when i went into Device manager it appears that the PCI-EXPRESS 3.0 slots are non-functional or they weren`t integrated properly with the mainboard or something. This is the first time something like this has happened to me and i definitely was not expecting it from Asus , the snapshot i included is from the device manager ..computer would not boot with the card and it works perfectly well. I am disappointed in my purchase and will be contacting amazon customer support...Please do believe all the reviews ....i don`t like to say this but i believe asus dropped the ball ...i expected a quality product

Bought a cheap Z series specifically for running faster ram, I can't get this motherboard to run 1.35 or 1.45v ram, I have two systems it works great in the other one but will not even boot on this motherboard. If you're wanting to run anything over the motherboards base 1.15-1.25v ram settings you will need to buy a different brand or higher end motherboard

The first one I ordered was DOA, would not boot into BIOS. The replacement worked fine all the way through Windows install. Then I plugged a new GPU into the board and the ethernet controller stopped working. Removing the GPU didn't help. Looks like something killed the ethernet controller.

BUYER BEWARE

I've used this for a few months now, and upgraded the memory to 128 GB and the CPU to i9-10900.
I have FOUR (now) negative issues to report:

1. Prior to (and after) the memory and CPU upgrades, the USB constantly stops and restarts so my keyboard and mouse die and come back off and on all day with +/- 20 second gaps where they're gone. I also have four external drives connected via USB 3 so they die and come back too. I'm VERY tired of this. If the fact that I'm using all the USB ports is an issue then the board shouldn't have so many USB ports. This is doubled down by dealing with a (new) Corsair K63 Wireless keyboard, which is AMAZING -- when it works and when Windows can find it--which is about three or four times each day, and also which is NEVER when you boot to the BIOS.

2. I have two monitors plugged in. One uses the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 via an HDMI port and the other monitor uses an onboard HDMI port. During the day +/- five times, the monitors will shut off and the display will move to only one monitor. This also happened when I had both monitors plugged into the RTX 2070. I'd hoped that by plugging one into the card and one into the motherboard this would stop but it hasn't.

3. After the memory upgrade, and before (and after) the CPU upgrade, I get 2+ daily BSODs with the stopcode: KERNEL_HEAP_MODE_CORRUPTION. I've been working on this issue for over a week with no resolution even though I'm following numerous guides online about software removal, video card driver updates and rollbacks, etc.

4. This is a KILLER (and I love ASUS -- but I'm getting tired of ASUS issues). We have gigabit internet, and with my previous PC ( a big bada boom Origin PC) I would get 800+ MBPS on average. After beginning to use this ASUS ROG Strix with a "2.5gb" network connection and Wi-Fi 6 (whatever), I never got over 300 MBPS. I contacted my ISP and they identified damage to our line outside from the box to the house, that a signal was getting into the line. They ran new line from the box to our house and then new line into the house. No improvement at this computer even though the tech showed me him getting 980 MBPS from our modem (Netgear CM1000), and from our router (Netgear Nighthawk) --both gigabit equipment. Our ISP requires a DOCSIS 3.0 32x8 to get gigabit internet so we bought an ASUS CM-32_AC2600 Modem Router (which removes one device from the loop by combining the modem and router. My work Macbook Pro gets 291 MBPS on 2.6 wifi. This ASUS, WIRED cannot get over 40 MBPS, and it is worse if I use the wifi 6 that is supposed to be so great. It isn't. I've tried changing ethernet speed from Auto duplex to 1 gig and even 2.5 gig with no change. I added a 1 gig ethernet card and it gets even worse connectivity--so there is an issue with this board. I'm replacing this board with an ASUS Maximus and hope it is better.

UPDATE ON PERFORMANCE vs. PREVIOUS ROCKSTAR ORIGIN PC:

My previous Origin PC beat this PC in reliability hands down. Origin knew what they were doing when they built my previous machine. Of course I don't have their skill set but by putting together compatible components as I did with my above build it should have worked. Nothing I did was bleeding edge but everything is behaving like it is bleeding edge. I love how fast and great this ASUS Z490G runs now as a 128 GB memory, i9-10900, RTX 2070 PC on Windows 10 Pro, but the UNreliability of this makes this experience way less than great whether I'm working or getting my a-- handed to me in COD before it BSODs mid-game at night or BSODs mid-day at work.

I'm considering returning this board for a diff LGA 1200 that is more reliable and will take all my components.

I love ASUS motherboards and their amazing BIOS capabilities.

ASUS ROG Strix Z490-G Gaming (WiFi 6) Z490 LGA 1200 (Intel 10th Gen) SFF Micro ATX Gaming Motherboard is a very powerful motherboard right now, at a superb price, and it is loaded with features.

The ASUS ROG Strix Z490-G Motherboard fits perfectly inside the Thermaltake Core V21 SPCC Micro ATX Cube Computer Chassis like they were designed on the same machine and built next to each other in the same factory. EVERYTHING FITS PERFECTLY: Screws, I/O panel, everything.

After decades of building PCs I fully expected to be disappointed with the fit of the MB on the risers/offsets (lining up with mounting holes for screws), and I really was expecting the I/O panel in the back would not line up and would be the wrong size by a mm here and an mm there. Wrong. They fit like they were made for each other.

Bravo ASUS and bravo Thermaltake.

If you're into aesthetics this thing is beautiful in real life. When I opened the box, took off the static bag, and set it on my desk I was in awe. My other PC is based on an ASUS Rampage V Extreme and it is very nice, but this ASUS ROG Strix Z490-G is like a supermodel.

This is being built with a 1TB NVMe SSD for the OS, RAID HDDs for data, 64GB Corsair DDR4 memory kit, Intel Core i5-10400 CPU, a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 Windforce 8G Graphics Card, and an 850w Gold Thermaltake PSU. This gives me the most power for the memory for the money now (I'll always take more memory and a smaller CPU). Later I can upgrade the CPU to i9 or the memory 128GB.

If I remember to, I'll come back later with notes on performance.

I can't wait to compare this to my other PC. it's an OriginPC with ASUS Rampage V Extreme, 80GB memory, Nvidia GTX GeForce 980Ti 6GB, Intel Core i7 5820K Hex-Core 3.3GHz, 512GB Samsung 850 Pro Series SSD for OS.

I normally have annoying 1st boot problems with new boards/chips and this build was more complex than my usual aio cooling ones. This board took the abuse of adding the watercooling parts (twisting and pushing things in to fit) and booted on the first try like a champ. Double ARGB headers were a lifesaver for my unicorn party with fans, watercooling fittings and cables running flawlessly with aura sync. Highly recommended!

Mid-range mATX z490 boards are very slim, basically coming down to this and the MSI. I chose the Asus for it's superior power delivery and I'm happy I did.

It looks great, functions flawlessly, is full featured, the bios is simple and straightforward, and is extremely stable, even when overclocked.

Fresh new build and out of the box a bad memory slot. Caused game crashing and flickering random black screen. Also noticed a higher temp on the cpu that didnt seem normal. I went to microcenter and popped an gigabyte arorus board in and everything runs perfect. Oc 3600 xmp2 stable. Cpu at 27c and no more crashes. Asus just isn't what they were. Disappointing

I really like it since it got everything that I was looking for in a micro ATX form factor. I didn't want to go with the regular size since I didn't want a big case. This mobo filled the bill! Pretty happy with my purchase! Also the BIOS is super easy to access and configure your setting. Overclocking is a breeze as well.

Asus engineering here shines bright, as mATX continues to fall out of favor there are fewer full featured boards at this form factor available. This was basically it for a board that supported 2 full 16x slots and a bonus 1x slot, 4 sticks of RAM and current generation processors. The board doesn't officially support PCIe gen4 but when intel releases the next generation of chips maybe it will get a check speed bump even if not all the way up to gen4 speeds, but chances are if you need to build a computer today and your considering Intel, gen4 support is probably not important, or you would be buying an AMD board.

I have a Corsair crystal mATX case i modified to fit a full custom water loop solution in with a GTX 1080ti in it, there was no way i was walking away from all that work and this board has everything you could ask for in it. Gen4 support is not important, my old asus board died after 8 years so I'm looking forward to having this in service for 5-8 years as well.

This is an awesome micro atx Mobo, I bought a huge noctua heat sync that technically fits, but either blocks the ram or top pcie slot depending on orientation.

Love the rgb headers and included wifi antenna.

I have had great experience with this motherboard, what is there to say. It gives you what you need in a modern high tier gaming world. But since the GPU's that are being created as of late continue to get bigger, I came across a lot of unnecessary obstructions protruding from the motherboard that could potentially effect the buyers choice after dealing with this 1 particular issue. It is the RGB block that lights up on the left hand side of the board, and the pointy end of it goes all the way down right above where the GPU slot is. I currently put a 1660 Super in the slot, and I had to snug the back plate against the pointy end of the block just to fit it in fully, which scratched the backplate pretty badly, and I was careful.

As of right now I managed to snag a 3060 Ti and I am hoping that it will be able to fit in the motherboard without any changes because these new GPU's are quite big and long.

OC great, many options to optimize. I will not return to Asus products anymore, it’s same as too many products I tried, they are not stable. This Motherboard randomly freeze RGB, randomly slow or get errors while keep running long time.

This motherboard is EXACTLY what I needed to build a new immersion cooled 10th gen gaming computer.

Not finished yet but it is up and running and is very impressive even with the CPU I put in while I wait for the 10900k that's on back-order.

Even WiFi installed properly along with a fresh copy of Windows. My only *minor* complaint about this board is it is hard to screw down the upper left of the board behind the I/O panel. There's very little room there. I managed to finagle in a screw eventually, but this was just me being fussy since I could have easily left it resting on this post without being screwed in in that spot. The bios flashed effortlessly and the upgrade was definitely worthwhile as it added lots of features.

First pc build. Easy to put together. Everything works for gaming.

Since it is a MATX one, so be sure to know the hardware dimension before you purchase them.

Fit in my old Aurora R4 case with little hassle, I love this board!

Pros: Good BIOS options and customizability, sturdy design, RGB, good number of features.

Cons: Large Heatsinks may block PCIE slot or RAM slot (Noctua NH-D15S fits has to go in sideways to case airflow). RAM was not stable with XMP profile at 3200 Mhz after a BIOS update, but was stable on the BIOS the board shipped with.

God board, no real issues with it. Would like to upgrade to 11th gen intel, but bios update hasn’t been released for this board. Board cannot use 11th gen intel cpu at this time. Asus does not know when the bios update will be available.

Make sure you order a screws for the M.2 slots. This was not included nor does Asus intend to.

This is a great overall micro atx motherboard . This motherboard has lots of great specifications. I had to use the installation cd just to install the correct drivers( to get the Ethernet ports to work ). This motherboard has quite a few clearance issues so please be weary of that . I’m using a RTX 2060 Super Founders Edition. Installation was super tight , and I had to use some force to make it fit . The ram is also resting completely on the graphics card .(Heat) . If you do some research , and confirm figment , I would highly recommend this enthusiast motherboard . Many USB ports on rear I/o. I reached out to ASUS regarding a question I had and customer service emailed me back in about a week .

This motherboard seems promising and if your any person out there I would recommend getting Asus Rog branded gaming pc parts because they are not only good looking, they are trustworthy products which will last you a good amount of time and I am saying this because I have other Asus branded electronics and they have lasted quite a bit of time and still are working properly. This motherboard is really epic and the design is really nice and stunning and the RGB is really cool.
