I bought a new iPhone 5S from Apple in April 2014 to replace my iPhone 4 and while a few things impressed me, several of the most important things you'd expect to do took a step backwards. As I compare the two, note that both the iPhone 4 and 5S were running on the same carrier with the same plan.
Pros:
- Lots of memory
- Quick processor (when it didn't lock up)
- Great camera
- Lightweight
- The fingerprint sensor is a godsend if you need to have a "strong" password, and it works very well
Cons:
- Poor phone reception -- no phone service on the first floor of my house (my iPhone 4 gets two bars/dots and doesn't drop calls when I step in the house)
- Bad 2G (Edge network) reception -- despite having a connection it can't get mail, connect to servers, etc (again, my iPhone 4 would connect in the same places without problems, albeit slowly)
- Phone pauses/locks up in some apps (email and iMessage were notable since they're apps that come with the phone) and the home button needs to be pushed repeatedly to escape
- The battery life is no better than my now 2+ yr old iPhone 4
In the end the iPhone 5S went back because it wasn't worth taking a step backwards in cell and data coverage combined with a steep price tag. I was very disappointed.

I recently bought this phone from a seller named benjj, brand new phone, good condition. I thought it was locked, he assisted me and turn out it's unlocked, thinks for great customer service and support. I just set it up and enjoying the phone. I'm using it in Angola by the way, installed whatsapp and facebook messenger

Don't waste your money on this phone. I bought this phone a month ago and I kept getting this blue screen, then it reboots itself over and over again. Doesn't work well with T-Mobile like it said, I tried sending it back but they won't take it back. One month into my iPhone and I'm now looking to buy another phone.

I wasn't planning to buy this phone but life happened and I had to switch cell providers. I wanted the 5 (nice discount and I like the look of the black metal rather than the colored plastic of the 5c) but they were sold out. The store I was at happened to have 1 black (space grey) 16g left so I decided to go for it.
I was upgrading from the 4s which I still think is a great phone. The 4g/LTE capabilities of the 5s are really great, the larger screen is also really great, but other than that the extras that are 5s exclusive are more of a gimmick at this point. The fingerprint sensor is a nice touch but not a necessity as your phone could still get hijacked. It does work pretty well and I like that you can program up to 5 fingerprints (I have thumb and index for both hands programmed on mine as well as the 4 digit pin) the camera is definitely better in low light, but I don't know of the dual flash actually makes a difference for me that is noticeable. The slow motion video camera is fun but I wish you could do more than one section in slow mo (can decide which section is slow mo but can't split it up. You also can't post slow mo to Instagram which is what I use video for mostly. Haven't tried with vine)
I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a nice phone and definitely a notable upgrade from the 4s, but I would've definitely rather had more space on the 5 for the same price or waited for the 6 (supposedly going to have a larger screen.) But if you're an apple fan and due for an upgrade it is a really nice device and you'll probably be happy. I wouldn't upgrade from a 5 though. The biggest thing I care about is this phone has the dependability I have come to expect from Apple (the main reason I switched back to iphone from the buggy android incarnations I was experiencing a couple years ago) and of course the resale value is higher with apple devices later on. So overall it is a good phone and I'm happy with it, but the exclusive upgrades may or may not be worth it depending on what you're looking for.

I purchased this item. In less than one year, the item stop working. The company requested me the send it to them and they confirmed that they will send a brand new device. They sent back the same old device which does not work. I do not think they are a reputable company.

Good evening! the day of December 18th I made a purchase of an iphone 5s gold color, the order number is 115-7803739-9905008. This iPhone was supposed to be delivered in its sealed brand new box instead of that we received the package incomplete, it was without its charger and headphones, I wish I could clear this matter as soon as possible because I made a payment for a brand new phone with all accessories that comes include with it. I am not satisfy with my purchase and I expect a prompt and satisfactory answer. Best Regards

I've had about three Android phones in the past and after my last one died I was at a point where I didn't want to deal with the varied experiences, error dialog boxes and the such anymore. I almost went with a high-grade Android device but decided to mix things up and try an iPhone.
There's really not much I can say aside i'm very satisfied. It's an iPhone so it's pretty much known to be the "standard" Smartphone. Performance is fast and reliable. The touch ID works like a charm. You can program several fingerprints so access can be done with both hands and several fingers.The audio quality is good and screen clarity and brightness is vivid. iOS 7 to me looks fresh and clean compared to earlier iOS's and standard Android versions. The build quality is spotless and everything always works. Sure there are many software limitations compared to Androids capabilities but to me, it's worth the stability and a sacrifice i'm willing to make.
The only real downside is battery life. If you're very active in using your phone like me, you'll need to carry a charge cable with you as the battery will drain in mere hours. Of course it's not impossible to get half a day or longer with light use. you'll just have to play with the settings.
My last opinion, you might want to opt for the 32 or 64GB. 16 will work but internal storage fills up fast with photos, videos, apps etc, plus think about future iOS versions (8,9) which may consume more space as you upgrade over time.

One of the main reasons I ever purchased an iPhone over Android is the battery life. I use my phone quite often and with many Android running phones my battery life was maybe 4 hours. I have had an iPhone 4 and now have a 5 since I washed my previous one. I love it. Apps run smooth, battery lasts about 24 hours with extensive use. My girlfriend has one as well but does not use it as much and it will stay charged for days.

I was so very excited to get my new iPhone 5S in gold. I had to wait as it was on back order. My excitement turned to frustration within a day and I had the phone returned within 3 days. This new phone would NOT recognize my finger touch. I would have to try over and over--sometimes twenty times to get the phone to respond. Sometimes, even then, it would not. I contacted Verizon, my cell provider and was told my hands were too cold for the screen to respond. I was told to purchase special gloves with something in the finger tips or a stylus as large around as a marker and as long as the phone to use for everything on the screen. I was told there was no case available to store the phone and stylus, so I was to try to keep them together or not be able to use my phone. Alternately, I could wear special gloves, day and night. I am older. I do have chronically cold hands (inside and out) and live in a currently cold upper Midwest state. I had my spouse try the phone, with somewhat better results, but never on the first try. My son tried it, he had better results, but not perfect. I was told by Verizon, it was me, not the phone and many people with cold hands had trouble with smartphones. The fingerprint reader did not usually work either (maybe 1 time out of 10), even though it said my print was captured and I put in 4 different finger prints. I was told by Verizon that no smartphone would work for me. There was nothing wrong with the phone. There was no other solution. I should just use a flip phone. I made a call to Apple after the phone was returned. They said they never heard of the cold hand touch screen response problem. I am so disappointed and upset that there seems to be no solution. Otherwise, I think this phone was pretty and might have had some nice features. But, if I can't make a simple phone call in an emergency--what good is anything else? Any ideas folks? Thanks!

This is a great phone. I did not want an iPhone 6, so I chose the 5S. My only complaint
is (and the only reason why I did not give it 5 stars) is that the battery is short lived. To me
that is annoying especially when I have not used it that much and the battery is down to
75 or 80%. So I have to charge it frequently. If anyone has a hint for me to increase
battery life, I'd love to hear it.

It is the worst phone. worked for couple of month and stopped. the seller stated the phone was new when it wasn't. I took phone to apple store they stated the phone has no warranty and could not fix for free. I paid over $700 as is and did not want to pay more to fix. .

The phone overall works fine, but I Just didn't like that it came with headphones and not a charger. The screen was really dirty when I opened the box too. I just say never take a picture of stuff that isn't going to be included. False advertising!!

My mum really loves, the phone. It was described by the seller as brand new and it really was. The phone works great and this phone is so much better than the iPhone 5. While my mum loves iPhone, I neither hate them but nor like them but this is great for users that want to pick up a phone and access anything. The features are great such as siri, easy sych to your icloud and more. Worth the money.

I just love the phone❤️❤️❤️❤️ came in 3 days with expedited shipping😃 it works fast and it definitely come unlocked because I put in an activated SIM card from net 10 and it worked perfectly fine with no problems and sold by the best seller Next Gen Wireless

exactly what I was looking for with a screen in top notch condition. Few minor marks around edge but nothing that is seen with a case on it. Very clean everywhere. With the case on it would be hard to tell that it was even a used/not new phone.

It was a nice and brand new phone but it wasn't factory unlocked so I had a hard time getting it to work. I had to call 3 different companies and none could provide me with an unlock code so I had to make the decision to send this phone back and settle for a different phone that is unlocked.

This phone has not worked well at all. I have been on the phone with Apple support for hours, and I am taking it into my service provider tomorrow to remove all of my information so I can return it. I will not be being another phone from amazon.com

It was in relatively in good conditions when I got the phone, then of course I had bought a used version of good quality... I bought it for a friend and he tells me the iphone is still running well and working for him... still I would recommend reading the product description.

BE careful when buying an used phone. The iPhone looked perfectly fine on the exterior. But first of all, the phone was not GSM unlocked. I paid $60 for a local phone store to have it unlocked. The next day, I woke up to a phone with zero charge even though it had been fully charged and left alone for the night. No matter how much I charged the battery, it drained extraordinarily fast. I have since returned the phone so that it can be sold again. In total, I lost $106.89 from the transaction.

This phone was a promised by the seller. I actually thought I had an issue with the phone and the seller went over the top to help me. The most amazing seller I have ever dealt with. As far as the phone, my daughter LOVES it!

I have not even had this phone for a month and now the home button does not work!! Have not dropped it I don't know why it just stopped working from one day to the next very disappointed!! Also the screen on the side looks like it is about to pop out any minute!!

Quality of the phone is superb, get what you payed for. Package came on time. Only reason 4 star is because the ear-peace speaker doesn't really work, have hard time listening (but i don't use phone for calls much so it's no biggy) and speaker on left side also not work. But the rest is perfect. Thanks!
