My wife got this for me for my birthday. Plugged it into my windows 7 laptop, and it took a few minutes (windows update must have been slow) but it worked without me having to do anything other than just plug it in. Worked right out of the box. It is light, so it is easy to move around, it runs entirely off the USB connection, which is great for cable management, a bummer for laptop battery runtime, but great that it's even possible to run entirely from the laptop battery. Running full screen video seems to take all the CPU time, so if I have a full screen video running on this monitor, while browsing the web on the laptop's built-in screen, the web browser gets pretty slow and the video gets choppy. I think it must use the CPU to compress the screen updates to go across the wire to the screen. On my quad-core Core i7 machine, full motion video never slows down, I assume because the Core i7 has the power to keep up. Excellent monitor, definitely recommend.

I was almost scared off from trying this monitor from the review about the person who ordered 12 and his employees had problems, broke four. I am glad I tried it. Yes,it is not easy to connect the plug due to location, but is not difficult, and if youare careful, no problem.Follow the directions. Plug it in and then turn on the laptop. Of course, it works betterplugged into electricity than battery, but two connections make it better. Quality wasgreat with direct electricity. Also not configuring, as I pivot it, and the devicewill correct if you make horizontal. Easy. Also when you go to it from the laptop,here's a tip, open the full fully and it is lays out beautifully---better than whenyou just bring it over.Screen was bright, fonts easy to read, and it sure helps out in doing lists, research,writing. I have a larger carrying case as have a 17 inch four year old Dell, whichis heavy, and had no problem also including the screen with the sleeve. Both weresecured. In traveling, never had been asked to bring it out, too.Great monitor. Great price at Amazon with free shipping, too. Recommend it highly. Love toshop at Amazon, and have returned things didn't like---easy.

I've wanted a product like this to exist for more than a decade. I imagined a device like a Palm Pilot or maybe a little bigger that could connect to a computer to display low-priority or infrequently-changing information without taking up the "expensive" real estate of my main monitors.That's pretty much what this device (and its class of devices) is, and if you approach it from that angle, you will be very pleased.First off, and I'm sure others have said this, but take it seriously: DO NOT BUY THIS MONITOR FOR VIDEO, GAMES, OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT REQUIRES A LOT OF ON-SCREEN MOTION.Basically, as long as you do not have a lot of the picture on the screen changing at any one time, it behaves like almost any monitor, but when a significant amount of the picture changes, you will lose frame rate and the image will be corrupted until it stabilizes.With that out of the way:PROS:* Great for displaying web pages and documentation off of my laptop-- reference material I would otherwise want to print out.* The picture is very crisp and the colors are vibrant.* If expectations are right, price is a bargain.* Supporting portrait and landscape makes it very flexible.* If you've used multiple monitor setups in Windows before, this is just another monitor as far as Windows is concerned.CONS:* Form factor is oddly shaped (it's not flat in the back) and size of screen v. resolution is less than ideal (I would have preferred a smaller screen with the same resolution).* Has needed two USB ports each place I've used it (though it claims it may only need both on older laptops).* USB connection to monitor is in an awkward location under the kickstand-- a little tricky to plug in and can't be plugged in with the kickstand closed.* In portrait mode, monitor is a little unstable on its kickstand.

Standard plug-n-install-driver-n-play setup with Windows 7.Does NOT work easily with Linux (I understand there are drivers available but have no desire to go down that path trying to get them to work - apparently you need to actually write your own software that uses those [alpha] drivers), but hey - with some flavour of a VM player running under Win7 I get the best of both worlds. I can even have Linux on one screen and Windows on the other... and if I choose to control that PC with my Linux box I have three screens on two machines, all using the same keyboard and mouse (I highly recommend you Google Synergy for a FREE software KVM that's cross-OS compatible :-) ).The screen is about the same size as my laptop's, so that's two similarly-sized screens, so worries, great productivity boost, especially when working from home on my corporate laptop... add an external monitor to the VGA port and it feels like I'm in air traffic control... generally, though, I use it for my "mixing desk" in my DAW so that the other screen is totally free for tracking and arranging.Minor gripes... the USB cable connects *under* the built-in stand, so you can't collapse down the stand without unplugging the cable... and it's the tiny end of a USB cable which means a small connector, in a dark and tight spot... and my eyes aren't what they used to be... this makes me loathe to move this thing around once installed and just leave it dedicated to one computer. I'm even less inclined to pack it up when travelling for the same reason; a connector oft-used is a connector more likely to break, after all.Still, at this price it wouldn't be too out of the question to get another for another purpose elsewhere in the house. It also has no protection for the screen, but neither do any of my "normal" monitors.My house is Apple-free so I can't comment there.Overall highly recommended, especially for laptop users on Windows.

Earlier this year, I came across the 16 inch version of AOC USB powered LCD monitor and purchased it. I was a little skeptical about whether it will deliver its promise, but was pleasantly surprised by its performance and ease of use. Then I learned about the 22" version being scheduled to be released in Feb 2012, and decided to return the 16" one and wait for the 22". The release was delayed for 3 months and finally it came to Amazon in May and I purchased it right away. To sum up, I'm glad I waited. The extra 6" makes a whole lot of difference and I just love the large screen. Here is my summary of pros and cons.Pros1. No power adapter or video cable necessary (which is a HUGE PLUS)2. Very light weight (light enough to carry it with one hand)Cons (I list 3 cons, but really only care about the 1st one)1. Takes up 2 USB ports (on my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop)for sufficient power supply ... Because my laptop only has 3 built-in USB ports, I had to buy a USB hub to share the 3rd USB port for my keyboard and mouse.2. Installation took trial and error on some machines due to Display Link driver issues. (Had better results on Windows XP machines than Windows 7 machines, thought eventually I was able to get it to work on both.)3. No (easy) way of rotating the monitor to switch between landscape and portrait ..... This is possible with the 16 inch version. I guess it can't be implemented easily on the 22" monitor, because of the bigger screen size.I hope some of you find this review helpful. Thanks for reading.

Purchased from Groupon, still trying to return it. Some of these are already mentioed, but here are the issues:1. Cheaply made, plastic was making cracking noises on the way out of the box.2. Unusually thick for how hollow it seemd. It is marketed as portable, but it is thicker than my 5 year old laptop3. Strange dimensions (either very tall and skinny, or short and fat)4. Driver had to be installed 4 times before I could get it to work5. Short USB, with moronic placement, and it only worked in certain USB ports on my PC, which I have confirmed to be working properly.6. After finally getting it on, it didn't work. Whenever I moved anything to that screen, even my mouse cursor, it would freeze and crash, causing my main monitor to flash. And I mean EVERY TIME. So mine is actually useless.7. When turned on, it made this extremely annoying, high-pitched noise. And this was the only indicator that it was on.All in all, the only thing the functioned properly, was the disc, which promptly displayed annoying advertisements after it is put into the disc drive.(This is on a high-powered PC running windows 7)

I purchased this monitor after it was highly recommended by a co-worker; unfortunately, I was very disappointed when I received the monitor and got it out of the box. The monitor USB port on the back was damaged! I also noticed that the USB cable had 2 connectors for the laptop, NOWHERE in the product details it mentions that it MIGHT need to use 2 USB ports in your laptop to work correctly.I strongly believe that this information should be included on the product details.This was my first return to Amazon ever! I was extremely happy with Amazon's return process.

I do a fair bit of telecommuting and road-warrior type work. I've used this product for a few weeks with a 2010 Macbook Pro and it's been a solid performer. Works especially well for putting reference materials, browser, mail client, etc on a second screen while coding on the main screen.Pros:- It's light. A bit bulky in appearance, but doesn't weigh down the bag.- It stows and unpacks easily with a single USB cord to connect.- The kickstand feels sturdy and it stows nicely into the back of the unit for packing.- The kickstand rotates for portrait or landscape mode.- The display automatically changes orientation when the kickstand is moved. (In Windows)- The display is bright and reasonably easy to read.- The display supports video acceleration under Windows, with modestly good performance (fullscreen/HD playback will stutter, but small playback windows work reasonably well).- Device was automatically detected and supported under Windows 7 (reboot required)Cons:- The USB connection is located inside one edge of the kickstand well. A bit fiddly to connect until you get the hang of it.- The small vertical resolution is a bit cramped when reading documents in portrait mode.- I couldn't get automatic display rotation to work in OSX Snow Leopard. The drivers don't seem to support this.- The display has a rather narrow field of view in the vertical plane. Probably something to be expected from such a high efficiency panel, but can be bothersome when reading documents in portrait mode.- Brightness and contrast cannot be adjusted. As others have mentioned, "it is what it is".- OSX drivers do not support color profile calibration.- Video acceleration does not seem to work under OSX, but still plenty fast for browsing and reading documents.- No case. A lined slip-cover would be ideal for this product, as it is designed to be highly portable!Overall I consider the product to be worth the ~$130USD price, it's got a permanent place in my daily kit.

I have had this item for about 5 months, and I use it everyday. I too carry this in my bag, and I have had no problems with it breaking. I do see that it is delicate, but I am one who takes care of my equipment. If you are a person who puts you equipment thru rough events, then by all means carry around a full size monitor, and see how annoying that is.I bought a "SANOXY 17" Widescreen Laptop Notebook Sleeve Soft Case" with the purchase of the monitor, and they go very well together.I use it most as a document monitor, but i also carry it with me to all job sites as a light portable monitor so that I can access down servers at customer sites.I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

Having an extra display makes me so much more productive when I work so having a portable display that was bus-powered and didn't tie up my video out port seemed great. When I do presentations, I like to mirror my presentation on one display and look at speaker notes on the other. This would have made it possible. The problem is that, even though it is sold as a portable display, it is too fragile to be useful. Mine arrived with the screen already broken and I suspect that, without a rigid cover for the display (not provided), carrying this display in my laptop bag would have been too much for it. The other problem I have with this display is it is too thick to easily fit in my laptop bag with my laptop so it would increase the chance of breakage if I were squeezing it in. Fortunately, I was able to return my unit for a refund (waiting for that to be confirmed but I think it will be okay). In the meantime, I'm going to keep looking. Ideally, I would like to find a display that matches the resolution of my laptop and projector (1920x1080) and is much thinner than this one.

I noticed many people complained about being unable to adjust the brightness of the screen. Well, I found the solution:Just google "Monitor Brightness Reducer", and download it from CNET, unzip the software and drag the exe file to the second screen, click on it and choose the percentage of blackness you wanna add to the screen, which reduces the brightness. I actually came across the solution from one of the earlier reviews. Just repost it here so everybody can see it.BTW, great product. I was worried about the "hum" many people complained about and hesitated for a few days before taking the plunge. After receiving it, there's no problem at all. One of the best purchases I ever made. Very happy about it.

We've only had these monitors a couple days, so can't speak to durability.The company I work for uses USB monitors for use when in the field at a client's office. In the office we use full size 24" monitors. Some staff have taken to using their mobile monitors as 3rd monitors when in the office. We previously purchased monitors from competitors such as Toshiba and Mobile Monitor.As far as this monitor is concerned, it is nice to have a monitor that works with no power supply required. Resolution is good for its price. Brightness is good compared to our other mobile monitors. Glossy screen is ok. Price was great! Half the cost of nearest competitor.That being said, we did have to purchase some notebook sleeves to protect these when transporting to client locations. USB cable connects behind the fold out stand leg and is a little hard to get to. Glossy surface of screen and case shows all finger prints. Monitor was wrapped in plastic all over (to keep glossy surface in good shape) and takes a few minutes to remove all of it.All in all, we would definitely purchase these again for the price. Only time will tell on the durability.

I just received my AOC 22" monitor. The product works as advertised entirely off the USB, no power cable required. The box doesn't even include a power adapter. The monitor appears to use around 10 watts, but it seems to vary depending on how much rendering is being performed upto as high as 20 watts. The supplied USB daisy-chain cable takes up 2 USB ports on your computer, which is required to supply that much power. The product mentions its possible to run with only a single USB connector, but I doubt thats possible since USB2 provides a maximum of 9 watts, significantly below the 20 watts I've measured.My video driver doesn't even detect the monitor, so I assume all video rendering is being performed by the CPU rather than the video hardware. My CPU is often spiked to near 100% while using the monitor. Since the monitor is being rendered without your video hardware, low end or older computers may experience choppy video.Perhaps my biggest complaint is that the monitor provides no mounting holes whatsoever. So if you have mounting hardware, you are out of luck. I'm planning to improvise with either 2-sided tape or lots of velcro.Overall, I'm satisfied with the quality although its not quite as amazing as I was hoping it would be due to the lack of hardware optimized video and mounting points.

I have just received the monitor. First impressions: from Amazon packaged in double box, arrived unscathed. Worked right out of the box, just connect and Win 7 will find the drivers. There is a CD with drivers included, if you need auto-rotate functionality. I do not so I did not bother: you can rotate manually in Display Link manager. Portrait mode is very slim/narrow and you need to sit right in front of it as the viewing angle in this basic TN panel is quite narrow. No brightness adjustment: it "bites" my eyes. The USB connection sit in the stand well - not a good solution if you wanted to toy with some self-improvised hanging-on-the-wall solution (no VESA). It will need a sleeve for transportation.Overall: for all its marked shortcomings this usb monitor seems to fit what I was looking for - at this price range. Yes, you can get Lenovo, which is reportedly the best out of the three usb monitors currently available (brightness can be regulated in Lenovo) but at [for me significantly higher price] and w/o Amazon prime shipping.After 30 days: I was thinking of returning it. It is not a completely "portable solution" since it drains down my laptop battery within one hour or less (unadjustable brightness all over again). How much work is that? For longer periods you need to be "tethered" with a power-cord for your notebook. If one power-cord why not two of them? A regular monitor would not have the "blur lag" (when you move the text is first displayed blurred before it sharpens), which is a nuisance. I kept it but if I were to make my decision again it would have been Lenovo Thinkvision LT1421 Wide 1452DS6despite its mark up.I hope AOL listens: you avoided a return [and return costs] by a narrow margin. Please work on1. BRIGHTNESS ADJUSTMENT 2. POWER DRAIN 3.CORD PLACEMENT 4. COVER. 5 ADD VESA MOUNT SCREWS for broader ranges of use at no cost to you.

I have used my monitor almost daily since it arrived. It is light weight and provides a great image adding to the utility of my laptop.I use my laptop exclusively and have docking and dual monitors at office and home, so having this portable monitor allows the same productivity while traveling or working from the local coffee shop.

This thing is very cool. Very nice resolution for such a tiny portable monitor. The only drawbacks are the little buzz/hiss sound (sounds like a LCD tv, if you listen closely) and the location of where you plug in the USB cable to the monitor itself. It takes a few tries to get it down right but nothing to be fussing about.For $100 and the competition out there, I'd buy this again and again. For the people saying it breaks easily, how exactly are you carrying around an item that has glass as almost half of its surface area..? Be careful duh.

I multi task a lot at work and I use a larger desktop monitor as a secondary one to my laptop. I needed a portable monitor for cases where I had to move desks. This monitor is LARGE and lightweight. Very portable. The clarity is awesome. Although the screen is glossy, the glare is minimal. However, that does depend on the setting your working in. Office space, perfect. Out on the beach with a corona under the coconut tree (ALOHA!), not too good.I LOVE this monitor and it's money well spent!

I bought this to be an extra monitor for my Alienware M14x (current generation, running Windows 7 with all updates). I noticed there was a problem immediately because when I connected the monitor to the laptop and it started emitting a very loud, high frequency, sound. The sound was not in any pattern, just constantly there. The monitor continuously flickered and was not able to keep the picture (blacking out, etc.), even with both USB ports plugged in and even if that picture was just my desktop background.As an aside, I noticed that after I installed the monitor driver I was not able to run all of my games in fullscreen mode properly (such as Diablo). I changed some settings but the games were still lagging. I am still troubleshooting the problem 2 weeks later. Definitely a poor investment :(

I purchased this in August 2012 - and after about a month of usage it started flickering and making humming noise. For a long time I just abandoned it. I'm again using it for last couple of day's and the noise is just driving me crazy. I have opened a ticket with AOC support - will update the review based on the support I receive.

Man, am I ever impressed. What a fantastic idea! And, the software works wonders; all sorts of options for using the monitor in conjunction with or in place of your internal screen. And, should you have the good fortune to own an Intel 2go pc with no external VGA port, this is a blessing. Just as soon as I can swing it I want more of these. So, please AOC, do not discontinue this. It is sooooo cool!

This monitor is made very cheap. I agree with other complaints that the USB port is in a most inconvenient location; underneath the stand. The USB port became extremely loose very quickly resulting in my screen flickering. My company has also ordered these monitors and I know it to be a common problem. With my own monitor, not 4 months later did the screen break. I did not do anything to cause this, such as drop the monitor, yet when I turned it on one day, it did not work. When I called the warranty department I was not able to get a hold of anyone; it went to someone's voicemail instead of trying to connect me with whoever was available. I went through the cumbersome process to return to warranty just for them to deny my request. This monitor is not worth the money as it will break shortly after purchasing and you will not get your money back!

I almost went with the Lenova screen when I read all the bad reviews about the AOC, but I couldn't be happier with the AOC. It is light, fits in my laptop bag, and runs for a long time off the batter on my laptop, so it makes me way more productive both at home and on the road. It is very sharp, and the cool thing is it rotates so you can view your screen portrait! Great for working through OUtlook emails.

First, the most important part: it DOES NOT include linux drivers. I could not get it to work on Ubuntu 12.04 or Crunchbang "Statler". This sis simply unacceptable, it needs to include these drivers or at least have some documentation on how to get it setup with 3rd party solutions.Second, the USB place ment is horrible- as stated in other reviews. But it isnt unbearable... just a minor inconvenience.Third, there is a constant hum from the monitor- again, not horrible, because I use headphones all day... But still anooying.Fourth, it has not brighness adjust feature.Overall I find these are easily solved design flaws, except for the linux support.

Simple to setup, just a USB connection to your laptop, no power adapter. Very light, the screen resolution is great, and the screen is large. I used to using 2 monitors for work so when I travel I was lacking that functionality. The AOC solved that challenge.

I had to return this monitor twice. the USB plug to the monitor back was loose and intermittent failure. Policy is to not replace a second time and charge a restocking fee. The monitor itself works but is old fashoned. Anyone who has seen a tablet will be dissapointed with how thick and bulky it is. It is NOT plug and play. Only if you are comfortable installing drivers manually; then, go for it.

HORRIBLE COLOR! White backgrounds are pink or sometimes blue, cursors have horrible shadows and double imaging. I installed and uninstalled this monitor over and over again and it just does not work. Very disappointing. DO NOT PURCHASE!!!!!

Due to issues with my Windows 7 installation, I couldn't get it to function on my laptop. Three of my coworkers tried (Lenovo T400, T410, & T420 units) had zero problems getting it to work. I engaged AOC support in an email chat and they were diligent in trying to get my issue resolved. I was favorably impressed with the way they stuck with me and responded rapidly. There were other USB issues with my Windows installation and it became clear that it wasn't the fault of the hardware or driver. After a Windows 7 reinstall, the unit worked great. Oddly, I'm no longer a customer. I sold the unit to one of my coworkers (had many people interested in it after seeing it) since I needed something more compact.As indicated by others, the USB plug in location could be positioned more conveniently. The picture quality was good and exceeded my needs. Switching from landscape to portrait display couldn't be any easier. Overall, this is a good unit but I purchased a refurbished Lenovo LT1421 since I needed something smaller to fit into my backpack. This unit fits as well, but I'm I was afraid it might be damaged since it was relatively a tight fit. If you're someone who needs to be able to frequently switch between portrait and landscape modes, this unit is a good choice.

I do a lot of onsite work with clients but am so use to using multiple screens that I wanted to find a light weight portable second screen. This is just what I was looking for, excellent clear screen, light weight, folds neatly and can slip into a protective pouch, no power supply needed. I have just ordered another one.

Nothing is perfect.It's too bright for me to work in the dark.Nothing is impossible.I tried a free software called "dimmer" made by Nelson Pires to solve the problem. It worked.One trick is that you need to set the usb monitor as your main screen first, then use dimmer, and then switch it back.Hope this can help you solve the problem.place to download the ware:[...]

I've had this product for a year now, and I'm so impressed that I had to come here and review it. I travel a lot for my job and work from my laptop. This product allows me to have twice the screen area for just 1kg extra in weight. It makes me as productive on my laptop as I am on my desktop PC. It's perfect and so cheap that it's paid for itself many, many times over for me. It's lasted a year of travel so far and if it breaks I'll just buy another one. Often when people see me using it they ask where they can get one and can't believe how cheap it is (if you are using a 1000$ laptop why not double the screen area for 100$ extra??).

I have bought 4 of these and the first was great. It was silent, bright enough on a single USB plug connection, and just great as a *third* monitor. The next three all emit a high pitched whine that is completely intolerable. I only returned one because I put two into a server room where the ambient sound was loud enough that you couldn't hear the whine. The fourth and final one was meant for a room that is too quiet... the whine drives everyone nuts.So, 25% ratio of good to bad monitors earns a 2 star rating. I still need to get another USB monitor, but I will wait for a different vendor. I'm not going to keep buying and returning squealing monitors.

Got this monitor a few days ago at the $99 sale price. I think it is a very good option for a 3rd monitor, especially for laptops that can not display a 3rd monitor. The USB drivers installed quickly and easily, I am able to play full screen youtube with very little lag (I think a core 2 duo or above CPU is a must, as the video quality is highly CPU dependent). Overall quite happy with it. Observations:1. Brightness can not be adjusted - you have to take it the way it is, so far I am ok with the brightness2. Screen is quite glossy, make sure you do not display dark backgroud or you will see yourself.3. I LOVE the portrait adjustment - you can place it landscape or portrait, with portrait it fits easily into my crowded desk and is now my full-time outlook screen4. USB cord is a bit short - wish it is 1 ft longer to reach to the other side of my laptop5. Screen could flicker if your USB port does not supply sufficient power. I bought a powered USB hub and plug both ports in, issue solved6. Quite bulky for such a light display. You might not want to bring it out much7. Display angle is not so good - but after a couple of days you get used to it and it is not too bad.I plan to get the Lenovo 14" USB monitor as my travel monitor and keep the AOC as my permanent 3rd display. This is the best of both worlds arrangeemnt IMHO. Due to the lack of a hard cover and power drain, I will probably not use the AOC as a travel monitor.

I bought this so that I could view files from a server on one screen while typing or dictating a report on my tablet PC. Switching windows was slowing down my dictation speed. It works pretty well. I was a bit surprised however that it needed two USB connections to run without flickering. I guess my tablet PC does not supply that much power to its USB ports. This presented a space problem as I also needed to plug in a USB microphone and my tablet PC only has two USB ports. The solution was a powered USB hub. Works out OK. I had considered a tablet to view the files on but in terms of price this works out much better and the larger screen size is also a benefit. I really like the built in kick stand! The viewing angle is just fine for me. I also bought the bundle which also included a sleeve and a USB cable. The sleeve covers it well and it packs nicely with my tablet PC inside a soft sided briefcase. Never even opened the other cable. This screen is pretty good. The reviews were right on. Works great for general surfing but no well for video streaming. Still its good.Especially for the price and portability.

Driver software did not download and install from the disc. Then tried getting the driver from AOC website, Windows 7 specific, but that neither downloaded nor installed. Checked online to find a history of problems between this product and Windows 7. Would have been nice, but have to return it.

I travel constantly and needed a lightweight extra screen to take with me. This met the bill all the way around. It is light weight, great picture, seems sturdy.

The driver that is included with the monitor is for Windows. To use this product with a Mac you have to download a separate driver (Google: displaylink driver mac). It took me an hour of frustration before I found it.(see UPDATE below) The AOC is OK for documents, not for seriously working with images or graphics. I wanted it for dumping the panels onto when working with programs like Photoshop, freeing up my MacBook Pro (using Mountain Lion) to work with the graphics - for this it's perfect.The product itself is probably not worth $99, but for me having the extra real estate is.UPDATE: I ended up returning the unit because the screen had strange moire effects that were most pronounced on solid backgrounds. I replaced it with the Lenovo ThinkVision LT1421wD and it's been great. Lenovo ThinkVision LT1421 14" Widescreen LED Monitor A little more expensive but it has a non-glare screen, better quality graphics, and a hard cover that converts to a base. I see it's on Amazon now for $199, but I paid $165 a few weeks ago...

I'm a dba, my company gave me a useless 14inch laptop. This portable monitor is inexpensive and works great. Now I have dual screens wherever I go and three screens when I'm at the office. I don't mind the connecter in the back like others are whining about. thinking of trying the 22 inch. Just not sure how easy the base will be to carry in my laptop bag.

This monitor is not really good, at-least for me.There is no brightness adjustment and it is really effecting my eyes. In addition, this monitor does not come with case and need to buy one.Over all not really happy with this Monitor.

Being newly released I took the plunge and bought this without much information about it. I've had it for about 24 hours now and am happy with the purchase. I'm using this monitor with a current gen MacBook Air. I've found the following:- Color is a bit muted, comes around a bit after the monitor has been on for an hour or so- A breeze to configure on OS X Lion- Sometimes the Display Link connection gets a bit "busy" and movies displayed on screen will get a little bit choppy. This seems to occur when I have a bunch of windows open at the same time, and does not appear to be affected by system load. [I'm just using the default DisplayLink driver on the AOC disk and haven't experimented with anything else yet.]- Very nice to be able to just plug into a USB and have a 2nd screen on my MacBook- Very light and "portable." I'll be able to take to longer-term jobs and use as a 2nd monitor without having to lug something large and heavy along. 22" is not exactly portable in the true sense of the word though, the thing is very thin and light, but it's still 22" across.To summarize: A great product if you're in the market for something like this. If you're just in the market for a monitor, there's a number of better options out there, as this is truly a niche product in my opinion.

First batch I purchased is great but ever since I have been receiving monitors that buzz (annoyingly to the point of unusable)and I have to send them back. I am trying all sorts of cables, drivers and host pc's. The monitors are just plain bad. Shame, I want more but a giving up after three purchase attempts of poor quality.UPDATED - I called and received a firmware update that does appear to fix the buzz. It has been a long ugly road but that puts this back to a four star. If the new ones do indeed have a better usb plugin I would make it a five but mine are still the awkward old style.

Nice Display,But, if you are a road warrior ,like me, it won't last long. My display is all messed up and now I have to replace with a more expensive model with a built in hard case.

Very sweet little monitor! I use it for my laptop when travelling or on a job site, really helps with the productivity for programming. Read the instructions, follow them, and it works great. In the driver software there's a setting for "Optimize for video" and it makes all the difference if you decide to watch a movie or YouTube video on this monitor. Only downside is that it's a bit bulky, but it is still more portable than any other 16" monitor I have ever seen and fits in my backpack next to my laptop no problem. I'm recommending to all my colleagues.

This product is easy to use and install. When it's working, that is. The plug into the monitor is poorly placed and difficult to see. It's inside the leg so you are forced to use the device with the leg open. Once the drivers are installed, though, you just plug it in and it's recognized. For awhile. The first one lasted less than a month. I thought it was just that particluar monitor that was faulty so I requested a replacement, hassle-free from Amazon as usual. This one has lasted almost 5 months until I just gave up today. I have removed and re-installed, tried every conceivable USB port, messed with it for a couple of weeks, and it just won't come on. Same issue as the first one. I'm a very unhappy customer about this AOC product.

Already own the other AOC USB monitor (smaller 15 inch) which is great for when mobile, but this monitor is great for when sitting back on my recliner with either my Alienware 18 inch or Macbook Pro 15 Retina. Works seamless once either Windows or Mac driver downloaded. Good color and fast refresh.Great addition, but not a mobile monitor with the two piece stand - opt for the smaller USB model for mobile use.
