I wanted an additional monitor for business travel. I needed it to work on multiple MS Office documents at once as well as email. It had to be compact and lightweight because I don't check a bag when I travel. This monitor fits the bill perfectly. It will definitely make my life on the road easier and allow me to get work done faster. My business Lenovo X230 doesn't have a DVD drive, so I just went to the AOC site, found the product and downloaded the driver. After a minute for installation I plugged the monitor into a single USB port and it came on I configured it for the left side of my computer. When I rotated the screen it changed over very quickly and easily.I like the resolution and brightness of the screen. There's only one angle you can set to lean the monitor back but it was sufficient for work at a conference room table or hotel room desk.It is incredibly light and takes up as little space as I could hope for. On longer trips I will either have to check a bag or rethink my packing in order for it to fit in the carry on all the time. The product page suggested a sleeve for the monitor and it fits fine even though it's clearly not made for this specific product. If you're really concerned about the screen getting scratched during transit you'll need to rig up some other kind of cover. I put mine in the sleeve face down on clothes in the carry-on. But I can also slide it next to the laptop in my computer bag along with all my other stuff and it fits. When the screen is active I can view a spreadsheet next to a Word document or a PPT document and still have my email up on the main computer screen. If I'm just working in Word I can rotate the screen to portrait mode and see the whole page at a time. If I'm moving objects between PowerPoint files I can extend the PPT workspace across both screens, cascade the files and either drag and drop or copy very easily. The quality of the screen is comparable to the laptop screen although the resolution is not as high.

Ordinarily this thing would just be a horrible quality monitor. I'm not sure if I'd even give it two stars if it were just a normal monitor, but this thing not only has a built in DisplayLink chipset for USB video connection bit its also USB powered! This means that it will also run off of laptop battery power. For $100 that's not bad. The built in stand also handles portrait and landscape orientations. The thing is very very light and portable. The case might be a little bulkier than it needs to be since it feels hollow, but its not that thick and it fits in my backpack. I wish it had come with a sleeve or something, but I suspect a cheap minimalistic large laptop sleeve would work just fine.So that's the good stuff. Here's the bad: image quality. Compared to laptop displays in general, this one is more comparable to the lower quality displays on cheap laptops.-The viewing angle is horrible. You pretty much have to be looking at the thing dead on or it won't look right, making it very difficult for more than one person to view it at a time. I suppose you could consider this a security feature, but the screen isn't totally unreadable at an off angle, just really bad looking.-The color gamut is horrible. I used a ColorMunki Photo spectrophotometer to calibrate the thing and the resulting gamut plot doesn't come close to covering the standard sRGB color space. Then again, my built in MacBook display doesn't cover sRGB that well either, so it's not that much worse than the typically bad laptop display. My guess is that the image quality is probably comparable to the average screen on an inexpensive laptop.-As others have noted theres no brightness control. There are no controls of any kind on the thing, just a micro USB port and nothing else. The brightness I measured on mine was about 200 cd/m2 which is not bad for a laptop display.-While the built in DisplayLink USB graphics adapter is great in that it only needs a USB port, it lacks a lot of the processing power that a real graphics card with a real GPU would have. So the CPU ends up doing work that would normally be done on a graphics chipset GPU. This means it will use up some CPU power depending on what you're doing, and it's no good for video or games. So this thing is mostly for displaying documents and animated graphics which is good enough for many people.-There's no built in USB hub or anything. Perhaps there's just not enough power for one, but with only 2 USB ports on my MacBook I wish I could get at least one unpowered port out of it.Verdict:-Superior convenience and portability.-"good enough" image quality for basic productivity stuff like documents and web pages.-It's a second monitor!-Inexpensive and decent value.-Very poor viewing angle that's not very suitable for across the room viewing.-Generally poor image quality that's unsuitable for photo editing or anything color sensitive.-Some performance limitations due to USB (no good for games/video).-No screen controls at all.At some point better competing products will probably be available at which point I might consider this more of a 3 star product depending on how much newer versions cost, but at the current time I give it a solid 4 stars.

Offering Plug and Play convenience you can use these with a higher amperage USB Hub to provide multi monitor display capabilities for existing system. Generally windows 7/8 will detect the device and download the required driver. Some may experience a compatibility issue with the active system display driver since these operate as a slave device when a Primary Display is already active. First, uninstalling, then reinstalling all relevant display drivers using Windows Programs and Features, Control Panel command will correct any issue that may occur.Lack of reliable USB 3.0 support inhibits the potential for this display monitor due to the bandwidth restrictions imposed by USB 2.0 primarily affecting refresh rates. However because this Display Link type monitors' color gamut is truncated somewhat, and also because the resolution is lower than full HD, when used appropriately the overall picture quality is similar to value priced laptop displays and can provide a simpler solution to other multi-monitor setups.Overtaxing the USB ports can be observed when the display image will effectively begin to roll and distort, not unlike older CRT based television sets. Also expect some picture degradation when used in portrait mode due to the restricted viewing angle when compared to a landscape orientation. These considerations combined with limiting USB port functionality for other devices, because of the power requirement necessary to drive this type of display, requires some pre planning, and research. The additional considerations described earlier, should be reviewed prior to integrating these with any system. When integrated appropriately a workable tri-monitor setup is possible to supplement available primary display monitor desktop space for general computing tasks or possibly to augment tablets display capabilities. (Experimental Usage which might or might not work depending on the make, model, brand.)

I was shipped an older model (USB under the stand, whoever thought that was a bright idea should be fired). I dealt with the annoying task of fiddling with the USB plug until it turned on. At that point the monitor worked fine. A week later it started to blink repeatedly, i thought it was my laptop. Thankfully I had three others to test it on and it did the same on all of them.I contacted amazon and they shipped me a replacement right away (as always quick/responsive and understanding). To my surprise the replacement appears to be a new model. The USB port is no longer under the stand but in a far more appropriate spot. Its now located next to the USB sign as opposed to under it. I dont know if any other upgrades were done internally but I can tell you that this thing works great. I use it for work and I use it everywhere. I have a 17.5inch monitor and I pack both the laptop and this monitor (with a soft case) into a briefcase. It fits snug but i'm literally carrying my office around with me. I was delayed at the airport for 3 hours and was able to unpack this setup and get working in less than a minute.People have complained about the brightness, but I actually enjoy it. Its important to note that the primary use for this monitor for me is google earth and microsoft excel. I have also used it as a dedicated outlook display. All have which exceeded my expectations. I have had the replacement for about a month now with no problems. This was probably my fault but I bought the recommended USB connectors separately. There is NO need for this. The monitor comes with a plug and it works exactly the same.Pros:Double your workspaceLightweight and portableNew placement for USB port is appropriate and it makes setting this up and packing it up extremely fastBright crisp screen for work (I have never used for movies)Portrait and landscape mode which adjust automatically to how the display is positionedNo screen flicker on new modelConsNo way to adjust brightness

I'm running this monitor with a 3 year old macbook pro laptop, upgraded to Mountain Lion. I went to AOC's website and downloaded the appropriate driver that fixes any mac issues stated in other reviews. It was an easy install with virtually no setup time. The monitor itself has a decent picture for scrolling text and still-graphics. Color correction is non-existent and you can NOT use this monitor for reliable photo editing. There is a very faint high-pitched buzzing sound centralized in the back a of the monitor. Using an old yoga mat, I cut out a panel the size of the monitor and attached it over the back. This dampens the buzzing sound a bit, but it's still present. It's at a frequency where, once you become aware of it, you won't be able to shake it. The sound was enough tho ruin the convenience of having a nice looking image inches from my view.I will only use this monitor when working on Adobe Premier, where I need a lot of screen real estate and I'm tethered to headphones, otherwise I'd STRONGLY consider looking elsewhere.UPDATE 12/3/12:Apparently other reviewers are noticing a buzzing as well (one reviewer purchased enough monitors to give the buzzing a ratio of 75% of all monitors purchased. Also, the monitor doesn't display icons correctly and won't open them when the cursor clicks on them.Upon contacting GALACTICS, the vendor, they promptly responded and told me the monitor could not be replaced, but rather, only returned for a refund ASSUMING IT IS IN PRISTINE LIKE-NEW CONDITION...Hmm, I bought this monitor to use as it was intended: travel and remote display which means putting in and removing from a padded computer case. Hair-line brushes and scratches (measured in mm in length) are on the outer back and casing. According to GALACTICS, the monitor cannot be returned in this condition.I've contacted AMAZON directly to resolve this and am awaiting a response. It is still within the 14 day response time window. I will keep updating as this progresses...So far, this is the only Amazon purchase that has provided any inconvenience at all (out of 50 purchases in the last 3 years).

I bought this product today and used it for a client presentation (demo of a website). It is exactly what I was looking for. It is lightweight, runs from USB power and provides full HD sharp graphics.I looked at getting a laptop with a massive screen (which I'd only ever use for demos and as a main laptop is too heavy), then I looked at projectors. Both of these options were expensive and weren't quite right. Now, with my tiny Macbook Air and a SINGLE USB (yes, if you have USB3 it can run off one USB port, not two as other reviews have noted). I didn't even plug the laptop into power and I still had 60% battery after a 1 hour presentation!I'm stoked with this purchase. However, do not expect this to replace a normal powered monitor that has a proper graphics input. The reason is that this monitor runs off USB, meaning it doesn't make use of your graphics card. That means, no games, no animation and even full screen video is a push unless you have a very fast CPU.I ran a small window'd video trailer very smoothly, but bumping it up to full screen, it got very jerky.OS animations, such as in OSX are a little jerky also, so keep this in mind. For what it is designed to do though - which is provide an ultra portable large screen to plug into a laptop without fussing around with power adapters and monitor cables, it is PERFECT.Advantages:* Very lightweight* Runs off a single USB port (for most new computers) - needing no power adapter or special monitor cable - everything you need comes in the box.* Sharp full HD graphics* Great colour (was able to get a pretty close match to my Mac Air screen after adjusting the colour profiles* Worked great on Mac after installing the driver from their website (plug and play didn't work)* CHEAP!* Thin profileDisadvantages:* No hardware accelerated graphics, so animations and full screen video can be jerky* Thin profile, but where it attaches to the stand there is a "thing" that juts out and doesn't fold away fully, leading to my next point:* What the hell do I carry it in? It doesn't come with a bag, I'm actually looking around on Amazon to find something to carry it in.

I am a Real Estate agent that performs Broker Price Opinions for lenders and really need multiple screens in order to complete them in a reasonable amount of time. Knowing that I will be traveling within the next week (and over the upcoming summer) I looked for a well priced portable monitor that could work for me. In my home office I use a 17.5" laptop as my main computer and have been using a 27" monitor for my second. This would have been much too large for travel. I had not heard of a monitor like this before but when I noticed it on Amazon I was very interested and intrigued. After reading many of the other reviews I went ahead and ordered it. True to their typical wonderful customer service/shipping it came within 2 business days, well packaged. When I removed it from the box I was amazed at how lightweight it is. Just the thing for travel. A bit smaller than my laptop's screen size which is just fine for what I want it for. The picture is very clear and bright...I certainly can't see any difference from what I have been using up to now. Had a moments difficulty in installing the driver but I think that was my fault not the program/driver. All in all I would rate this monitor 5 stars as it is perfect for travel & at a terrific price. I will agree with the other reviewers that mentioned that it should come with a case, but I am going to order something right away (so it will be protected). If your needs are similar to mine, then you won't be disappointed with this purchase.

This screen is exactly what I was looking for to bring along with me when I am moving from one building/desk to another at school or working at home on the couch while not having to decrease productivity by cramming multiple open windows on my laptop. It is about as thick as my laptop, but it is definitely lighter and fits in my laptop bag with my pc no problem. It is the exact same resolution as my brand new lenovo laptop, so there is no problem with resolution compatibility, and the widescreen, brightness, and crisp finish make it great to look at.Yes, the USB connection port is in a spot where it's tough to see, but hey, mark the right side and get over it. It's nice that the usb port is hidden because it won't get debris stuck in it from day to day use.The unit seems fairly sturdy, although like any other monitor, I wouldn't expect it to take a big fall and keep going. As for glitches that others have reported, it appears user error might be at work... The directions in the booklet it comes with and the user manual that downloads from the disc it comes with are very explicit about setting things up properly and in order. If you follow the directions (usually you have to read them to do that) there is no reason why this shouldn't set up properly on the first try.My only gripe (worth taking off maybe 1/3 of a star, is that the automatic flip between portrait does not seem to work for me. It is super easy to switch the orientation since there's a tray icon for the screen that installs with the driver software, so it's no hassle to do it manually.Basically, for the price, it's a great idea and a product that seems well worth it. If it bugs out on me in a year, it will have been worth it. Will update if it goes before then...

To think this monitor can run off a single usb connection is truly amazing, especially for someone who has been computing for 32 years! The image is great, colors are true, and it installs without problems on Win7 64bit. I am using it as a third monitor for my notebook. I have a 23" Asus as the primary monitor, the 15.5" LCD on the notebook and this AOC as the 3rd. What a great setup with no constant need to shift windows around to see what I am doing. The monitor is light, but not quite as thin as I expected. I did not have to make any adjustments in the picture. Of course, we all know what they call 16" these days is just 16" corner to corner on a wide screen that is wide and only 7.75" tall. Netflix looks great on it and the colors, in fact, are truer than on my Asus 23".It is nicely designed except for the usual horrible shinny black frame that is a dust and fingerprint magnet. Why monitor makers just don't get the fact that shinny black is a very bad idea is beyond me. I guess they do not use computers. EVERYONE knows it is a bad idea but try to find a monitor that does not have a shinny back frame! I will not be moving it or traveling with it so I cannot comment on that. This monitor is great for the price and if it doesn't hold up to everyday use, I will revise this review.

Got two of these to test out for a classroom environment. I teach at many locations, and students often don't have 2 monitors to work from. Wanted to have classroom setups with multiple monitors without having to open machines to add video adapters. Very convenient to set up. Recommend using the newer beta drivers found on the DisplayLink site -- v7.0 is the latest version as of this writing. Works great with Windows 7 and Windows 8.Even though these are not IPS screens, you can use the monitors pretty effectively in a portrait (vertical) mode. That's been a really good configuration to edit longer text documents in Word. You can also add two or more screens to the same machine to get lots and lots of real estate. The only gripe I have is there's no brightness adjustment, but overall the screens are perfectly usable in an office setting. They also consume very little energy. Essentially that means no extra heat being generated. You do need 2 USB ports for each monitor you add -- one for the signal, and another for some extra juice that the monitor draws. You can also plug the "extra juice" USB plug into a powered hub. But using only one USB port is generally too much of a drain and the screen just flashes, trying to power up fully. Doesn't hurt anything, just needs a little extra power to start up. In fact once it's started up you can unplug the second USB cable and it continues to work fine. Just the initial startup that takes some extra juice.Haven't tried these out playing back movies or anything, but for general use in an office setting it's perfect. It's supposed to place more load on the GPU of the system but I haven't notice it tax the old Core 2 Duo or newer Core i5 machines I've used it on.In short -- highly recommended if you're in an office environment and want an easy way to add multiple high res screens.

I was so excited when I received this monitor. Setup was easy, insert CD and follow instructions. After installing the driver from the CD I did discover the there was an update from displaylink that the installed version did not register as available.I used both usb connections when setting up the monitor but I have been using the monitor with only the main usb plug connected. Two improvement/changes I would have preferred. 1) a way to mount the monitor on the wall or a mount/stand and 2) a screen ratio more common to a laptop (I am only able to compare this to the two laptops I use, perhaps my laptops are the uncommon size). The screen resolution is 1366 x 768. When I installed the driver from the CD (DL7.0) I only had the option to use 1366 x 768. Once I installed the newer version (DL7.1) I now have the option of 1366 x 768 or 1364 x 768.I feel this is a great way to add a second monitor to a laptop, a pc if you are on a budget, or if you are not tech savey. No need to install a video card, just plug and play. As soon as I have some time I will be connecting my USB monitor and USB speakers (Logitech S-150) to a USB hub for a simple laptop dock setup.

it is the best monitor in the world - nopecan you put it in a padded laptop sleeve and take it anywhere with you - you betchaI put a piece of cardboard in the sleeve, then I wrap the monitor in the styrofommy [sic] like cover it came in, and face the monitor glass to the cardboard. I've travelled all over the US - trains, planes and automobiles - and its still a monitor.two issues with the cable - one it is a special cable, you lose it, your monitor is dead - it looks USB, but they must do something with the wiring, because it won't work with a standard cable. Second, which design engineer decided to hide the connector on the monitor. It isn't like anyone cares about the esthetics of the back of the monitor. They could have made it super simple for big fingered folks like me to plug in.Otherwise, any of the other issues - like brightness and hum are easily beaten by the fact that I have a travel monitor that easily goes with me and my laptop.Added bonus - I can plug the monitor in, then plug a projector or other monitor in the VGA port on my laptop, and I've got three monitors.

I'm using this with a 15" MacBook Pro, and I love it. It's wonderful having the extra screen real estate without having to carry around another power brick. On the MacBook, you only have to use one USB port (the MacBook has 10 watt USB ports to accommodate the iPad 2 and later). You *do* have to go to the company Web site and download the Mac driver for it (actually, the driver may be on a disk that comes with it, but why use that when you can get the latest driver from the Web site?).There may be some slight interaction glitches between the driver and the MacBook screen management. I was using the upper right corner of the MacBook as a hot corner to lock the screen. That no longer works with the driver installed. For me, that's not a big deal. The upper right hot corner works for other shortcuts, and Control-Shift- is a shortcut for locking the screen. The only other complaint is that the thing is a little thick for easy portability (i.e., in the same briefcase or backpack with the Mac). That's a pretty whiney complaint given that the technology will sort that out in a couple of years.

My company purchased one for me as a "Beta Tester" for my coworkers. Since I many times have to give presentations and work away from my desk, the idea of a light second monitor was appealing. And boy is it feather-light! I usually slip it into my backpack next to my laptop, and I barely know it is in there. Add to that the fact that it is USB powered and can be used landscape or portrait and you have a clear winner.Pros:1. USB powered. No power cord to deal with.2. Feather light.3. Very good screen resolution.4. Greatly added to my productivity (I even use it at my workspace to add a THIRD monitor to the mix).Cons:1. On my Mac I get some sort of weird screen effect after it wakes up from going to sleep mode. The screen becomes covered in diagonal lines, which disappear if I move the window or click and drag the mouse across the window. Not really a problem, and sometimes I pretend it's an etch-a-sketch. ;-)2. I worry about damaging the screen in my backpack. Wish it came with a cover.3. The USB port on the monitor is in an awkward location. It is nestled inside the cavity where the stand folds in, and this makes it a little bit of work to get the thing plugged in. Why they didn't just have it on the surface I have no idea. Still, not a big deal.

Pros:1. USB ONLY! No power cord, no VGA cord, just a single usb cord.2. Super Light. I weighed it and it is the exact weight as my IPad 1.3. No Lag, seamlessly extend your desktop4. Great resolution5. Easily plays youtube videos (not full screen though)Cons:1. Doesnt come with a pouch to protect the screen when transporting it.2. You can almost "see" the pixels when the screen is all white.3. Don't expect to use this for any type of photo editing... you could use through for your pallets or other windows.4. Glossy screen has a lot of reflections.Primary Use:1. For work, mostly uses Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.So this is just an initial review and will update if things change, but so far it seems like it is going to exceed my expectations. My biggest concern was that there might be type of "lag" with the monitor. Nope, it feels and acts like any other 2nd monitor attached to your computer. It even plays youtube videos very nicely, however it could not play them in full screen. So if you have a horrible screen, and planned to use this one to watch videos... it wont work, full screen that is.As you can see from my picture, it aligns very nice with my Lenovo T410s. It is actually about 1.5 inches shorter but still much better than any other 2nd monitor I use. One problem I do see is actually transporting the monitor. The monitor is MEANT to be transported and easily connected on the go, yet there is no protective cover for the screen. I might have to make a custom pillow case or something, otherwise I am afraid I will scratch it.Another negative is their decision to go with a GLOSSY screen instead of a tft or anti glare type of screen. When working at the office the overhead lights really cause a pretty significant glare if you do not angle it.Ultimate Monitor (2nd generation of this should be)- Have a cover almost like that Ipad2 cover- Be thinner. The weight is perfect, but the screen could be just a hair thinner- NO GLOSSY display!I will update this review as the weeks go by, but really, I don't think I could have asked for anything else (besides a screen protector).PS, pick up one of these 3 ft. USB 2.0 A Male to A Male and Mini-B 5-Pin Male Y Power Booster Cable for 2.5" External Hard Drives and Hubs, Manhattan 306041 for six bucks as a backup power cord.UPDATE: 12/3/2011. Everything still working great. But wanted to add the following:- Make sure to INSTALL THE drives on CD that comes in the box. That driver is what allows the monitor to automatically rotate the screen when you physically turn the monitor portrait or landscape. If you don't install it, you will have to manually change the settings for it to rotate. (I love reading PDF files in portrait mode)

I can deal with it, but the top left corner of my monitor becomes a dead space. In other words, anytime I try to click anything in that corner it becomes unable to be selected. I believe this could be fixed through a software update. I would not let this dissuade you from buying this monitor though. It is thin enough to be portable. The glossy screen is a con but the brightness is not bad. The screen is plenty visible aside from the occasional glare. The 1366 x 768 pixel space is enough for now. I know this technology is relatively new but it would be fantastic if the resolution were higher. I can never have too much real estate screen space on my monitors. Perfect for my work Lenovo laptop. Easy to install software. Fits in my laptop bag. I'm sure something better will come along soon. Cross your fingers for a portable 1920x1080 monitor. Bit if your like me. I prefer the 1920x1200 ratio. Headroom is important to me when reading multiple documents. Its like having two monitors in one. Its why I have two Dell U2410 monitors for my desktop.

I use two 28" screens with my desktop computer, so it's always been a big hit when I go remote and need to work on my awesome laptop. No matter how good this laptop is, it still only has a 14" screen. With the smaller single screen, I estimate I can be about 70% as effective as I can while working at home. This AOC screen allows me to take *some* of the benefits of a big desk setup with me on the road. I don't carry this for meetings, conferences, or for using at the coffee shop or on the train! But I DO take it when I'm likely to be in the same hotel for a few days, or abroad for a few weeks. It helps me set up a remote office without a big productivity hit.Pros:Simple USB-only hookupcan work off laptop batteries, which drain faster, but still no plug is requiredI plugged it into Windows 7...it found its own drivers, then just workedLightnice built-in standeasy for portrait or landscapesame resolution as my laptopFor sales guys, or people making presentations, it's easy to point one screen at the customer, and the laptop at you.I plugged a single plug into a single USB 2.0 port, and that worked (no second USB plug needed for power.)Easy to shareCons:thicknot protected for travel, you'll need to get a bag or some container, or fit it into your existing briefcaseI don't like the location of the USB port, which is hiding in the slot where the stand retracts. You need to remove the wire to fold in the stand. Some of the ways I use two screens to be more productive:1) I can have email on one window, and a browser on the other, when I click news links in newsletters, it opens a browser and loads the page while I can still continue reading the newsletter. This way, I'm not waiting for web pages to load, I only look at them after they are ready.2) I can be writing one document while viewing source information on the other screen instead of needing to flip back and forth.3) Multitasking, such as viewing a video while managing files or cleaning up an inbox.4) I put one in portrait to view a full paper page of a document, instead of a partial page.5) There are many more little ways two screens helps. It ends up saving a few seconds at a time...but it does it over and over, ALL DAY. It adds up. I put two screens on the desks of all my staff, so they can work better and the response is universal: Day 1: "I don't really need 2 screens, I work fine with one." Day 3: "I see what you mean, there are a few things I can do faster." Day 30: "I will NEVER go back to working with one screen on a regular basis."

USB-powered is so very convenient; I use a laptop as a desktop replacement at home and this makes a perfect complement for local portability (i.e. from desk to coffee table, etc). The fact that the stand in the back can be adjusted for landscape or portrait is a nice bonus.I can't comment on the durability of the screen during travel as this guy just stays home, but I do move it around a lot. Its very low weight makes it tougher to damage in short falls or bumps than if it were a full five-pound glass monitor.Resolution is of course low for the size, but 1366x768 is an extremely common resolution for budget and small laptops. Brightness is good enough for a room with natural lighting so I'm happy about that. I'm very satisfied with it overall, though I would have paid more for a higher res model.I was really surprised to see that I could show movies from Media Player Classic on it. I expected there to be some codec or video driver issues, but no, it works seamlessly. Contrast and color are not ideal but it's still serviceable.Overall for less than a hundred bucks, if you think you'd enjoy what I've described above, I'd definitely recommend it.

I got one of these in an attempt to get more display real estate without getting a higher-end video card. I connected it, it installed the drivers (6.3.4) and then commenced to blinking all the monitors on and off as it was connected and disconnected from USB every few seconds.I even got the most recent version of the displaylink software/drivers : 7.0, and that made no difference. My main computer is Win 7 64-bit with two monitors connected to a GTX-275 at 1600x1200 resolution each.My laptop is Win 7 64-bit also running 1600x1200, and my netbook is Windows Starter Edition - 32 bit.On the main and laptop I got the same problem, all monitors flashing on and off and the usb connect/disconnect sound going off every few seconds. On the netbook it connected and worked, but only as a mirror, not an extended desktop, and only at the same resolution as my netbook, 1024x600, not exactly what I bought a 1920x1024 monitor for. Turns out this display cannot make your netbook support a higher resolution. I should have taken that into consideration. Here is how I got it working on my main system:I had assumed that the screen would detect the correct resolution, but apparently it does not. I changed both of my existing monitors to 1600x1024 (from 1600x1200) and THEN connected the new monitor, and it worked fine! It even reset my main two monitors to 1600x1200 and configured itself as 1920x1080. I now have all three screens working, with a smooth transfer from the new AOC on the left to my main screen in the center and my extended monitor on the right.

At $99, I am impressed as can be by the usefulness and performance of this monitor.I've never needed more than just the single USB connection to power it and it's worked like a champ on every PC and laptop I've connected it to.The LED brightness is more than adequate, and the screen updates are always good enough. The frame updates vary by machine, but on my desktop it's perfectly smooth. With my lowest end laptop there's some slight lag, where I can tell in HD video it's not quite as smooth but still usable. For basic work, it's never an issue. You may find see a pretty big difference in color if your desktop's set to "warm" where the original monitor will appear to have a yellow tint in comparison, but that can be adjusted for the original monitor or left as is. The LED lighting will give it a cooler temperature look.At 16" it fits in my laptop's bag easily and it's just fantastic always having the option of an additional monitor. It could even be a main monitor if you don't need higher than 1366x768 resolution.

Good:-After I installed the drivers from the website, I plug it in and my Macbook recognizes it immediately. It works even as a third monitor when the second is plugged into the thunderbolt port.-The kickstand will keep it up and it is really easy to go between portrait and landscape-The entire thing is simple with no buttons and a single USB portBad:-The whole thing feels cheap. The display is glossy and a little blurry. The casing is cheap black plastic that grabs fingerprints like you might grab $20 bills falling from the sky. The kickstand does not sit tight when you adjust it. I feel like it will fall off after a few months. I will update this review if it does.-The screen is too bright and there is no way to change it.-Before I upgraded to OSX Mountain Lion, it would occasionally draw too much power and my laptop would shut it off saying something like "some device is drawing too much power so everything has been disabled to avoid damaging your computer". It would usually work again after I plugged it back in again but it was still disconcerting. But, I haven't had any trouble since I upgraded which was three days ago. [[EDIT: It was an issue with the USB cord. I used one of my old ones yesterday and did not see the issue. Star restored]]-The usb port is in a weird place and it is tough to get the plug in there.Overall. I would buy it again since it is reasonably priced and pretty much does its job. It gets two stars because I am rating on quality. If I were rating on value, it would get 3... maybe 4 stars.Tip: I bought the 17" SANOXY cover. http://www.amazon.com/Widescreen-Notebook-Fujitsu-Samsung-Gateway/dp/B001N4KGNS/ref=pd_cp_pc_1. It works but it is a little too big. Go with a size smaller.

I purchased this AOC monitor from Amazon because I wanted to use it as my laptop's extension monitor. I have two monitors for my desktop PC at home and at office. I wanted the same setup on the road as well.I chose model over Toshiba's: Toshiba 14-inch USB Ultra-portable Mobile LCD Monitor because this monitor was supposed to have better contrast ratio & response time than the Toshiba.Although that's what their spec sheet says, the evidence says otherwise. Next to my SONY laptop this AOC monitor looks terrible in both contrast and color. I'm not sure about the response time, but everything looks white-out because of the bad contrast with bit of greenish color as if a filter that is slightly tinted in green is over the monitor. It just doesn't look good at all. Here is my quick summary on this product.Pros: Easy to use, reasonable weight though I would be happier if they shave another 1/2 pound or so.Cons: Terrible contrast, marginal color reproduction, thick body (much thicker than my SONY laptop!!), makes hissing sound as long as the monitor is on (this can be very annoying if your room is quiet)At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. This monitor was around $100 while the Toshiba was around $180. I returned this AOC monitor for the Toshiba. Save yourself the trouble and go with the Toshiba Toshiba 14-inch USB Ultra-portable Mobile LCD Monitor. I promise, you will be happier with the Toshiba in the end.

So I bought this monitor back in December 2012. It has been great so far. Installed the driver, connected through the USB provided and as quickly as you read it I was working with 2 monitors. My primary use has been for work, working with Word, Excel, PDFs and its been amazing. I did note that sometimes when I didnt have my laptop plugged to the battery the monitor would not turn on. Well this morning I got into work, plugged in the monitor, and nothing. Just stays black like no power is getting to it. Ive restarted my computer, unplugged all USB devices and can't figure what is wrong. Monitor seems to have died. This would have been a 5 star easily, for the price, light weight, and great use. But after 3 months and $100 it has stopped working. I will attempt to get it exchange or something but lets see how that works out. I will update here if it comes back alive or the exchange process goes smoothly.

I got this screen so that I could view full screen PDFs of records for legal review. For this purpose, this is a great 2nd screen. Apparently there is a workaround to adjust the bright screen, but I'm really happy with the brightness. I can see an entire document page and a bit of the next. This has increased my productivity tremendously. As promised, the screen converts to landscape or portrait depending on how it is placed. The only downside is that it apparently draws so much power that I can't use it with my other portable Toshiba 14-inch USB Ultra-portable Mobile LCD Monitor (which I bring with me constantly and love because of its fantastic built-in case). I contacted the company which provided a rapid response (in good English) via e-mail. Assuming more power (rather than incompatibility) is the issue, I purchased this Plugable USB 2.0 10 Port Hub (with Power Adapter) hoping that will make the difference there. Gets 4 stars instead of 5 because the screen is super glossy and needs a separate case to take it anywhere. Still very happy with the product and if the port hub lets me use 2 portable monitors, I may get a 2nd because it will look pretty sharp (and be useful) to have my laptop (which is also my desktop) flanked by two monitors in portrait mode.UPDATE: Did some photo editing and discovered that this is not a good screen for that; too glossy or something. It is difficult to see the photos clearly enough to figure out what adjustments they need. When in portrait mode it's too narrow for efficient internet surfing or viewing of web pages, unless you are actually reading something in (long, narrow) portrait mode. Of course all you have to do is turn it on its side to correct that. Still very happy with it for document review, but decided that one of these is all I need.

On a Lenovo ThinkPad running Win 7 - plugged USB device in and let Win7 install the basic driver off device. Did not install the Digital Display driver at 1st because did not care about the Portrait/Landscape self adjustment feature. Monitor had soft black glow but no display. Tried it with 2 USB cables to see if wasn't powered properly. No change. Removed, rebooted, re-attached. No Change. Re-attached again and this time let the Digital Display driver install. As soon as it did the Win 7 program crashed which is a 1st I have seen it do that on any machine. Could not start Windows. Could not start Windows - Safe Mode. Many google research and tried different items. No luck. Since a work PC brought to IT Infrastructure team and using original Win Discs was able to restart Windows and uninstall the Driver. Laptop works again. Do not use if on a Lenovo at all - you'll be sorry.Tried to attach to a newish Dell Latitude. Same issue - soft glow of monitor but no display. Did not attempt driver install due to issue above. Now I am stuck with a nice Sleeve I bought to hold monitor and the monitor. My experience.

I got this on Jan 20 and loved it, then started noticing a flicker in the screen. Wiggling the cord helped and at first it wasn't too bad but over time it progressively got worse. It finally gotto the point I had to do something so I tried changing out the cord. This seemed to work again for a while, then slowly started noticing that it was doing it again (appears to be something internal at the connection). Also, now there is a vertical line in the middle of the screen that just appeared out of nowhere. Either I got a lemon or these monitors are simply poor quality. Decided to return for replacement only to find out that my window of opportunity expired in 30 days. Hows that for service. I'm not happy with the quality of the monitor and even less happy over the quality of the service. Buyer beware...

I returned this monitor immediately after purchase. As soon as it turned on after having to install drivers which seemed to be laggy, I noticed a pretty loud high pitched sound that made me wish to turn it off again.Besides the noise which is the worst thing about this monitor, there is the awful picture quality - not mentioning the USB connection is very slow and moving things on your desktop seems like watching a filmstrip projection - the viewing angle is devastating and there seems to be an interlaced effect on the screen which makes it look grainy and flickering. If you are sensitive about noises and you want a good picture quality, I highly recommend to look into other options. I got a HP Elite L2201x for almost the same price (for under $100) whic I love and it is even 22 inch instead of 16.Cheers

Fingerprint Magnet. Easy software install. Good brightness. A little variation side to side of the backlight, but not bad. Cable plug in is in an inconvenient location but oh well. Love it in portrait mode. Would like a higher resolution but nothing else can compete with the feature set / price. The stand is a marvel of mechanical engineering. I like the rubber feet that are on the bottom and side for nonskid portrait/landscape. The accelerometer detection works pretty flawlessly. Mine worked with a standard cable rather than the non-standard included cable - but your mileage may vary depending on your USB port power rating. This display will go in my road-warrior programmer toolkit.Very light. Bought a case logic case and put a foam core board insert in it to protect the screen since the case is padded but not rigid enough to protect against an impact (this works great by the way). The first one I bought from Amazon had a very bad moire effect from either bad glass separation, or a burnt LED backlight. It started from the top center and radiated throughout the display. It was like the plates were pinched. I "cough cough" fiddled with it and the problem appeared unfixable even with a bit of McGuiver engineering. I was really sad as the display otherwise was perfect for my needs. Returned it in 15 minutes to Amazon and ran to a local retail outlet and paid more for the same unit.My buddy saw it and had one on the way in 20 minutes he liked it so much. He wanted to have a 2nd monitor at the house he could drag around without a bunch of cable clutter.

Pretty neat.Shipping sucked. I received it with the box sliced open apparently with a box knife. The box inside was unopened and all works as advertised. This unit was routed from Kent, Wa. (Seattle area) to Portland, Or. then on to Port Angeles, Wa. and finally to me here in QUILCENE, Wa. My buddy ordered one and his was shipped from Kent, Wa. Directly to his house in one day. I live 35 minutes from him and mine took 5 days to receive. Go figure?

Pros: light, one USB cable (so less clutter), best for using as a spare setup w/ laptopCons: not VESA mount compatible (poorly described), software issues, pricey for a basic no frills monitorOnly three stars because of poor description and price. Otherwise it's decent, but not mind blowing. I had issues w/ loading software on a brand new computer. My intent was too hook up both machines and do a cable transfer from the old XP to the new Windows 7. However I got stuck in a catch 22. The monitor won't operate w/o first loading it's software and the computer would not operate w/o doing some basic set up / password stuff. So I had to unhook the new monitor, hook up the old monitor, load software then proceed. After that it worked fine. Ultimately tho' I returned it since it could not be used w/ the VESA mount dual arm desk mount.

I work from home, and that means sometimes you just need to go out or go insane, however, my performance always suffered while working "on the road" as I'm used to a 3 screen setup.Long awaited were for me USB powered screens. I decided to purchase this 16" mainly for price (figured I'd rather buy 2 of them instead of a 21" if I wanted to spend the $s). I think it was definitely the best choice now that I have it not just due to price, but also I think the 21" might be too large for mobile workers to carry aroundThe screen's brightness is right on for me, good news since you can't change it anywhere (there are no controls on the device). I haven't used in bright sun light, however consider it an unlikely scenario for my purposes.I can run the screen on a single USB on my MacBook Pro. One thing to consider is, if you're running on battery, your time-unplugged will be seriously cut down. I think I loose probably 30% uptime on battery with the screen connected.I've recently switched it to portrait mode and I think its fantastic for my line of work (consoles and IDEs), the one aspect I think could be improved is the back support when in portrait mode, it has to keep a more tilted angle that I'd like, and there's a single position on the back support (I tried opening the support "half way" to decrease the tilt but that made the screen unstable).Great purchase overall, plan on getting me a second one to have 2 portrait screens. I would not have them share a hub with other USB devices as they're power hungry (obviously).

Set-up was basically plug and play with a side trip to update drivers (I'm on Win 8) that requires no technical skill, thus is painless for those of us who are tech challenged. The biggest problem I have, is that viewing angles are severely limited.I bought this monitor to use as an extended desk top. It does that quite well. If you are new to using multiple monitors, it takes only a short time to master mousing from one to the other. If you use sites like Hulu, ESPN, CBS, and enjoy viewing the content on your TV, the AOC E1649FWU is very handy for looking up info or checking other content while the main programing streams to a larger monitor and/or your TV.

I use this monitor as a secondary monitor at home. It's connected to my laptop. The screen works with everything: YouTube, 1080p videos, Office, internet browsing, etc. It's extremely convenient too. You just plug in the usb cord into your computer. That's it. There is no messy power cord! Installing the drivers on my Windows 7 took two minutes. It was quick and painless. You can also rotate the monitor and it will go into landscape/portrait mode like a tablet. It's great feature if you work with rows of data on Excel spreadsheets. Here are a list of cons:1) You can't see it in the pictures, but the product series code (e1649Fwu) is on the top right corner of the monitor. It's not a big deal, but it looks stupid.2) The viewing angle is not the best when it's in vertical mode especially if you have a light bulb overhead.3) You can't change the brightness and back light. It's a little bit too bright for me.Overall, it's an extraordinary piece of hardware.

For the price, this monitor is light, works well, and has stood up over the past month. If the USB port was flush with the case, instead of plugging directly into the back, I would give it 5 stars. As it is, I have to set it up every time I take it out of my bag, instead of just leaving it plugged into my MacBook air.Viewing angles are better side to side when it is in landscape mode than up and down, which means you have to point it right at you if you've set it up vertically. At the time of my purchase, there was no automatic orientation-switch for moving the screen for Macs, but I made an Automator workflow and assigned it to a key command to make. That's a nice extra, but the real sell is a cheap, light, USB-powered monitor that I can take with me to study in coffee shops and take notes in class.

Prior to this device I had to pack a heavy bulky external monitor with a big stand in my checked luggage and spend $25 each time I flew anywhere. This is a life and money saver. I love it. The one drawback our company has found is that the USB port is in an inconvienient spot and may break if you're not careful. Also there's no protection built in for the screen so another thing to keep in mind. I treat mine like a baby and its definitely necessary to ensure no harm is done. The screen itself (the front side) is very fragile and vulnerable to pressure, shocks and strikes. It breaks very easily when transported. It is not enough to keep it in an ordinary laptop bag. It needs some kind of sturdy hard protection plate, padded on the inside towards the screen.Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could transport the screen without breaking it? Bought this as an extended monitor for my Lenovo U400 with the switchable Intel / AMD Radeon graphics. It crashed my system to the dreaded blue dump screen. Luckily I was able to reboot by going to the F-8 boot options and selecting "boot from a previous configuration".I downloaded the latest DisplayLink driver, Version 7.0M3, and it still crashed the system when I attached the monitor and rebooted. I called Customer Service at both AOC and DisplayLink. After some fix tries the bottom line is they don't have a fix for this yet. The incompatibility is with the AMD Catalyst program which is needed to run the switchable graphics and the DisplayLink driver.I had to return the monitor to Amazon. If I can verify DisplayLink and/or AMD fix the issue I may reorder it. Ordering the other Monitor alternatives (Toshiba or Lenovo) won't work either as they both use DisplayLink drivers. So, I give it the one star as it crashes my system but from the reviews it works well on other systems with non switchable graphics.

The overall construction: with that price you shouldn't expect a"tough book" quality but it's adequate for day to day use.the next step will be an usb touch screen. This monitor is fantastic for what I use it for. I needed a portable monitor for use at work with my laptop and this does the job very well. It was the best-priced portable monitor I could find and the resolution is high enough to be useful for multiple windows. The next price I could find was $200 for a Lenovo 14" monitor and I didn't want to spend double for a smaller screen. It is a bit thicker than I imagined (about as big as my Dell XPS Studio 16 laptop), but it is fairly light. That being said, it feels a little bit cheap (plastic shell makes it feel like it might break if I'm not careful), but I haven't had any issues with it so far. The screen is wider than my 16" laptop but not as tall. The colors are not as vibrant as other monitors which is noticeable when I drag a colorful image from my laptop screen to the monitor, but for spreadsheet/internet research purposes this is a fantastic monitor. If you are picky about colors or are doing photo editing, etc. then DO NOT get this monitor!!! However, for general use I love it.You can not adjust the screen brightness which might bother some, but in an office building the brightness seems to be just right. I tried it in a darker room and it really is a bit too bright for my liking but I never actually use it in a dark room so this isn't an issue for me.Pros: No delayLarge screenBright enough for office/outdoor useOnly 1 USB port needed (no other ports needed!)Cons: Feels a bit cheapMust take USB cord out to fold it upColor is a bit offBrightness not adjustableOverall, I think this is a fantastic monitor for the price and I would buy it again in an instant.

An excellent travel option for the MBA. The MBA is a lightweight travel solution, which is great while in transit. However, once you reach your location, the MBA is very limited. For my old eyes, the native typeface is very small, and there is not enough real estate. This AOC monitor does a great job of expanding your viewing area without adding much weight. I put the monitor in its own carrying case, and it is not overly heavy. The type is clear and legible and plenty bright enough. Colors are also nice, but they are not accurate. As someone mentioned, do not attempt critical work on photographs using this monitor. The resolution is also a bit disappointing. It is 1366x768 which is much lower than the 1440x900 of my 13" MBA, so I can't add as many windows as I'd like. Another problem is that the monitor doesn't rotate on the Mac (at least it doesn't with the driver I downloaded in February). The monitor would be fantastic for editing letters in portrait mode, but that option isn't available on the Mac. However, for what it adds, I can live without that. Nice surprising, the monitor really draws down your battery quickly, so definitely use it with a power adapter connected. If you use a Mac, be sure to download the latest driver. Unless the company has updated the supplied software, you will need to visit the company's website to get the correct drivers. Once you have the drivers installed, using the monitor is simply plug and play.I think that I paid well over $100 for this monitor, and I have received more than my money's worth. Now that it is under $100, it is a no-brainer.

It is, of course, a monitor and not an object to load other packages on top of or sit on. I would not place it in a trunk.I bought a sleeve for it on Amazon so there will be some protection. I will be putting it right next to the laptop in the my laptop bag. I would not, however, simply place it in the trunk or anywhere alone without some type of protective sleeve or bag.

It is light-weight, does portrait or landscape, has LED brightness and is self-powered from most PCs, thru the USB cable.Keep in mind, that for it's low price, you don't get a rugged-ized, "battlefield" unit; so be careful with it, and if you carry it in a laptop case, make sure nothing hard or sharp is pressed against it's unprotected screen.BTW, AOC changed the location of the USB connection from under the stand to beside the stand, eliminating a design flaw that many have complained about.

Великолепно

I bought this monitor several months ago. It was the least expensive portable laptop monitor and thought maybe I was taking a big risk with it. WOW...no way, it turned out to be just what I needed. And it works flawlessly. The other comments about this monitor being cheaply made in my opinion is incorrect. In addition, it's very easy to hook up, contrary to other comments. I spend a lot of time away from my office working at other business locations so I can't take my second 22" monitor with me. I depend on dual monitors for my work (data architecture and analytics) so this 16" monitor really fills the bill and does it well.

I purchased this product for two purposes. First, to allow clients of my estate planning practice to view their documents on a monitor at the same time I am viewing them. The second was to provide a second monitor in the booth when I do public address for sporting events. At this price point, and for those purposes, neither of which involves playback of video, and considering that the monitor is powered through a USB port, not a power outlet, it is an ideal solution. The only scare was that the CD shipped with the monitor did not have a version of the Mac software that was compatible with Mac OS 10.8. Fortunately, the AOC website had a free download of the updated software required, so all is well.

If it was bigger, it would be more difficult to carry. If it was smaller, it wouldn't be as functional. It's really just right and I can't believe how light it is.I can work from anywhere, but I do need a lot of screen space. I bought a 17 inch laptop and I had been carrying around a monitor in the box I bought it in. This was awkward and lame. With this nice portable screen, I popped it in my new $5 sleeve from Amazon and dropped it in my laptop bag. I'm good to go with just my laptop back back. I just love my refined portability. And now I can enjoy the freedom of not having to use a monitor cable and power cord. One less thing to find an outlet for is always good.

Хорошо

Just got this monitor (AOC E1649FWU) today and it was a breeze to set up. I am only using one of the two provided USB plugs and it works fine. The USB port it's connected to is directly on the motherboard of a desktop PC and I imagine other configurations with laptops, etc will need both plugs to adequately power the monitor. The rotation detection works right out of the box (with the included driver installed). I have tried video from youtube and it works fine with no stuttering - even full screen. The colors are vibrant, text is sharp, and scrolling is smooth while browsing. I did notice that it seems a little sensitive to viewing angle (dark colors wash out a bit) but it's not too bad and the monitor viewing angle has decent adjustment range. As for the brightness control, it has no built in adjustment. It is rather bright out of the box, but as others have mentioned that can be fixed. Download this program [...]and copy it to the desktop of this monitor, then run it. You can set the brightness level - default is 40% and works great.I even tried running a 3D video game on it (World of Tanks) and it ran OK. The video processing over USB could not keep up and there were a lot of artifacts and jaggies on the screen but it was still playable. This is most likely dependent on your processor, your USB ports, and your video card but the monitor is not really designed for this type of activity. Still, it was impressive.I'm happy with the purchase. It's a great second monitor if you don't need a huge amount of screen real estate. It's light and portable and most apps look great.
