My first one arrived with a "buzz" noise that was irritating. The dealer promptly replaced it. Simple to use and comes with it's own cable so no need to purchase a separate one

So I'm an IT road warrior, constantly going back and forth between two offices I work at plus my home, and having multiple monitors is a must when you're in my line of work. I'd been searching high and low for a good portable monitor and so far this has fit the bill, I cut to the chase, its great, a single USB connection gets you up and running, assuming that connection is USB 2.0 or higher.Pros- Lightweight, single USB connection required- Sufficient resolution of 1366x768 matches my 15.6" laptop monitor resolution.- Software is required for the auto-pivot functionality which is relatively smooth.Cons- no buttons to turn the monitor on or off or to adjust any brightness levels- no sleeve to pack the monitor in, picked up a 15.6" sleeve at the store for it.- not exactly snappy response time, then again, it is all powered and run over one cable.- wish they made a model that had 1900x1200 resolution

Excellent picture quality.Would prefer to regular stand so that the tilt can be adjustable, though.The USB connection is hard to reach and I've already destroyed one USB cable connector because of it. Too close to reach.

I love this monitor. I'm always in meetings and have to work through them. Having a 2nd monitor next to my laptop is very helpful. The only complaint is the plug-in for the monitor is in an awkward place.

The price was fifteen dollars more when I got it last December. The monitor is light and the screen is sharp, it works out to be the best companion for my 10 inch netbook. Yes I also noticed the lag issue, i.e., how the cursor seems to move much more slowly on the monitor. I tried plugging in both USB plugs and solved the problem. I took off 1 star because the USB plug on the back of the monitor is not very solid. If it were a tighter fit, I would be willing to carry it around as a portable monitor. However, I am concerned that the plug may break easily so it is now stationary in my offce.APRIL 2012 UPDATE: My relationship with this product ended abruptly two weeks ago. It would not turn on after it was plugged in. I did not have to move the monitor around much and only had to connect and disconnect it from my laptop. Tried the standard troubleshooting techniques (including restarting my laptop) and nothing worked. It is now lying face down in my closet. Will contact customer service and try to revive it before I decide to take any stars off.JUNE 2012 UPDATE: I tried again and it worked fine. Was it pissed at me for something that I did? Probably.

i travel a lot and have been looking for a travel-friendly LCD monitor i can take with me on business trips. i was excited to hear about this product -- only $99 for 16" and no heavy power supply or base to lug around.unfortunately you get what you pay for.a) technical failure: the AOC device driver immediately crashed the display on my lenovo thinkpad X201 tablet running windows 7 (a fairly standard laptop). it was completely unrecoverable and required a system restoreb) the ergonomics of the monitor itself are terrible. it's clunky (1.5-2.0" thick) even though the plastic feels completely hollow. in contrast, my ipad is 0.37" thick AND has a giant battery in it to last 10 hours. so there's no technical reason for the LCD only to be so thick (probably just cheaper).in short, a great idea ubt i would wait for AOC's version 2.0 to improve upon this. i've read decent reviews of toshiba's USB-powered monitor, but it's only 14", which isn't that much bigger than the laptop itself.

AOC 16".I returned the first one as DOA.The instructions, are lack there of, are at fault.When the replacement also acted as if dead I boxed it up and printed the return.Prior to returning I again went to the internet to find out why I was unable to get this to work with my Macbook Pro. (Being a lifelong mac user I'm accustomed to 'plug and play', and as these come with a software disc for Windows only, along with the fact that the box states Mac, I concluded that even with the use of two USB ports in its self a task to try, as the Macbook Pro has one USB on either side)I discovered that I needed to download drivers for this device ([...])I downloaded and installed the software. My Macbook Pro required that I use 2 USB ports, that was a problem for me, so I used a cheap USB wall charger (used to charge an iPod) and that provided plenty of power for the new monitor, a better way would have been to use a powered USB hub.All that said, It's working very well and is 'now' worth the money.

I bought this because my mom was coming into town and needed to see things on which I was working on my laptop. Since her eyesight isn't all that good, I thought this larger monitor would be perfect. I deliberately bought the larger size to make it easier for her to see so I was extremely disappointed when the size of the display was no larger than the size of my laptop's display. I called customer service, who confirmed the display can only be as large as the maximum resolution of the laptop. Another disappointment was the need to use up 2 USB ports for the monitor (but, I have discovered once it's fired up, you can remove one of the USB's and continue to use the display). While having this monitor has come in handy, the display size was a major disappointment.

The AOC E1649FWU 16" portable monitor is the perfect companion for my ASUS 1005PE-PU17 notebook. It took a little investigating to discover that Windows Starter that shipped with the ASUS did not support multiple displays. After and upgrade to Windows Home Premium, everything worked great. The display is crisp and clear. It works seamlessly with my main display.The AOC monitor is light and portable. I use it with the notebook on the road as an efficient mobile office set up for my indexing business. I also use it with my desktop PC back in the office to display manuscript pages while indexing - with the auto rotate feature I can display each page in its entirety at 75% magnification. It's like having an old-fashioned bookstand that displayed paper pages, only with all of the features a PDF offers.Great product!

I was a little nervous when I bought this screen thinking that a USB monitor could really not work, but it does GREAT. I plugged this into my computer, it automatically searched and installed the drivers (Windows 7) then the computer needed a reboot and there it is, your second screen is working. It's just like any other screen. It's bright and clear. My first order of business with the screen was with Adobe Lightroom fixing pictures. I would recommend this screen.

I purchased this because I have a dual monitor desktop that I use for content creation and I needed the same with my laptop. The monitor works as advertised and connects to a newer laptop with only one USB plug. I do suggest that one downloads the latest drivers from Displaylink and not use the ones that came with the monitor. The response time is so, so, but that is to be expected from a USB monitor and it works well as a second monitor to use for menus, word processing, etc... There is a screen door effect, but it isn't really noticeable unless you are within a couple of inches of the monitor. Another issue I have found is that the monitor sometimes takes quite a while to turn back on after the laptop is awakened from sleep. This could be my system, but it is worth noting. The only real gripe that I have is that there are no brightness controls physically on the monitor or even in the software so the default brightness is quite high. Even with the few issues it still is a solid little monitor that greatly expands the desktop for a decent price.

Perfect for someone who wants to have the productivity boost of a second screen when working on the road.I am using it with a 13" macbook pro. Was easy to hook up after downloading the drivers.Clarity and brightness of the screen are very good (better than I was expecting!). Portrait mode is great for document editing.Lightweight and easy enough to carry.I only just bought this so cant speak to the durability, but so far I am delighted with the purchase.

It's a great monitor and fine with the right driver. The drivers for OS X 10.7.3 were a bit of a mess. The right driver for OS X 10.7.3 is here: http://displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1538Rotation will work fine with this driver, but it won't be automatic. To rotate, go to System Preferences (freshly opened), then Command+Option+click on Displays. That'll give you a version of the Display options window that will let you rotate it.I'm using OS X 10.7.3 and tried to use the driver from AOC's webpage. The first time I tried to rotate the screen my system locked up, complete with frozen blue screen. Then after restarting my system locked up every time I plugged in the screen. So I uninstalled that driver and installed the one listed above and everything works great. This thing is beautiful in portrait mode and lighter than a paper notebook. Unfortunately there's no way to dim the screen and it could use a carrying case. But who cares, it's a portable USB powered external monitor.

My business is retouching and post-production. So wherever I go I have to carry a mobile workstation with me in case my clients call and see they need something unplanned in a hurry. When you are used to working with 3 or 4 displays at the office, it's irritating to be limited to one. This guy has been great so far. I use it for my tools and panels when in Photoshop. It's also great to use on a daily basis with my laptop for my orders screen or email. I also like that it auto rotates to portrait. This is great for some of my long excel sheets or when I'm writing code. Even if I decide to do paperwork downstairs in front of my TV, it's great that I can take this and my laptop and get some work done outside the confines of my office.Pros:smallthinvery lightUSB only (no extra power adapter)bright (from what I've read the Lenovo portable and toshiba are not bright at all)landscape or portraitCons:Uncontrollable brightness. For my eyes this is too bright, especially since I work in a very dim room 90% of the time. I don't understand why all three of the portable displays out right now have this super skinny dimension.No case (i just went and got a laptop sleeve that fits though)

It's very portable, it looks nice, the image is bright and sharp, and setup was easy enough. Two minor complaints: it emits a very faint high-pitched sound, not noticeable unless you are alone in a quiet room, and the cable is a little difficult to connect to the monitor. Otherwise I like it a lot.

Great monitor at a good price. Used as a monitor extension to laptop. LED is good quality and no power is needed; runs off USB port. Lightweight, portable, easy setup...just install software and is easy controlled for attachment and adjustment. Works landscape or portrait.

I bought this with high expectations. Unfortunately, although the monitor works, when I connected it to my laptop I lost my internet connection and could not reconnect. I removed and reinstalled the driver for the monitor, but it did it again and again. I would not recommend buying this item.

We were considering purchasing 100 of these displays to be used by our auditors when they are at client sites. Although the monitor is 16" the resolution is so low it displays less information than a standard 14" laptop screen. The GLOSSY screen looks good in the store but is terrible when trying to see what you are doing. The reflection of overhead lighting made the device frustrating to use. When we set the device at the same angle as the laptop the glare was only noticeable on the AOC display. Quality laptops do not have high gloss screens so the difference was striking. It is made of cheap plastic. It does not have any brightness controls. There are much better displays out their so we passed on this one and moved on to the Lenovo display which is a much better device (LT1421). The only thing I liked about the AOC is you could position it in landscape or portrait orientations.

I purchased this product as a second screen for work related purposes, primarily online teaching. It connected easily to a windows 7 operating system laptop and a windows xp operating system laptop and fits nicely in my laptop carrying case. I've used it for about a month and am quite pleased. No problems so far.

Seamless installation. A little buggy but functional software. Light and small enough that it fits a standard brief. Does not need to come out at airports (TSA or global). Odd placement for the USB input? I hate those old school flip charts of power point slides. This replaceed them. I tried to get my Lenovo to talk to an I-pad for the same purpose. That is probably doable but I are 2-dumb; it is 'Easy with an airbook', I am shure. Best use yet; Giving a talk across a desk. Three clients on the other side (NOT looking over my shoulder!). They see a full screen in Spanish and I have my notes page in front of me with the slide and a real time sharpie to direct their attention and help with questions. Redonkulous! I hope it lasts, its so light weight and feels cheap, but its been in three countries in as many weeks and it seems to be holding up just fine. Worth every penny so far.

I ordered the item after seeing a review in a Mac magazine.Paid extra for next-day shipping because I planned to use it in a presentation.It was Dead on Arrival.No one to call, no one to email, no way to contact the "manufacturer" (who had it made in China) through its site.No documentation, no mention of any drivers needed, and until I saw it mentioned in a review here, I was SOL.Thanks to the review, I downloaded the driver and I'm now up and running. For a little more than $100, it's good enough for my purposes.

I purchased the monitor to use with my laptop as second monitor. Did exactly what I wanted...for about 4 months. The built-in USB connector got more loose and unreliable over time, affecting display quality. It finally broke completely off inside the monitor yesterday. I will see how the warranty repair goes. I may try the Lenovo model, even though 1.6" smaller diagonal display area and $80 more.

This was the most frustrating thing I have ever purchased. At first the install didn't work right. Then once I installed it half my programs didn't work. It's disappointing because it's a great concept just super cheap and not worth the money. Spend your money on a better product.

The monitor did not work. We attempted to install the driver and use the monitor on three different computer. The monitor would only flash on and off and cause our primary computer monitor to flash on and off. I do not recommend this product.

First of all, this item was delivered lightning fast. I ordered on a Thursday afternoon; it was waiting for me on my porch when I returned from a business trip on Friday. Secondly, it's a nice addition to my office. I already had a second monitor, but it was huge, bulky, and heavy--not easy to travel with at all. This little jewel is light and easily fits in my computer case, along with my laptop. The price was right - $99. Highly recommend to anyone needing a second monitor.

With most of our laptops, the AOC E2251FWU 22 - Inch Widescreen USB LED Monitor - Black does not allow simultaneous display on laptop screen and LCD Projector. This monitor was intended to show a large display to customer while facing them using our laptop during demonstration of our products that run on a computer.

We purchased 12 of these monitors for use by our staff people when working on laptops outside of the office. While the screens work well for the intended use, the micro USB plug location on the monitor is terrible. It is placed inside the "kick-stand" recess and requires the user to insert the plug parallel to the back of the monitor, without being able to see what they are doing. The end result is that during 3.5 months of use, we have already had 2 of the plugs break, making the monitors useless. A third monitor has a very loose plug (similar to the first two before they failed), and I suspect that it break in the near future. When 25% of the monitors purchase last less than 4 months (with 12 different users), it is obvious that these monitors have a design flaw.I wouldn't purchase or recommend these monitors to anyone.

Nice monitor for the price. Especially if you are looking for a 16" widescreen which are hard to find. I have a very quiet notebook and as reported by another reviewer, you can hear a frequency hum from the monitor. Will use this monitor for temporary setups only.

I've only owned this product for a few weeks but so far it's been a nice little addition to my arsenal of monitors.Pros:- Light- It's a USB monitor! Great for laptops.- I've read you can have up to 6 of these running at once (Haven't tried it though)Cons:- Brightness is a little obnoxious- No way to turn it off without unplugging it- No easy way of mounting it to anything- Putting the USB plug awkwardly underneath the stand was a terrible design decision- Caused some initial driver issues but seemed to fix itselfOverall: Neat USB monitor. Great if you need an additional monitor for your laptop. Wouldn't use it as a default monitor.

This monitor is not bad at all. Not the sharpest picture, but that's not what it is designed for. Super portable, light weight and sets up fast and you can use it in portrait or landscape. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the fact that the USB port where you plug in the USB cable is located behind the 'kick stand' that holds the monitor up, which is a very strange and awkward place for the USB port, though this is really a minor inconvenience.I recommend bundling your order with the Case Logic Laptop 16" Sleeve (link below), as the screen comes as is with out a case.Case Logic PLS-15 15.4-16 Inch Neoprene Laptop Sleeve (Black)

Great monitor until I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Didn't work until I contacted tech support and was instructed me to download the driver from [...] (not the AOC website). Now it works again. This is a great second monitor for my Mac Air 11 inch. It weighs about the same as my iPad.

This monitor has been perfect to use alongside my primary monitor. As a gamer, I use this monitor to watch a stream, keep an eye on Ventrilo/Mumble, read a FAQ, or even watch a show on Hulu (depending on the amount of attention the game demands).The one complaint I have is that I've tried to use this monitor on its own (for example, when visiting friends out of town and I want to take my PC with me), and it was unpleasant. While playing any games, the screen appears to have some aliasing issues (not sure if I may have needed to tweak the settings of the game/monitor), making smaller text generally unreadable, and causing gameplay to be a bit more difficult/less pleasing to the eye.But overall, I'm very satisfied with this monitor as a secondary monitor.

i am used to work with more than one screen so this product suits perfectly to my purposes. extremely affordable. ultra light making it easy to transport in a backpak together with the laptop.the automatic sensing portrait/landscape feature is excelent, except for some flickering effect which i pressume has to do with the driver. if i had to ask for more, it would be not to have this flickering problem, higher resolution and maybe being thiner. but even without those things it is worth for your productivity. i do recommend especially for a new experience when you travel.obs: i liked so much that i use at home with my laptop.

As an auditor in public accounting, it is now essential to have dual monitors based on the paperless environment. I have been searching a long time for the perfect second monitor that can be taken out in the field without having to carry a huge second weight around. This monitor meets all of the field auditors needs - the major benefits are the following: 1) Very light 2)Only needs power via USB cable 3) Can rotate landscape or portrait with ease 4) fits in my laptop bag with my laptop. Overall, this is a must have piece of equipment for anyone in the business arena who requires a second monitor on the go. I highly recommend this and have purchased several since for other employees.

This may help someone who is unable to (a) rotate the screen from landscape to portrait and/or (b) adjust the screen brightness in Mac OS X.To rotate the screen, hold down Command and Option while clicking on the 'Display' icon in System Preferences. You should find a rotation option for the e1649Fwu monitor.To adjust the brightness, you will need to down ScreenShade. It allows you to dim your main monitor, external monitor, or both. A word of caution though - I'm no expert, but it seems the app simply places a layer of grey or tint over the monitor. Hence while this will undoubtedly dim the screen, it may also intervene with colours, etc. Another app known as Shades is slicker (imho) but doesn't work with the e1649Fwu.So there you have it - the rotation and brightness problems solved for Mac users! For Windows users who may need a dimming solution, I suppose there will be similar software like the ones mentioned for Mac OS X.

El monitor es ligero excelente para transportarlo. En algunos comentarios hacen menci?n del plastico barato, de cierta forma es lo que hace que sea ligero, pero tampoco es una cascara de huevo, se debe cuidar c?mo cualquier otro producto delicado, no esta dise?ado para golpes al igual que muchos otros productos que normalmente son portables.Algunas consideraciones para los creadores del monitor ser?an:1. Un forro para proteger la pantalla, aunque tampoco est? fuera del alcance comprar un estuche que se utiliza para laptops de 16 sencillo que sirve de transportador y protector.2. El USB cambiarlo de lugar ya que esta un tanto incomodo su posici?n y peligroso para aquellos despitados que alg?n momento cierren la patilla y no se percaten que esta conectado todav?a.3. La otra mejora es lograr incorporar los drivers dentro del mismo dispositivo, tal vez con eso muchos de los que se sienten disconformes con tener que estar instalando por aparte los drivers con un CD o una llave USB se contenten.Por mi parte estoy esperando para adquirir otro m?s.

This item has VERY poor display quality. Purchased as a second larger screen for video viewing on a netbook, it will only display a static screen and locks up when attempting to play video, which was the intention of the purchase. The portability benefit does not outway the quality of the displayed image. I would advise considering other options, I couldn't return this quickly enough!
