This is a great CPU, I built my gaming rig with it. Used alienware and many other intel platforms before, i have to say i am very impressed with the AMD Fx-4100. CPU runs between 1.5GHz(idle) and 3.6GHz(gaming). The Fx-4100 seems to like 4.0GHz overclocking with stock cooling, the overclocking is unnecessary but I wanted to see what it could do.

Good product. Low power processor
I got this processor for my new pc. I wanted a low power pc, so i got the FX4100. It runs just fine, I had no problem when installing it. I was a little worried because some people had problems with BIOS out of date in asus M5A for this new processors. Mine was reconized inmediately in my ASUS M5A board, so i did not have to update my bios. I'm happy with the product, i was'nt looking for a high end processor, so this was perfect for me. It has 4 cores and 45 watt consumption(I think... but nos sure). DDR3 compatible. Put 2 corsair 1600 cards with no problem. I recomend this processor for those people that doesn't need much horsepower in their pc's.

Can't fault the chip.
I've been having some problems with my pc, but I did get to try this CPU briefly and from what I could tell it performs well. Probably comparable to Phenom performance with a lower TDP, extra energy saving measures and the turbo core overclocking functionality.
Wish I could get to try it out more but have gone back to a Phenom ii x4 965BE for now.

AMD FX 4100
I did not have a lot of money left over, but wanted a cheap gaming computer. So I chose this CPU and several other parts. I already had a HD, OS and screen, so my total price came to just under $400. My new computer runs very fast and runs most games at high quality, I know it runs Portal 2 and TF2 at very high quality with no lag. And runs Minecraft easily. It was easily installed and came with thermal paste. This CPU scored just under a friend's 27 inch iMac that has a i3 in it and cost over $3000. This CPU scored 5570 via Geekbench, the iMac scored 5550. Overall, it is a great CPU for the price it is.

Klasse Prozessor !!!
Bin nach langem hin und her auch bei dem FX-4100 gelandet.
Hatte vorher nen Phenom II x4 955 BE drin der auf 3.6 Gh getaktet war. Jetzt hab ich den FX-4100 (mit abgeschaltenen Turbo und auf 4.2 Gh getaktet) im Gleichen System drin (Asrock 880GMH/U3S3 Mainboard, 8 Gig G.Skill 1866 Ram, Palit GTX570 Sonic Platinum) und er schlagt meinen alten Phenom um 2 Nasenlaengen:-) Hab ihn hauptsaechlich zum Gamen gekauft und er erfuellt seine Aufgaben anstandslos.
BF3 , The Witcher 2 usw laufen fluessig auf Hoechsten settings...und der Prozi wird selbst mit dem Boxed Luefter nicht wirklich Heiss(troz OC).
Fazit: kann bedenkenlos fuers Zocken benutzt werden wenn der rest natuerlich auch auf den Prozessor abgestimmt ist (Mainboard, Bios, Ram...) jeder Zeit wieder.

Nice "bang per buck"
This processor is unlocked, meaning that it can be overclocked if you wish, via settings such as the multiplier in the BIOS.
I am just using the stock heat-sink and fan which comes with the CPU. I am using it overclocked at 4.1 GHz (20.5 x 200 Mhz), which is probably a sensible limit, until I fit more substantial cooling.
Once overclocked it provides plenty of processing power relative to the price paid.
The processor is designed to automatically throttle, meaning it will run at a slower speed on lighter tasks, such as web browsing. This saves energy, and produces less heat. The speed will throttle up again, if a more demading task is started.
The included heat-sink fan is nice and quiet.

Great budget CPU, with lots of power
I stack up my PC with this CPU and a $50 Gigabyte motherboard and 4GB DDR3 Ram as I was building a budget desktop. my PC been working like a charm with WIN 7 and since the very first boot, I have never had a freeze, blue screen, or any other issues. The CPU is powerfull, and I can run any program including Photoshop fast with no lags. I can imagine if this CPU is with a higher end motherboard, will most likely function much better.
Overall I'm glad that I bought this CPU. Fair price for a nice performance. I probably would have had to pay about $80 more to get an Intel CPU with same performance.

Great price/performance combo!
Bought this to power a FreeNAS 8.3 box that I was building as a replacement for a dated board / Q6600 processor. It has plenty of power to serve up multiple 1080p video streams with 7.1 audio via PS3 and to also allow streaming from several phones.
The only reason that I didn't give this a 5 star rating is because the included fan is very loud and "whines" rather than whirrs. I'll have to buy an after marked CPU fan as it's just too noisy.

Best bang for the buck
Pros:I got this onsale when amd slashed the price since they introduced the fx 4170. It performed very well out of the box, and even better with a hyper 212 from cooler master. I was considering an i5 over this and worried that amd might have been a dude. I was wrong, paired with dual HIS 6870 cards it handles anything i can throw at it and then some. Love it, its worth it for the cash.
Cons: I had some inital problems on boot up because of some out dated drivers, i just downloaded the lastest ones off amds site and it fix it right away.

Not quite a Quad-Core Processor
A 3.6 GHz Quad-Core processor that's fast and cheap. This processor is inferior to many of the Intel Core series processors and even AMD's on Phenom II lineup. Not exactly an upgrade, but if you need a cheap processor with AVX support this is the one for you. It's likely that this processor may not be a true-quad core processor. Either way the decision is yours to make.

What more can you ask for?
The AMD FX 4100 is an absolute fantastic buy. At $110 it is one of the best bang for your buck processors on the market, i would put it only behind the other fx processors. It can handle any game today on the highest settings, and doesnt bottleneck my 6850 what so ever, and i believe it wont bottleneck any single gpu solution (accept MAYBE a 6990 or NVIDIA equivalent). It does all of this, and today's software isnt even optimized for its architecture yet. I would imagine that once it becomes optimized come windows 8, we will see a 10-30% increase in overall performance.

THE AMD FX 4100 QUAD Core processor is very good indeed i am not a gamer an average computer user who accesses live stream feeds.i have found in day to day use no problems with it at all. i would like like to say i am not an amd fanboy. i want best value for money a processor that works well in real world usage this amd bulldozer fx 4100 fits the bill for me very nicely.i cant recommend it enough you will have no problems in use with it at all. its at an unbeatable price buy and enjoy many years of computer use with it.

Brilliant! Best budget processor ever!
I bough this for a budget gaming pc build. It works amazingly with a very low power consumption. Without overclocking can run all the latest games on max settings with an average 60FPS(I am using a radeon HD 7770 with this, it costs around £100 and 4gb of corsair vengeance, I have another review on this) and if you are an overclocker this is your dream CPU, you can get about 4.2GHz safely with the stock cooler and with a aftermarket I reached 4.8GHz and I am not a master of overclocking. Overall perfect CPU for the price especially if you are a budget gamer!

AMD is AMAZING
I love this quad-core 3.6ghz from AMD was building my rig on a budget and this got it done with flying colors haven't over clocked it yet ima get a new CPU fan before i do so even though people do in other reviews of this product i don't want to run my CPU hotter than it needs to be would i recommend this to a friend absolutely already did to all of my friends looking to build their own rigs so if you want a great CPU for your build this is the way to go forget Intel and their overpriced CPU's

Now for a cheap processor this is probably 1 of the best available under 200 bucks. I bought this not quite sure what it could do and i have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. I myself have had it overclocked to 4.2 for the last 24 hours with no issue at 34c with the cpu cooler they provide.I do plan to switch to liquid cooling soon it just hasn't arrived yet. I have reached 5ghz but i don't dare to push it any farther then that because i just built this computer and would like to not burn it out yet.

Powerful and easy on the wallet.
This was my first PC build and I am happy with the FX-4100. This is leagues ahead of my previous CPU (AMD Athlon 64 3500+) and getting a 3.6 GHz, 4-core CPU for $100! You can't go wrong! Even though there has been talk of compatibility with windows 7, I have yet to experience any problems with my system. If youre looking for a good bang for your buck look no further. This is still a fairly new CPU so make sure your MOBO supports an AMD3+ CPUs out of the box or you gonna have problems getting it to work.

Don't be fooled by 3.6ghz
I got a new motherboard and replaced my q2300 Intel 2.5ghz quad core with this and it gave me the same windows experience index after redoing the test. Benchmarks also tend to put it behind phenom 2 cards. Its not bad but don't be fooled by 3.6ghz as this is not a true quad core. Look it up for yourself. Not bad deal but don't expect a huge leap in performance. I now have the

Overclocks like a champ!
I bought this processor along with a gigabyte 970a-uda MB about a month ago, and I'm am easily running 4.5ghz stable all day long. All I changed was my multiplier in bios and disabled turbo boost. bam! 4.5ghz all day. All I have is a cooler master air cooler with 2x80mm fans on it and I have never gone above 40C.
Great processor! The throttling issues are kind of annoying but I can still push this thing more if I took the time to tweak it. Way to go AMD!

Terrible for gaming and anything.
Avid gamer here. Recently bought this as a cheaper option for a gaming rig.
FX990 extreme3 mobo

Western Digital Black 500gig sata drive
and this FX4100 CPU with stock cooler
FPS in games is terrible and the PC has frozen and hung since I got it (not had it long). I know its the processor that's rubbish because the FPS suddenly drops when the CPU "thermal throttling" kicks in. I even tested by turning the feature off in bios and viola, instant freeze and crash.
Honestly, this either needs super cooling and mega PSU wattage or it is just a terrible proccessor. As a result this pc is worst than my 4 year old rig.
Be warned, if you are gamer or do video stuff on pc's STAY CLEAR, that why the price is so low.

Works as expected, but not as powerful as Intel... but cheap
Placed this in a new M5A97 motherboard with 8G of ram. Scored 7.2 (out of 7.9 possible) for the processor in the Windows Experience Index. Overclocked to 4100 and scored 7.3. I'm know I can overclock much more than that though but really dont need to. Played Battlefield 3 with Radeon 6850 and get no stutters and ~50fps.
