Would be five stars but:Lots of DOAs. Ordered 4 from another site. 2 DOA. Replacement drives no issues. Drives have been running 24/7 for 2 months. Reviews on other sites show a similar pattern, but once you get good ones you're in for smooth operating. Very quite, and temperatures never get too hot.Highly recommend.

Bought two of the 2TB to use in RAID 1 (mirror) in my QNAP TS-212 NAS and they work great. No errors or SMART problems so far. They run fairly cool in my NAS under 40 C. Nothing much else to report.I highly recommend you get this type of drive that are RAID/NAS friendly because if you use another drive that doesn't have TLER you're waiting for trouble when there's an error.Bought from Amazon (not a marketplace seller) and they came shipped fine. Would recommend these to anyone looking for a good value storage drive to use in a NAS or RAID. They'll work fine as single drives but don't pay a premium for it.

I bought a server (a real tower server, not the little 'home servers') and dropped 2 of these in it in a RAID 1 configuration, and it's worked flawlessly. I almost bought 2 WD Black drives, but read baout the potential RAID issues, so I went with these instead. I don't notice a difference between these (5400rpm) and any other drives running at 7200rpm

Adorama shipped this disk to me in a plastic bag with one layer of bubble wrap around the disk drive.Absolutely no protection what so ever. But the disk appears to be working when I plugged it into my Dell.Despite my concern, I decided to keep it instead of returning it immediately. What a mistake !!!! The drivedied after 58 days of light use. Now Adorama will not make a refund or replacement so I have to go throughthe rma process with WD. I have a number of WD green & black drives & never had any problem which iswhy I kept the drive instead of returning it immediately. Learn from my mistake, poorly packaged drives candie later even if it initially worked.

Worked perfectly in my DirecTV Genie paired with aThermaltake Max 5 Active Cooling Hard Drive Enclosure with Two 80mm Blue LEDMake sure you get the older model of the Thermaltake so it has eSATA.It works perfectly even though it says it only supports 2TB, I get the feeling that only applies when using USB 2.0

I have a Netgear ReadyNAS and wanted to upgrade to 2TB drives. After reading reviews and horror stories on tons of other hard drives, I came across the WD Red 2TB NAS Hard Drive. I liked the idea of a hard drive designed specifically for a NAS and after reading many positive reviews I decided to order 2. After 2 months of use, I am very happy with the performance of these hard drives. They are quiet and run at a low temp. So far I have no errors or failures. They work as expected which is saying a lot for hard drives.

I have gone through many drives in the past in my NAS. This drive seems to run quieter and cooler than some of my other ones. Time will tell of course. I am glad there is a drive available at a reasonable price compared to the "Enterprise" edition's at 5x the price.

I built a FreeNAS 8.3 box and what better to provide storage than 4 of these guys along with a WD Green drive running ZFS RAIDZ1 (like RAID-5). I get average transfer speeds from my main PC to the NAS of 45-60MB/s using a gigabit Ethernet infrastructure. It would be better if I upgraded my PC's HDD to a WD Black, but that's another story. The WD Red drives stay fairly cool to the touch under most circumstances. The 4-port SATA-3 controller card I use gets hotter than all 5 HDDs.

I purchased four of the WD Red 3TB hard drives for right around $140 each. I purchased this hard drive for simply one reason... the 3-year manufacturer's warranty. You can't beat that! I installed all four hard drives in a NAS device that runs 24/7. The likelihood that one of these drives will fail within the next 36 months is rather high when using a WD Green drive. I will update my review if any fail or if I have problems, but until then... things are running great!

Stuck this into my Ubuntu 10.04 media server box as the second disc of a mirror - the other disc is a WD Green. The Green was nearly full - 2.6TB in use out of 2.7TB total. It took the array 6:15:08 to completely sync the WD Red, for a sustained (sequential) transfer of 121 MB/s. That's not bad at all given the price point of the two discs in question. Obviously random seeks would be slower, but that's a pretty good sustained average. Now we'll see how they hold up.

These appear to be great drives. Quiet and fast enough to stream HD movies via a Zyxel NSA320 enclosure. Write speeds are plenty fast via Gigabit ethernet. I opted for a JBOD configuration as opposed to RAID, so I can't comment on RAID performance. If my media server/backup enclosure had more drive bays, I'd buy more of these without hesitation. I'm hoping their energy efficient design will help them last a long time. We'll see...

I've used this series of drives in many corporate offices. Now for my own company, I will use only Red series drives. I've paired two of these drives for use with a Synology DS213+. Rock solid combo for the last 30 days. Should this change I'll update this review.Expensive? Yeah, they cost more than desktop series drives. My data is worth it. I've never had an issue with WD customer service regarding drives that are still in warranty. I also believe in redundancy so I backup to multiple locations multiple times to put the odds in my favor. And the WD Red series is in all my onsite and offsite backup stations.

Ordered two for my file server, one worked perfectly, the other would read as 2GB, then as 700GB, and then nothing. Amazon cross shipped a new one that is working great. 50% star rating for a 50% initial failure rate.Other notes: Runs cooler than my other WD blue and green drives, but not as cool as my Samsung drives.4 month update: Reduced the rating to one star as the WD Red drives will not respond after being turned off for a week. It is sad to see such a high failure from WD these days, good thing they have three-year warranties, it looks like I will be sending in these drives to WD quite often.

I ordered 3 of these for my Synology DS413 NAS/Server in February and also 3 more for another Synology NAS/Server. All 6 drives are running strong without issue. Although time will tell how robust these drives really are, for now however they're running cool and quiet with no performance issues.

This was added in our file-server for an architectural office. We are constantly accessing files in the 3-10GB range with intense local fire-sharing, so I was looking for something that could really fly.After about a month of use, the drive acts more like RAM or SS drives than a typical hard drive. Response and data transfer rate is virtually instant, even for very large files. Installation is easy as the casing is quality and refined... no badly formed edges.I can't hear a thing from the drive, and have had no hiccups whatsoever. I fully intend to add more of this unit as our need requires.

My laptop has hit 6.7 on performance benchmark. I would say it is like new but actually my three year old laptop is performing faster than if I bought a new one. SSD has arrived and is the bomb.

Added these drives to my home server as data storage drives. Am using Windows 8 Pro and have it set up to use as a server to supply 9 computers and devices on my home network a central storage location.After five minutes, the drives are set to power down if not being accessed.Being SATA III, access and write times are fast. Have accessed video's from three different devices at the same time with no stutter.Giving FIVE stars because they have surpassed my expectations.Will be ordering four more and adding to the storage pool in my server in the near future

I picked this drive after a stellar review on StorageReview, which said it is the go-to choice for 24/7 always on RAID and media servers. I put four in my CineRAID CR-H458, and they have worked like a charm--zero problems initializing, no dropped drives in the month that I have had it. They are virtually silent--I cannot hear them over the near-silent fan in the RAID box, even when accessing data. After hours of continual writing--copying 3TB of files--the exhaust from the box was barely warm.Time will tell, but my initial impression is excellent. Highly recommended.

I bought this HDD to replace my Hitachi Deskstar 2TB drive in my Synology NAS.The reason I wanted to replace the Hitachi was that is was SO NOISY! That thing could wake me up when it spun up!So far the WD drive is extremely quiet in comparison, and data transfers are now noticeably quicker.I cannot say much about the reliability since I haven't had it for long, but overall, I am very satisfied with making the switch to this drive.

These drives are great for my uses. I have 4 of them configured as RAID 10 on a Win7 on a ASUS M5A99X motherboard with 16GB memory and so far they seem to be doing quite well. Drives are quiet and data access is fast. These drives were designed for RAID operation and so far they are producing. No problems at all technically. Amazon delivered very quickly.

Quiet and 2Tb is enough for me. Using as a boot drive which is slower than my previous Caviar Black that Blew up. Honestly saved 70 bucks going red than getting a 2 TB C.black.Will be purcahings an large SSD soon for the boot drive. Im confident this drive will last a while because I have perfect hind sight.

I purchased two of these to go into a new Netgear NAS. So far they are operating perfectly. I can stream video to my Panasonic Plasma TV over my network while another computer is backing up huge picture files, without a hiccup.

the WD RED drive is little more than a WD Green drive with certain firmware features not disabled.Western Digital's drives used to allow a feature called TLER to be enabled, which would limit the amount of time the hard drive spent trying to recover damaged data. The reason is that if a drive spends too long on recovery, the RAID controller will assume it's bad and drop it from the array.Sadly, Western Digital removed this feature, presumably to force purchase of more expensive drives which are the same as cheaper models, but with the minor software difference described above.WD Red is WD Green with TLER.

I bought two of these drives for a NetGrear ReadyNAS Duo. Both drives arrived in good working order. After installation and formatting, no error or bad sectors were reported. Installation was very simple, hot swap and reboot NAS. I've had the drives running for two weeks, so far so good. Performance is good. These drives replaced two Seagate Barracuda 1T drives. No real discernible performance difference.
