Just installed 2 days ago. Replaced my 3-year old Samsung 5400rpm 250GB that came with my Sony laptop.In general it works fine. There is no obvious speed advantage over the old one, but the noise level is definitively higher. The noise is not a problem for day time use. But at quiet night, it is noticeable, not loud though. Before I hardly notice any noise. Not sure if it is mainly because the increased rpm.Anyway, the major problem for me with this new HDD was that it is Advanced Format Disk.I was using Window 7 SP1 (32bit) and I didn't expect any problem. But after cloning my entire old system(disk) to the new one (with True Image WD Edition), I found my MSN Messenger and Windows Update were not functioning properly. After several hours of Googling, I finally solved the problem by installing Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver. There is another piece of patch need to be installed as well, called KB982018. It was included in Win7SP1 so I didn't need to install it. But for those who don't have it yet, you need to install it before cloning. Otherwise it won't install.Good luck!

Been using it for a month and half now. No problems for me yet, since it wasn't the original brand that was in my laptop. I got same amount of 500 GB drive to play it on the safe side. Needed to replace my HP laptop hard drive that been giving me error messages for the longest time.

I replaced the 250GB hardrive in my 2007 2.4 GHZ Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro with this hard drive. I installed it myself and the installation was a lot easier than I thought due to a lot of helpful walk throughs on youtube. I have had it installed for about 2 weeks now and I have had no problems whatsoever. The harddrive is fast and I haven't noticed any extra noise or heat. The price is just right and I would definitely recommend this harddrive.

Bought this to upgrade my macbook pro mid 2009. The 160gb which it came with was driving me nuts. So far after weeks of use no complaints.Pros:Much faster (Not surprised black scorpios are the fastest)Con:expect 10 to 15% increase in volume because of this hard drive. the original 2.5 installed was as silent as a ghost. Nonetheless its not a deal-breaker.

Not a big drive by today's standards, but plenty big enough for most notebooks, relatively quite and access time is noticeably faster than the 5400 rpm drives -- probalby helped by the 16MB cache cmpared to hte 8MB cache on most 5400 rpm drives. Reportedly not as fast as a Seagate Momentus but it doesn't have anywhere near the reports of troubles, failures, and nose that Momentus users has posted.For about 10%-20% more than a Scorpio Blue drive, the black has a much lower percentage of complaints and low ratings, mainly, it seems, because the drive has enough speed and lack of noise to satisfy most users.Can;t report on reliability sinc ethe drive is too new but the 5 year warranty is nice in case this one fails in the next few years.

I received a 500gb Scorpio Blue 5400 rpm HD not a scorpio black. Thought perhaps I misread the item name and description and checked my order history only to find that I did in fact order a Scorpio black as I had thought. On top of that, It wont allow me to write my operating system to the disk. no reason given, just failure to install.

The WD Black was nearly twice as fast as my Blue. However, the drive experienced a head crash after a couple months. The data recovery specialist that looked at the drive was appalled by the design. He said that a head crash is inevitable with the way the arm is parked and that the design for the Blue is much better.On the plus side, the drive comes with a good warranty. Just make sure you have all your data backed up if using this drive.

I own a late 2009 MacBook which started having poor performance end of last year (only 2 years of use). Everything about it was just slow and sluggish. After doing a little research, it sounded like other people who had similar problems suggested that it could either be corrupted HD or broken SATA cable. I assumed it was problem one and found this HD. It arrived about a week after I ordered it. Replacing the HD was very easy. After installing Snow Leopard back on, my MacBook is running faster than it was before with the 5400 RPM stock HD! Very happy with the result!

Installed this HD in my 2.66 GHz Core i7 MacBook Pro today. Honestly, it feels like a new computer. The difference is huge in the responsiveness of my machine. I was having a lot issues with handling large Photoshop files from my Medium Format negative scans, and now those issues are much more subdued. I'm working with images are about 1 GB in size during editing, which was becoming very cumbersome with my old 5400 RPM HD that came from the factory. Now I can work with them with some haste. It is by no means instant, but the difference is pretty large. Definitely worth the cash. Once I grab 8GB of ram this week, my year old MacBook Pro will really fly!

No real complaints, except the usual; formatted size is less than advertised. I know this is the usual case (due to the fact that 1 MB = 1024 bytes, not 1000)... but SOME hard drive manufacturers sell drives in which the actual formatted size is as advertised. I wish they all would.Speed is good (I despise standard 5400 rpm drives, so 7200 is great), and it's quiet enough.This was a replacement for a failed laptop drive, and client is happy with extra size and extra speed. I usually prefer Seagate drives, but so far so good with this WD drive.

Installed this drive on a mid-2009 MacBook Pro 13 inch about two weeks ago. It took less than ten minutes from start to finish, including installing new RAM. Mounting screws need to be removed from old drive and installed on the new one. It does run very hot if used as a "lap"top, and battery power is noticeably affected. But otherwise seamless and glitch-free.

I've swapped this into my MB pro. It's replacing a smaller 5400rpm drive. It's noticeably faster, but also noticeably louder than the original toshiba drive. The laptop was nearly silent before, and now I'm aware of a little noise. Not totally a deal breaker for me, but it has given me a whole new appreciation of Apples quality control.

I've always had pretty good luck with Western Digital drives, and this one is no exception. I bought 4 of these to upgrade an old computer, install in a new computer, and use 2 as backup. None of the drives arrived DOA and all passed error checks. The 500 GB capacity is more than enough for the operating system, dozens of programs and games, and large amounts of pictures and music. The Advanced Format feature of the drive requires WD Align for installations of versions of Windows prior to Windows 7, or for clones of any operating system. Also, if cloning a drive with Windows from a non-AF drive to this drive, you need to install a patch available from Microsoft. This 2.5" drive also has slightly faster transfer speeds compared to WD 3.5" 7200 RPM SATA II hard drives. Overall, this is a great investment.

I bought this HD to change the 160 GB one in my Macbook Pro. Not only I have more space but also the performance of the Mac has increased considerably (I also incremented the RAM, so I don't know exactly how much it increases). The drawback it that it is a little bit noisy, and as it works at 7200 rpm, I think it uses more battery power.

Replaced the stock HDD from a 2008 Mac Book Pro (non-unibody). The performance is much better now. The startup times (for both the OS as well as applications) has significantly improved. It has not failed in the last 6 months of usage.Good deal in my book.

I got this drive to install in the Micca Slim HD media reader. The media reader manual said any 2.5 inch SATA drive would work. This one didn't. I went to Micca's website and in the FAQs it said not to use a 7200RPM drive because the media reader might not have enough power for it to work. Now you tell me. Micca's bad. So be careful and make sure you will not have a similar issue for your application.I'll hang on to the drive; it seems to be of high quality and hopefully I can use it for something else. 5 stars for the packaging, for sure.

I bought this drive for a friend to replace the drive that was ruined when his child pulled the computer off a table. The drive in the computer was a WD Scorpio Blue 320 GB with a 5400 RPM spindle speed. My friend has commented that the computer seems to boot faster and is more responsive when loading programs, web pages and so on. So far it is a great drive. Highly recommended over the WD Scorpio Blue drive.

I installed this hard drive in my mid-2009 Macbook Pro. I was worried that the ShockGuard would interfere with the Sudden Motion Sensor. I was also worried that the interface speed would be 1.5 gb/s instead of 3.0 due to a potential problem with the motherboard for this MBP model. However, the hard drive is working great and the negotiated speed is 3.0. I haven't had any vibration problems or issues with the Advanced Format. So far, I highly recommend it!ETA: A year later and it is still going strong! No issues to report

I bought this drive BEFORE the price increase, as it is now, (12/15/2011), twice what I paid for it a few months ago. This was a great and easy upgrade for my mid 2009 13" Aluminum MB. My laptop is noticeably faster, (5400RPM vs 7200RPM).

I have used this model drive in several Windows 7 Systems and have never had an issue. You do have to run WD Align on XP systems, or if you are using a cloning utility. WD's drives tend to be the best. It's fast and reliable.I've also repaired a 15" Mac Book Pro Unibody, which came with the problematic Hitachi HD, with this drive quickly and easily. I formatted it using the OSX supplied disc, and it was ready for Time Machine in about 24 minutes. Great Drive!

So when a friends business laptop hard drive went out I knew I needed a replacement that I could depend on. Only one choice for me, Western digital Black. When only the best will do, go no further than Western Digital Black.

Compare to my previous one (Hitachi, 5400rpm) this product is just GORGEOUS.It gave a real boost to my system (MBP, early 2008) from the boot-up till the hibernation.No more noisy than the Hitachi, just a higher pitch.Highly recommended!!!
